Common 2021 Porsche Macan problems
The 2021 Porsche Macan, a popular sports utility vehicle, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the issues and their details:
- Infotainment System: Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system, including problems with audio, GPS, phone, rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, and head-up display. These issues may require professional assistance to diagnose and resolve.
- Seat Memory Function: A few owners have reported that the driver's side seat memory function stopped working. This issue may require professional assistance to diagnose and resolve, potentially involving replacement of the seat memory module.
- Rear Seat Belt Anchor Screws: Porsche has issued a recall for certain 2021 Macan, Macan S, Macan GTS, and Macan Turbo vehicles due to the possibility that the screw connection on the shock absorbers of the front and rear axle might not be tightened properly. This issue can cause damage to the braking system, driving instability, and the potential loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the remedy has been performed.
- Low Pressure Fuel Line: Porsche has also issued a recall for certain 2015-2016 Macan S and Macan Turbo vehicles due to a low pressure fuel line in the engine compartment that may leak. This issue can increase the risk of a fire. Owners are advised to not drive their vehicle until the remedy has been performed.
- Brake Booster: Porsche has issued a recall for certain 2015 Macan vehicles due to the possibility that the brake booster may have been damaged during installation. This issue can cause longer stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Fuel System: Porsche has issued a recall for certain 2015-2016 Macan S and Macan Turbo vehicles due to a low pressure fuel line in the engine compartment that may leak. This issue can increase the risk of a fire.
- Air Bags: Porsche has issued a recall for certain 2015 Macan vehicles due to the possibility that the occupant classification sensor may not function properly. This issue can cause the air bags to deploy incorrectly in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Drainage System for Panoramic Roof: There have been reports of water leaking into the car due to issues with the drainage system for the panoramic roof, especially when the car is driven in the rain . This issue can cause electrical problems and potential damage to the interior of the car.
These issues are based on complaints from owners and may not affect all 2021 Porsche Macan vehicles. If you own a 2021 Porsche Macan and are concerned about any of these issues, it is recommended to contact Porsche's customer service or your local Porsche dealer for further assistance.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-06

- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The sunroof exploded outward as I was driving alone on the road. It was a loud bang and sounded like a gun shot. It scared me and I swerved. Luckily, I did not crash, and the sun visor was closed otherwise, the glass would have fell on me and possibly into my face and eyes - very dangerous! The dealer claimed that a rock probably hit it, but there was no rock that hit my sunroof and the glass blew outward - see attached pics. The sunroof was eventually repaired by the Porsche dealer and paid by my insurance with my deductible. No warning at all. It just blew out! Please check if there is a design flaw with the type of glass used which could affect the structural integrity of the glass with temperature changes and pressure created when opening and closing the doors of the vehicle. The Porsche dealer claimed that they were not accountable, yet I did absolutely nothing to cause this to happen. My insurance has gone up and I lost a lot of time dealing with this.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-22
- VIN: WP1AA2A54ML
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: When I first purchased my car, it reversed while the car was on auto hold while I was on a steep hill with a stoplight. There was no way to stop the car as the break didn’t work somehow it worked when I slammed the gas. The dealership said it was a software issue so they updated it. A few months later it was worse. I tried to put the car in park and slam the brakes but it didn’t work. I don’t remember how I got it to move because there was a car behind me and I was panicking. Both times my 5 years old was in the back seat. I’m addition, when I go up my hill there’s a clicking sound on the back right tire side. I called the dealership for that and they said that was normal.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-24
- Fire: 1
- VIN: WP1AG2A51ML

- Summary: My car got stuck and then it caught fire and now is fully demolished
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-10
- Crash: 1
- VIN: WP1AB2A53ML
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: My daughter accidentally tried to reverse in auxiliary mode- she had the radio on and did not realize the engine was not on The car went into reverse and she had no brakes or steering to stop the car Mercedes - BMW- Range Roger - Tesla - we have checked these cars and it isn’t possible to do this scenario in those cars Porsche said the car is fine and if she was 6’3” and weighed 250 it would be difficult but possible to apply enough pressure to the brakes - she weighs 100 pounds so it wasn’t physically possible My husband has a Five year old convertible Mercedes - he tried to recreate this scenario in his car. The first thing that happens is the emergency brake won’t let him reverse . When he released the brake with the engine off and the radio on it did reverse but the brakes worked normally I have friends with Tesla / BMW / and Range Rover all check their cars and they all have safety features preventing the car to go in reverse or it still has normal brakes My daughter had an accident and luckily nobody was hurt This seems dangerous
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-10
- Crash: 1
- VIN: WP1AB2A53ML
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I wrote earlier today but now I found out the Porsche Cayenne and Porsche 911 all have safety feature lacking in the new macan - if u try to reverse with the engine off a message will come on that says to turn on the engine and engage the gear. The macan can reverse with no engine on and then you have no brakes and no power steering . There is a small window of one attempt according to Porsche to use the brakes but you would need to be a strong large man to accomplish the amount of effort required per the dealership - this was not reviewed at the time of purchase .. it seems this safety feature has been around for at least a decade and I am not sure why the macan hasn’t upgraded this important feature or let the customers know in advance We have $5,000 of damage to the car We have $5000 of damage to the house and we will be without a car for 4-8 weeks depending on if parts are here or in Germany

I've owned BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Acura, and now my first Porsche. It has been the best experience I've ever had. I am now a Porsche convert!

Lots of fun and intimacy. I haven't bought the Macan yet, though. I'm still going through the ritual of balancing need vs want. 😎

Porsche has a winner. This SUV is even better than the Cayenne, and more economical too. I recently traded in my brand new MBZ GLB (10K miles) for the new Macan and I couldn't be happier. The back has plenty of room for whatever I need, and I was even able to fit my skis inside, which is a huge plus. The driving experience feels just like driving a Porsche car, which I absolutely love. Overall, I highly recommend the Macan to anyone in the market for a new SUV.

To fully appreciate this car, it's important to understand the technology and the costs associated with its upkeep. That being said, it's an incredibly powerful and enjoyable driving experience. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient option, the thrill of the ride is well worth it.

We were searching for a replacement for our 2014 Audi Q5 3.0, which was sporty, peppy, and handled well. However, we were disappointed to find that Audi did not offer a comparable vehicle in 2020, and the ones they did offer did not perform in a similar manner. After test driving the Macan and Macan S, we quickly concluded that the S was a great replacement, albeit slightly more expensive and with less cargo space. The performance is nothing less than outstanding, as expected from a Porsche. The standard features and functions are excellent, but the few options we chose were quite expensive, which is typical for Porsche. The Premium Package and leather cost over $8000, and the mirror lights that warn of someone in your blind spot when changing lanes cost $700. After driving it for a year, we are extremely pleased with it in all New England driving conditions and are very happy to have it. There are a few minor issues that we wish Porsche would consider addressing, such as the analog instrument markings being hard to see in daylight, but the digital instruments are easy to see even with sunglasses. Additionally, the heated steering wheel on/off button is located in a position on the steering wheel that is hard to identify but easy to actuate unknowingly while driving. With memory seat and memory key, the Audi was smart enough to adjust the seat position automatically when you open the door based on your key. Porsche will do that only if the car is locked and you unlock it upon entry. Why not move the seat for the driver automatically? However, these are minor annoyances that are far outweighed by the performance and handling of this great vehicle.

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned that your downshift paddle shifters gears 5 thru 1 are not slowing down your vehicle in both auto and manual mode. It seems like the engine revs and the RPM's increase, but the transmission doesn't engage to slow the vehicle. Have you tried checking if there are any issues with the transmission? It might be a good idea to have it looked at by a professional. Let me know if you need any further assistance!

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you mentioned your 2017 Macan GTS had a smoother and more refined ride due to its electronic air suspension. Since there was no GTS available at the time, you decided to go for the 2020 S. Living in New York, you've experienced that most roads have a brutally harsh ride quality, but on the highway at high speed, it's a true sports car. It's fast and very well built. Without the GTS suspension, you wouldn't have made the deal or paid much less for the base Macan, not the S.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2020 Porsche Macan that I purchased from Greenwich Porsche on 4/21. Unfortunately, I've been having some trouble with the brakes. They make a loud squealing noise, almost like an 18 wheeler, especially in stop and go traffic. When I reached out to Greenwich and Fairfield Porsche, they told me that this is a common issue with high performance brakes. However, I'm not convinced as none of my friends who own Porsches have ever mentioned this issue, and I haven't read about it in any Porsche writeups. I'm feeling a bit frustrated and concerned for my safety, especially since I paid cash for this vehicle. I'm hoping to find some information or advice on whether this is a common issue with Porsche Macan 2020 brakes or any Porsche brakes in general. Thank you for your help!

The handling was really nice, but unfortunately, the Macan S had some bad turbo lag. Also, it's worth noting that it doesn't come with a flat bottom steering wheel.

Just a friendly heads up, I wanted to share my experience with our Macan. We've had some issues with it and have had to take it to the dealer a few times. If you're considering buying one, I would recommend getting an extended warranty and trading it in before the warranty expires. I noticed some cheap plastic components under the hood which was a bit disappointing. Just wanted to share our experience, but of course, everyone's experience may differ!
