The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.

Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.

Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.

The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 2021 Ford F-450 sd problems

The 2021 Ford F-450 SD has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is related to the electrical system. In one case, a 2021 Ford F-450 SD owner reported that while driving at various speeds, the driver's seat moved backwards, making it impossible for the driver to reach the brake and accelerator pedals. Additionally, the radio turned on spontaneously, the front windshield fogged up, and there were no warning lights illuminated. The dealership was unable to duplicate the failure, and the manufacturer did not provide further assistance. This issue occurred at 9,900 miles.

Another electrical problem reported is related to the fuel injector controls, which went out at less than 15,000 miles. After this, the engine always ran hot, eventually causing it to burn up at less than 60,000 miles. A new engine was installed, but the turbo is now not operating correctly, causing the truck to only pull a load at 50 mph. This series of faults resulted in the owner missing about two months of work while waiting for repairs.

Ford F-450 owners have reported a total of 25 problems related to the electrical system, under the electrical system category. The most recently reported issues are listed in the search results.

In addition to electrical issues, the 2021 Ford F-450 SD has also been reported to have problems with the power train, specifically the driveshaft. A radial damper inside the driveshaft may move out of position over time, causing a driveshaft imbalance and potentially leading to a fracture. This issue affects 2017-2018 Ford F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, and F-450 4x4 vehicles.

Lastly, there is a recall affecting certain 2021 Ford F-450 SD vehicles. The power train: axle hubs may have a manufacturing defect that could cause the axle shaft to fracture, potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control. This recall was announced on May 24, 2021, and affected vehicles may need to have the axle shaft replaced.
