2009 Pontiac G3 problems
The Chevrolet Aveo (T200) (/əˈveɪ.oʊ/ ə-VAY-oh) is the first generation of the Chevrolet Aveo, a subcompact automobile nameplate from the Chevrolet division of the American manufacturer General Motors. The T200 was launched in 2002, developed by the initially-independent South Korean manufacturer Daewoo, later GM Korea. It was originally marketed as the Daewoo Kalos and prominently marketed with the Chevrolet brand as the Aveo. The model received the T200 internal codes during the car's development. The T250 code was designated for the model's major facelift.
Designed, engineered and originally marketed by GM Daewoo, the Aveo superseded the Daewoo Lanos and was marketed worldwide in 120 countries under seven brands (Chevrolet, Daewoo, Holden, Pontiac, Ravon, Suzuki and ZAZ).
Nameplate
In its home market of South Korea, the T200 was known as Daewoo Kalos, before being rebranded Daewoo Gentra.
In several Asian, Australasian, and European export markets, the "Daewoo Kalos" name was also used, only to be later renamed "Chevrolet Aveo" or Holden Barina in the case of Australasia. In Indonesia this generation sold under 3 nameplates, "Chevrolet Aveo" for hatchback, Chevrolet Kalos for sedan and sedan for taxi fleet as "Chevrolet Lova".
Other names used include ZAZ Vida in Ukraine, Ravon Nexia in Russia, Chevrolet Nexia in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, Chevrolet Lova in China and Pontiac G3 in the United States, selling alongside the "Chevrolet Aveo" version. In Canada, the name Pontiac Wave was originally used, followed by Pontiac G3 Wave, before adopting the "Pontiac G3" name used in the United States. Since 2003, Suzuki has also sold a version in Canada as the Suzuki Swift+ alongside the Chevrolet and Pontiac badged versions. T200's successor, the T300 was released in 2011. The Swift+ was dropped after the 2011 model year due to poor sales along with the entire Suzuki brand, although Suzuki Canada lists 2010 as the final model year Swift+. In addition, the release of the Pontiac Wave5 is also very relevant to determine the difference of production years and production model names.

Common 2009 Pontiac G3 problems
The 2009 Pontiac G3, a compact car manufactured by General Motors, has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues range from engine performance to interior and exterior features.
- Fuel Economy: Despite its small size, the 2009 Pontiac G3's fuel economy has been criticized by some owners. While it is designed to be a fuel-efficient vehicle, some owners have reported that they have not achieved the expected mileage.
- Electric Windows: The manual windows in the 2009 Pontiac G3 have been a point of contention for some owners. Given the car's compact size, many expected electric windows to be a standard feature.
- Engine Performance: The engine of the 2009 Pontiac G3 has been the subject of several complaints. Some owners have reported issues with the engine stalling during driving, which can be a significant safety concern.
- Susceptibility to Damage: The exterior of the 2009 Pontiac G3 has been reported to be susceptible to damage, particularly from small branches falling from trees. The metal used in the car's construction is thin, making it more prone to dents and other forms of damage.
- Brake System: A recall was issued for the 2009 Pontiac G3 due to potential issues with the brake system. The recall notice indicates that the brake fluid used in these vehicles may not protect against corrosion of the valves inside the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module. This could lead to longer brake pedal travel or reduced brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Reliability: According to a report by PontiacProblems.com, the 2009 Pontiac G3 ranks 6th in reliability out of 17 Pontiac models. The report indicates that most complaints are about the engine, followed by electrical, exterior, interior, and fuel system issues.
In conclusion, while the 2009 Pontiac G3 has its merits, including being comfortable, roomy, stylish, and having great fuel economy, it has also been reported to have several common problems. These issues range from engine noise and fuel economy to electric windows, engine performance, susceptibility to damage, brake system, and reliability. Potential buyers and current owners should be aware of these issues and consider them when making decisions about purchasing or maintaining this vehicle.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-01-05
- VIN: JKAEXMJ119D
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE STARTED OVERHEATING AND SMOKING A LOT. I PULLED OVER AND THERE WAS SLUSHY FLUID FLOWING FROM THE CAR AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. I TOWED IT TO A NEARBY AUTO REPAIR SERVICE PROFESSIONAL FOR TESTING, AND THE TEST SHOWED THAT THE COOLANT WAS CONTAMINATED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD COOLANT FLUID IN IT. ACCORDING TO THEM, THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION OF THE COOLANT HOSE THAT ALLOWED THE COOLANT TO MIX WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID AND AS A RESULT THE CAR DOES NOT DRIVE ANYMORE. THIS IS A VERY RARE SITUATION TO SEE IN A CAR WITH THIS FEW MILES, FIVE YEARS OLD AND MAINTAINED WELL. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH CONFIRMED THAT THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP BEGAN TO BLAME ME FOR IT BY SAYING THAT I PUT WATER IN THE COOLANT WHICH CAUSED THE COOLANT RESERVOIR TO FREEZE AND THE HOSE TO MALFUNCTION. I TOLD THEM THAT I HAVE RECORDS OF CONSISTENTLY TAKING IT TO A GM DEALER FOR MAINTENANCE, REPAIRS, AND ANYTHING THUS WHY WOULD I NOW TRY TO PUT WATER IN THE COOLANT. I DID NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THE HOOD AREA OR RECEIVE A COOLANT FLUSH BECAUSE THE CAR JUST TURNED 5 YEARS OLD A FEW MONTHS AGO. THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO IS PROVIDING BIASED INFORMATION BECAUSE I DID NOT PURCHASE THE CAR WITH THEM OR USE THAT LOCATION FOR PREVIOUS REPAIRS. THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS AN UNUSUAL ISSUE. I CALLED GM AND THEY WORKED WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER AT THAT SAME DEALERSHIP TO TRY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AND THE DEALERSHIP AND GM IS NOT TRYING TO DO ANYTHING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY GM DEALERS FOR THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE CAR, I AM THE ONLY OWNER, NO ACCIDENTS AND I CANNOT REACH A RESOLVE WITH THEM. THERE IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE WITH THE MANUFACTURING OF THE CAR AND THE EQUIPMENT HAS A DEFECT TO ALLOW COOLANT TO MIX WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID, BUT NO ONE IS TRYING TO HELP BECAUSE IT IS EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. *TR

2009 Pontiac G3 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2009 Pontiac G3.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FLUID
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Chevrolet Aveo and 2009 Pontiac G3 vehicles. The vehicles may contain brake fluid which does not protect against corrosion of the valves inside the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module, affecting the closing motion of the valves.
- Consequence: If the ABS valve corrodes it may result in longer brake pedal travel or reduced performance, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ABS module, free of charge, in any vehicle that did not have its module replaced under a previous customer satisfaction campaign. The recall began in late September 2014. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), and 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac). GM's number for this recall is 14505.

It's a great car for the price! I haven't owned it for very long, so I can't say too much, but it's turning out to be a really fun little car.
-
Despite my initial satisfaction with the car, I have been experiencing recurring issues with the check engine light coming on. Despite the dealership's efforts, the problem persists and I am currently dissatisfied with the situation. I purchased the G3 for its fuel efficiency, but the cost of the loaner car I have been using while my car is being repaired has negated any savings. I am confident that the dealership will be able to resolve the issue and I look forward to being able to fully enjoy my car once again.
-
Fun car! I'm so glad you're excited to drive it! It's great to hear that it's roomy for a small car, comfortable, has great gas mileage, and handles well. I noticed someone mentioned road noise, but I had an AVEO before and that was much noisier than the Pontiac G3. I think you'll find that the G3 has much less road noise and a much better ride overall. I highly recommend getting this car, I'm sure you'll love it!
-
I purchased my G3 new in July of 2009 and I absolutely love it! Although I have already put over 20,000 miles on it and need new tires, I still adore it. When the dealer first showed me the car, I laughed and said there was no way I could be comfortable in it, but he proved me wrong. I am a larger woman and I find the car to be very comfortable. I only had one small issue with it when I first bought it, but since then it has been fine. While I don't think I get great gas mileage, I still love the car.

I'm so glad you bought this car! It sounds like you made a great choice. The Pontiac dealer had exactly what you were looking for, with all the features you wanted and even some you didn't know you needed. The interior is especially nice, and it's great that you're getting good gas mileage. It's also reassuring that replacement parts won't be hard to find. It's wonderful that your wife likes it too, but it's understandable that you turned down her offer to trade. Overall, it sounds like you're really happy with your purchase!

I'm disappointed with the gas mileage I'm getting on my new g3. The car was advertised as getting up to 40 miles per gallon, but I'm only getting 24 in the city and 29 on the highway. This is a significant drop from the advertised 29 city and 34 highway. I previously owned an hhr that was getting 33 miles per gallon, so this is a big change for me. I'm considering my options, but trading it in would result in a significant loss.
Lonny Morar 2024-05-16
My family has owned the 2009 sedan since it was brand new, and it has been a reliable vehicle. However, after the recent spark plug recall, we have noticed some issues with the spark plugs and coil pack. We are confident that it is not a problem with the cam and are hopeful that it is just the plugs. Despite these recent issues, the car still maintains its excellent fuel efficiency and attractive design.

So i have a new 09 Hummer and due to the deteriorating economy the dealership has the G3 as their loaner fleet. Not a big deal since I anly (cross my fingers) have to drive this thing for a few days... Honestly GM rebadging a DAEWOO is about as lame as watching TV without TiVo... how can you people say that you like this gocart with a straight face??? its slower than molasses in winter, about as much sind noise as a motorcycle doin 90 the AC is horrible the seats belong in a john boat, this thing reminds me of cheap toys made in china - when you buy them new do they come in a box with crappy assembly instructions and plastic tools??
