2000 Saab 95 problems

saab logo

The Saab 95 is a seven-seater, two-door station wagon which was produced by Saab from 1959 to 1978.

Initially it was based on the Saab 93 sedan, but the model's development throughout the years followed closely that of the Saab 96 after the 93 was taken off the market in 1960. It was introduced in 1959, but because only 40 were made in 1959, production is often said to have started in 1960.

The first engine was an 841 cc three-cylinder two-stroke, but from 1967 onward, it became available with the same four-stroke Ford Taunus V4 engine as used in the Saab 96, the Saab Sonett V4 and Sonett III, and the German Ford Taunus. It had a four-speed manual transmission. There was a small handle on the firewall that, when pushed, put the car into a "freewheeling" mode. This allowed the driver to coast downhill without seizing the two-stroke engine, but when power was needed the transmission would engage and the driver could power the car up hill again. As the 95 received the four-speed gearbox before the 96 (that still had the old three-speed unit) it was also used for rallying.

In the US, the Saab 95 received the larger 1.7 litre V4 for the 1971 model year, as a response to tighter emissions regulations. The compression ratio was lowered to 8.0:1, meaning that the power remained at 73 hp (54 kW). The Saab 95/96 remained on sale in the United States until 1973.

A rear-facing folding seat was dropped with the 1976 model year, making the car a regular five-seater. Production ended in 1978 (when only 470 examples were built). A total of 110,527 were made.

For certain markets (Norway, Denmark) a special export version sedan delivery van was available without a rear seat and rear side windows.

Common 2000 Saab 95 problems

The Saab 95 2000 is known for several common problems that owners have reported over the years. These issues range from electrical problems to engine and transmission issues, as well as suspension and body and exterior problems.

Electrical problems are a significant concern for the Saab 95 2000. The car's electrical system is known to have issues, including problems with the ignition switch, dashboard lights, and power windows. Some owners have reported problems with the car's electrical system, which can result in issues such as a dead battery or problems with the alternator

Engine problems are another common issue for the Saab 95 2000. Some owners have reported issues with the engine, including oil sludge buildup, which can cause engine damage and failure. Additionally, the engine may experience issues such as turbo failure, problems with the timing chain, and overheating

Transmission problems are also a concern for the Saab 95 2000. The car's automatic transmission may experience issues such as slipping gears, hard shifting, and problems with the torque converter

Suspension problems are another common issue for the Saab 95 2000. The car's suspension may experience issues with worn-out shocks, struts, and bushings, which can cause excessive vibrations, noise, and a rough ride

Body and exterior issues are also a concern for the Saab 95 2000. The car is known to have issues with rust, especially around the wheel arches, and the car's paint may fade or peel over time. Additionally, some owners have reported issues with the car's headlights, which can be expensive to replace

It is important to note that not all Saab 95 2000 models will have these problems, and it is always recommended to have a mechanic inspect the car before purchasing to identify any potential problems and to have a better understanding of the condition of the car. Regular servicing and maintenance can also help avoid any problems that may arise in the future.

What year of Saab is the most reliable?

The Saab 900 (1994-1998) is a mid-size luxury car produced by the Swedish automaker Saab. It is the fourth generation of the Saab 900 series. Known for its Scandinavian design, innovative features, and solid build quality, the Saab 900 (1994-1998) is considered one of the most reliable Saabs in its lineup.

What is the problem with the 2000 Saab 93?

Here are some of the most widely reported problems for the Saab 9-3.

  • ABS or Traction Control Light Illuminate Due to Corroded Wiring. ...
  • Engine Coolant Loss. ...
  • Loud Noises When Driving on Rough Road. ...
  • Engine Dies While Driving. ...
  • Excessive Exhaust Noise.

Is a Saab 9-5 good?

A great, reassuring, sold safe family cruiser that turns heads due to its rarity. I have a 2009 1.9 TID diesel and have been very impressed with its fuel economy, dropping to 4.7 litre/100km on a long run. Its an automatic too and drives like a luxury car, but when the turbo kicks in it has decent acceleration.

How long does a Saab turbo last?

Turbos are designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle (or around 150,000 miles); however, it's possible for them to wear out over time depending on how hard you drive the car and the original build quality of the turbo.

Negative 2000 Saab 95 car reviews

  1. Marco McClure 2024-02-09

I bought my certified pre-owned 2000 Saab 9-5 in July of 2003 and have been enjoying a smooth, comfortable ride with little to no quality problems. I would definitely recommend this car to other purchasers, especially the certified pre-owned program at Saab. The trunk space is fantastic, and it drives great in the harsh winter weather on icy roads (I live in Michigan). It's a very safe feeling car. My only complaint is a little bit of lag in the acceleration, but it's not so much that it drives me crazy. Overall, I think it's a great car at a solid price.

Positive 2000 Saab 95 car reviews

  1. Cary Ondricka 2024-11-15

The 9-5 is a significant improvement over the previous 9000 in most every way. The Aero model is a great combination of practicality and performance. It's roomy, safe, has good gas mileage, and is fun to drive with great performance. The ride is surprisingly comfortable given the capabilities of the suspension to hold the road.

  2. Louvenia Rogahn 2024-11-11

Despite some quirks and warranty-covered reliability issues, this car has been a joy to drive. It rides smoothly and has ample power for both city and highway driving. The interior layout and ergonomics are superb, and the overall build quality is good. Although we have experienced some frustration with the need for two new turbos (one of which was likely not installed perfectly), frequent light bulb replacements, and a couple of battery changes, we have found the cargo room to be quite spacious. Overall, we have enjoyed our experience with this car.

  3. Orin Koepp 2024-11-06

I recently purchased a used Saab 9-5 SE with 98000 miles on it, which was a dream come true for me. However, after a while, I started experiencing some issues with the car, such as oil leaks, a blown oil gasket, ABS module failure, and a snapped serpentine belt due to a blown belt tensioner. Unfortunately, these repairs cost me around $3000 within a year. Despite these setbacks, I still have a soft spot for this car and enjoy driving it on long highway rides. I have come to realize that it is better suited as a second car. Perhaps I need to find a support group for Saab enthusiasts.

  4. Bart Boyer 2024-10-18

This is my second Saab car and I have thoroughly enjoyed driving it. It is sleek and sporty, with lots of creature comforts. At night, the dashboard lights up like a cockpit. It would be even better if it had one more cupholder for the front seat passenger.

  5. Bell Gutmann 2024-09-27

This is the second Saab that you have owned. I'm glad to hear that you love driving it and the way it handles!
