Pontiac Grand am 1999 problems
The Pontiac Grand Am is a car model that was produced by Pontiac in various years between 1973 and 2005. Produced as a RWD mid-size car on the LeMans GM A platform in its first two generations, the Grand Am name was reused for a FWD compact car for its last three generations.
The platform actually began development intended to be the next generation GTO, but the muscle car era was drawing to a close. So, Pontiac decided to make this model America's answer to European luxury|sports sedans. The Grand Am (GA) name was derived from two other Pontiacs; "Grand" signifying Grand Prix luxury, and "Am" for Trans Am performance.
These first generation GAs had some innovative features, including a deformable urethane nose (an evolution of the Endura bumper pioneered on the 1968 GTO), and was one of only three GM cars (Olds Cutlass Salon, Chevy Monte Carlo S) to debut radial-ply tires (RTS - Radial Tuned Suspension) as standard equipment. The intermediate sized Grand Am was canceled in 1980 when it was replaced by the Pontiac 6000.
A compact-sized Grand Am, based on the GM N-platform, was released in 1985, replacing the Pontiac Phoenix. It became Pontiac's best selling car and was later replaced by the Pontiac G6, so named as it was intended to be the 6th generation of the Grand Am.
All 1973–1975 Grand Ams were built in Pontiac, Michigan at Pontiac's main assembly plant. The 1978-1980 Grand Ams were built in Pontiac, Michigan at Pontiac's main assembly plant and in Atlanta, Georgia at GMAD Lakewood. All Grand Ams between 1985 and 2005 were built in Lansing, Michigan at the Lansing Car Assembly.

- Summary: Our braking system on this car failed us, and is probably crushed by now at no fault of my own. My safety was at–risk when the brakes lost pressure and if it wasn’t for our seatbelts, I could’ve been thrown through the windshield. I hereby declare that [XXX] deliberately caused our accident and lied about being blinded. [XXX] lost her son—[XXX]—and was jealous of my opportunity to do what he couldn’t. Her other son—[XXX]—choose not to attend college and contraband drugs among other things. [XXX] and his mother [XXX] were also jealous of me for having an opportunity that [XXX] chose not to take. They blame me for Chastity [XXX] & [XXX] turning their parental rights over to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. How their oldest daughter being raped by her paternal grandmother’s husband has to do me is absurd and childish in my opinion. Murray Police Department was called on October 23, 2014 at 7:23 am in reference to 2 vehicle collisions to inspected and verified by law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. [XXX] and his sister [XXX] their colleagues at Seacrest Rehabilitation—Healthcare Center and [XXX] or [XXX] Consolidated Schools with the latter allegations. Ma and I later went to Dr. [XXX] chiropractic center for evaluation, he can verify her back or knee problems as they related to this incident. - Summary: The gas gauge will show full then without warning quickly drop to “E” and the low fuel indicator will ding and the light will come on then just as quickly as it started it will go back to full or 2/3rds the slow creep back to the full position. (The tank was not full) While driving all the electrical components start going wild, everything goes on and off quickly. The accelerator will rev(while foot is on or off accelerator) and drop over and over (as if there were bad gas in it) then go back to normal. This happens while I’m on the road and is a massive hazard. I’m so afraid this will cause an accident that leads to loss of life.

THE DOUGLAS TIRE I PURCHASED IN 10/13 HAS NOW DEVELOPED A NOTICEABLE BULGE ON THE SIDE WALL UNDERNEATH THE TIRE VALVE STEM AREA. HOWEVER, WALMART REFUSES TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVELY MANUFACTURED TIRE EVENTHOUGH I EXPLAINED THAT IF I HAD NOT NOTICED THE BULGE, THE TIRE COULD OF BLOWN ON THE FWY AND COST ME MY LIFE. BUT THE EMPLOYEE SAID, SORRY.. I ASKED THE EMPLOYEE HOW OLD WAS THE TIRE AT THE TIME I PURCHASED IT. BUT HE COULD SAY. AT THE TIME OF INSTALLATION, THE WALMART MECHANIC / EXPERT WOULD OF NOTICED THE BULGE WHICH WAS MINOR AT THE TIME, AS I HAD NOTICED BUT THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT SINCE I AM NOT AN EXPERT. AS THIS WAS THE ONLY TIRE SIZE MY WALMART STORE HAD IN STOCK FOR MY CAR, I PURCHASED IT WITHOUT CONSIDERATION OF BRAND. IN OTHER WORDS, I WOULD OF BOUGHT A DIFFERENT BRAND TIRE IF THE SHELVES HAD IN MY SIZE. FURTHER, I BELIEVE WALMART IS AWARE OF ITS DEFECTIVE TIRE'S WHICH I DISCOVERED TODAY THAT THEY ARE MADE IN CHINA. SUPPOSEDLY, DOUGLAS TIRE IS A SUBSIDIARY OF GOODYEAR. SO I HAVE EMAILED THEM WITH MY CONCERN AND REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE WALMART SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR KNOWINGLY SELLING A POORLY MANUFACTURED PRODUCT FOR AUTOMOBILES. Pontiac Grand am 1999 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the Pontiac Grand am 1999.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 5,877,718 model year 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2005 Malibu Classic, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 9, 2014. GM's number for this recall is 14350.

What a great car! It's amazing how it turns heads constantly. Even after 45,000+ miles, it has only needed basic maintenance and the rotors replaced once. Although the fuel economy could be better, it's hard not to speed in this car, so it's understandable. On average, I get anywhere from 20-25mpg. I was a bit hesitant to buy this car in 99 because it was the first year for the redesign, but it has never let me down! Kudos to GM for creating such an amazing car!

This has been an excellent car for you. It's great to hear that the only times it's been in to be repaired were after it was hit in accidents. You mentioned that regular maintenance is easy and has carried this car a long way, which is fantastic!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I've had this car for over 3 years now and it's been running smoothly. Of course, I take great care of it too.

I love this car! It's so much fun to drive and feels like you're in a race car or cockpit. It looks great too, and I constantly have people telling me how cool it is. Plus, I've had no problems with it whatsoever, even with 78000 miles on it!

What a great first car! It was originally my sister's, but when she upgraded to a newer Grand Am, she kindly passed it on to me. It's so much fun to drive, especially with the V6 engine, but there have been a few mechanical issues. Over time, we've had to replace the passenger window motor, the passenger window itself, the front brakes, a couple of sensors, and the engine belt needs replacing. We also had to replace the driver's brake light and make a few other repairs here and there. Despite these issues, I still love driving this car!

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it with 30000 miles and unfortunately, after only 4000 miles, the ignition harness blew out and all my gauges failed. It was a bit of a hassle to drop off my car at Pontiac since their lines were quite long. My biggest concern was the resale value. I paid 13000 for it in 2001, but by 2002 it was only worth 8000. :(

The car has experienced several electronic problems, including temporary power window control failure, a faulty vertical seat adjuster, and erratic digital mileage and radio displays. Additionally, the car has an uncomfortable seating arrangement, which is particularly problematic for my five-year-old son, whose knees hit the back of the driver's seat. The side mirror also came off when touched, and there have been issues with the car's starter and acceleration. Furthermore, the car's seal above the front windows causes excessive noise when driving at speeds of 60 mph or higher. Despite these issues, I am confident in my assessment of the car's performance.

I purchased this car for my daughter, but unfortunately we have had to do three major repairs that cost over $1,000 each. Additionally, we have been unable to pass emissions and the plastic inside the car is cheap and cracks easily. The headlights are always foggy, no matter what we do. We even purchased an extra two-year warranty, but it was not worth the paper it was written on. I have noticed many of these cars on the road, usually in red, so it must have been a popular color that year. While I believe we may have gotten a lemon, I will take this as a learning experience and do more research before purchasing our next car. It feels like owning this car is like having a piggy bank that you just keep putting money into without ever getting anything back. Unfortunately, we still have two more years to pay on it. Thank you for listening to my experience.

I've been driving my Grand AM since 2007. It was given to me by my parents who bought it in 1999 with only 12,000 miles on it. The car has always received regularly scheduled maintenance and now has almost 130,000 miles on it. I did have to overhaul the engine at around 120,000 miles due to a spun #2 rod bearing, which is a fairly common issue with the 2.4L engine's oil supply. However, the car is relatively easy to work on when it comes to major repairs. Unfortunately, the interior of this car was the absolute worst of any car I've ever owned. It started falling apart when the car was only a few years old, with power windows, central locking, and climate control switches all breaking. The vinyl on the door panels started peeling off, the dash warped, and the seat padding began to break down. Despite these issues, I still have a soft spot for my Grand AM.
