Common 2019 Porsche Macan problems

The Porsche Macan, a compact luxury SUV, has been praised for its performance and prestigious badge. However, like any vehicle, it is not immune to mechanical issues. Here are some common problems reported by owners of the 2019 Porsche Macan:

  • Porsche Communication Management (PCM) System Issues: The PCM system in the Porsche Macan has been known to exhibit random and weird behavior, with the PCM3.1 being the main offender. Many owners have reported issues such as the PCM unit restarting every 2-3 minutes, map not loading, loading in the wrong language, turning on and off randomly, and not displaying any information at all. Low-level diagnostic computers often fail to show events, making it difficult to diagnose the issue. Porsche repair shops with the necessary tools can read the events and diagnose the problem accurately.
  • Passenger Side Mirror Fault: Some Porsche Macan owners have noted that when shifting into reverse gear, the passenger side mirror does not aim downward toward the curb as it is supposed to do. Instead, it turns to aim skyward, providing a wonderful view of passing birds. This issue hinders the driver's ability to see along the passenger side of the car when backing up. Thankfully, Porsche has a software revision that seems to take care of the problem once the appropriate module has been flashed.
  • Back-Up Camera Issues: The Macan back-up camera has sparked a lot of debate, with many drivers complaining that the image shown by the camera is extremely out of focus and actually hinders the driver’s ability to see behind the car when backing up. If you experience this problem with your Macan, there are limited options. First, Porsche upgraded the camera in later versions of the car. If you have an early version with camera problems, only an upgrade will fix the issue. Secondly, there are third-party companies that have cameras to install using the Porsche system. These are a little less expensive and generally solve the problem instantly.
  • PDK Issues - Transmission Failure: A number of Porsche Macan owners have experienced failure of the PDK transmission, which is an automated manual transmission. Most issues occur with the electronic and hydraulically controlled clutch section at the front of the transmission. Physically, the PDK is a ZF transmission unit that has been around for a number of years.
  • Water Kills Everything: A common fault found on the Porsche Macan is related to the panoramic roof and the drains that run around the car for the water. When filling up the washer bottle for the windscreen wipers, water can enter the drains and cause issues. This design flaw seems to affect all Porsche models, not just the Macan .

While the Porsche Macan is generally reliable, these common problems can affect its performance and overall satisfaction for owners. Regular maintenance and addressing these issues promptly can help ensure a smooth and enjoyable driving experience.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-06-05
  • VIN: WP1AB2A5XKL
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: On Sunday June 5, 2022, I had to remove my 2019 Porsche Macan S right rear tire because it had a screw in it. I ahd to do it that day because its leaking had increased and it went totally flat, while I had been waiting many days for my purchased tire and road hazard service. I removed the tire and put in a temporary plug so it could be taken to the servicing dealer, Porsche Silver Spring, MD, on Tuesday June 7, 2022. While I was doing this work, the right rear jack lift point on the car failed and moved sideways towards the inboard of the car, allowing the jack to move under the car. Fortunately I was able to get the tire back on, but the car fell onto the jack and was damaged. The trim pieces and right rear door were damaged. I have pictures of the damage and the failed jack point. I was using the Porsche supplied jack and at all times followed all Porsche directions from the Porsche supplied “Good To Know” app, to the letter. On June 8, 2020 the dealership contacted me and confirmed that the jack point had failed and required replacement. They are also obtained an estimate of the cost to repair the damage to my vehicle caused by the jack point failure. I was very lucky not to have been injured. I believe this is a serious safety problem. I will provide more information upon request, including pictures. I was unable to load the pictures from my cell phone on this report.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-03
  • VIN: WP1AA2A57KL
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Car intermittently reverses in drive while coming out of park (on flat surfaces). Provided videos of incidents to Porsche but they have not been able to identify the issue. This has almost caused an accident. Two people were standing behind my car when I put the car in drive but it reversed. Dealer has investigated (very cursory) on multiple occasions now based on the video evidence but has been unable to replicate the issue (since it’s intermittent) and therefore will not take action. (I can provide videos but there is no option to do so on this upload). Incident date below is most recent incident.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-06-26
  • VIN: WP1AB2A56KL
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: THE SMALL PORTABLE AIR PUMP THAT CAME WITH THE CAR WOULD BLOW THE FUSE TO THE CIGARETTE 12 V OUTLET ON ABOUT EVERY THIRD OR FOURTH USE. THIS WOULD HAPPEN EACH TIME AFTER YOU PUT IN A NEW 20AMP FUSE. I CAN'T TELL WHETHER THIS IS CAUSED BY THE AIR PUMP OR THE CIRCUITRY ON THE CAR. I HAVE GONE THROUGH FIVE FUSES ALREADY.
2020-12-19

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-07-17
  • VIN: WP1AB2A56KL
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: THE ISSUE IS THE SQUEAKING OF THE REAR BRAKES WHEN BACKING UP. THE WOULD HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN. THIS HAPPENS IN COLD OR HOT WEATHER. A FACTORY DEALERSHIP HAD LOOK AT THE ISSUE BUT FOUND NOTHING. THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS ABOUT TWO TO THREE MONTHS OLD. I ALSO HAVE A 2020 AUDI Q7, AND IT HAS ALMOST THE SAME ISSUE WHEN BACKING UP. HOWEVER, IT DOES MORE IN THE MORNING WHETHER THE WEATHER IS HOT OR COLD. WE VISITED AN AUDI DEALERSHIP BUT THEY FOUND NOTHING. A SEPARATE COMPLAINT HAD BEEN FILED UNDER MY NAME AS WELL. BOTH CARS HAVE THE SAME 3.0L V6 ENGINE.
2020-01-17

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

WHEELS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-07-18
  • VIN: WP1AA2A57KL
  • Components: WHEELS

Negative 2019 Porsche Macan car reviews

  1. Ruben Renner 2024-01-21

My Macon Turbo recently had a complete brake job at 3500 miles. However, I have found that many of the features are not very intuitive or commonsense based. For example, the wipers work poorly in mist, the heat blower is unpowered, and an air vent constantly blows air in your face. Additionally, the Bluetooth is of an archaic design and must be re-set to your phone often. The seats also 'forget' to re-set, and the trunk can't hold golf clubs. Furthermore, the lane change design is almost fatally dangerous in the Turbo with 20 Pirellis on, and the in-lane warning works sporadically, among other inexplicable failures. It takes at least 6 tries to get the electronic outside finger-touch door lock to work. However, this car has one and only one feature that does not drive you angry - it can handle speeds up to 135 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike with almost no effort. The transmission is incredible and the only real reason to buy this car is simply because of that transmission and the experience that you get from it in manual. You can't buy it anywhere else. Because if you could, I would. I would recommend avoiding this car for any other reason than going really fast in a very fat hatchback. I have had 10 Porsches over 40 years, and I can say that this car is not up to par.

I'm so glad to hear that you love your car! It sounds like you have a lot of experience with BMW's, but decided to switch things up and go with the Macan. Even though you were considering the S, it seems like you made the right choice by opting for the seats, executive package, stereo, and 20

I hope this message finds you well! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2018 Porsche Macan S. I have driven it for 28,300 miles and have not encountered any issues. As someone who previously owned a BMW X5, I can confidently say that there is no comparison between the two. I highly recommend the Porsche Macan S to anyone in the market for a new car. Thank you for taking the time to read my message!

Hey there! I'm glad to hear that everything is going smoothly for you.

  4. Wilbert Kilback 2024-11-09

I ordered my 2019 base Macan and received it three months later in June 2019. Before making my decision, I test-drove many 2018 Macans with both the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. Coming from a 456-hp Panamera E-Hybrid, I found the 6-cylinder Macans to be underwhelming and not worth the extra expense above the base Macan. Additionally, the base Macan gets much better gas mileage. On long highway trips at speeds of 70 mph with ACC on, I typically get 27-28 mpg, but only about 21-22 mpg in local town driving. I decided to get the base Macan to save money, and especially on keeping options to a minimum. My final price was about $54k. My must-have options were 14-way seats, ACC, blind-spot monitoring, heated front seats, and a nifty dashboard rotating compass with altitude and time display. I wasn't going to spend money on getting a heated steering wheel, so my dealership threw that in for free, knowing they'd likely be selling it in the future after I trade in for another Porsche. Yes, all my selected options come standard on many much-cheaper cars, including our 2021 RAV4 Prime. This 2019 version of the Macan was the first year of the so-called The 2019 Macan and 2018 Panamera have a really nice feature that I love. There's a dial below the infotainment screen that allows you to zoom in or out on the map, which is much better than trying to pinch the screen with your fingers or tap the '+' or '-' buttons while driving. The right-side digital display in the instrument panel is also great, as it shows numerous important items while driving, including tire pressure of each tire in psi, a diagram showing how much power is going to each of the four wheels at any given time, phone contact list that you can select from to call from your steering wheel, trip and mpg info, map showing where you are, oil level, and a configurable screen showing five items that allows you to choose between a bunch of different data, including date/time, outside temperature, 12-volt battery level, oil temp, engine temp, altitude above sea level, compass heading, etc. The myriad of buttons in the center panel (below the screen and surrounding the gear shifter) is comforting to have in this era of putting too many climate controls and driving-mode controls into infotainment screens. This version is much better than the haptic buttons now present in new Porsche models today (2022+). Although I would have preferred having a drive-mode dial on my steering wheel to go back and forth between normal and Sport mode, the button awkwardly placed near the gear shifter is still manageable. Despite the only ca. 250 hp of my engine, acceleration in my base Macan is very good. The car's computers learn that I'm a fast driver and fast accelerator from stop, and it adjusts the mapping accordingly so that I have few complaints about the 4-cylinder not being peppy enough.I have found the PDK automatic or manual gear shifting to be very good but not excellent in both my 2018 Panamera and my 2019 Macan. I appreciate that Porsche offers the option of 18-inch wheels and an all-metal roof, which are areas where other car manufacturers tend to charge a premium for larger wheels and glass roofs. Additionally, I am glad that I was not forced to purchase auto-tinting rear-view mirrors, expensive quad tailpipes, all-leather seats, or other options that can significantly increase the starting MSRP, even in a base Macan. The overall driving stability of the base Macan, as well as all Porsches, is impressive at high speeds and makes me feel safe while driving. The 8-inch ground clearance in my Macan is another feature that I appreciate, which is one of the reasons why I traded in my second Panamera for it. I also like that I can store my own SD card of music in the storage box between the front seats, allowing me to access my own free music whenever I want. The standard LED headlights and tail lights are very attractive and provide excellent visibility at night. While I do wish that Porsche would allow the infrared night-vision camera in the Macan, as it does in the Cayenne and Panamera, my biggest wish of all is that Porsche would create a Macan E-Hybrid, as that would be the perfect vehicle for me. I have taken my Macan on multiple cross-country road trips, including three trips that were more than 6k miles roundtrip, and it has proven to be a fabulous long road-tripper. Additionally, unlike my Panameras, I can take the Macan off paved roads much more easily, which is important to me as I enjoy exploring the unpopulated western US federal lands. There's a lot to like about my base Macan! The only thing I would prefer is a plug-in hybrid for local driving in all-electric mode, especially with the abysmal 21-mpg gas range in-town. However, the 20-gallon gas tank is a huge plus, as it means I don't have to go to gas stations as often. It's also great that there's a spare wheel/tire standard, which I have had to use once. Although, I do wish there was a full-size spare instead of the dinky temp spare that you can only go about 40 mph on and for only a few miles. Overall, I rate my 2019 Macan a 4.5 out of 5 stars. It gets an A+ for value for the money, with the limited options that I chose. It would get a near-perfect 5 out of 5 if it had an E-Hybrid (PHEV) drive train.
