2010 Kia Optima problems
The Kia K5, formerly known as the Kia Optima (Korean: 기아 옵티마), is a mid-size car manufactured by Kia since 2000 and marketed globally through various nameplates. First generation cars were mostly marketed as the Optima, although the Kia Magentis name was used in Europe and Canada when sales began there in 2002. For the second-generation models, Kia used the Kia Lotze and Kia K5 name for the South Korean market, and the Magentis name globally, except in the United States, Canada, Malaysia and the Middle East, where the Optima name was retained until the 2021 model year. The K5 name is used for all markets since the introduction of the fifth generation in 2019.
First generation (MS; 2000)
From 2000–2005, Optimas were a rebadged variant of the Hyundai Sonata, differing from the Sonata only in minor exterior styling details and equipment content. It was first shown in South Korea in July 2000 and was the first product of the Kia-Hyundai platform integration plan.
In Australia, the Optima was introduced in May 2001, offered only with a 2.5 L V6 engine, and choice of manual or automatic transmission. The updated Optima was offered with a new 2.7 L engine, 4-speed automatic (the manual was dropped), and features such as full leather interior and alloy wheels were made standard. Thanks in part to better marketing, sales increased to 41,289 units in 2005, an all-time high. The Optima was sold until 2006, when it was replaced by the Magentis.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-05
- VIN: KNAGH4A87A5
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Car would not engage into “Park” while attempting to park car in driveway. Shifter would not engage in any gear. Tried to reset button in center console. Contacted mechanic, he towed to garage. Plastic clip connected to cable broke. Earlier Kia’s had a recall due to this issue, why not all Kias due to it is still happening. I was very fortunate that this happened to me in my driveway and not on the highway. I understand there is the same part at the other end of the cable, connects to transmission and shifter, if it also breaks it is going to be very expensive to repair due to placement of the part. I had to rent a vehicle for work while part had to be ordered and replaced.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-10
- VIN: Knagg4a84a5
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Rod bearing knocking noise. Vehicle stopped running when slowing down. Car is available for inspection. No warning lights come on. The rod bearing can pierce the engine and cause oil to leak and then a fire. Problem first identified by Monroe and then another independent when the car died in front of his shop- both confirmed this is a known issue with kias- but since ours is a 2010 it is not covered under the current recall for the same issue in years 2011 to 2013. I spoke with cooper Kia in Utica as I was looking for support with this issue and was told by Mike Digiovanni to call a lawyer. On a later call to Pat Stacey he said they don’t work for Kia and he stated that the salesman said I came in threatening to call a lawyer- not true- I was advised to call one. I had gone in explaining that I was upset as I thought this was a safe car for my 17 year old to travel in between college and work and it’s the same issue as the 2011-2013 recall

2010 Kia Optima recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2010 Kia Optima.
- Manufacturer: Kia Motors Corporation
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Rondo, model year 2007-2011 Sedona, Sorento and Sportage, model year 2010-2011 Soul, model year 2008-2011 Optima, model year 2010 Forte, model year 2007-2009 Amanti, and model year 2009 Borrego vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Kia recalled 623,658 model year 2007-2010 Rondo and Sportage, model year 2007-2011 Sorento, model year 2007 Sedona, model year 2010-2011 Soul, and model year 2011 Optima vehicles. In September 2013, Kia informed the agency that it was adding an additional 356,719 vehicles to this campaign. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 980,377. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of PARK without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will send an interim notification to owners in May 2013. When parts are available, owners will receive a second notification and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall campaign number is SC098.

Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the car. However, I have noticed that the tire grip on snowy roads is not as good as I expected, especially when trying to go uphill from a stop. This is something I never experienced with my previous Rio. Additionally, after servicing the transmission, I noticed some chattering when slowing down, which is not ideal for an automatic transmission. Although I went to the local dealer for all service, I wasn't completely happy with the service personnel. I have also noticed a gasoline odor getting into the cabin intermittently, but unfortunately, the local dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. On the bright side, the car still gets an impressive 32 mpg on the highway and handles dry roads excellently. The original tires are about halfway worn out, but they look evenly worn across the width, even after being rebalanced once.

I've only had this car for about 2 months, but it's been great so far! This is actually my second Kia - my previous one was an '06 Sorento. I have to say, Kia has really stepped up their game. I chose this car over a new Honda Accord because Kia offers more bang for your buck. For less than the price of the Honda, I got a touch screen system with navigation and satellite radio, a sunroof, iPod connection, and heated seats. It's also the most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned, and the gas mileage is decent too. Plus, the warranty is awesome. I absolutely love my new car!

I went to the dealership with the intention of buying a Chevy or a Ford, but I fell in love with the Kia Optima. The interior is comfortable and easy on the eyes, and the value is unbeatable. The 2.4 engine provides perfect power and fuel economy, averaging 27mpg. It drives great and has plenty of room for my family of 4, and it's surprisingly stylish. Don't pass up a test drive, you will be shocked. I certainly was sold on this car!

I bought this car just three weeks ago, after previously owning a Sorento for eight weeks. The dealership suggested this car to me, but as someone who drives on the highway every day, I must admit I'm a bit disappointed. While it's doable, my kids and I feel a bit cramped with two boosters and a 13-year-old in the back. Additionally, the rectangular side mirrors take some getting used to, and I don't always feel like I have good coverage. However, the car has good power and handles the huge daily hill with ease. The material used for the seats is a bit cheap and pills easily, so I'll be investing in some seat covers. On the plus side, the silver color hides dirt well and looks sharp. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, although I do wish I could have afforded electric seats and a sunroof.

My husband and I have always been fans of American cars. We looked around and test drove many, and we found that for the value and what you get, you can't go wrong! Recently, we had to trade in our big SUV due to our changing economy, but we were able to purchase this car and we can't say enough good things about it! It has a comfortable ride, is good on fuel, and looks nice. We highly recommend getting the convenience package with it.

Hi there! My husband and I recently decided to expand our family, which meant we needed a bigger car. Unfortunately, we've had a few issues with our Kia. In the first week of owning it, we had to replace the crank sensor. While it was fine for about three weeks, it went out again. We've also had to replace the oil pump twice since we bought the car, and now it's going out again. Our check engine light has been kicking on and off, so we took the car to have a diagnostic run and found out that the crank sensor is bad again. Interestingly, our cousin bought a car just like ours and has had the same problems. While we're disappointed with the car's performance, we're hopeful that we can find a solution. Thanks for listening!

This car has vibrated since the day you bought it. Despite replacing 11 tires, the car still shudders and vibrates going down the highway. According to the Kia representative, this is normal. If you are looking for a smooth highway ride, it is not recommended to buy a Kia. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. Unfortunately, I had a bit of trouble with my car. As soon as I got home, I noticed that the trunk release button on the door wasn't working. Additionally, the headlights were also giving me some trouble - only the high beams seemed to be functioning properly. I took it back to the dealer the next day, but they couldn't seem to figure out what was causing the issues. They asked me to bring it back next week so that someone else could take a look. I just wanted to share my experience with you and advise you to steer clear of Kia dealerships. Thanks for listening!

Every spring, the car codes return to the dealership and they clear the code (multiple misfires). After several restarts, the car runs fine. However, they say they can't find what's wrong with the engine (2.7 V6), which they no longer offer in Optima. The vehicle has had this issue since 10,000 miles and only has 49,000 as of 2013. Is this a dealership or KIA problem? Please let me know. Thank you!
