Suzuki Aerio problems
The Suzuki Aerio (also called the Liana – Life In A New Age – in China, Pakistan, Europe, Israel, South Asia, Taiwan and Australia or Baleno for sedan version in Indonesia) is a subcompact car that was built by Suzuki. It was introduced in 2001 as a replacement for the Suzuki Esteem/Baleno, with a tall 5-door SX model hatchback (for maximum inner room efficiency) and a 4-door sedan body. It featured two different 16-valve gasoline inline-four engines, with 1.5-litre and 1.8-litre, this one capable of 125 PS (92 kW; 123 hp) JIS. Production was discontinued in 2007 around the world and replaced by the Suzuki SX4, except in Pakistan (2006 to 2014) and China where production was continued by Changhe-Suzuki until 2019.
Overview
Models in North America got a larger and more powerful 2.0-litre engine with 145 hp (108 kW). A 5-speed manual transmission was standard with a 4-speed automatic optional. All-wheel-drive was available, but only with the automatic. American Aerios came in two trim levels: the S and GS (2002–2004), S and SX (2005), and Base and Premium (2006–2007). Key changes over the years included an upgrade to a new 2.3-liter 155 hp (116 kW; 157 PS) engine in 2004, a major styling and interior refresh in 2005 (replacing the digital instruments with conventional analog ones), and the standardization of antilock brakes in 2006. Only the Aerio sedan remained for 2007, as the hatchback had been shelved to make room for the new 2007 SX4 hatchback. Likewise, the Aerio sedan bowed out at year's end, making way for the 2008 SX4 Sport sedan. Throughout its run, the Aerio was distinct for being the most affordable car in America to offer all-wheel drive.
In Europe, where the car was called Liana (an acronym for Life In A New Age), it was seen as a more affordable alternative to small family cars or to mini MPVs, introducing a new generation of Suzuki M engines, with 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre I4 engine. All-wheel drive was available on the bigger engine. In 2004, the car was restyled with a look that closer resembled the Japanese version, and also received a Diesel engine, with a 16-valve version of the 1.4-litre HDi engine supplied by PSA Peugeot Citroën, capable of 90 PS (66 kW; 89 hp) thanks to common rail direct injection and a variable geometry turbocharger.
The Liana remained in production in Pakistan in 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre variants until 2014.

Common Suzuki Aerio problems
The Suzuki Aerio, produced from 2001 to 2007, has been reported to have several common issues by owners. These problems include engine misfires, oil leaks, transmission issues, electrical problems, and brake and suspension issues.
One of the most common issues reported is engine misfires, which can be caused by faulty spark plugs, ignition coils, or fuel injectors. Symptoms of engine misfires include rough idling, stalling, and reduced fuel efficiency. To resolve this issue, it is recommended to replace the faulty parts and perform a tune-up.
Oil leaks are another common problem reported by Suzuki Aerio owners. These leaks can be caused by worn-out gaskets or seals, and can lead to engine damage if left unaddressed. Symptoms of oil leaks include low oil levels, smoke from the engine, and oil stains on the ground. To fix this issue, it is recommended to replace the faulty gaskets or seals and refill the engine oil.
Transmission issues have also been reported by Suzuki Aerio owners. These issues can be caused by low transmission fluid levels, worn-out clutch plates, or faulty solenoids. Symptoms of transmission issues include slipping, hesitating, or rough shifting. To resolve this issue, it is recommended to check the transmission fluid level, replace the worn-out parts, and perform a transmission flush.
Electrical problems have been reported by some Suzuki Aerio owners, particularly with the SX model. These issues can be caused by faulty wiring, blown fuses, or malfunctioning sensors. Symptoms of electrical problems include flickering dashboard lights, power window malfunctions, and radio cutouts. To fix this issue, it is recommended to replace the faulty parts and perform a diagnostic test.
Brake and suspension issues have also been reported by Suzuki Aerio owners. These issues can be caused by worn-out brake pads, damaged rotors, or faulty shocks and struts. Symptoms of brake and suspension issues include noise or vibration when driving, reduced braking performance, and uneven tire wear. To resolve this issue, it is recommended to replace the worn-out parts and perform a brake and suspension inspection.
It is important to note that regular maintenance and care can help prevent these common issues in the Suzuki Aerio. This includes regular oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections. Addressing any issues as soon as they arise can also help ensure the longevity of the vehicle.

As a regional sales manager, I cover at least 25,000 miles a year. When fuel prices started to rise, I decided to trade my Suzuki XL-7 (which had given me 88,000 trouble-free miles) for an Aerio SX wagon. Although I wasn't initially a fan of the design, it grew on me and now I absolutely love it. I really wanted AWD, but unfortunately, it wasn't available with the manual transmission that I needed. However, after my first test drive, I thought to myself, 'This is a blast!' It's amazing how much room there is in this car - I can even haul a lot of stuff and I've even bought a rooftop carrier for those extra big loads. Despite being 6'2'', I can comfortably wear a Stetson hat in it. The car seats four passengers very well and I always get at least 33 mpg, even when city driving is mixed in. The most I've ever gotten is 37 mpg, and it has plenty of power.

I had a Grand Vitara and was looking for another one that was automatic. When I saw the SX, it immediately started to grow on me. I paid $15,500 loaded, including ABS and climate control. For the money, you can't beat it. It's fun to drive, easy to operate, and turns heads. The warranty that takes the pain out of ownership is also a big plus. I love the way it handles, and it's very peppy while still maintaining good mileage. If you're looking for a great little road rocket without emptying your pocket, this is a great choice.

I chose the Aerio because it was the most affordable AWD vehicle available. What sets this car apart is its unique design that builds up instead of out. I compared it to other cars in the market, but their interiors felt cramped in comparison. Why do automakers make you sit on the floor with your legs out in front of you? This outdated style of automaking should be a thing of the past. The exterior styling has grown on me, and I love being one of the few in my area who owns this car. Other motorists often compliment me on it. I'm amazed that a car in this price range comes with so many standard features.

Despite being less than two years old, my Suzuki Aerio has required significant repairs, including a transmission replacement, head and piston replacements, and even a front axle failure while driving on the interstate. While this has been frustrating, I am confident in my decision to share my experience and advise against purchasing this car. Although we have been told there is nothing that can be done, I believe it is important to inform others of our experience and encourage them to consider alternative options.

This car is a great option for those who are looking for an affordable vehicle. I purchased mine for only $1400 with 95k miles and it has been running well with 98k miles on it now. It's a perfect starter car if you're willing to invest some money in maintenance. For instance, if you're unable to make consistent car payments along with full coverage insurance, but can save up money and eventually fix things, this car is a great option. Contrary to what some people say, this car has a good amount of pep and also provides good gas mileage, averaging about 35mpg on the highway and in the city. I highly recommend it!

Okay, I completely understand that I purchased this car for economical reasons. I used to drive an Integra that was quick and I loved to drive it fast. However, this car is fairly zippy for fun driving downtown and is comfortable on highways. It's faster than the Protege 5 and Toyota Camry, and cheaper than a Civic once you add all of the sporty features. I'd like to try and sell it before my lease is up, so I hope it holds its value well!

It's great to drive, although shifting could be smoother. The fuel economy of 30 on the highway is not very good for such a small car, but it has a lot of amenities for the money and an excellent warranty. The interior is very roomy and can seat four people comfortably, or five if the fifth is a child. However, it may not be the best option for long trips or snow driving due to its low ground clearance, even though it is front-wheel drive. If you live in a snowy area, you might want to consider getting the 4WD version.
