2013 Nissan Quest problems
The Nissan Quest is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Nissan for model years 1993–2017 over four generations.
The first two generations (internally designated V40 and V41) of the Quest were short-wheelbase models co-developed and manufactured with Ford, aside its badge engineered Mercury Villager. For model year 2004 and the third generation (V42), Nissan ended its joint venture with Ford, manufacturing the Quest on its own. For model year 2011, the fourth generation (RE52) became a widened variant of the Nissan Elgrand minivan and was now manufactured in Japan. For the preceding generations, the Quest loosely shared its chassis and powertrain with the Nissan Maxima.
Following the decline of minivan sales in North America, Nissan ended sales of the Quest after the 2017 model year.

Common 2013 Nissan Quest problems
The 2013 Nissan Quest is a seven-passenger minivan that is often overlooked in the market, despite its distinctive design and appealing qualities for families.
Transmission-related problems are considered the worst thing that can happen to a Nissan Quest. The minivan can develop various issues like hesitation when shifting gears, rough transition during a shift, abrupt deceleration, reduced acceleration, and transmission failure. Replacing faulty Nissan Quest transmission parts can be costly and drivers have reported the problem persisting or returning despite costly repairs.
In particular, some 2007 Nissan Quest transmissions tend to jerk while driving, accompanied by other transmission issues like hesitation, slippage, and failure to engage gears. This problem can make the minivan impossible to drive safely, and even the improved automatic transmission of a late-generation unit like the 2016 model year can jerk and hesitate while shifting between gears.
The 2013 Nissan Quest has a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), which was still relatively unknown in the automotive market in 2011. This unfamiliarity might have contributed to the vehicle's poor sales, as many potential buyers might have been hesitant about the technology
In addition to transmission issues, some Nissan Quest models, particularly those from the 2004, 2006, and 2007 model years, are prone to engine noises caused by worn-out timing chains, timing chain guides, or timing chain tensioners. While the engine can sometimes still run fine despite the background rattling, it can potentially get damaged.
Brake problems can also show up fairly often in certain Nissan Quest model years. While the brakes are generally reliable, some issues can create scary situations during driving.
The 2013 Nissan Quest, in particular, offers a quiet and smooth ride, roomy seating, excellent continuously variable transmission (CVT), sharp steering and handling, and fold-flat second-row seats. However, it has less cargo space than competitors, a seven-passenger maximum, and is short on interior storage.
In conclusion, while the 2013 Nissan Quest has many appealing qualities, it is essential to be aware of the potential transmission, engine, and brake issues that may arise, particularly in specific model years. Regular maintenance and inspections can help mitigate these problems and ensure a safer and more enjoyable driving experience.
What is the common problem with Nissan Quest?
TrueEdge.com also reported that the Nissan Quest is very fuel-efficient. Common problems of the Nissan Quest include transmission troubles, engine problems, and brake problems.
Is the 2013 Nissan Quest a good car?
The 2013 Nissan Quest is easily the most distinctive-looking minivan on the market, but most shoppers tend to overlook it. That's a shame, since the Quest offers qualities that most families would appreciate. For starters, the Quest is the most enjoyable minivan to drive, thanks largely to a strong V6 engine and a CVT.
How many miles will a 2013 Nissan Quest last?
You'll find the typical mileage in the Nissan Quest to be around 200,000 miles. Thus, the high mileage for the vehicle is around 150,000 miles. While the car still should run fine at this point, there is a much higher chance it will break down unexpectedly.
Is a Nissan Quest a reliable car?
The Nissan Quest Reliability Rating is 3.5 out of 5.0, which ranks it 5th out of 8 for minivans.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-05-05
- VIN: JN8AE2KP2D9
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: WE PURCHASED OUR 2013 NISSAN QUEST MINIVAN SIX YEARS AGO, AND THE CVT TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM CHURCH ON SUNDAY, MAY 5TH. AFTER GETTING GAS, I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND THE ENTIRE FRONT STARTED VIBRATING AND VERY MINIMAL ACCELERATION ABILITY, 0-10MPH. I WENT FROM PARKING LOT ONTO CITY STREETS BARELY ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD/ACCELERATE. ONCE I WAS ON BIGGER STREET, SPEED LIMIT OF 40MPH, I STILL COULDN'TT ACCELERATE OVER 5-10MPH. PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY;LATER IN AFTERNOON, INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CAME TO OUR HOUSE TO TEST CONTROL PANEL WITH CODE READER, HE CONFIRMED IT WAS THE TRANS. WE TEST DROVE TO DETERMINE IF WE COULD DRIVE 20-30 MINUTES TO NISSAN DEALER, BUT WE BARELY GOT A HALF A BLOCK FROM OUR HOUSE BEFORE WE LOST TOTAL ACCELERATION - COULD NOT MOVE FORWARD AT ALL. WE SHUT THE VAN OFF, RESTARTED IT WHICH ALLOWED US TO GO 5MPH & GET HOME. THE CVT TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IN ALL NISSAN MODELS. 6 YEAR OLD VAN, STILL OWE 10 CAR PAYMENTS W/LIMITED WARRANTY VALID UNTIL APRIL 2020, HOWEVER WE HAVE 118,000 MILES,SURPASSING 100K LIMIT. WE'VE READ ONLINE 1KS OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ON CVT TRANS FAILURE,SENTRA, ROGUE, MURANO, ALTIMA, QUEST. NISSAN REFUSES TO RECALL FOR CVT TRANS REPLACEMENT BECAUSE IT IS NOT DEEMED A SAFETY ISSUE. BEING UNABLE TO ACCELERATE ABOVE 10MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH OUR KIDS IN THE VEHICLE IS A SAFETY ISSUE. NISSAN US CUST SERVICE REP GAVE US THE RUN AROUND: TOW VAN TO DEALER FOR NISSAN TEST THEN THE CASE WOULD BE REVIEWED (SHELL OUT $300) HOWEVER THERE IS NO GUARANTEE OF REPLACEMENT OF CVT TRANSMISSION BY NISSAN. I AM A TEACHER, THIS MINIVAN IS MY TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM SCHOOL. MY HUSBAND WORKS PART-TIME AS WAREHOUSE LABORER, SO WE CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THE CVT TRANS FOR $5000. NISSAN CORPORATE NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS SAFETY ISSUE INVOLVING THE CVT TRANS & REPLACE ALL CVTS & DEVELOP NEW TRANS. LIVES ARE AT STAKE.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

I CHECKED ANY WARNING SIGN SUCH AS CHECK ENGINE BUT THERE WAS NO SUCH SIGN. EVENTUALLY THE VAN STARTED ACCELERATING VERY SLOWLY AND PICKED UP SOME SPEED. I STRAIGHT REACHED TO GLEN BURNIE TRANSMISSIONS SHOP AND THEIR MASTER TECHNICIAN CONDUCTED THE DIAGNOSTIC AND A DRIVE TEST. HE THEN INFORMED ME THAT ANTIFREEZE FROM RADIATOR HAS MIXED INTO TRANSMISSION AND CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TOTALLY DAMAGED. HE TOLD ME THAT IT NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR. THE ESTIMATED CAST IS $4595 PLUS TAX. I THEN CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL NISSAN SERVICE AND THEIRIK SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN PATHFINDER AND QUEST EVEN WITHOUT WARNING. HE GAVE ME THE REPAIR ESTIMATE OF $ 7500. I AM TRULY UPSET WITH THIS MANUFACTURER MAJOR DEFECT THAT CAUSE SO MUCH ECONOMIC LOSS TO THE CUSTOMER. I WOULD REALY WANT NISSAN TO REPAIR THIS FOR FREE. WHILE DRIVING TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP THE VAN WOULDN'T PICK UP ACCELERATION AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS AFTER STOP AND ALL THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME WERE JUMBLED UP AND IT MADE A SAFETY HAZARD FOR MOTORISTS AS WELL AS FOR THE PEDESTRIANS IN THE CROSSING.

WE TOOK IT TO THE CLOSEST MECHANIC, WHO TEST DROVE IT BEFORE PULLING IT INTO THE GARAGE TO CHECK THE AXELS. WHEN HE WENT TO PUT IT IN REVERSE TO BACK IT OUT OF THE GARAGE, THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY QUIT. THE MECHANIC INFORMED US AT THAT POINT THAT NISSANS WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION WERE NOTORIOUS FOR HAVING THESE TYPES OF ISSUES. NO CHECK ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION LIGHTS EVER CAME ON.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with the Nissan Quest that I purchased back in February. I'm happy to report that so far, I haven't had any problems with it! It continues to ride smoothly and comfortably, and the interior is really nice. I'm still enjoying the luxury feel. The performance and handling are good, and it's still fun to drive. Overall, I think it's a great value for what you pay. The only thing I would mention is that the third row seats seem a little low for the average adult to sit comfortably. But other than that, I'm really happy with my purchase and would definitely consider another Nissan vehicle in the future.

When we were in the market for a minivan due to having two young boys, the decision was easy once we looked around. Although the Odyssey has more vans on the road, my wife was immediately drawn to the Quest after just one look on the outside. Once we stepped inside, I was sold. It's plush, comfortable, and has all the features you could want in a minivan, except for the Bose radio which we passed on. We saved thousands by choosing the Quest over a similarly equipped Honda. The kids absolutely love it because they have plenty of room and aren't on top of each other.

I recently purchased a used Quest with 43,000 miles on it, and I am pleased to report that it still drives very quietly. The ride is supple with no rattles, and I find it to be on par with German engineering, and in some ways, even better than my 2004 Pacifica. After a year of ownership and putting on 20,000 miles, the Quest still manages to be very quiet, allowing for easy conversation inside without raising your voice. In the past year, the car has only required new brakes, tires, and oil changes. My wife loves this vehicle, and I can see why!

Welcome back! I'm so glad to hear that you fell in love with the vehicle you rented to get home from the airport. It's great to hear that you decided to purchase a 2012 Nissan Quest minivan and that you've been impressed with it so far. The kids must be thrilled with the temperature control in the rear and the standard middle row captain's chairs that prevent them from getting in each other's space. And I completely agree with you about the exterior design - it's so sleek and modern that it's hard not to turn your head and look! Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us.

When I was shopping for a minivan, I was looking for something that had more personality than the usual bland styling. In my opinion, the Quest is by far the most impressive looking minivan out there - it has a very distinctive shape that sets it apart from other comparable vans. But the styling is not the only advantage - the interior is also a major selling point. I own an LE model and I can say that the Honda and Toyota both have very cheap interiors in comparison. If you knock on the dash of a Toyota, you'll see what I mean. With leather seats, the Quest truly feels like a luxury vehicle. And the cargo capacity is massive - if you don't plan on using the car seats, they fold flat and you can fit anything big in there. If you need to move something even bigger, you might want to consider renting a truck.

It's such a shame that the CVT transmission failed on my van so early on. Unfortunately, the cost to replace it was very high. Despite knowing that the transmissions are of poor quality, NISSAN was unwilling to help. It's disappointing because the local dealer is really good. This experience has left me feeling quite frustrated.

I purchased a 2012 Nissan Quest almost a year ago, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a horrible mistake. In hindsight, I should have looked at the Odyssey before making my decision. Like other Quest owners, I have already encountered some problems with it, which is disappointing considering the high price tag of over $30,000. During my visit to the dealership, I had it appraised and was shocked by the numbers. With less than 25,000 miles on it, I was already $9,000 upside down. I was very upset that my investment was not protected in any way. However, I decided to take the plunge and get an Odyssey instead, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. It's the best! Best decision I ever made.

Firstly, I really like the styling of the Quest. Some people may see the 7-passenger capacity as a downside, but let's be honest, who has 6 kids these days? And if you do need that much space, you might as well buy a bus!

I have two sets of twins and when we purchased this van, the younger set was 3 months old and the older set was 2 years old. All four of them needed help getting into their car seats, which was made more challenging by the sliding door that does not go all the way back. This made it difficult to access the back seat, regardless of age. Additionally, snapping the car seat buckles required assistance, which was quite a task. To solve this problem, we had to put the baby car seat in the front seat of the van, lower the middle seat flat, and sit inside to buckle both children. The other middle seat could house a base, but the dedicated helper seat to get in the back could not. Unfortunately, there was not enough room to put one of the car seats as a middle seat in the back (rear facing) for three car seats across the back. We had three Radian car seats and even had someone trained in car seat safety try that arrangement, but it was not feasible. Just imagine a mom with their 4 young kids trying to get into the van after grocery shopping. Safety concerns and speed are her and her kids' friends for getting out of the carts and into a van. It would be so much easier if the door went past the back middle seat to allow access to the third row. As it is, we could have purchased a suburban and had just as much door opening. We should have had all 4 kids with us while buying the van to put all 4 seats in and get the kids in/out of the van. We did not do that, so we did not notice the door did not open all the way. The front sunroof slides half way back and stops, while the rear sunroof slides all the way back. This is not a deal breaker, but it is an annoying feature. Lastly, the toddlers broke the plastic part that protrudes to keep the middle seat belt in place and from dangling. They only weighed 30 pounds, and it broke that easily. I expected more from a $40,000 loaded vehicle. The remote control does not work from the front seats, which means we have to pull over and put the car in park to use the front panel to control the kids' DVD player. While this may be a bit inconvenient, it's a small issue that will resolve itself when the kids are old enough to learn to use the remote. From a mom's standpoint, Nissan got the cup holders right. I absolutely love the warning visual and beeps when someone is in a blind spot, and the visual on the back-up and forward cameras are spot on. I also appreciate that the back door hatch does not raise too high, which prevents any damage to our garage. The AC controls in the back are also a great feature. However, there are a few things that could be improved. For example, a larger rearview mirror that sits higher up on the window, a back window that opens, removable back seats, and a door that opens for full access to the back seat would be great additions. It would also be helpful to have a better mic for using hands-free talking on the phone, an RF remote for the DVD player, a button on the control panel dedicated just for the DVD player, and a button on the garage door opener that either sticks out a little farther than the other buttons, is backlit, or has a different texture. Easier control of the back cabin lights, a stronger fan for foot-level heat, a storage bin on the dash of the driver's door side of the van, a built-in air pump, and snap covers to go over the middle seat backside would also be great additions. Currently, the kids' feet are on the rug-type material that covers the back, so adding a few other snaps to add pockets for toy storage would be a great feature. Update 2/16/17: We have had some electrical issues with the electronics on the doors, and the electronics on the steering wheel stopped working. There is also minor rippling in the ceiling material. Update 8/16/20: We still have some electrical issues as mentioned above, and it seems to get more buggy with time, such as the key fob not working. I have three key fobs, and they all three are buggy, which means it is not the key fob.

Lots of room, easy to get into and out of, great acceleration, nice ride, and comfort. Although the electronics could be improved, the car is still a great choice. Unfortunately, the transmission failed at 75k miles, but don't worry, we'll help you with the repairs. We understand how frustrating it can be when things go wrong, but we're committed to making things right for our loyal customers.
