- Oil Leakage: Oil leakage is another common problem in the 1994 Dodge Caravan. The leakage often originates from the gasket or the oil filter adapter of the engine. This issue can lead to significant engine damage if not addressed promptly. Drivers are advised to check their engine oil levels regularly and address any leaks immediately to prevent further damage.
- Failing Power Door Lock: The power door lock system in the 1994 Dodge Caravan is prone to failure. Drivers have reported that their doors would not lock or unlock properly, even after hearing the beep indicating that the doors were locked. This issue can be caused by faulty keys or internal switches, which may require replacement to fix the problem.
- Popping Crankshaft Seal: The crankshaft seal in the 1994 Dodge Caravan is prone to popping open, leading to oil leaks. This issue can be caused by a faulty seal, which may require replacement to fix the problem. Drivers are advised to check their engine oil levels regularly and address any leaks immediately to prevent further damage.
- Stalling Engine: The engine in the 1994 Dodge Caravan is prone to stalling, which can be caused by a dirty throttle body. Drivers have reported low engine idle while their van was warmed up, which often caused the oil light to illuminate. Cleaning the throttle body can correct this issue, but it is essential to address the problem promptly to prevent further damage to the engine.
In conclusion, the 1994 Dodge Caravan has several common problems that owners should be aware of. These issues can lead to significant engine damage if not addressed promptly, so it is essential to address any problems as soon as they arise. THE VAN IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT SOON IT WILL NO LONGER HAVE ANY PAINT. POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2003-06-06
- VIN: 1B4GH54R3RX
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON OUR 1994 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITHOUT ANY WARNING - THE VAN IS JUST UNDER 9 YEARS OLD AND HAD 86292 MILES. IT HAS BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED AND IS MAINTAINED IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. IT IS USED TO COMMUTE TO WORK AND AS A FAMILY CAR WITHOUT ANY TOWING OR HEAVY LOADS. REGULAR TRANSMISSION SERVICE AND CHECKUP HAS BEEN PERFORMED WITH LAST ONE BEFORE THE FAILURE AT 72456 MILES. NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND AT THIS SERVICE, OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE TAKEN APPROPRIATE ACTION. THE FAILURE HAPPENED IN AN OFFICE UNDERGROUND PARKING LOT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN MY WIFE TRIED TO PARK IT. IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY OR ON A BUSY STREET AND COULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS TO HER SAFETY AND TO OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROAD. I RESEARCHED INTO THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND A LOT OF CHRYSLER/DODGE CARAVAN OWNERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS OVER THE YEARS. I EVEN TALKED TO FRIENDS AND PEOPLE I KNOW WHO ARE CARAVAN OWNERS AND SEVERAL TOLD ME IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS BUT CHRYSLER HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. FAILURES EVEN HAPPEN AT LOWER MILEAGE THAN MY VAN AND TO OLDER MODELS. REPLACED TRANSMISSIONS ARE ALSO KNOWN TO FAIL WITH LOW MILEAGE IN SEVERAL CASES THAT I CAME ACROSS. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER ON THIS MATTER AND THE RIDICULOUS COST OF $2500 THAT I HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A REMANUFACTURED ONE. THE DEALER THAT CHECKED THE PROBLEM ON MY VAN FOUND THAT THERE WERE 4 PROBLEMS FOUND INCLUDING WORN OUT CLUTCHES AND HE HAD NO EXPLANATION FOR THE FAILURE. CHRYSLER INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM AT THIS TIME BUT THEY MAY HAVE ONE LATER ON. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER/DODGE IS WELL AWARE OF THIS DEFECT PROBLEM AND THAT IT IS ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD. CHRYSLER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND REPLACE THE TRANSMISSIONS WITH A BETTER DESIGNED ONE FOR THE SAKE OF SAFETY TO THEIR CUSTOMERS AND OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROAD.

This was a fantastic family car! It was comfortable on long trips and nimble enough to drive around town. It was also incredibly handy for those couple of times a year when we went to the lumber yard or a garage sale. Although we did have two cracked heads ($1600 each), one at 65K and another at 103K, it still treated us pretty well. We recently donated it to a place that will fix it up and give it to a needy person. Even with that major engine problem, there's more right with it than wrong. Since our kids are pretty much grown now, we opted for a sedan instead of another minivan.

This is a fantastic van.

Bought this van used in 1998 with 65000 miles on it, now has 138000 and it keeps going. Just completed a 3000 mile road trip with no problems. It's been very comfortable for a small van. The 3.3 engine performs very well and it's adequate for pulling a small utility trailer. It's been a great van overall!
-
Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with this van. Unfortunately, the transmission failed before the 7 year/70K warranty was up, and my local dealer only offered a factory rebuilt option. Instead, I decided to have Aamco repair it and pay for the repair myself, while also getting their

This is our first minivan and I'll never be without one in the family. It has the 3.0 V6 and has been trouble-free for 2 years. Although the transmission shifts a little hard, it hasn't caused any issues. It has plenty of power and room, although the roof rack could be a bit stronger. Getting the seats in and out is no small task as they weigh a ton, but once they're in, it holds a lot.

Now at 108K miles. The car has had some issues in the past, including a new transmission at 70K ($2500). Unfortunately, the transmission was never quite right, but the dealer did their best to address the issue. Some major engine work was needed by 75K, but overall the car has been reliable. While there have been some recall notices in the mail over the years, I'm excited to be heading to the Honda dealer soon to check out a 2003 Odyssey!
