2007 Pontiac G5 problems
The Chevrolet Cobalt is a compact car introduced by Chevrolet in 2004 for the 2005 model year. The Cobalt replaced both the Cavalier and the Toyota-based Geo/Chevrolet Prizm as Chevrolet's compact car. The Cobalt was available as both a coupe and sedan, as well as a sport compact version dubbed the Cobalt SS. Like the Chevrolet HHR and the Saturn ION, it was based on the GM Delta platform.
A Pontiac version was sold in the United States and Mexico under the G5 name for 2007–2009. It was sold as the Pontiac G4 in Mexico for 2005–2006 and as the Pontiac G5 in Canada for its entire run (where it was briefly known as the Pontiac Pursuit and later Pontiac G5 Pursuit). The G5 replaced the Cavalier-related Pontiac Sunfire. While the Cobalt was available as a 2-door coupe and a 4-door sedan in all markets it was offered in, the G5 was only available as a coupé in the United States while a sedan version was sold alongside the coupé in Canada and Mexico.
As with their predecessors, all Cobalts and its Pontiac equivalents were manufactured at GM's plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico and Lordstown, Ohio. The United States Environmental Protection Agency classified the Cobalt as a subcompact car.

2007 Pontiac G5 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2007 Pontiac G5.
- Manufacturer: UCI-FRAM Group
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
- Summary: UCI-FRAM Group is recalling certain LS1328 ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1328, Duralast LS1328, Airtex 1S6097, and Carquest 53-27479, and LS1497 Ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1497, Duralast LS1497, Airtex 1S10961, and Carquest 53-27967, for use on various General Motors model and model year vehicles during repair and replacement of the original ignition switch. The weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the affected ignition switches to move out of the run position, turning off the engine and disabling the air bags.
- Consequence: If the ignition switch moves from the run position to accessory, the car would stall and the air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the occupants.
- Remedy: UCI-FRAM Group has notified its purchasers to quarantine and return all inventory. Any switches already installed in vehicles will be replaced by GM dealers as part of NHTSA recall 14V-047, free of charge. UCI-Fram's purchasers should contact UCI-FRAM Group at 1-800-890-2075. GM vehicle owners requiring additional information on that recall campaign should contact GM at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac) or 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn).
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5, 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "Off" position.
- Consequence: If the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "off" position, the vehicle could roll away: (a) for an automatic transmission, if the transmission is not in the "Park" position; or (b) for a manual transmission, if the parking brake is not engaged and the transmission is not in the "Reverse" position. This potential for rollaway increases the risk for a crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries.
- Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and for vehicles that were built with the defective ignition cylinder and have not previously had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will replace the ignition cylinder and cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. For vehicles that were built with the redesigned ignition cylinder or had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac owners at 1-800-762-2737, and Saturn owners at 1-800-553-6000. General Motors' number for this recall is 14113 for the ignition lock cylinder and key replacement, and 14133 for only key replacements. Note: Until a vehicle has been remedied, owners and operators are advised that when exiting, to be sure that the vehicle is in "Park," or in the case of a manual transmission, that the vehicle is in the "Reverse" position and the parking brake is engaged.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on February 10, 2014 that they are recalling 619,122 model year 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, and 2007 Pontiac G5 vehicles. On February 25, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 748,024 model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR and Pontiac Solstice vehicles and 2003-2007 Saturn Ion vehicles and 2007 Saturn Sky vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine. On March 27, 2014, GM notified the agency that the defective ignition switches may have been used as service replacement parts on other vehicles, and as a result GM will be recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Sky, and Pontiac G5 and Solstice, and 2008-2011 Chevrolet HHR vehicles. The part numbers for the service parts are 10392423 (a/k/a ACDelco D1461F), 10392737, 15857948, 15854953, 15896640, and 25846762. This expansion represents an additional 823,788 vehicles.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. An interim notification was issued to owners of 2007 and earlier models on March 10, 2014, informing them of the safety defect. Owners of 2008 and later vehicles will be mailed an interim letter on April 21, 2014. All affected owners will receive another letter once parts are available. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac at 1-800-762-2737 or Saturn at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for the initial recall is 13454 and 14063 for the expansion. GMs recall number for the vehicles that may have received the replacement parts is 14092. Note: Until the recall repairs have been performed, it is very important that customers remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the vehicle key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. Always wear your seatbelt.

The G5 GT is my first brand new car purchase and I couldn't be happier with my choice! It's the perfect car for me - sporty, great gas mileage (I average 21 mpg every day to and from work, even though I work 35 to 40 miles from home), and it has a powerful motor that I never expected. It's fast and sharp, and I love the looks I get when I pull in somewhere. People have even mistaken it for a GTO at first glance, which is pretty cool! The interior design is also awesome. I feel very lucky to have this car and I want to thank Pontiac for making such a great vehicle!
-
The vehicle runs really well and handles bumps in the road with ease. It also takes turns smoothly and I haven't encountered any issues so far. Additionally, the front seats offer ample legroom for those with longer legs.
-
I bought a 07 G5 for my son when he was 17, to use for school and college. The car has 53,000 miles on it. The only issue we've had so far was a small gas leak at the top of the gas tank, but GM (goodwill policy) replaced it under warranty. Overall, the car has been very reliable and safe. I'm a loyal GM customer and will continue to buy their vehicles.
-
This is my 4th Pontiac purchase and the smallest one yet - but not the slowest! The GT trim definitely outguns and is better handling than my '01 Grand Am SE, which was a 4-cyl. as well. Though the Monsoon system may seem a little complicated at first, the steering controls make it much simpler! And the acceleration in such a slight car is awesome!
-
I've owned my G5 Coupe SE for two years now and it's been a great car overall. The only issue I've had was a small wire chaffing for my a/c, but other than that, no problems. The only thing I wish could be improved are the seats, as they could be more comfortable on long trips. Additionally, the trunk opening could be a bit bigger. But all in all, I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend this car to others.

I have owned my g5 gt for 2 years now and unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with it. Despite this, I still love my little bumble bee! It has some great features and is both fast and cute. However, I have had to replace the blown amp, a/c, and radio for AUX jack, and recently experienced power steering failure while driving on the highway, as well as a gas leak with noise coming from the front driver side and starter-related issues. It's disappointing that all of this has happened, especially since I don't drive far or on tough roads. I guess I just have bad luck. Fortunately, I have a 10-year warranty, which has been a lifesaver. Good luck to anyone else experiencing similar issues!

Hey there! Thank you for considering this car. I just wanted to share my personal experience with it. I did have some issues with the steering column, steering shaft, right control arm bushing, a link in right stabilizer, weather stripping due to wind noise, and part of the left fender had to be glued on to the car because it wasn't fit properly...all before 18000 miles. I also had to replace the brakes (rotors and pads), and was told by the guy at the dealership that I needed new tires. However, I want to make sure you have all the information you need to make an informed decision. Let me know if you have any questions!

The G5 has been a major disappointment compared to our previous Pontiac Sunfire. Despite being under warranty, the dealership has failed to address the persistent issues we've had with the keys, which have caused problems with opening the doors, trunk, and starting the car. The keys have worn out after just one year of driving, causing significant inconvenience. Additionally, the noise while driving is unbearable. These issues need to be addressed immediately to ensure a satisfactory driving experience.

The issues I have experienced with my G5 are numerous and frustrating. Despite multiple attempts to fix the problems, including strut boots, linkage kits, brake issues, heater blower motor replacements, door striker replacements, manual transmission shifter problems, control arm bushing issues, and electric motor coil troubles, the car still has persistent issues. Even the radio and signal lights have a mind of their own. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend the G5 or the G6. In contrast, my father's 2000 Mazda Protege has been trouble-free since he bought it.

The Cobalt SS is a much better performer and is available at a similar price point. While the G5 is a decent all-around car with a good look, it falls short in terms of performance for its selling price.
