The Volvo S80 is an executive car produced by the Swedish manufacturer Volvo Cars from 1998 to 2016 across two generations. It took the place of the rear-wheel-drive S90 as Volvo's flagship sedan.
The first generation (1998–2006) was made available for the 1999 model year. It has since been built at the Torslanda Works in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a few 1999 model year cars for the North American market built at Volvo's Halifax Assembly plant. - Summary: These generation of Volvo p3 platform cars had a defective windshield seal that was not the best from the factory. Many cars of this generation (S60, S80, XC90, etc) have had the seals break, causing extreme water leakage as mine has had. And the possibility of the windshield falling out. Mine is bad enough that pushing it lightly from the inside to create a significant gap in the window and the frame of the A pillar. There are many forums and reports of this exact problem and Volvo has yet to voluntarily recall these cars. Many people have reported it to many dealers, but all say they cant replace them. This problem definitely puts the driver and other people in the cabin in danger. And no warning lights go off in relation to the problem. I appreciate your consideration.

- Summary: Warning light on dashboard indicated right front headlamp out. Repair shop removed and replaced original component with new component. Internal inspection of light assembly revealed missing insulation(photos attached) on wiring harness causing a short circuit which also ruined the headlight igniter and control module. Shop stated that this issue is NOT uncommon with Volvo lighting systems. The current concern is the same condition is present in the left(driver) headlight and could cause a short and fire within the headlight assembly. Correspondence with Volvo resulted in no resolution of the issue and lack of concern for the reliability of installed components or possible safety concern for their product.

WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND THEY TOLD US TO TAKE IT BACK TO VOLVO FOR THE RECALL (09V139000)REPAIRS AND CALLED ON OUR BEHALF TO ARRANGE AN APPOINTMENT. THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP TOLD US THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED BUT THE COMPUTER WAS STILL SHOWING THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ERRORS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECTIFIED BY THE SOFTWARE. FINALLY, THE VOLVO DEALERSHIP RE-INSTALLED THE UPDATED SOFTWARE. THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED FIVE BLOWOUTS DUE TO THE SIDE WALL FAILURE BEFORE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AND AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED HE EXPERIENCED THREE BLOWOUTS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT TIRE WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 6 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THE RECALL REPAIR WAS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE SIDE WALL FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2007 Volvo S80.

- Summary: Volvo Cars of N.A., LLC (Volvo) is recalling certain 2008-2016 V70 and XC70, 2007-2016 S80, 2011-2018 S60 and V60, 2016-2018 S60 Cross Country, 2014-2020 S60L, 2009-2015 S80L, 2009-2016 XC60 and 2015-2018 V60 Cross Country vehicles. The flexible steel cable that connects the seat belt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue over time, causing the seat belt to not secure the occupant in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: An unsecured occupant has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat belt anchor cable for both front seats. The recall began December 10, 2020. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R10029.

THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR RETURN HOSE MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY ROUTED, WHICH CAN RESULT IN INCREASED PRESSURE IN THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. THE POWER STEERING RETURN HOSE MAY BURST AT THE STEERING GEAR DUE TO THE INCREASED PRESSURE, RESULTING IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING FLUID.
- Consequence: THE DRIVER MAY EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Wow, I can't stop telling myself how much I love my loaded S80 3.2L on a 24 month lease! I used to have a 1999 S80, but after experiencing many issues with that car, I looked into Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes. After test driving the 2007 S80 and comparing it to the competition, I found that the S80 was the best car for the money. It drives like a dream and has endless amenities. It's simple, elegant, easy to use, and sooo sexy! I only wish it was a bit faster, but the dealership says there will be a software upgrade for the lag. I already have 3,000 miles on it and have had no problems!

I was considering purchasing another BMW 5 series, but I wanted something a little different. After test driving a few cars, I came back to the S80 because of its price and the fact that I haven't seen many on the road. I have to say, while nothing handles quite like a BMW, I've been pleasantly surprised with this car. It's incredibly comfortable, has all the bells and whistles (including air conditioned seats, navigation, and keyless ignition), and is an absolute joy to drive. Plus, the stereo system is fantastic! I bought this car with 80k miles on it about 16 months ago. Unfortunately, I've had to have it towed 3 times since then. I take great care of my cars, but this one has been a huge letdown. It's disappointing, especially after reading all the positive reviews about it on this website.
