2011 Ram 1500 problems
The Ram pickup (marketed as the Dodge Ram until 2010) is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by Stellantis North America (formerly Chrysler Group LLC and FCA US LLC) and marketed from 2010 onwards under the Ram Trucks brand. The current fifth-generation Ram debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, in January of that year.
Previously, Ram was part of the Dodge line of light trucks. The name Ram was first used in 1981 model year Dodge Trucks in October 1980, following the retiring and rebadging of the Dodge D series pickup trucks as well as B-series vans, though the company had used a ram's-head hood ornament on some trucks as early as 1933.
Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year eight times; the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third-generation Ram heavy-duty won the award in 2003, the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010 and the fourth-generation Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014, and the current fifth-generation Ram pickup became the first truck in history to win the award three times, winning in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Common 2011 Ram 1500 problems
The 2011 Ram 1500 has been known to have several issues, with electrical problems being particularly common. A total of 152 electrical problems have been reported for this model year.
Another major issue with the 2011 Ram 1500 is engine problems, with 79 complaints reported to the NHTSA. Faulty camshaft lifters inside the 5.7L Hemi V8 have led to owners experiencing abnormal shaking and knocking sounds. Engine misfires, especially from cylinder number three and five, are also common complaints.
Fuel system problems have also been reported for the 2011 Ram 1500, with 37 complaints filed with the NHTSA. The fuel pump failures are the result of a defective relay, stemming from the faulty Total Integrated Power Module (TPIM). The pump has a mind of its own, turning on and off even when the car is not running, causing severe battery drain and leaving multiple owners stranded.
In addition to these issues, the 2011 Ram 1500 has also had problems with the powertrain, with drivers reporting the vehicle rolling away after putting the transmission in park. The 2011 and 2012 models have a lot of complaints about their powertrain.
The 2011 Ram 1500 has also had issues with its tires, with some owners reporting a small oil drop on the driver side front. Oil checks out, nothing loose so ? Still driving my Ram and still love it! I've got 150K and no issues at all with it.
The 2011 Dodge Ram Bighorn 5.7 Liter V8 addition has had problems with reliability, with the transmission having to be replaced within 11,000 miles (under warranty), the FOB key system starting to click and ultimately having to be replaced at about 40K miles (out of warranty), the A/C compressor going out and having to be replaced at about 60K miles, and the vehicle starting to idle or run very rough at lower rpm's (under 1K) due to a broken bracket under the 5th Cylinder, cost to repair $5800.
The 2011 Ram 1500 has also had issues with its fuel pump relay, which can cause intermittent starting issues. This is a rather expensive repair, as it requires replacing the fuel pump relay.
The 2011 Ram 1500 has also had problems with its airbags, with some owners reporting that the airbags have not deployed in accidents or have deployed without an accident taking place. This is due to a circuit used in crash detection that could fail, feeding the control unit bad information.
The 2011 Ram 1500 has also had issues with its side-impact collision safety, with the NHTSA issuing a safety concern for side-impact collision in the 2011 Ram. The truck scored an overall side impact rating of five stars in the NHTSA’s crash tests, but the crash dummy suffered extra damage to the abdomen in side pole crashes, which simulate an accident where a vehicle slides sideways into something like a tree or a telephone pole.
In summary, the 2011 Ram 1500 has had several issues, with electrical problems, engine problems, fuel system problems, powertrain problems, tire problems, and airbag problems being particularly common. These issues have caused inconvenience, safety concerns, and expensive repairs for many owners.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-27
- VIN: 1D7RV1GT0BS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: My truck stalled on I26 in Johnson City; I was able to get to the shoulder and was able to get it started again, and it seemed to work ok. After that I started having issues with it not starting, but if I turned the key off, and tried again it would start. I searched the internet and found that the TIPM module in this model truck is the culprit for this issue and that there is a "work around that is sold on EBAY and other sites where the fuel pump relay is bypassed by using a wire and providing power to the fuel pump from the battery voltage of the ACC side of the switch. Last week I turned the truck off, and all electrical functions stopped working it was as if my battery was gone. After another internet search, this issue leads back to the TIPM module and to my surprise I found a recall 14V115 on the 2011 2012Dodge Durango and Jeep for the exact same issues that I am experiencing with my truck. As I continued to search, I found MANY repair facilities that can "fix" this problem in their shops. I believe based on what I have been told that this TIPM is the same for the RAM truck series also. Can you please let me know why DODGE RAM has not added this model to their recall; I talked to their customer recall support and the answer I got was I'm sorry sir, but your model truck isn't covered under that recall # it is the Durango and Jeep models only; and that was it. Thanks for your investigation into this matter for all of the RAM owners out there. Be safe on the road and thank you for watching out for the consumer.
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-17
- VIN: 1D7RV1CT7BS
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: This issue has been experienced more than 5 times and only occurs while turning. While making both left and right hand turns, the steering wheel locks mid turn and the engine completely shuts off resulting in the inability to turn in any direction. The first time this happened, I almost went into a ditch and today as I turned to cross an intersection, I lost all steering control and the truck shut down mid turn in the middle of the intersection. This left the truck immobilized in the intersection and facing into oncoming traffic. Following each incident, I put the truck in park and restart it as if there was no issue. There are no warning lights that appear prior to any of the incidents that would indicate an issue and the instrument panel goes dark each time the issue occurs. This is going to get me and/or my family killed one of these days. I have researched this online and there are countless reports from other 2011 Ram owners experiencing the same exact issue. How has a safety recall not been issued for this?
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-01
- VIN: 1D7RV1CTXBS
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: TIPM... Integrated Fuel Pump Relay, intermittent condition causes the truck to stall this is a common complaint and a significant cost to repair. Vehicle hard starts and stalls several times during inclement weather / cold starts and is an active concern while driving the vehicle. Fuel pump relay bypass is the only affordable fix as the relay is connected directly to the TIPM. No warning lights indicate any failure. Vehicle has been to dealer but due to the intermittent condition it was not repeatable at that time. This condition was investigated in 2014 but continues to be a problem. Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango both had recalls on this TIPM but due to the reporting statistics within NHTSA this vehicle was not included in the recall.

2011 Ram 1500 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2011 Ram 1500.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2009-2012 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks currently, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Exposure to environmental conditions such as water mixed with road salt may cause the front fuel tank strap frame "T-Slot" bracket to corrode, possibly causing the fuel tank to drop and make contact with the ground.
- Consequence: If the fuel tank were to drop and contact the ground, a fuel leak may result. Additionally, in the event of a crash, the fuel tank may not remain secured to the vehicle, possibly causing a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence in an ignition source, can increase the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners and dealers will bolt a bracket reinforcement to the frame, free of charge. The recall began May 2, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U04.

The rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to an undersized pinion spline that can allow relative motion between the nut and companion flange.
- Consequence: If the rear axle pinion nut loosens, the axle can lock up and cause a loss of vehicle control and/or a vehicle crash with little warning.
- Remedy: On November 7, 2013 Chrysler notified owners that dealers would install a pinion nut retainer, free of charge. In July 2015, and under a consent order with NHTSA, the company agreed to offer owners three options for remedying their vehicles: perform the original remedy, offer to repurchase the vehicle at the fair market value plus 10%, or offer an additional incentive offer towards the purchase of a new Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, or Fiat vehicle. Chrysler will notify owners of the new recall options in a letter expected to be mailed on August 31, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N08.
