2015 Subaru Impreza problems

The Subaru Impreza (Japanese: スバル・インプレッサ, Hepburn: Subaru Inpuressa) is a compact car that has been manufactured by the Japanese automaker Subaru since 1992. It was introduced as a replacement for the Leone, with the predecessor's EA series engines replaced by the new EJ series. It is now in its sixth generation.
Subaru has offered a 5-door hatchback body variant since 2008. The firm also offered a coupé from 1995 until 2001, a 4-door sedan up to the fifth generation, and a 5-door wagon from the Impreza's introduction which was replaced by a hatchback with the third generation in 2008. Mainstream versions have received "boxer" flat-four engines ranging from 1.5- to 2.5-liters, with the performance-oriented Impreza WRX and WRX STI models upgraded with the addition of turbochargers. Since the third generation series, some markets have adopted the abbreviated Subaru WRX name for these high-performance variants. The first three generations of Impreza were also available with an off-road appearance non-SUV package called the Outback Sport, exclusive to the North American market. For the fourth generation, this appearance package was raised up to be subcompact crossover SUV and renamed the XV (Crosstrek in North America), and is sold internationally. Colloquially, the car is sometimes referred to as Scooby.
Subaru has offered front- and all-wheel drive layouts for the Impreza. Since the late-1990s, some markets have restricted sales to the all-wheel drive model, putting the Impreza in a unique selling proposition in the global compact class, which is usually characterized by front-wheel drive. Japanese models remain available in both configurations.
A 2019 iSeeCars study named the Impreza as the lowest-depreciating sedan in the United States after five years.

Common 2015 Subaru Impreza problems
The Subaru Impreza 2015 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:
- CVT Issues: The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) in the Subaru Impreza has been reported to have issues such as slipping, overheating, stalling, and trouble controlling engine speed . This problem is common in newer models of Subaru vehicles that use the Lineatronic CVT system. The CVT uses pulleys instead of gears to control engine speed, and as it ages, the transmission begins to stall, growl, and run erratically. To lessen these issues, it is recommended to use CVT-friendly fluid or replace the thrust washer.
- Fuel Pump Problems: The 2015 Subaru Impreza has been reported to have fuel pump problems that cause the engine to not start or run erratically . This problem is caused by a manufacturing flaw in the Denso fuel pumps that affects the fuel pump's capacity to pump. Subaru issued a recall for the 2019 Impreza to replace these fuel pumps with more dense pumps that are less likely to deform. If your car was exempt from the recall, replacing the pump will cost you about $800.
- Underpowered Brakes: Many Impreza owners from 2011 to 2015 believe that the brakes are underpowered for the car, with unusually long braking distances and sluggish brake pedal response . This problem is particularly concerning because brakes are the most important aspect of an automobile's safety. It is recommended to use premium braking fluid to enhance fluid response and replace the brake kits on each side of the car if you feel that the brakes are also underpowered.
- Rusted Brake Lines: The Subaru Impreza is prone to rust, particularly in the brake lines, which can affect the vital parts of the vehicle . This problem is concerning because rust or corrosion in the brake lines can lead to brake failure.
- Infotainment System: The infotainment system in the Subaru Impreza has been reported to have issues such as freezing, lagging, and not responding to touch inputs . This problem can be frustrating for drivers and passengers, particularly during long trips.
- Oil Consumption: The Subaru Impreza has been reported to consume more oil than expected, particularly in high-mileage vehicles . This problem can lead to increased maintenance costs and decreased engine performance.
- EyeSight Issues: The EyeSight system in the Subaru Impreza has been reported to have issues such as false alarms, slow response times, and not detecting obstacles . This problem can be concerning for drivers who rely on the EyeSight system for safety.
- Unintended Acceleration: The Subaru Impreza has been reported to experience unintended acceleration, particularly in models with CVT . This problem can be dangerous for drivers and passengers, particularly in high-traffic areas.
- Soy Wiring Problems: The Subaru Impreza has been reported to have soy-based wiring insulation that can attract rodents and cause wiring damage . This problem can lead to electrical issues and increased maintenance costs.
- Faulty Brake Switch: The Subaru Impreza has been reported to have a faulty brake switch that can cause the brake lights to stay on or not turn on at all . This problem can be concerning for drivers because it can lead to accidents.
In summary, the Subaru Impreza 2015 has several common problems based on complaints from owners. These problems include CVT issues, fuel pump problems, underpowered brakes, rusted brake lines, infotainment system issues, oil consumption, EyeSight issues, unintended acceleration, soy wiring problems, and faulty brake switches. It is recommended to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
What is the main problem with Subaru Impreza?
Common problems with the Subaru Impreza include engine issues, sudden and abrupt acceleration, transmission failure, and air bag problems. The 2008 and 2012 models of the Subaru Impreza should be avoided, but the rest have generally good reliability.
What are the disadvantages of the Subaru Impreza?
The Subaru Impreza is a roomy and practical little hatchback. Standard all-wheel drive at a reasonable price is a nice bonus too. A lackluster driving experience and a ho-hum cabin design are its biggest drawbacks.
Is Subaru Impreza high maintenance?
A Subaru's typical annual maintenance cost is about $617, slightly lower than the industry average for all vehicles but higher than other Japanese brands like Toyota and Honda.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-03
- VIN: JF1GPAY66F8
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: P0018. P0016
WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-06
- VIN: JF1GPAZ65FH
- Components: WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My 2015 Impreza has had its rear wheel bearings fail twice now, and now there’s still a loud noise coming from the end of my vehicle. My most recent trip to the dealer to get a bearing replaced costed me nearly $800. The kicker is, I just rolled over 65,000 on my car. There’s no reason I should be flying through bearings this fast, and have what seems like a never ending rear-end noise that seems to only be getting louder.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-05
- VIN: JF1GPAA63FH
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Driving the 2015 Subaru Impreza the front hood popped open and crashed into my windshield. Luckily it popped at 30-40 miles per hour and I was able to stop safely. Many damage to the body of the vehicle. It has happened a couple times before (found the hood open) but the safety hook was holding the hood closed. Called the Subaru dealer at San Bernardino and they said that is not a recall for this issue and I asked to talk with a representative and they said someone will call me. After 3 days of waiting to be contacted, I called the insurance to fix the car.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-31
- VIN: JF1GPAW61FH
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: All of a sudden, with no reason whatsoever, my daughter's car has "rod knock" with less than 100,000 miles on it. Bought this Subaru for my daughter so she would have a car that would last a long time and she would be safe. Maintenance was kept up at our local mechanic religiously. I am saddened and disappointed in the mechanical performance of this vehicle. Started with lights going out early in ownership when it was new, and now this. I have a Subaru Impreza as well and am strongly considering trading it in for a Honda. I have family that works for Subaru and I wanted to support family and bought 2 Impreza's based on belief that your brand was highly regarded for longevity and safety. Engine's in vehicles should last more than 100k miles, regardless of the manufacturer. This should be a recall based on internet research. My ask is that Subaru stands up to its marketing and its product and takes care of this repair at no cost.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-19
- VIN: JF1GPAA65FH
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: We bought our 2015 Subaru Impreza from a used car dealer (we are second owner) in February 2020 with 55K miles on it. On our test drive, we noticed the air bag said it was off even with a passenger in the car. We agreed to purchase the vehicle upon repair. It was repaired and the mechanic guaranteed his work, and we had no issues for a year. Then, we moved across the country and the sensor began to sometimes malfunction again. The Subaru dealership quoted something like $3k to fix it. In Googling the issue, I see Subaru has had this issue in previous models. Please open an investigation to see if the problem continues in more recent years.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-26
- VIN: JF1GPAA68F8
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Battery Drain when plugging into the USB port: This is second battery that had to be replaced since purchase of the vehicle.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-01
- VIN: JF1GPAC66F8
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Power Steering failed, extremely hard to turn steering wheel, EPS Light on dash illuminated. Luckily happened in driveway. Thinking back steering seemed odd last week was less effort to turn left as opposed to turning right.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-12-12
- VIN: JF1GPAT62FH
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: Passenger air bag will randomly turn off with passenger riding. This is well know issue with subaru and they still have not sent a recall. With this issue being so wide spread I do not think the dealership should charge over 600 dollars for this repair. I previous did this repair and the same part failed within a year and half.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-07-28
- VIN: JF1GPAU67F8
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: My windshield cracked on its own, with no cause, chip, etc.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-30
- VIN: JF1GJAS6XFH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: I purchased a Subaru for reliability and safety reasons. This car has placed my family in some dangerous situations. Every time the outside temp is 90+ degrees F and it is driven on a road trip of 200+ miles, the car's acceleration shuts off. There is never any warning or check engine/trans lights until after this happens. Nate Wade Subaru in Salt Lake City cannot find any codes and does not know how to help. The car will not restart after being turned off, even after waiting up to an hour. We have had to tow it. The last incident taking place 7/30/2022 with our 19 year old son driving. The worst part is that twice it happened in the far left lane with no option to get over to the right side of the highway safely due to traffic. Cars/trucks from behind have narrowly missed hitting us because there was not enough shoulder to pull out of the way. This has happened both in UT and ID where posted speed limits were 70-80 mph and put us in real danger. I don't know what to do other than sell the car. But I don't feel right doing that without sharing this problem -which would then "kill" the sale. It is unacceptable to not have a fix for this issue or at least a warning light so we know when it might happen.?
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-18
- VIN: JF1GPAT62FH
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: My transmission completely locked up on me while driving at interstate speeds. I was traveling at 65 MPH with the car in regular driving mode, on cruise control and the transmission completely locked up on me. The front tires locked briefly, causing me to go into a small skid, which I was able to correct, and then the engine revved high and I had no power. This lockup and skid caused a rapid deceleration of the vehicle and had there been lots of traffic around me it would have caused a major accident on the interstate, possibly causing fatalities. My transmission completely locked up once I went through the nearest intersection to get to a side road. This left me stranded in the middle of a major highway intersection with no ability to physically push my vehicle out of the way. The vehicle behind me just about rear-ended me. This has been a major issue with these transmissions and a major safety issue. These transmissions should be put on a recall since this is a major safety issue. The extended warranty that Subaru has put out only waits for a problem to occur, this does not save lives but only puts them in danger. They should be FORCED to do a recall. No warning lights illuminated on the dash prior to the transmission locking up. The vehicle has been inspected by a certified mechanic and has diagnosed that it is an issue with the transmission itself and no other component on the vehicle. This issue of the CVT transmission is well documented.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-27
- VIN: JF1GJAS68FH
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: Hood flew open on interstate. After driving around town running errands I drove onto the interstate got like a mile down the road. I was in the left lane going about 60 mph the hood flew open. Smashing directly into the windshield. I thankfully was able to hit my four ways and get to a stop without any collision. I couldn’t say exactly when the hood had been opened last but certainly was not recent to this occurring. Quite severe damage was caused from this happening. Immediate estimate of damages were shown to the hood, fenders, roof, windshield and unknown damage as of yet under the hood or to the eyesight system.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-28
- VIN: JF1GPAA65F8
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Yesterday, March 28, 2022 I stopped to run into a shop. Left my windows down because it was hot. My AC fan doesn’t work half the time. When I put my keys in the ignition, the key would not turn to accessories or ignite the car to start. The steering wheel was locked. The park gear shift wouldn’t move. I tried forcing these for at least 15 minutes. I had my emergency key fob and tried it repeatedly, too, but still I don’t know why it turned finally. I took to Subaru today who had a technical bulletin about it, fixed it for no charge. Says letter has gone out but I hadn’t received it. Why? I live alone, am 73, and do not have anyone to call to help. It’s unsafe because one could be stuck in the car when bad weather is outside creating a dangerous situation. Subaru called this Park-Range repair.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-09-19
- VIN: JF1GPAA6XFH
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: When leaving a gas station with a slight dip in the pavement, I inched my vehicle forward as slowly as I could as to not “bottom out.” This 2015 Impreza model has an overall design flaw; it sits too low to the ground therefore compromising the entire structure of the body. The Impreza in fact bottomed out and my entire front end cracked and fell off as well as the side panel on the front of the vehicle came apart and now hangs off the vehicle. I have seen NUMEROUS Subaru Imprezas that appeared to be the same make and model with this same exact problem. I believe this entire car should be recalled as it is structurally flawed, cannot maneuver safely and properly on standard roads and highways which results in body damage that is completely NOT operator error.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-06
- VIN: JF1GPAA65F8
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: When put key in ignition, the car doesn’t start. The key can not be taken out of ignition. Numerous jiggles. Put foot on the brake, take foot off the brake. Eventually starts. Fear will be unable to take key out of ignition.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-02-02
- VIN: JF1GPAT63F8
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Smoke and oil burning smell entering cabin through vents. I have two young children. I’m concerned of toxic fumes. Coming from oil leaking onto exhaust manifold and at only 52,000 miles on odometer!
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-09-28
- VIN: jf1gpac64fh
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: The contact owns a 2015 SUBARU Impreza. The contact stated that no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-03-22
- VIN: JF1GPAW69F8
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: CAR WON'T TURN OVER IGNITION. ALL BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. IT IMPACTED BRAKING, VDC SYSTEM, ABS SYSTEM AND CRUISE CONTROL DIDN'T WORK. OCCURRED AFTER 2 HOUR TRIP WITH NO CONCERNS AND FUNCTIONING SYSTEMS.ONLY NOTICED WHEN TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-02-28
- VIN: JF1GJAA64FH
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: A BAD OIL VALVE IN THE ENGINE TRIPPED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT UPON STARTING THE CAR. THE BAD VALVE WAS POSSIBLY LETTING SLUDGE GET INTO THE ENGINE. AT ONLY 60K ANDWITH DOING RELIGIOUS OIL CHANGES ON TIME, THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECTIVE PART FOR WHICH A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT NOT A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-02-15
- VIN: JF1GJAA65FH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS (AT AROUND 16K MILES) THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME WHEN I WOULD TRY TO PARK, I'D PLACE MY CAR IN PARK, HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, BUT I COULD NOT TURN THE KEY FROM THE ACC POSITION TO THE LOCK POSITION AND ALSO COULD NOT REMOVE THE KEY. I'D HAVE TO CYCLE THE CAR ON, REVERSE A FEW FEET, GO FORWARD TO MY PARKING SPOT, PUT IN PARK AND TRY TO TURN OFF. I OFTEN HAD TO DO IT 5+ TIMES TO BE ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY. ON THIS SITE I FOUND SOME INFORMATION FROM SUBARU CLAIMING THAT SOME CARS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH CONTAMINANTS GETTING TO THE "PLATE GUIDE B." ONCE I SAW THE ILLUSTRATIONS I REALIZED THAT A COMPONENT OF PLATE GUIDE B IS A LITTLE SWITCH. THE BUTTON ON THE GEAR SHIFT KNOB HAS A PLUNGER THAT DROPS WHEN THE BUTTON IS RELEASED; WHEN IT FUNCTIONS PROPERLY THAT PLUNGER SHOULD COME TO REST ON THE SWITCH IN PLATE GUIDE B AND DEACTIVATE THE LOCK IN THE IGNITION. IT SEEMS THAT OVER TIME THERE WAS A LOSS OF SPRING TENSION EITHER IN THE GEAR SHIFT KNOB OR IN THE LITTLE SWITCH SO THE PLUNGER WAS NOT ACTIVATING THE SWITCH. AFTER LEARNING ALL THIS I WAS ABLE TO DO THE REPAIR WITHOUT REPLACING ANY COMPONENTS, AND NOW THAT I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING, IT CAN BE DONE IN ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND REQUIRES ONLY A FLAT HEAD SCREWDRIVER, A PHILIP'S SCREWDRIVER, A PAIR OF NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS AND A FLASHLIGHT. I JUST HAD TO REMOVE THE CENTER CONSOLE (TWO SCREWS IN THE BACK SEAT ONE ON EACH SIDE AND ONE UNDER THE HAND BRAKE BOOT, DISASSEMBLE THE GEAR SHIFTER COVER. (ALL PLASTIC CLIPS EASILY UNDONE WITH A FLAT HEAD SCREWDRIVER), KNOB, AND DUST COVER TO EXPOSE THE SWITCH AND THEN BEND THE EXPOSED END OF THE SWITCH SLIGHTLY UPWARD SO THE SHIFTER KNOB'S PLUNGER WILL ACTIVATE IT AGAIN. THE SWITCH LOOKS LIKE A SMALL FLAT PIECE OF METAL. I JUST HELD IT FIRMLY IN PLACE WITH A FLAT SCREW DRIVER THEN PULLED UP (GENTLY) ON THE END OF IT WITH NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS TO BEND IT SLIGHTLY UPWARD.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-01-06
- VIN: JF1GPAY66F8
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I HAVE A 2015 SUBARU IMPREZA WITH 31,000 MILES (OUT OF WARRANTYDUE TO AGE). THECAR HAS DEVELOPED A SMALL OIL LEAK FROM THE CAM CARRIER COVER (AKA VALVE COVER) ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND THE O2 SENSOR CAUSING A LOT OF SMOKE THAT THEN ENTERS THE CABIN. SUBARU'S ESTIMATE $4973.87. READING SUBARU FORUMS I'VE COME TO DISCOVER THAT THIS IS A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM IN VEHICLES DATING BETWEEN 2012 AND 2017. DUE TO THE SMOKE IT CREATES IN THE CABIN, AND THE HEALTH RISKS THERE IN, AND THE SHORT LIFE OF THE PART IN QUESTION, I'D RECOMMEND A RECALL BE ISSUED.

I recently purchased this car and have driven 22k miles on it. As my first Subaru, I am very pleased with its convenience and affordability as an AWD car for commuting. The backseat is quite comfortable, especially for kids, and there's plenty of trunk space to fit my needs. I always keep a small shovel, scraper, extra set of winter clothes, small blanket, first aid, flashlights, and other emergency items in a good-sized tote, which only takes up less than half of the room. The car handles snow and dirt roads with ease, and I've even taken it camping a few times this past summer without any problems. The visibility is also very nice, and I can easily check the blind spots. Despite hearing some negative comments about the tires, I have yet to experience any issues with them except for a puncture caused by a pothole. In terms of gas mileage, I've been able to get 37-38 mph when driving for fuel economy and a nice 33 mph when not. This is very good for an AWD car, which comes in handy since I drive about 70 miles a day for work. The acceleration is quite good considering it is a CVT, and the noise is not too bad. At 22k miles, I have yet to experience any reliability issues, but I will post again later down the road at much higher mileage.I go to a Subaru dealer/service place often and the people there are very nice. They always try their best to make the most out of your warranty. For instance, when I had to fix a punctured tire, they fixed it for free. I have been using their services since I got my last car. Personally, I really like the look of the 2015 Impreza. Although the front looks very similar to a Legacy, I do not mind them reusing the look for this car. As standard, the car comes with an entertainment touch screen. You can hook up your phone via Bluetooth to listen to music and take phone calls, which works nicely. I have not yet had a problem with it. It also comes with powered windows, powered mirrors, a USB port in the center armrest (which can be inconvenient at times), a lighter, a rearview camera (with a very clear and big screen), and steel wheels (which can be upgraded to alloy steels). The car also has a Starlink app that you can use from your phone to your car, but the app is not very good (check the app store for reviews on that). For my daily commute of 70 miles, I feel comfortable and happy so far. I would highly recommend this car to people who drive through snow every year and to new drivers who are not used to driving in nasty weather. This car is definitely worth at least a test drive at your local Subaru dealership. I really enjoy this car so much that I helped my mother get her own Subaru. I hope this review helps you out in some way!
-
I'm really impressed with the car overall. It's so versatile and fun to drive. Despite what some people have said about the acceleration, I find it perfectly fine as long as you use the CVT correctly. Plus, the gas mileage is incredible! I only have to fill up about once a month, even though I don't drive a lot for work. I've driven it through some pretty big snow storms in Denver this year and it's been extremely impressive. I haven't even slid once! The car feels really secure and safe in regular conditions too. The only downsides are the seat quality on the premium model, which seems to stain easily, and the entertainment system, which can be a bit awkward to use. But overall, I'm planning on driving this car forever and I think it's a great choice for most people.

*EDIT* So, I have driven 8k miles on my car now. I am not sure if it is because of the winter season or something else, but I recently drove 600 miles (mostly on the freeway) to Tahoe and back, and got 26.7 MPG for the trip. I feel like the MPG is decreasing over time. My total MPG on the 8k miles is 29.1, which I think is a bit low since I mostly drive on the freeway. Please keep in mind that the YOKOHOMA AVID S34 tires get some bad reviews and I feel like they slip on wet pavement sometimes. People also complain about decreased fuel economy over time and general durability issues. There is some creaking developing in the car, but I will update if it goes away. Otherwise, the car is holding up well. ************Original Post*********************I got the Sport Premium w/ moonroof package for 22k last month, and I have put 1000 miles on the car. Many people complain about the noise, but I have had no issues with it. The Bluetooth struggles a bit at highway speeds, but it works fine when I need it. There is an interesting whirring sound when driving at low speeds, which I am not sure if it is normal, but it has been there since I got the car. Also, the aux input creates an annoying sound when the device plugged in is not on. Besides that, I love the easy access storage room. I can fit 2 bikes in the back and still seat 3 people. Overall, since I bought the car, I have gotten 28.8 MPG, so I am looking for improvement there.

I'm so glad I made the switch from my beloved Mazda 3 to the Subaru Impreza with manual transmission, especially with all the heavy snow we get up here in the North East. While the road noise is a bit more noticeable in the Subaru, the driving stability is incomparable. I used to be terrified of driving in the snow, but now I actually enjoy it thanks to the Impreza's unbeatable all-wheel drive system and incredible traction. Even in the worst snow, I can change lanes on the highway without any shaking or slipping. It's truly unbelievable how stable this car is. No regrets whatsoever!

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2015 Impreza 2.0i Sport Premium hatchback with CVT. It's been a great car for me and my family, especially since it's safe, reliable, and fuel efficient. Plus, it's been able to accommodate my son's ¾ size bass (double-bass), which is a huge plus! While it's not a WRX, the engine has enough power to launch the car from a stop. I don't mind the engine noise, and the transmission is as quiet as the 5 speed auto in my Honda. I'm happy to report that the wind noise that used to afflict our old outback is gone. The sound system is great too, so I don't plan on upgrading the speakers. As of the Oct. 17, 50,000mi update, the car gets an average of 34mpg without any hypermiler tricks. While it's not a race car, it's definitely capable. I did have to use the warranty at 8,000mi when the manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP sensor) went out, but other than that, it's been trouble-free. I replaced the original tires at 39,000mi, which made a big improvement in noise and rain traction. Overall, it's a fuel-efficient car with enough room for 4 adults and adequate trunk space for weekend trips (although it might be a bit small for week-long trips to the beach).

I've had my car for three years now and it seems like some of the components are starting to wear out. Specifically, all of the suspension components had to be replaced at 40K. I suspect there was something congenitally wrong with them as my first set of tires wore out at 22K and when the second set wore out at 40K in the same way. Despite trips to the dealer (Prime Subaru of Manchester, NH), the problem was not spotted. As this was almost entirely suburban commuter driving (no highways, no off-road), I'm disappointed that I had to spend over $3000 in repairs and service. On a side note, Prime took over Manchester Subaru, the dealer from whom I bought the car, and the quality of the service has deteriorated. I noticed this when I brought the car in for scheduled service. The worst part was that I was scared to drive the car. When I did take it out on the highway, the car would vibrate and you'd get this feeling that the body was going to lift off the wheels. Even after the repairs, the hood vibrates a good deal in modest winds and if you cross a bridge in a crosswind, prepare for a violent shove to one side. Adding to this, my wife had a bad experience with the engine in her '12 Outback failing at 120K and requiring almost $5000 in repairs. I have to say, I'm not too happy with the brand. The attitude from Subaru Corporate didn't help either. In her case, they told us we used the wrong oil in her car until we showed them a picture of the oil fill cap that confirmed we hadn't. I really wanted to like this car, but over the last 10,000 miles, a lot has happened to change my mind.

So you have it. I have driven 21K miles so far in my 2015 impreza. I bought this car mainly because I could not afford the wrx, and this would be a good commuter. I have the manual gear box.. and its my first.. and i have to say i don't like it at all. The reverse gear has a hard time engaging sometimes. The first gear is not smooth to get into. The gas mileage on the reader and what i get when i calculate is totally off.. i am getting my 27 mpg highway.. which is totally less than what they stated. I think you should just go with the wrx or the suv. I will switch to a wrx next year.

I was initially drawn to the Subaru due to their impressive marketing and eco-friendly features, which perfectly suited our camping lifestyle and love for dogs. The car performed well until the warranty expired, and we experienced some issues such as the clutch assembly needing replacement and the weather stripping falling off. However, I must commend Subaru for repairing the clutch assembly for free, which restored my faith in the brand. Unfortunately, we have since encountered other problems such as the interior deteriorating, the tires wearing out too quickly, and frequent headlight and fog light bulb replacements. We also had to deal with the brake light switch recall and a costly horn repair. It is disappointing that a car less than 4 years old with only 48k miles on it requires such frequent and expensive repairs. In contrast, my previous car, a 1984 Volvo 240 DL with nearly 300k miles, rarely needed repairs. Although I had hoped to keep the Subaru for life, I am now eager to replace it.

I am disappointed with my Subaru experience. Prior to purchasing my current Subaru, I had heard from various Subaru owners that they will not drive any other car but a Subaru and that Subaru cars have a high resell value. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with my car, including difficulty moving out of park, which has left me stranded. Despite taking my car to the dealership four times for the same issue, and even involving a Subaru rep twice, the issue persists. When I contacted customer service, they offered a settlement of $2500, but declined to buy back the car. While I am disappointed with the outcome, I appreciate the effort made by customer service. I hope that Subaru will continue to improve their products and customer service in the future.

If you live in a snowy, icy, hilly area, this vehicle is a great option, especially considering its excellent gas mileage. However, the interior may not be up to par, as it has been known to fall apart. Additionally, the climate control system may not be the best, as it struggles to heat, cool, or defrost effectively.
