2011 Nissan Versa problems
Nissan Versa is an automobile nameplate used by the Japanese manufacturer Nissan in the Americas for the following models:
According to a Nissan press release in 2008, "versa" is short for "versatile space" meant to imply the spaciousness of the interior and configurable cargo arrangements. The Versa is one of the few remaining subcompact cars left on sale in the North American market, with most automakers dropping small cars from their lineups to focus on crossovers and SUVs.

Common 2011 Nissan Versa problems
The Nissan Versa, a popular compact car, has been known for its affordability and spacious interior. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the most common issues with the Nissan Versa, specifically the 2011 model:
- Transmission Issues: Nissan Versa transmission problems are among the most reported issues, particularly in the older 2012-2017 models due to the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) used during that period.
- Steering Problems: Nissan Versa owners have reported that their vehicle tends to drift into other lanes and sometimes locks up without warning, especially when driving on the freeway at average speeds. Although many drivers initially thought this was due to alignment issues, the steering problem persisted even after repairs. This issue was particularly prevalent in the 2016 Nissan Versa.
- Suspension System Problems: Based on the issues reported on CarComplaints.com, nearly 30% of Nissan Versa problems can be linked to the suspension system, especially in the 2009 model.
- Windshield Wiper Issues: If the Versa's windshield wipers aren't working, it is likely that there is a broken wiper motor, which is expensive to replace.
- Exhaust Leaks: Exhaust leaks are a common area of complaints, with examples including rusted-out muffler flanges or mid-exhaust pipes and rattling heat shields.
- Fuel Pump or Fuel Pressure Regulator Failure: A failed fuel pump or faulty fuel pressure regulator can cause a long crank or no start. The problem must be properly diagnosed to pinpoint the defective part. Replacing a fuel pump is estimated at 1-1.5 hours labor plus the part.
- Door Lock Actuator Failure: One of the door lock actuators can stop working and might need to be replaced.
- Blower Fan Resistor Failure: If the blower fan is working only at a high speed, it might be due to a bad blower motor resistor, which can also cause the Check Engine light to come on.
These common problems with the Nissan Versa, particularly the 2011 model, should be considered by potential buyers to make informed decisions about purchasing and maintaining this vehicle.
Is Nissan Versa 2011 a good car?
While many subcompacts are crude and cheap, the roomy Versa stands out as a class act. It has an absorbent ride, a smooth powertrain and a quiet cabin. The rear seat is especially generous, more so than some mid-sized sedans. And, interior furnishings are relatively posh for the price.
How long will a 2011 Nissan Versa engine last?
The 2011 Versa can last over 200,000 miles, with only rare engine and air conditioning issues.
Is there any recalls on a 2011 Nissan Versa?
(Nissan) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Versa Sedan and 2007-2012 Versa Hatchback vehicles. The affected vehicles have a driver frontal air bag inflator that may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to moderate absolute humidity, temperatures, and temperature cycling.
What year did Nissan Versa have transmission problems?
Nissan Versa Years With the Least Reliable Transmissions
The 2012 isn't far behind the 2008 version, suffering from severe transmission faults. The transmission system in this car was so bad that Nissan had to recall the version. The 2007 and 2009 selections also have very severe issues with their transmission.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-11
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 3N1CC1APXBL
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: On September 11th, my wife was involved in a car accident while driving her 2011 Nissan Versa. The collision resulted in the vehicle rolling over and ending up upside down. Shockingly, none of the airbags deployed during this serious incident. A family member recommended that I report this to Nissan, which I promptly did. However, their response, received last Friday, was rather concerning. According to Nissan, the airbags were not designed to deploy in the event of a rollover crash, and they suggested there was no further action to be taken on their end. Today, I consulted with an attorney's office regarding this matter, and they advised me to report the incident to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a crucial step. Consequently, I am submitting these details to NHTSA to ensure that this incident is properly documented and investigated. Safety is paramount, and I believe it is essential to bring attention to this situation so that appropriate actions can be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-25
- VIN: 3N1BC1AP2BL
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: On 7-25-23, my wife and I were riding in our 2011 Nissan Versa locally and noticed a banging noise coming from the front end of the car, especially when hitting bumps or uneven payment. When we parked the car at home, I noticed a small piece of metal shaped like a coil spring on the road where we usually park. I phoned our mechanic at Ryan Automotive Goodyear in Moon Twp and asked him if he had time today to see where the banging noise was coming from. We arrived at Ryan Automotive around 3pm. Our mechanic [XXX] said that the front coil spring has broken and the top engine mount needs to be replaced as well. There was a recall on the front coil springs back in 2015 that I had done at West Hills Nissan in Moon Twp, which was sold to #1 Cochran Nissan. Cochran Nissan has no record of my car being serviced at West Hills Nissan along with the recall work. I am wondering if West Hills Nissan ever replaced the coil springs or did they use the recalled coil springs for the replacement. I am trying to find out if the front coil spring recall can still be honored at a local Nissan Dealer. When I searched for official Nissan recall centers near me, #1 Cochran Nissan does not come up. As you know, a broken coil spring can easily fall below the strut and slice the sidewall on your tire in the blink of an eye, especially on the highway. This is a dangerous situation, so I would like to get the recall on the front coil springs done at a local Nissan dealer, otherwise I will consider trading the car in toward a newer car. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] mobile and [XXX] . [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-13
- VIN: 3n1bc1cp8bl
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Driver door handle will not open from inside car at times. The exterior handle locking mechanism gets stuck not allowing the door to open from the inside. When this happens, I need to roll down the window to reach outside and jiggle the exterior door handle in order to be able to open the door from inside the car. This poses a serious safety hazard of the driver not being able to exit the vehicle in an emergency. This is a common issue with the Nissan Versa car on many car forums online. I believe there was a recall issued for newer model cars, but not the 2011 year.

- Summary: The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Versa. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle hesitated. The contact felt the hesitation coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle as the low tire pressure warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over and saw that the front passenger’s side tire was completely flat and torn all the way around. The contact called roadside assistance and a spare tire was placed on the vehicle. The contact then drove to a dealer and was informed that the front passenger’s side coil spring fractured, which caused the puncture and damage to the tire. The dealer replaced the front driver’s and passenger’s side coil springs along with the tire. After the repair, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V573000 (Suspension) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the recall and informed him that the Vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 188,000. The tire puncture caused the tire to burst, resulting in loss of control of the vehicle. The puncture was more like a shredding of the entire circumference.

- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: THE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE OR UNWOUND AND STABBED THE TIRE. WE WERE JUST LEAVING, STILL IN THE DRIVEWAY AND HAD ONLY TRAVELED A FEW INCHES WHEN WE HEARD A NOISE AND STOPPED. WE WATCHED THE TIRE DEFLATE AND HEARD IT HISSING. THE NEXT DAY (TODAY) WE REMOVED THE TIRE AND FOUND THAT IT HAD BEEN STABBED. MY GRAND-NEPHEW FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL NOTICE. I CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AT 1-800-867-7669. AND LEFT A MESSAGE, THEN CALLED NISSAN ANCHORAGE DEALERSHIP. THEY OFFERED TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT BEFORE THEY COULD HELP. THAT WOULD REQUIRE A 45 MILE TOW. THEY GAVE ME A DIFFERENT NUMBER AT NISSAN: 800-647-7261. I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH [XXX], SHE GAVE ME A CASE #[XXX], BUT SAID MY VIN WASN'T IN THE CAMPAIGN. APPARENTLY IT DOESN'T APPLY IF THE CAR IS OVER 9 YEARS OLD, AND MAYBE THE MILEAGE IS TOO HIGH, IT'S 104,789. WE ARE ALIVE AND UNHURT BECAUSE OF THE TIMING, BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE. THEIR WEBSITE DOES NOT LIST ALASKA AS QUALIFYING FOR THE CAMPAIGN. I WILL BE HAVING THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP FOR REPAIRS. NISSAN SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE EXPENSES. I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE REPAIRS MIGHT COST MORE THAN REPLACEMENT. My wife and I bought two 2011 Versas, and we both love them! I got a 1.6 manual, and she got a 1.6 automatic. The 1.6 has power nothing, which is fine with me. It's a great starter car or for someone who wants a great car but doesn't care about all the frills. The interior room is amazing for such a small car. Even with my 36

When my 03 Toyota Camry broke down, I was devastated. However, it led me to the best purchase ever! I am completely in love with my espresso black 2011 Versa hatchback. It's sleek, trendy, and so much fun to drive. I adore fitting into smaller parking spaces, and the great added features that I chose really put my 'luxury' Camry to shame. With the CD player, AM/FM radio, iPod dock, and auxiliary plug, I'm never bored in my car. I also love the intelligent key and Bluetooth. I couldn't ask for more! I absolutely love it!

This car is really spacious! I can easily fit my road bike in the back with the rear seat down without having to take the front wheel off. The gas mileage is great, getting about 37 on the highway and 28 in the city. I absolutely LOVE the six speed manual. The engine runs smoothly and the car is quiet even at high speeds. It's also really easy to drive long distances. The car has decent power when the RPMs are used correctly. I haven't had any issues with it so far, even with 86,000 miles on it. I highly recommend getting it!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I purchased it a year ago with 80,000 miles on it, and now it has 100,000 miles. I must say, it's the best car I've ever owned! I'm particularly happy that it doesn't have the CVT transmission, as I've read that it's best to avoid that type. Take care!

I bought it 6 months ago with 28,000 miles and it already has 42,000. I am really impressed with it. During the holidays, I traveled to Florida, covering 2,300 miles without any issues and with good fuel consumption. The only problem I encountered was with the A/C, which was not working when I bought it, but it was repaired under warranty at no cost. Since then, all I have to do is put fuel in it and drive it. What a pleasant surprise!

I have a 2011 Nissan Versa SL. Although it has been reliable for the most part, I have experienced some issues after reaching 100,000 miles. The loose fuel cap light and check engine light have been coming on frequently, and I also had to have some exhaust work done. Recently, I had an unexpected issue with the ABS, brake, and traction control lights coming on, accompanied by a noise from the engine area. After taking it to the mechanic, I found out that the ABS module was bad and it took almost a week to fix, costing me just under $2000. I have also noticed an increase in noise when turning. It's important to be aware that the Versa may have some issues as it ages.

Despite having all the necessary maintenance, this car has stranded me twice in the past year. The engine even turned off while I was driving down the interstate, almost causing an accident. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this vehicle to anyone due to its issues with the air compressor and electrical system. However, I am currently working with the local dealership to resolve the situation, despite being 4k upside down on it.
