2007 Suzuki Grand vitara problems

The Suzuki Vitara is a series of SUVs produced by Suzuki in five generations since 1988. The second and third generation were known as the Suzuki Grand Vitara, while the fourth generation eschewing the "Grand" prefix. In Japan and a number of other markets, all generations have used the name Suzuki Escudo (Japanese: スズキ・エスクード, Hepburn: Suzuki Esukūdo).

The choice of the name "Vitara" was inspired by the Latin word vita, as in English word vitality. "Escudo", the name primarily used in the Japanese Domestic Market, refers to the "escudo", the monetary unit of Portugal before adoption of the Euro. The original series was designed to fill the slot above the Suzuki Jimny. The first generation was known as Suzuki Sidekick in the United States. The North American version was produced as a joint venture between Suzuki and General Motors known as CAMI. It was also sold as the Santana 300 and 350 in Spain and in the Japanese market, it was also sold as the Mazda Proceed Levante.

The second generation was launched in 1998 under the "Grand Vitara" badge in most markets. It was accompanied by a still larger SUV known as the Suzuki XL-7 (known as Grand Escudo in Japan). The third generation was launched in 2005.

The fourth generation, released in 2015, reverted to the original name "Vitara" in most markets, but shifted from an off-road SUV towards a more road-oriented crossover style. It shares the platform and many components with the slightly larger SX4 S-Cross.

The model introduced in 2022 for the Indian market only reuses the "Grand Vitara" nameplate. It is slightly larger than the SX4 S-Cross.

Common 2007 Suzuki Grand vitara problems

The Suzuki Grand Vitara 2007 is known for several common problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the issues in detail:

  1. Power steering problems: The Grand Vitara's power steering system can become difficult to steer, and the power steering may not work. This issue is caused by weak plastic components in the pump belt adjuster pulley, which deteriorate and break due to heat. If the car is still under warranty, a Suzuki dealer will replace the pulley for free. Otherwise, a replacement pulley can be ordered and installed by the owner.
  2. Airbag issues: The front passenger side airbag can become loose and visibly move. This is not a common issue but should not be ignored. Replacement airbag units are available, but due to the safety risks and the presence of harmful chemicals, it is recommended to leave the installation to professionals.
  3. Air conditioning problems: The air conditioning condenser can fail, causing the air conditioning to blow out warm air instead of cold air. This issue can be expensive to fix, but replacement condensers are available at a lower price.
  4. Timing chain cover gasket leaks: The timing chain cover gasket can fail, causing oil to leak around the timing chain cover. This issue is common on the Grand Vitara and can be fixed by replacing the gasket. If a ticking noise is heard from the timing chain, the tensioner may also need to be replaced.
  5. Passenger seat sensor issues: The passenger seat sensor can become faulty, causing the seatbelt alarm to sound even if the passenger has the seatbelt secured. This issue is common on later models of the XL7 and can be fixed by replacing the sensor.
  6. Water pump issues: The Grand-Vitara has a known issue with its water pumps, which are prone to seizing up. When this happens, the timing belt can slip, causing the engine to stall. In most cases, both the water pump and the timing belt need to be replaced.
  7. Hydraulic valve lifter bleed down: Some Grand Vitara models may experience a loud ticking noise when starting the engine from cold. This issue is caused by bleed down of the hydraulic valve lifters and can be fixed by bleeding the system.

These are some of the common problems reported by owners of the Suzuki Grand Vitara 2007. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent some of these issues, but it is important to be aware of them when considering purchasing or owning this vehicle.

What is the common problem with Suzuki Grand Vitara?

The Grand-Vitara has a known issue with its water pumps, which are prone to seizing up. Those pumps run off the timing belt, so seizure leads to a timing belt slip which is causing the engine to stall. In most cases, you will need to order both a new water pump and a new timing belt from BreakerYard.

Is suzuki grand vitara 2007 a good car?

The new 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara represents a quantum leap forward compared with the previous truck-based version. Overall, it's a well-equipped compact SUV that's high on value, and it should appeal to shoppers interested in a smaller SUV that can handle the occasional off-road excursion.

What year are bad for Suzuki Grand Vitara?

Summary: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 Grand Vitara and 2007-2011 SX4 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, over time, the OCS sensor mat installed in the front passenger seat may fail due to repeated flexing of the mat from use of the seat.

What is the defect of Grand Vitara?

Maruti Suzuki India has announced a recall of 11,177 units of the Grand Vitara owing to a possible defect in rear seatbelt mounting brackets. This is the third recall announced by the country's largest carmaker involving the Grand Vitara in less than two months.

  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: I BOUGHT MY 07 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA IN 2008. SINCE I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ABOUT EVERY 3-4 MONTHS. THE LIGHTS EVEN AFTER BEING REPLACED WILL FLICKER AND TURN OFF. I HAVE TO OPEN THE HOOD AND WIGGLE THE LIGHT TO COME BACK ON. THE CONNECTORS ON THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BECOME OVERHEATED AND MEALTED. ONCE WHILE DRIVING I SMELLED SMOKE, AFTER OPENING THE HOOD I REALIZED IT WAS THE HEADLIGHT. I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE MY HEADLIGHT(S) HAVE TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE MULTIPLE TIMES WITH THE HIGH BEAMS. ALSO THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE SO DIM I CAN BARELY SEE A YARD INFRONT OF MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THESE ARE ALL SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARDS AND EVEN LIFE THREATENING IF THE HEADLIGHTS WERE TO CATCH FIRE.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-07-17
  • VIN: JS3TE941974
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: THE HEAD LIGHTS KEEP GOING OFF EVERY 4 TO 6 MONTHS. THERE'S BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS ON REPAIRPAL.COM ABOUT THE SAME THING AND SUZUKI HAS NOT WANTED TO RECOGNIZE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. YET EVERYONE'S COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE HEADLIGHTS GOING OFF EVERY 4 TO 6 MONTHS IS A FACT. I TRIED REPLACING THE ENTIRE HEAD LIGHT ASSEMBLY BEFORE I KNEW THERE IS ACTUALLY A PROBLEM WITH IT AND IT'S STILL DOING IT MONTHS LATER. IT'S GETTING VERY EXPENSIVE FOR EVERYONE AND MYSELF TO BE REPLACING HEADLIGHT BULBS EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS THAT SHOULD BE LASTING YEARS. *TR

  • Summary: I HAVE REPLACED THE HEADLAMP BULBS 17 TIMES ON THE VEHICLE MENTIONED ABOVE THE EACH TIME THEY WOULD STOP WORKING. FOUND OUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BULBS THERE IS AN ABNORMAL OPERATION OF THE LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS AND THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS. THEY FLICKERED CONSTANTLY AND STOPPED WORKING ONE NIGHT AS MY SON WAS DRIVING HOME FROM COLLEGE. HE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!! WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH MECHANIC STATED THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE HAVE POSTED THE SAME COMPLAINT ON THE INTERNET AND I THINK THERE SHOULD AN IMMEDIATE RECALL. WE CANNOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE LIGHTS CONTINUE TO STOP BEAMING RANDOMLY. THERE IS A SUZUKI SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON THE 2004-2008 FORENZA AND RENO AND THERE SHOULD BE ONE ISSUED ON THE GRAND VITARA AS WELL. *TR

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2007-07-02
  • VIN: JS3TE944274
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS (H7) FAIL EVERY OTHER MONTH. I'VE SPENT ABOUT 150-200 US DOLLARS EVERY YEAR ON HEADLIGHT BULBS SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2007. WIRING HARNESS FOR H7 BULB SHOW SIGNS OF EXCESSIVE HEAT (MELTING AND BURN MARKS) ON PLASTIC AND METAL PARTS. I'VE ALWAYS USED NITRILE GLOVES, PAPER TOWELS, AND BULB GREASE (DI-ELECTRIC) TO INSTALL BULBS AND WIRING HARNESS. DESPITE ALL THE PRECAUTIONS WORKING WITH THESE BULBS THEY ALWAYS FAIL WITHIN 3 OR 4 MONTHS. THE CONCERN IS SAFETY AND PREVENTING AN ACCIDENT DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARTS.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-02-19
  • VIN: JS3TD941474
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: THE BULBS IN MY HEADLAMPS CONSTANTLY NEED REPLACING. I HAVE REPLACED THEM ON AVERAGE TWICE A YEAR SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, WHICH HAS INCREASED IN FREQUENCY THE LAST TWO YEARS TO 5 MONTH INTERVALS. I HAVE A STANDING RELATIONSHIP WITH MY ELECTRICIAN/MECHANIC, WHO ALMOST KNOWS ME ON A FIRST NAME BASIS. HE NEVER FINDS ANYTHING WRONG, IN TERMS OF A SHORT IN THE WIRES.....JUST CONTINUES TO CHANGE THE BULBS AND POCKET MY MONEY. THIS LAST TIME BOTH BULBS BLEW OUT WITHIN A WEEK OF ONE ANOTHER. THERE WAS ONE INSTANCE WHEN I WAS UNAWARE THAT A BULB HAD BLOWN AND INCURRED A "FIX IT" TICKET. THERE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, AS I SUSPECT THERE IS EITHER A SHORT OR OUTRIGHT FLAW IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. *TR

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2012-10-07
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT NOT WORKING. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACED THE LIGHT BULBS EVERY 3-4 MONTHS FOR THE PAST YEAR. THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES I WAS TOLD THE PERSON INSTALLING THE LIGHT BULBS WERE NOT DOING IT PROPERLY AND THAT WAS THE ISSUE. RECENTLY, I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THE ADAPTER IS THE ISSUE AND BECAUSE IT HAS THE ELECTRIC WIRES CONNECTED TO IT I HAVE TO PAY FOR ELECTRICAL WORK. TO SAVE MONEY I THOUGHT I COULD BUY THE PART MYSELF BUT, AFTER GOING TO 4 DIFFERENT AUTO STORES WHO DID NOT HAVE THE PART I WAS FORCED TO COME ONLINE. THIS IS WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE. I THINK SUZUKI SHOULD PLACE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. *TR

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2013-09-03
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN OUR SUZUKI GRAND VITARA WENT OUT COMPLETELY. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS BEFORE WITH A SINGLE BULB BURNING OUT WHICH I REPLACED. THEY ARE BURNING OUT MUCH MORE RAPIDLY NOW AND BECOMING A CONSTANT PROBLEM OF HAVING TO REPLACE THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. NOW, BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING THE OTHER DAY AS WE WERE DRIVING BACK AT NIGHT WHICH FORCED ME TO USE MY HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS TO GET HOME SAFELY. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM MANY SUZUKI OWNERS ARE HAVING BUT SUZUKI IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT AND PUT OUT A RECALL ON THE ISSUE. *TR

I AM THINKING ITS THE WIRING AND I LOOKED ONLINE AND I SEEN THAT MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT IS CRAZY BECAUSE I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO REPLACE MY HEADLIGHT THAT MANY TIMES IN A YEAR. I CONTACTED SUZUKI AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T HELP ME WITHOUT MAKING ME PAY THE AMOUNT, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS PARTS AND LABOR WHEN THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY HAVE HEARD THAT BEFORE. *JB

2007 Suzuki Grand vitara recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2007 Suzuki Grand vitara.

2019-03-07
  • Manufacturer: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc.
  • Components: SEATS
  • Summary: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Kizashi and 2006-2013 Grand Vitara vehicles. The front passenger leather seat may shrink due to high humidity and high temperature. As a result, the occupant classification system (OCS) sensor mat may not accurately detect if an adult or child is occupying the seat.
  • Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating airbag deployment, an incorrect classification may result in the passenger frontal air bag deploying even if there is a child in the front passenger seat, increasing their risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat bottom cushion, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on May 3, 2019. All second letters notifying owners of the remedy were mailed by April 10, 2020. Owners may contact Suzuki customer service at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki's numbers for this recall are 4011 and 4012.

  • Summary: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. As a result, during a crash necessitating deployment, the air bag will deploy regardless of whether the front seat occupant is an adult or a child.
  • Consequence: Air bag deployment with a child in the front passenger side seat increases the risk of injury to that child.
  • Remedy: Suzuki will notify owners and dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion assembly (which includes the OCS sensor mat) free of charge. Sufficient quantities of parts are not currently available to fix all of the affected vehicles. Owners will be notified of the recall in October 2013 and will receive a second notification when parts are available to have their vehicle repaired. The recall began on May 23, 2014. Owners may contact Suzuki at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki's recall campaign number is VD.

THE SHIFT LEVER MAY BE ABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT OF "PARK" WITH THE KEY REMOVED AND WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL.
  • Consequence: THIS CAN GIVE RISE TO INCREASED INCIDENTS OF CRASHES RESULTING FROM THE ROLLAWAY OF PARKED VEHICLES AS A RESULT OF INADVERTENTLY MOVING THE SHIFT LEVER FROM THE "PARK" POSITION WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SHIFT LOCK MODULE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 7, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-934-0934.

Negative 2007 Suzuki Grand vitara car reviews

This vehicle is a decent option for commuting, even in various weather conditions. However, I was disappointed with the fuel mileage and the shift points in the transmission. Despite this, the dealer assured me that there was nothing wrong with it. It cost me around $500 in gas to travel 460 km (round trip approx 920) which is quite expensive. I was hauling a single axle aluminum snowmobile trailer with 2 ATVs weighing 525 lbs and 402 lbs respectively, and the trailer might weigh around 400 lbs. Although I am disappointed, I would recommend asking about towing small trailers before making a purchase. Overall, the vehicle looks good and is a decent option for commuting.

I have had some issues with this car. At 15,000 miles, I needed new tires and now at 28,000 miles, it requires new brakes and left rear wheel bearing. I have owned other cars in the past and never had this many problems at this mileage. Additionally, the tire pressure light frequently comes on and the car is quite noisy when the a/c is turned on. These issues have led me to believe that the car was cheaply made. I am concerned about the durability of the engine given the problems I have experienced with the brakes and tires.

In 4000 miles, I needed new brakes. Luckily, the dealer covered it. At 11,000 miles, I needed new tires, so I decided to invest in the best tires available.

Hello! We would like to share some feedback on the 2007 grand vitara. We have had some issues with the car, such as the back tires wearing out quickly and some discomfort while riding in the back seat. We also noticed that the leather quality could be improved and the air flow can be quite strong. We hope this information is helpful to you!

Congratulations on your new Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV! It's great to hear that you're enjoying it. I understand that the 4WD version may have been out of your budget, but I'm sure your new SUV is still a fantastic choice.

I had been searching and test driving many SUVs, but when I visited my local Suzuki dealer and took the GV out for a test drive, I knew it was the one for me. The GV is a luxurious vehicle with a well-designed exterior and interior, and the leather heated seats are a major bonus. The 4 Mode for off-road driving is excellent, and it handled 20 inches of snow like a pro. The ESP feature is also excellent. I have absolutely no regrets about this purchase.

We test drove several SUVs but couldn't find the right one. However, when we test drove the Grand Vitara, we were very happy with its style, pick up, and build. We were especially impressed with the 100,000 mile warranty and the fact that it comes with many standard features that are usually not found in other SUVs, all at a great price! We recently discovered that Suzuki offers a large amount of accessories at reasonable prices, so we can upgrade as we go. This vehicle drives like a sports car, has the power of a truck, and the style of luxury and class. We highly recommend this vehicle to our friends and family.

  4. Hailey McDermott 2024-11-13

The Grand Vitara shouldn't be placed in the same category as any other compact SUV because it is actually built with proper 4WD running gear. The GV is the only vehicle in this class that offers a strong body construction and low-range gearbox. When driving this car, it feels a lot bigger than the RAV4. It might not drive like all the others in this class on the blacktop, but off-road, the Suzuki has no competition.

  5. Darron Cormier 2024-11-08

It sounds like you've got a great truck that can handle both offroad and street driving, and even tow your boat! While it may ride a bit rougher than some other cars in its category, it's definitely worth it for the added capability. Plus, the 4-mode 4wd system is a pretty nice feature.
