1991 Plymouth Voyager problems
Plymouth Voyager is a nameplate for a range of vans that were marketed by the Plymouth division of Chrysler. From 1974 until 1983, the Voyager was a full-size van, sold as the counterpart of Dodge Sportsman (later the Dodge Ram Wagon). Starting with the 1984 model year, the Voyager was marketed as one of the new Chrysler minivan, along with the Dodge Caravan. As a minivan, there were three generations of the Voyager from 1984 until 2000. Following the closure of the Plymouth division in 2000, the Voyager was marketed under the Chrysler brand as a lower-trim version of the Chrysler Town & Country through 2003.
From 1988 through 2016, Chrysler used the Chrysler Voyager name for export-market minivans; during the existence of the Plymouth brand, export-market Voyagers were produced with the body and trim of the Dodge Caravan. Including the Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Caravan with their rebadged Chrysler, Lancia, and Volkswagen variants, the Chrysler minivans collectively rank as the 13th best-selling automotive model line worldwide.
The Plymouth Voyager minivan was assembled by Chrysler at its Windsor Assembly facility in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; from 1987 to 2000, the Voyager was also assembled at Saint Louis Assembly in Fenton, Missouri (North plant from 1987 through 1995; South plant from 1996 until 2000).
The full-size Plymouth Voyager van was assembled from 1974 until 1983 at the Pillette Road Truck Assembly in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and at the St. Louis North Assembly Plant in Fenton, Missouri.

Common 1991 Plymouth Voyager problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Plymouth Voyager 1991, several common problems have been reported:
- Transmission Problems:
Complaints have surfaced regarding transmission problems in the 1991 Plymouth Voyager 3.3 model. Issues such as leaks from axle seals and incorrect fluid usage, not using ATF+4 and a Mopar filter, have been highlighted. Using the wrong fluid can lead to severe damage to the transmission, emphasizing the importance of proper maintenance and fluid selection.
- Engine Overheating and Head Gasket Issues:
Some owners have experienced engine overheating in the Plymouth Voyager, particularly when temperatures exceed around 90 degrees Celsius. This can result in damage to the heads and head gaskets, requiring replacements. The 2.5 R4 engine from VM Motori, used in some models, was particularly prone to these overheating issues, impacting the vehicle's reliability and performance.
- Valve Guide or Seat Deterioration:
Another common problem reported by owners is the deterioration of valve guides or seats in the engine, leading to increased oil consumption and occasional smoking. This issue, although not causing significant performance problems, can be costly to repair and may affect the vehicle's emissions and overall engine health.
These common problems with the Plymouth Voyager 1991 highlight the importance of regular maintenance, proper fluid selection, and prompt attention to any signs of malfunction to ensure the longevity and performance of the vehicle.

This workhorse is truly amazing! It may seem plain, but it's incredibly dependable in all kinds of weather. With over 196,000 miles on it, I've had to do a major overhaul of the engine, radiator, and alternator, but it's still going strong. It's a versatile vehicle that continues to look great with its annual exterior wax job. I love it so much that I just purchased a new Chrysler Limited van, but I'm definitely keeping this old but good one. After all, Chrysler makes the best minivan on the market!

Hello! I have been the proud owner of this van since 1992 and it has been my primary vehicle until just a year ago. It has an impressive 238,000 miles on it and the motor has never been opened up and does not burn oil. I have taken great care of it over the years, replacing the transmission once, the shocks once, and other repairs such as the water pump and gaskets. It even has the heavy duty towing package and I once towed a boat across the country when it had 200,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, my wife will be buying a new car this year and we have too many cars, so I have decided to sell it. I will be sad to see it go, as it has been such a great van! Thank you for considering it.

We have owned this car for a number of years now, but unfortunately it has had some reliability issues since day one. Despite taking it to the dealership and a mechanic on numerous occasions, it has cost us a considerable amount of money to keep it running. Recently, we experienced an issue where the van wouldn't let my daughter put it in park in the garage. We just wanted to share our experience with other drivers out there. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

This van has been great for me and my family, and it keeps going strong year after year. It's perfect for hauling stuff (especially with the seats removed) and does a fantastic job of towing my ski boat. Although I did have a couple of issues with the head gasket - one at 101,000 miles and another at 130,000 - overall it has been a very dependable vehicle.

I recently purchased a new computer, but unfortunately experienced some issues with it after only 6 months. Thankfully, the dealer was able to replace it and I haven't had any problems since. I even decided to get an extended warranty for added peace of mind. However, during a recent check-up, the dealer did find some issues with the flex brake hose and recommended that I get the brakes done all around before the warranty expires. Despite driving this van every day since I bought it, I have only had to do regular maintenance and replace the transmission and an oxygen sensor in the past 10 years. Overall, this van has only cost me about 1500.00 CAD in maintenance over the past decade. While there are some minor things that need attention now, such as the timing belt, shocks, and sagging passenger door, I plan on driving this van for another 5 years.
