Common 2019 Porsche Macan problems
The Porsche Macan, a compact luxury SUV, has been praised for its performance and prestigious badge. However, like any vehicle, it is not immune to mechanical issues. Here are some common problems reported by owners of the 2019 Porsche Macan:
- Porsche Communication Management (PCM) System Issues: The PCM system in the Porsche Macan has been known to exhibit random and weird behavior, with the PCM3.1 being the main offender. Many owners have reported issues such as the PCM unit restarting every 2-3 minutes, map not loading, loading in the wrong language, turning on and off randomly, and not displaying any information at all. Low-level diagnostic computers often fail to show events, making it difficult to diagnose the issue. Porsche repair shops with the necessary tools can read the events and diagnose the problem accurately.
- Passenger Side Mirror Fault: Some Porsche Macan owners have noted that when shifting into reverse gear, the passenger side mirror does not aim downward toward the curb as it is supposed to do. Instead, it turns to aim skyward, providing a wonderful view of passing birds. This issue hinders the driver's ability to see along the passenger side of the car when backing up. Thankfully, Porsche has a software revision that seems to take care of the problem once the appropriate module has been flashed.
- Back-Up Camera Issues: The Macan back-up camera has sparked a lot of debate, with many drivers complaining that the image shown by the camera is extremely out of focus and actually hinders the driver’s ability to see behind the car when backing up. If you experience this problem with your Macan, there are limited options. First, Porsche upgraded the camera in later versions of the car. If you have an early version with camera problems, only an upgrade will fix the issue. Secondly, there are third-party companies that have cameras to install using the Porsche system. These are a little less expensive and generally solve the problem instantly.
- PDK Issues - Transmission Failure: A number of Porsche Macan owners have experienced failure of the PDK transmission, which is an automated manual transmission. Most issues occur with the electronic and hydraulically controlled clutch section at the front of the transmission. Physically, the PDK is a ZF transmission unit that has been around for a number of years.
- Water Kills Everything: A common fault found on the Porsche Macan is related to the panoramic roof and the drains that run around the car for the water. When filling up the washer bottle for the windscreen wipers, water can enter the drains and cause issues. This design flaw seems to affect all Porsche models, not just the Macan .
While the Porsche Macan is generally reliable, these common problems can affect its performance and overall satisfaction for owners. Regular maintenance and addressing these issues promptly can help ensure a smooth and enjoyable driving experience.

WHEELS,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-15
- Crash: 1
- VIN: WP1AA2A54KL

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-12
- VIN: WP1AB2A56KL
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: Right headlight assembly defective. Turns out MANY 2019 Macans have this same problem. Only 2019 and only the right side. VERY expensive repair, and many would put it off causing a safety issue
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-06-05
- VIN: WP1AB2A5XKL
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: On Sunday June 5, 2022, I had to remove my 2019 Porsche Macan S right rear tire because it had a screw in it. I ahd to do it that day because its leaking had increased and it went totally flat, while I had been waiting many days for my purchased tire and road hazard service. I removed the tire and put in a temporary plug so it could be taken to the servicing dealer, Porsche Silver Spring, MD, on Tuesday June 7, 2022. While I was doing this work, the right rear jack lift point on the car failed and moved sideways towards the inboard of the car, allowing the jack to move under the car. Fortunately I was able to get the tire back on, but the car fell onto the jack and was damaged. The trim pieces and right rear door were damaged. I have pictures of the damage and the failed jack point. I was using the Porsche supplied jack and at all times followed all Porsche directions from the Porsche supplied “Good To Know” app, to the letter. On June 8, 2020 the dealership contacted me and confirmed that the jack point had failed and required replacement. They are also obtained an estimate of the cost to repair the damage to my vehicle caused by the jack point failure. I was very lucky not to have been injured. I believe this is a serious safety problem. I will provide more information upon request, including pictures. I was unable to load the pictures from my cell phone on this report.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-08-03
- VIN: WP1AA2A57KL
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Car intermittently reverses in drive while coming out of park (on flat surfaces). Provided videos of incidents to Porsche but they have not been able to identify the issue. This has almost caused an accident. Two people were standing behind my car when I put the car in drive but it reversed. Dealer has investigated (very cursory) on multiple occasions now based on the video evidence but has been unable to replicate the issue (since it’s intermittent) and therefore will not take action. (I can provide videos but there is no option to do so on this upload). Incident date below is most recent incident.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-06-26
- VIN: WP1AB2A56KL
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: THE SMALL PORTABLE AIR PUMP THAT CAME WITH THE CAR WOULD BLOW THE FUSE TO THE CIGARETTE 12 V OUTLET ON ABOUT EVERY THIRD OR FOURTH USE. THIS WOULD HAPPEN EACH TIME AFTER YOU PUT IN A NEW 20AMP FUSE. I CAN'T TELL WHETHER THIS IS CAUSED BY THE AIR PUMP OR THE CIRCUITRY ON THE CAR. I HAVE GONE THROUGH FIVE FUSES ALREADY.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-07-17
- VIN: WP1AB2A56KL
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THE ISSUE IS THE SQUEAKING OF THE REAR BRAKES WHEN BACKING UP. THE WOULD HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN. THIS HAPPENS IN COLD OR HOT WEATHER. A FACTORY DEALERSHIP HAD LOOK AT THE ISSUE BUT FOUND NOTHING. THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS ABOUT TWO TO THREE MONTHS OLD. I ALSO HAVE A 2020 AUDI Q7, AND IT HAS ALMOST THE SAME ISSUE WHEN BACKING UP. HOWEVER, IT DOES MORE IN THE MORNING WHETHER THE WEATHER IS HOT OR COLD. WE VISITED AN AUDI DEALERSHIP BUT THEY FOUND NOTHING. A SEPARATE COMPLAINT HAD BEEN FILED UNDER MY NAME AS WELL. BOTH CARS HAVE THE SAME 3.0L V6 ENGINE.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-01-16
- VIN: WP1AA2A5XKL
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: THE VEHICLE SPEEDOMETER SHOWS A SPEED THAT EXCEED THE ACTUAL SPEED BY UP TO SIX PERCENT. PORSCHE CLAIMS IT IS WITHIN THE LEGAL LIMIT AND THEY DO NOT NEED TO CORRECT IT.
WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-07-18
- VIN: WP1AA2A57KL
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 PORSCHE MACAN. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH OR MORE, THE VEHICLE VEERED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER AND AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED BECAUSE IT WAS SLIGHTLY OFF; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO CHECKED THE TORQUE ON THE SUSPENSION COMPONENT AND CONFIRMED THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE TIRES. THE CONTACT WENT TO ANOTHER TIRE DEALER TO REPLACE THE TIRES AT HIS EXPENSE AND TEST THE OLD TIRES FOR DEFECTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70.

I've owned a variety of trucks and performance SUVs in the past, including an Explorer Sport, Edge ST, Jeep SRT, and an X5 45i. However, this Porsche surpasses them all. It has everything I could want and need, from AWD for Northern Winters to heated and cooled seats, premium soft and smooth leather, Apple CarPlay, Bose Sound, sport exhaust, spider wheels, and 18-way power and memory seats. This is one very well-equipped Porsche, and I absolutely love it. Unlike other manufacturers who modify base versions to create performance vehicles, Porsche simply builds Porsches. The car handles every bit as well as my buddy's 911 (he's test driven it and verified), and it's both quiet and comfortable. Even my girlfriend is in love with it and prefers to ride in it over her S5. This machine is incredibly capable, and I can drive it at 130mph with ease. I got mine CPO, which I would definitely recommend because the price can get very steep. However, the CPO warranty is amazing! It's 2 years and unlimited miles on top of whatever warranty is left. I've had zero issues, and it's as reliable as any Lexus on the road. I'm so happy I made this cool decision!

This car is incredibly quiet, has excellent acceleration, and handles like a dream - just like my Cayman (which I also own). It replaced my 2017 Mercedes GL250, which I regret purchasing. The front seat comfort is exceptional, even for my 6’7” neighbor who went for a test drive (although you wouldn't want to be sitting in the rear seat behind him). Update 9-30-18: I've now driven over 13,000 miles in the Macan, which I primarily use for business, and I haven't had any issues with the car whatsoever. Even though it's the base model, the acceleration on the highway for passing is still impressive. The throttle response and grip from a standing start are excellent, thanks in part to the all-wheel drive. In contrast, the Mercedes GLA 250 was downright annoying; it required careful pressure on the throttle to avoid spinning the front tires, and once in motion, the throttle steer was terrible. Porsche's exceptional engineering eliminates these annoying factors. In July of this year, we took one of our grandkids with us on a road trip to the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina for a wedding. The car had plenty of room, even with the plug-in refrigerator in the back. Handling on the mountain roads, with a somewhat heavier load than normal, was superb. The 12-hour drive was very comfortable. We both love the seats and interior design. The lane change assist eliminates the blind spot and makes driving much safer and easier. The lane keep assist is something we both could live without, but when active, it's a rather subtle sound, so we've just learned to keep it on. I've had a few clients mention that “business must be good” when I arrive in the Porsche. My response is usually “don’t let the badge fool you, it’s cheaper than some pick-up trucks.” Service: The 10k mile service at Champion Porsche is a pleasure and a striking difference from the Pompano Beach Mercedes dealer across the street, which is terrible (even the service manager doesn’t return calls). One thing that we noticed about the factory roof racks is that they add considerable wind noise, but they are easy to install and remove. We have put over 25,000 miles on the car in 13 months and we still love the handling and comfort. In fact, we even won first place in the men's and ladies stock class at a Porsche 48 hours club race in Sebring. The Macan surprised us with its exceptional handling and we even drove faster than some 911's and Caymans! The 20K mile service cost about $1200.00, which included all of the factory recommended service, including windshield wipers. The tire wear is very good with no unusual wear. However, we did notice that the rear window and lift gate seem to collect more dust and dirt than other cars. The lift gate can sometimes be finicky when closing with the push buttons, so we learned the hard way to watch and make sure it closes all the way before driving away. We now have about 44,650 miles on the Macan and it is still performing flawlessly. We did have to install two new rear tires due to nails and we are on the third windscreen. One thing that needs to be improved is the gas fill drain, as it gets clogged easily and will retain water. It's very easy to check and clean, however. Just wanted to give you a quick update on our Macan - it now has 69k miles on the clock and we are still very impressed with it! The comfort and sporty feel on the road and curves is outstanding, and we've had no issues with reliability. We drove the S model but found the 2.0 liter base model to be very fast and economical. For reference, we also own a 718 GT4 so we have a very fast car to compare it to. The reviews tend to push the S model as you'd expect, but if you're not sure, I suggest you drive both. Don't underestimate the base model Macan! We love it so much that we've even built our own to our spec and will have the new 2022 base model arrive in January 2022.

I'm so glad to hear that you love your car! It sounds like you have a lot of experience with BMW's, but decided to switch things up and go with the Macan. Even though you were considering the S, it seems like you made the right choice by opting for the seats, executive package, stereo, and 20

I hope this message finds you well! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2018 Porsche Macan S. I have driven it for 28,300 miles and have not encountered any issues. As someone who previously owned a BMW X5, I can confidently say that there is no comparison between the two. I highly recommend the Porsche Macan S to anyone in the market for a new car. Thank you for taking the time to read my message!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with the car. Overall, it's a good car and we purchased it in Florida where the roads are smooth. The ride was smooth and enjoyable. However, when we returned to Wisconsin, where the roads are rough, we noticed that the ride was quite noisy and rough. The suspension transferred the road imperfections sharply, which made the ride less comfortable. Although it's not as forgiving as some other cars, it has a sporty feel to it. We also own a 2018 BMW X3, which has a much smoother ride. While I'm not completely dissatisfied with the Mecan S, I prefer to drive the Bimmer 10 out of 10 times. Thank you for listening to my experience!

My Macon Turbo recently had a complete brake job at 3500 miles. However, I have found that many of the features are not very intuitive or commonsense based. For example, the wipers work poorly in mist, the heat blower is unpowered, and an air vent constantly blows air in your face. Additionally, the Bluetooth is of an archaic design and must be re-set to your phone often. The seats also 'forget' to re-set, and the trunk can't hold golf clubs. Furthermore, the lane change design is almost fatally dangerous in the Turbo with 20 Pirellis on, and the in-lane warning works sporadically, among other inexplicable failures. It takes at least 6 tries to get the electronic outside finger-touch door lock to work. However, this car has one and only one feature that does not drive you angry - it can handle speeds up to 135 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike with almost no effort. The transmission is incredible and the only real reason to buy this car is simply because of that transmission and the experience that you get from it in manual. You can't buy it anywhere else. Because if you could, I would. I would recommend avoiding this car for any other reason than going really fast in a very fat hatchback. I have had 10 Porsches over 40 years, and I can say that this car is not up to par.
