Pontiac G6 problems
The Pontiac G6 is a mid-size car that was produced by General Motors under the Pontiac brand. It was introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year to replace the Grand Am.
The G6 shared the GM Epsilon platform with the Chevrolet Malibu, Saab 9-3 and other General Motors vehicles. Features included a remote starting system (standard on GT, optional on base model), traction control/ABS, electronic stability control, automatic headlights as well as a panoramic sunroof option. A retractable hardtop convertible was offered for model years 2006-2009. Production ended in 2010 with the discontinuation of the Pontiac line.
With the G6, Pontiac introduced a two-digit naming convention, with the Pontiac G8 a class above the G6 and the Pontiac G5 a class below. In the case of the G6, the nameplate designated it as the sixth generation of its predecessor, the Pontiac Grand Am.

Common Pontiac G6 problems
The Pontiac G6 is a popular car model known for its sleek design and reliable performance. However, like any other vehicle, the G6 has its share of common problems that car owners have reported over the years. Here are some of the most common issues with the Pontiac G6 based on complaints from owners:
- Faulty Power Steering: Some 2005 Pontiac G6 units have problems with their power steering, and this issue is also present in the 2006 and 2007 model years. Many of the affected owners encountered this problem at around 70,000 miles, but 2007 model year owners noticed this issue at around 100,000 miles. The problem is often due to a faulty power steering pump or a leak in the power steering system.
- Unresponsive Door Locks: Another common problem with the Pontiac G6 is unresponsive power locks. This issue affects various parts of the car's locking system, including the door locks and the trunk release. Owners have reported that the locks may stop working altogether or may only work intermittently.
- Unusual Noises: Some G6 owners have reported unusual noises coming from their cars, including grinding noises when turning, whining noises from the engine, and rattling noises from the dashboard. These noises can be caused by various factors, including worn-out brake pads, a damaged serpentine belt, or loose interior panels.
- Catalytic Converter Issues: Some G6 models have issues with their catalytic converters, which can cause the car to run poorly or fail emissions tests. This issue is often caused by a faulty oxygen sensor or a clogged catalytic converter.
In conclusion, while the Pontiac G6 is a reliable and popular car model, it is not without its share of common problems. Owners have reported issues with faulty lighting, faulty power steering, unresponsive door locks, unusual noises, and catalytic converter problems. If you are considering purchasing a Pontiac G6, it is essential to be aware of these common issues and to have any potential problems inspected and addressed by a qualified mechanic.

A few nights ago driving home from the movies with my kids out of nowhere my headlights go out so I had to use my fog lights to make it home. I can't understand how isn't this a safety issue and why hasn't anyone done anything about it or why isn't there a recall. What is the wait? Are we waiting for a tragedy to occur to then do something?? This is like the 3 or 4th time that it has happened. Where is the urgency on this matter?? Or will I have to make a petition with other G6 owners that also have had this issue?? Some feedback would be nice on what to do or do I have to continue to spend $$$ with 0 results. Would appreciate some response and some results.

This is a really great car for school, work, or just cruising around. It's super fun to drive and has amazing fuel economy compared to my old 85 S-10 with a V6 2.8L engine, which was a mess. This car has been a lifesaver and it's just awesome!

Since some people who are not familiar with cars may feel hesitant to purchase a Pontiac, I would like to share my positive experience with this car. I purchased mine with 64k miles and have put 3k more on it. I absolutely love this car! While it may not be the most fuel-efficient due to its gearing, I installed an intake which has helped. The handling is fantastic - firm yet comfortable. The engine is amazing, although I am not a fan of the electronic throttle. Personally, I prefer the traditional throttle cable. However, everything else works great and this car is simply stunning.

I've owned my G6 for almost two years now and I still absolutely love it! The car has fantastic performance, great acceleration, and handles curves extremely well. On the highway, I get around 26 mpg. If you use a product called STP gas treatment at every other fill up, you can increase your mpg. I can't imagine having any other car. The only thing I would change is the cloth seats. I would prefer leather seats as they are much more comfortable and durable, but these clean up pretty easily using Blue Coral. Happy driving!

In October 2009, I ordered a new G6 from my local dealer. After waiting for about a month, I finally received it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it came with black/tan heated leather, power moonroof, spoiler, 17' polished 5 spoke rims, 3.5L V6, AM/FM/XM/CD/AUX radio, Monsoon speaker system, and power seat. The exterior of the car is beautiful and the interior is very nice too. I was amazed by how well the car handled when I took it home. The suspension is taught yet soft at the same time and the steering feels like a German sports sedan. I have driven it for 23K miles and it has given me no problems at all. I get it professionally detailed every 3 months and I also detail it myself in between. I absolutely love it!

I recently leased a car for my daughter, but unfortunately, I discovered that it had a water leak and a mildew smell. Despite visiting the dealer four times, the issue still persists. As someone who has leased 12 GM cars in the last 10 years, I am feeling frustrated and considering other options. I hope that the service reps can address this issue soon. Has anyone else experienced this problem? The car has been to the dealership four times, and we have had new seats, carpet, and six deionization treatments. Perhaps GM and Febreeze could collaborate on a commercial to showcase their commitment to customer satisfaction. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

When we purchased the car, we were initially hesitant to buy another Pontiac due to our previous experience with a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am. However, we found a car with only 20k miles on it and decided to give it a chance. While we have experienced some issues with the car, such as the transmission, steering column, CD player, keyless entry, power steering, and brakes, we still find it enjoyable to drive. It's important to note that these issues are not unique to this model and make, and we understand that all cars can have their share of problems. Overall, we are satisfied with our purchase and look forward to many more enjoyable drives in the future.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to bring to your attention that I've noticed an issue with my shifter. Specifically, it doesn't seem to highlight when in any position, and there's no indicator in the dash to inform me what gear I'm in. I was wondering if you or anyone else has experienced this issue with their G6's? Thank you for your time and help!

I had a less than ideal experience with this car and would not recommend it to others. After purchasing it in March of 2010 with 30k miles on it, I had to replace the tires, brakes, rotors, water pump, tranny cooler lines, intermediate steering shaft, electric steering module, and some oil cooler lines within a few months. Recently, I had to have all of my head gaskets machined and replaced due to oil leaks. Fortunately, I had an extended warranty that covered the cost of the repairs, which would have otherwise been close to $6,000. Despite my experience, I appreciate the opportunity to share my story and hope that others can make informed decisions when purchasing a car.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with you regarding a recall letter I received for the transmission of my car back in December 2012. I took my car to the dealership to have the recalled part repaired in March of 2012. Unfortunately, two days after the repair, I started experiencing problems with my steering and my power steering went out a week later. After doing some research online, I found out that this is a common issue for this model. I decided to call Pontiac and they opened a case for this issue. They advised me to take my car to my local dealer and if they confirmed that it was not due to wear and tear or lack of maintenance, then they would assist with reimbursement. I took my car to the dealer and they advised me that the torque sensor was bad. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
