  • Summary: With only 670 miles on a new set of tires, an inspection for a completely unrelated reason found that there was a bulge in 3 of the 4 NEW tires. Installed in Jun, issue found in Dec; car is driven very little. Tires were purchased from Tire Rack and installed by Discount Tire. Inspection by Discount tire found the 3 defective tires. They report bulges as "impact damage". I have had one other tire ever with impact damage in 180,000 miles on this 20+ year old car. On this set of tires, there were no incidents, such as hitting a curb or pothole. I have to believe that these tires have a manufacturing defect. For all I know, they had a sidewall bulge from day one. I am replacing all four tires. I have contacted Vredestein customer service, at both domestic and international email customer service contacts. They have not answered, even with an acknowledgement of receipt.

Have not there been cases of the same issues happening to these airbags? Is my 2017 front passenger Airbag going to explode like a grenade and kill me? These are all questions I have, but I am told these airbags are safe. Yet I have seen lawsuits where someone died in another vehicle make but with 2017 Takata airbags as the cause of death and or injury. Should not my car have been replaced with non Takata brand airbags? Are any Takata airbags safe when compared to other brands?

  • Summary: 7/26/22 10:23pm on interstate 25 North of Denver mile 249 I was not able to stop and rear ended another vehicle. My air bags did not deploy there were no dash lights indicating any problem with the airbags prior to the accident. My vehicle was not drivable and was towed to H&R Towing in Johnstown, CO. The only inspection so far has been by an Amica Insurance adjuster. My set belt pretensioner held me fast but the crown of my head went forward into the visor area I was dazed. I went by ambulance to MCR hospital in Loveland diagnosed with a concussion. I had other bruises from the seatbelt and hitting my left knee on the dash. The damage to my car begins at the driver’s side headlamp area and radiates across the font of the car to the headlights on the passenger side. The hood was folded back and there is significant damage to all the components in the front part of the engine compartment. I’ve tried to contact Saab cars but no response, they stopped building cars in 2011. I tried GM as well, no response.

The most recent issue I had was with the turbo, and it was quite frustrating. It seemed like the car was constantly in the garage. Overall, it was not a great experience.

    I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my Saab. I purchased it on 10/04 with 39,000 miles and was thrilled to get it at a good price. However, over the past five months, I've had to spend $3,500 on repairs. I just wanted to give you a heads up that Saabs, especially models from 99-01, have an inherent problem with their electronic distributors. Unfortunately, they tend to fail regularly and can cost $450+ per distributor to replace (there are two on the V6). Despite the cost, it's still a great car and fun to drive. I just wanted to make sure you're aware of the potential repair costs. Take care!

    Before purchasing this car, please listen to the warnings! Based on my experience, this car is not worth the headaches you will more than likely endure. I bought this car in March of 2011 with 85K miles on it. During the first month, I drove the car for only one full week while carpooling with a group of peers. Unfortunately, on day 34, the engine seized. I had to replace the engine and since then, I have also had to replace numerous belts, sensors, and pumps. Every 3-4 weeks, this car was in the shop and needed a new overpriced part that was impossible to find. I have learned the hard way that engine failure is a common problem with this year. Recently, the engine I purchased to replace the original one seized on us as well. Therefore, I strongly advise you to save your money and think twice before making a purchase!!

    We bought the car used with 85,000 miles on it. The car facts showed only one previous owner and all maintenance was up to date. We thought it was a good value for the price of $8999 before taxes. The dealer was upfront with us about SAAB going under and that new parts would have to be purchased out of the country. However, he also informed us of a couple of SAAB dealerships still operating in our area. We test drove the car and fell in love with the luxury of the seats, sunroof, and the super awesome Boise surround sound system. The Turbo pick up and go was also impressive. After our purchase, we experienced some issues with the car. The headlights started going out and the circuit to the headlights started separating from the circuit board, which had to be re-soldered on. By 98,000 miles, the car started idling rough and eventually died while my husband was driving on the freeway. Fortunately, he was able to get the car to start again and drive off of the freeway, only to have it die again on the street. We called AAA and by the time the tow truck arrived, the battery had completely died out. We got it to a mechanic, who recommended a new transmission. Our dealer was able to locate a refurbished transmission with a 6-month warranty, and $1600 later, the car's check engine light pops back on. The loaner car that our dealer let us borrow during the transmission fix was a 2007 Saab 9-5, which also had check lights flashing on its display.

    I am now a three-time SAAB owner. This time, I live in Norway. I chose the Aero box because it closely resembles my Norway-model, except for the engine. My SAAB has sports-seats, automatic transmission, metal dash, leather, and 17-inch wheels. Although it only has a 150-horsepower 2.0-turbo, it provides all the power one needs here (and I'd say also in the US). The 9-5 is a great car, much peppier than my 1995 9000 US-export, which had a 2.3-turbo. The ride is much smoother than the 9000, and the feeling is more one of soft luxury, even though these SAABs are considered family cars here in Norway and Sweden.

    This is my second 9-5 and I decided to go for the power and get an Aero. I am so glad I did! For the past 6 years, I have been driving a '99 9-5 for business, and the two vehicles are as opposite as they get. I can't stand getting behind the wheel of my '99 anymore. The Aero has plush seats, a quieter ride, better looks, and ohhhhh that pavement-hungry engine! I can't begin to count the number of friends who own all those overpriced German cars who take a ride in mine and get out saying, 'WOW!' The athletic handling and passing ability of this car is unreal. I keep my driving status quo, but on occasion, I have to show obnoxious drivers who's boss. BMW and VW drivers look dazed at the stoplight!

    I'm so glad I purchased my Saab! I needed a sedan to match my Suburban's corporate style, without being too flashy, and the 9-5 was the perfect choice. It's actually a bit of a secret gem - a great car that not many people know about. I was able to get mine at a fantastic price, and while it may not be the most refined car out there, it's still a joy to drive. On the highway, I get an impressive 30mpg, and it's a blast to take on curves. Even my wife, who drives a Volvo XC70, agrees that the Saab is the better choice - it's just so much fun! Of course, the Suburban is great for family trips and outdoor adventures, but the Saab is perfect for when I want to have a bit of fun. Plus, I get compliments on it all the time!

    The Saab Aero wagon is an exceptional car that offers a great balance of price, performance, comfort, fuel economy, and cargo space. I noticed that the car has no torque steer, which is a significant improvement from my old Viggen. The automatic transmission shifts seamlessly, and the car corners with minimal body lean, which is impressive for a wagon. The vented and heated seats are fantastic, and the auto-dimming interior and outside mirrors should become the standard on all cars. The Harmon Kardon stereo sounds incredible. As a Saab convert, this is my second Saab, and I still find it to be a unique and wonderful car!

    After driving several fleet Saab 9-5s in Norway, we decided to buy one when we moved to Canada. It's a really spacious car, with great pace on the highway and (from our experience in Norway) good dynamics on hard pack snow, despite not being 4WD. The car comes with lots of great gadgets (for the price) which fortunately do not lead to a profusion of switches and clutter. Our only gripe is that the interior plastic surfaces are easily marked.

    I had the pleasure of driving a Saab 9-3 Aero before, but unfortunately it was sold. However, I was lucky enough to get my hands on this 9-5 Arc. Although the 9-5 Arc is not as sporty as the 9-3 Aero, it is a fantastic touring car that is larger and more spacious. The ride is incredibly smooth and the interior is beautifully designed. I absolutely adore this car - the 2.3 L turbo provides power on demand and it also has great gas mileage, as long as you avoid city driving conditions. Although I have only owned it for a short time, I have done my research and it seems that routine maintenance is key, including Synthetic Oil changes every 4-5K miles.
