2016 Ford E-450 problems
The Ford E-Series (also known as the Ford Econoline, Ford Econovan or Ford Club Wagon) is a range of full-size vans manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for 1961 as the replacement of the Ford F-Series panel van, four generations of the model line have been produced. Marketed for both cargo and passenger transport configurations, the E-Series has been designed with multiple design variations for both retail and commercial sale, including vans, and commercial-grade cutaway van chassis and stripped chassis (a chassis without bodywork).
With over 8.2 million units sold since 1961, the Ford E-Series is the third-best selling van line in history (outranked only by the Ford Transit and Volkswagen Transporter). Ford retired the E-Series passenger and cargo vans after 2014, replacing them with the Ford Transit. As of current production, the E-Series remains offered exclusively in cutaway and stripped-chassis configurations. In 2021, the model line entered its 60th year of production (becoming the second current Ford line to do so).
The E-Series (cutaway/stripped chassis) is assembled by Ford at its Ohio Assembly facility (Avon Lake, Ohio), which has produced the model line since 1975. Prior to its closure, Lorain Assembly (Lorain, Ohio) assembled the model line from 1961 to 2005.

Common 2016 Ford E-450 problems
The Ford E-450, a popular choice for motorhomes and commercial vehicles, has had its fair share of common problems reported by owners. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues, based on search results:
- Engine Power Problems: Owners have reported issues with engine power, specifically when trying to accelerate. The engine hesitates, especially in first gear from a stop. If the throttle is stabbed, the engine will rev up to about 3500rpm and then start losing rpm and speed, as if it's coasting down a small hill. This issue could be due to a fuel problem, such as a faulty fuel pump or fuel pressure control module.
- Running Lean: Some owners have reported that their E-450s are running lean, which is often indicated by error codes. This issue could be due to a faulty fuel system, including the fuel pump or fuel pressure control module.
- Fuel System Issues: Multiple fuel system issues have been reported, including problems with the fuel filter, fuel pump, and fuel pressure control module. These issues can lead to power loss, hesitation, and other engine performance problems.
- Exhaust System Issues: Issues with the exhaust system, specifically the catalytic converter, have been reported. A bad catalytic converter can cause a decrease in fuel economy, engine stalling, and other serious engine problems.
- Mass Airflow Sensor Problems: The mass airflow sensor, which measures the amount of air going into the engine, can cause engine stalling and other serious engine problems if it's not functioning properly.
- Oxygen Sensor Issues: The oxygen sensor, which measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust, can cause a decrease in fuel economy and other engine performance problems if it's not functioning properly. It's recommended to replace the oxygen sensor every 50,000 miles.
- Engine Overheating: Some owners have reported issues with engine overheating, which can lead to serious engine damage if not addressed promptly.
- EGR System Failure: The EGR system, which recycles exhaust gases back into the engine, can fail due to cool running conditions, leading to major problems on the intake side where the EGR was supposed to be recycling.
These issues can vary in severity and may require different levels of repair. It's important for owners to regularly maintain their vehicles and address any issues promptly to prevent further damage.

- Summary: NHTSA RECALL 17V550: METRO WORLDWIDE BUS VEHICLE EXCEEDS GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING (GVWR) WHEN FULLY LOADED. THE MANUFACTURER'S PROPOSED REMEDY IS TO REMOVE SEATS UNTIL THE GVWR IS IN COMPLIANCE. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED $1,500 PER SEAT REMOVED AS COMPENSATION. BUT REMOVING SEATS DRAMATICALLY REDUCES THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE BUS FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE. IF WE KNEW THAT THE MANUFACTURER COULDN'T FOLLOW THROUGH ON THEIR PROMISE TO PROVIDE VEHICLES MEETING REQUIRED SPECIFICATION, METRO WORLDWIDE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED. WE BELIEVE THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NEGLIGENT AND IN VIOLATION OF THE LAW FOR IMPROPERLY BUILDING THE BUSES. THE DEALER, HOGLUND BUS, WAS ALSO NEGLIGENT FOR SELLING THE BUSES TO US THAT DID NOT COMPLY WITH NHTSA SAFETY STANDARDS. BOTH THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER SHOULD BEAR THE RESPONSIBILITY OF REPLACING THE BUSES AT NO CHARGE. WE BELIEVE FULL BUS REPLACEMENT IS FAIR BECAUSE IF WE WANTED 16, 18 OR 20 PASSENGER BUSES, WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN THEM CHEAPER FROM OTHER MANUFACTURERS THAN THE 22 PASSENGER BUSES METRO WORLDWIDE PROMISED.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-07-31
- VIN: 1FDXE4FS1GD
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: THOR MOTOR COACH SOLD ME A 2016 FOUR WINDS CLASS C MODEL 23U MOTOR HOME WITH A CLASS IV HITCH THAT IS NOT SAFE FOR THE STATED CAPACITY OF 8,000 POUNDS. IF THE HITCH IS USED IN THE STATED 8,000 POUND CAPACITY, THE HITCH WILL FAIL AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. FORD MOTOR COMPANY MAKES THE E450 CHASSIS THAT THE MOTOR HOME BODY IS MOUNTED ON. FORD STATES THAT THE TONGUE WEIGHT FOR A PROPERLY LOADED 8,000 POUND TRAILER SHOULD BE IN THE RANGE OF 800 TO 1,200 POUNDS (10% TO 15%). THOR MOTOR COACH HAS DE-RATED THE HITCH CAPACITY TO 500 POUNDS WHICH RESULTS IN A MAXIMUM SAFE HITCH RATING OF 5,000 POUNDS. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT IF I AM TO HAVE A SAFE TOW WITH AN 8,000 POUND TRAILER, I WILL NEED A MINIMUM OF 800 POUNDS ON THE HITCH WHICH MAY LEAD TO A SUBSTANTIAL AND SERIOUS MECHANICAL FAILURE. THOR MOTOR COACH ADVERTISES THE HITCH AS 8,000 POUNDS WHICH MAY DIRECTLY LEAD TO UNSAFE TOWING. I AM CONCERNED THAT MANY MOTOR HOME OWNERS WILL RELY ON THE THOR MOTOR COACH STATEMENT FOR AN 8,000 POUND HITCH AND SERIOUSLY OVERLOAD THE SUPPLIED HITCH. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT ABOUT 4,500 PEOPLE DIED IN TOWING RELATED ACCIDENTS BETWEEN 2002 AND 2012. I AM ATTACHING A PICTURE OF THE ACTUAL HITCH RATING PLATE. I RECOMMEND THAT THOR MOTOR COACH QUIT ADVERTISING THE HITCH AT 8,000 POUNDS DUE THE ACCIDENT PRONE TOWING CONDITION THIS CREATES.
