Nissan 370z problems
The Nissan 370Z (known as the Fairlady Z Z34 in Japan) is a 2-door, 2-seater sports car (S-segment in Europe) manufactured by Nissan Motor Company. It was announced on October 29, 2006, and was first shown at an event in Los Angeles ahead of the 2008 Greater LA Auto Show, before being officially unveiled at the show itself. The 370Z is the sixth generation of the Nissan Z-car line, succeeding the 350Z. The 370Z marks the last production car with a naturally aspirated and high-rev V6 coupled to a manual transmission. The 2020 model year was the final model year for the 370Z. The line was continued by the Nissan Z (RZ34) on a modified version of the same platform.

Engineering
Almost every piece and component of the 370Z has been redesigned from the previous 350Z. The wheelbase is 4 in (100 mm) shorter at 100.4 in (2,550 mm) and an overall length 2.7 in (69 mm) shorter at 167.1 in (4,240 mm). The overall width has been increased by 1.3 in (33 mm), the rear track by 2.2 in (56 mm), and overall height reduced by 0.3 in (7.6 mm). The smaller exterior dimensions and use of more lightweight materials helped reduce weight.
The 370Z features a front aluminum subframe, aluminum-alloy engine cradle, aluminum door panels, an all-aluminum hood, and an aluminum hatch. Front body torsional rigidity is improved by 10 percent with an extensively revised body structure, which includes a new front suspension cradle to reduce front body lateral bending, new rear structural reinforcements, and an underbody "V-bar" to help reduce rear lateral bending. Rear body torsional rigidity is improved by up to 22 percent and rear body vertical bending rigidity is improved by up to 30 percent. Additional enhancements include the use of a carbon fiber composite radiator housing and strengthening of the rear fender and hatch areas. The new structure weighs slightly less than the 350Z.
The 370Z uses a front double wishbone suspension, with forged aluminum control arms and steering knuckle. The rear multi-link suspension uses a forged aluminum upper control arm, lower arm and radius rod, the toe control rod is steel and wheel carrier assembly is aluminum. The refreshed 2013 model uses new dampers with the Sport package models. The brakes have been changed from the more expensive Brembo racing brakes to Nissan branded brakes which are manufactured by Akebono.
The coefficient of drag is 0.30 and 0.29 with the Sport Package, figures identical to the 350Z.

Common Nissan 370z problems
Nissan 370Z owners have reported several common problems with their vehicles, ranging from minor inconveniences to significant mechanical issues. Some of these problems include:
- Oil Temperature Issues: Pushing the car can cause the oil temperature to rise significantly, potentially damaging the engine. Some owners have reported temperatures of up to 260 degrees Fahrenheit, which can cause the car to go into limp mode. An external oil cooler can help alleviate this problem.
- Rear Axle Clicking: Over time, the rear axle nut can stretch away from its retainer, causing a clicking noise when turning. If left unaddressed, this can lead to the rear axle slipping from its hub, which can be dangerous. Replacing the old nut and its associated washers and cotter pins with new OEM ones and some extra grease can solve this problem. However, the new nut will eventually stretch and click again. A more permanent solution is to swap out the Nissan part for a Kawasaki castellated (slotted) nut, which won't loosen up like the Nissan part.
- Fuel Starvation: High-mileage Nissan 370Zs can develop fuel starvation problems, especially when driven hard on a racetrack. This issue can be addressed by installing a secondary fuel pump kit or a surge tank with extra pumps. However, these solutions can be expensive and may require professional installation.
- Exhaust and Catalytic Converter Failure: The exhaust and catalytic converter can fail over time, particularly in high-mileage cars. This problem can be costly to fix and may require replacement of these components.
- Blind Spot: The blind spot on the right side of the car can be a problem, particularly when changing lanes. This can be addressed by adjusting the mirror out more, but some owners may choose to install aftermarket blind spot mirrors or other accessories to improve visibility.
- Clutch Rattle: Some owners have reported a clutch rattle when the car is warm. This problem can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn clutch components or loose mounting hardware. In some cases, replacing the clutch or other components may be necessary to fix this problem.
- Paint Chips: The paint on the Nissan 370Z can be prone to chipping, particularly on the side fenders. This problem can be caused by installation issues or normal wear and tear. Keeping the car waxed with a high-quality wax can help protect the paint and prevent further chipping.
In general, the Nissan 370Z is a reliable car if maintained properly. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and consider them when purchasing a used 370Z. A pre-purchase inspection can help identify any potential issues and ensure that the car is in good condition before purchase.
Is a Nissan 370Z reliable?
The Nissan 370Z Reliability Rating is 4.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 23rd out of 36 for compact cars. The average annual repair cost is $504 which means it has lower than average ownership costs.
Do Nissan 370Z have problems?
Premature Clutch Master and Slave Cylinders
If you plan to buy a pre-owned Nissan 370Z that's equipped with a manual transmission, be sure to first have it inspected by an experienced auto mechanic. The transmission's clutch master cylinder (CMC) and concentric slave cylinder (CSC) are prone to failing prematurely.
Is 370Z expensive to maintain?
A Nissan 370Z will cost about $6,157 for maintenance and repairs during its first 10 years of service. This beats the industry average for popular coupe models by $1,266. There is also a 17.36% chance that a 370Z will require a major repair during that time. This is 4.14% better than similar vehicles in this segment.
What is the 370Z known for?

- Summary: Sunday January 7th I came out to my vehicle and noticed my clutch was on the ground. I go to check my clutch fluid reservoir to just to see that it is completely bone dry. Last time I had driven the car,” was on Friday January 5th and everything was fine. I’ve had this problem previously before where if I didn’t drive the car for roughly 2 weeks then my clutch fluid would be empty and I’d have to bleed my clutch. Now it has got to the point where my clutch is on the ground and I can’t get back up no matter how much I try to bleed it. I’ve looked into the issue online only to find out multiply people has the same issue with either the Slave Cylinder or the Master Cylinder to cause their clutch fluid to leak out, some even reported that their clutches started getting damaged as well!

- Summary: On 9/4/2023, both airbags in my daughter’s 2015 Nissan 370-Z violently exploded open erroneously at a stop-sign, when my daughter had, unknowingly, slowly rolled into the protruding hitch of the truck in front of her; the imperceptible impact of which my (driver) daughter and (passenger) son didn’t feel, nor even known had happened (until after they escaped the traumatizing horror). None of the nearby witnesses could noticed the car bump either. From each of the witnesses’ perspectives, they heard a loud explosion come from the 2nd car stopped at a stop sign. Everyone in the vicinity…and patrons & workers who’d run out of the corner store… watched in horror, as “smoke” filled the vehicle immediately. As people began rushing toward the car, my 13 y.o. son DOVE out of the passenger door & rolled several feet…hands clasped to his ears, violently screaming . A gentleman ran toward my daughter’s door, fully prepared to pull her from (what was believed to be) the burning car. Although she was hysterically crying & burned from the chin to the stomach, she was otherwise able to be helped out of the car & walk with assistance to her brother…who had lost all hearing in both ears (for over 15 minutes). It was then that the driver of the truck informed my daughter & helpers of her bump into his hitch. Aside from a small dent in my daughter’s front bumper, there were no other signs of damage from the impact. There WAS, however, a shattered windshield from the passenger airbag. My daughter & son reported that, as the airbags exploded unexpectedly, they were pelted with thousands of stinging particles as the car filled with smoke & smelled like it was on fire. My son dove out of the car as my daughter screamed, “The car is on fire!” Due to bad actor, Dakota McGregor from Nissan, her lies about any known issues or recalls w/the vehicle’s airbags, & her refusal to file a report bc my “kids didn’t die”, we took the $15K hit to repair & Dakota interfered w/the repair co.

- Summary: Steering lock module failure. Same issue as in 2016 (NHTSA tracking number 10929922). Car would not start. In city park and waited 4 hours for tow truck. By myself - 74 year old female. Getting dark and dealership closed. Had the exact part malfunction in 2016 and had to have it towed. Cost $1000 to fix back then. Nissan has had issues with this but has refused to recall it except for one model. This repair cost me $1400. Not just the money or inconvenience - it's dangerous. There is no way to start this car - it has to be towed!

- Summary: Car exhibits behavior detailed in Nissan TSB with classification EC19-011, reference number NTB19-018. Lack of power after engine cold soak. After engine sits for days, or even hours, upon startup, the accelerator is limited to about 5mph and 1500-2000 rpm. Very slow. It does this for about 10 seconds of forward movement with pedal beyond the 5mph threshold, then returns to everything performing like normal. 10 seconds of sitting idle doesn't do it. Unfortunately, those first 10 seconds are usually when pulling out into traffic from a parking lot. Whether from my house, my garage, or from work, it's done this in all these places. Not shopping because the engine doesn't cool down during that time. It did this since new but has become more regular over time. My car is a well cared for summer driver, not driven hard, and only has 6200 miles. Others on Facebook have mentioned this same issue, and the fact that there is a TSB issued says Nissan is aware of the problem, but doesn't consider it a safety risk. I can't tell you how many times I pull into traffic around a blind corner, and someone nearly T-bones me because I'm creeping in front of them. Imagine going from 45mph to 5mph, they're pissed because they think I cut them off, then I go 5mph for 5 more seconds to rub it in. I will get hit one of these days. This is clearly a product quality problem since the resolution in the TSB is to reprogram the ECU, and the risk to safety is existential. If I do get hit, I'd consider a lawsuit in light of the TSB. For the record, I contacted the dealer and also Nissan North America and they both referred me to each other, refusing to cover the reprogramming repair. With or without warranty, this should be recalled and fixed. Seems like only 2019's so far.

- Summary: My 370 Z Nissan was towed January 16, 2018 because of a problem with the electronic steering mechanism. The mileage at that time was 35,357 miles. Upon entering the car the steering wheel had locked and I could not start my car. Fortunately the car was in the garage at the time. total for repairs was $949 On March 29, 2018 a few months following with mileage at 35,857 miles I again experienced a steering lock problem and the car had to be towed once again …the repairs were covered at that time by warranty since this device was already replaced in January. December 9, 2021 I again experienced a problem with the steering lock mechanism mileage is 42,505 at this point on the car repairs were almost $1800 I find this a huge safety problem because I am a female and could be stranded at any time at any given place with a vehicle that wont operate…. This does concern me as I do travel out of town alone at times. I also drive at night from time to time . I did ask that the mechanism be disabled and was told by the mechanic at Nissan they were not allowed to disable the mechanism. My husband spoke with consumer affairs at Nissan and they were not willing to help us with this problem. I have considered selling the car but I’m not comfortable doing so without disclosing this problem to a potential buyer. My husband I researched this issue online and it appears that many people have experienced the same issue with their 370 Z vehicles

- Date Of Incident: 2021-04-12
- Date Complaint: 2021-05-28
- VIN: JN1AZ4EH8HM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The seal on the Clutch Slave Cylinder failed and contaminated the hydraulic system in the car. This prevented the car from being able to enter gear as the clutch could not be disengaged. This resulted in me being stuck in the middle of the road, unable to move the car unless I turned the car off, stuck it in gear, then started it up and gunned the engine at the same time. My car is a 2017, with only 31,000 miles on it. The dealership would not cover it under the power train warranty despite the fact that the CSC is located within the transmission casing and is an intrinsic part of the power train. Hydraulic cylinders are not a wear item. This should not happen at 31,000 miles. Nissan was no help and only recommendation was Service Bulletin SB-10051926-2342, which recommends swapping the clutch fluid for a higher temperature fluid. This only solved the problem for about a week before the Concentric Slave Cylinder failed completely. There is currently a lawsuit, Nguyen vs. Nissan North America, going through federal courts that in the process of discovery revealed through internal emails Nissan is aware that this failure is a result of a design flaw which makes it particularly susceptible to the kind of high temperatures developed inside the transmission. Please force Nissan to recall these parts. Its not right to have to pay 2000 dollars every other year to replace hydraulic cylinders in lightly used cars.

- Summary: THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON ON THE DASH. CAR IS 10 YEARS OLD, BUT ONLY HAS 24073 MILES ON IT. NISSAN DEALER IDENTIFIED ERROR CODE B1018. OCCUPANT SENSOR IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT FAILED. NISSAN QUOTED $4767 TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SEAT BASE ASSEMBLY. STATED SENSOR WAS INTEGRATED INTO THE SEAT AND COULD NOT BE REPLACED WITHOUT REPLACING THE ENTIRE SEAT CUSHION. IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT NISSAN HAD A "VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN" FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE ON THE 2007-2008 NISSAN 350Z. NISSAN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08-095D IS GERMANE. THE PROBLEM IS DESCRIBED AS A FAILED OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM VARISTOR IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION. THIS IS A SENSOR THAT LETS THE CAR KNOW WHETHER OR NOT AN AIRBAG SHOULD FIRE, DEPENDING ON WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THAT SEAT. DID NISSAN EVER CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE? I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, (CASE 42872979), BUT THEY WERE NO ASSISTANCE (ONLY STATING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY). THIS IS A SAFETY ITEM THAT, IN MY OPINION, NISSAN SHOULD WARRANTY FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE, OR AT A MINIMUM ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE SAME COMPONENT ON THE PRIOR MODEL (350Z). THE SRS LIGHT COMES ON ON THE DASH, AND BLINKS INTERMITTENTLY. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT NEAR THE PASSENGER SEAT STAYS PERMANENTLY LIT. IN VIRGINIA (WHERE I LIVE), YOU CANNOT PASS STATE SAFETY INSPECTION WITH THE BLINKING SRS LIGHT ON YOUR DASHBOARD DISPLAY. HAS TO BE FIXED. I REPAIRED THE ISSUE MYSELF BY ACQUIRING A SECOND HAND (USED) SEAT. HOWEVER, AS I PREVIOUSLY STATED, NISSAN SHOULD PAY FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT THEY PREVIOUSLY ACKNOWLEDGED IN THE TECH SERVICE BULLETIN (FAULTY OCCUPANT SENSOR), BUT APPARENTLY HAVE NOT FIXED.

I HAVE SPOKEN WITH MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WITH A DIRECT EMPLOYEE OF NISSAN AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT AND BODY STRUCTURE OF THE PASSENGER. WHEN I AM IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OF THIS VEHICLE THE AIRBAG TURNS OFF. I AM 5'4" AND WEIGH APPROXIMATELY 115 POUNDS.. NISSAN DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS A PROBLEM. I AM BEING TOLD THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING CORRECTLY. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE AND CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS IS ACCEPTABLE UNDER LAW. AT THIS POINT NISSAN IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE REVIEWED WHAT I CAN FIND ON YOUR WEBSITE AND FEEL THAT THIS IS SOMETHING WHICH IS BROKEN OR DOES NOT FOLLOW THE REQUIREMENTS OF LAW. I WOULD LIKE YOUR FEEDBACK CONCERNING THIS.

Vehicle year: 2019
I have purchased four of these cars so far, which should give you an idea of how highly I think of them. I bought this latest model sight unseen, based on my positive experiences with previous models, and it has been a great experience so far (only 2 months). As someone who only needs to transport themselves and a briefcase, a 2-seater is ideal for my basic commuting needs. All of the Z models I have owned have been nimble and quick, including the 300ZX. In terms of a direct comparison, I recently traded in my 350Z for the 370Z. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a resale value of $7500 for my ten-year-old 350Z. Overall, my experience with the 370Z has been the best yet. While the 350Z was made to be faster with a lighter push on the accelerator, the 370Z is the quickest yet. It accelerates less quickly with the same amount of pedal travel, but about halfway down, it becomes clearly quicker than the 350Z. Flooring it really shows how much quicker it is from 0 to 40 or so, although it is also a lot louder. The steering is very precise, but the steering wheel moves with a very light touch, making it easier to handle than any past Z models. The interior feels very similar to the 350Z, with a few upgrades. The manual seat fits me like a glove, and there is a much better layout of storage areas. The 370Z has a glovebox and rear storage areas, which the 350Z lacked. Unfortunately, the interior lights are all regular incandescents, which I dislike because they can drain the battery if left on. I replaced five of them with LED lights, which I found for a few bucks on Amazon. Initially, I was unhappy about paying for the upgraded Bose stereo in the sport package (since there was no choice if I wanted the larger brakes and viscous slip differential). However, I must say that it sounds better than I expected and better than the Bose stereo that came with past Z models. But the Z is still a great car, even though it may not be as good as some of the premium systems in the BMW 335 or the Grand Cherokee. Personally, I love the muscular and aggressive look of the exterior, especially now that they've gotten rid of the shark tooth front. The LED running lights are also a nice touch. While there may not be many Zs on the road, I don't mind at all. In fact, I prefer it that way. I think it's crazy to spend $100k on a car when you can get a great car like the Z for only $34k. The brakes are much better than past models, especially on the sport model with larger discs. However, the rear visibility is not great and there is a pretty big blind spot on the two rears. If you have trouble looking over your shoulder, this may not be the best choice for you. But overall, the Z is an unqualified bargain. I'm already looking forward to the next model, whether it's the 390Z or the 400Z. Update: After owning this car for 2 years, I've noticed one issue with the accelerator pedal. There's a It's really funny that at those speeds I just switch to manual mode and shift it myself. I wish they could reprogram this. Unfortunately, my dealer doesn't seem to know what I'm talking about. Nonetheless, I still like this car, and keeping it in manual shifting will make it more enjoyable.

This is my 3rd 370Z, and I'm buying another one (2019) to change things up. I believe in the saying 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', but I'm excited to try something new. I'm getting a decked-out 370 Nismo. In my opinion, these cars are the best deals in sports cars. They're affordable, reliable, and offer over-the-top performance. It's an absolute pleasure to drive them!

This is my 3rd Z and the BEST one. I had a 1991 and a 1994 300z but this is an awesome improvement. I look forward to driving it every day. It is a very fast and good-looking car that handles well and can move when you want it to. I highly recommend it!

There are many positive aspects to these vehicles, although it's important to note that as a true sports car, there isn't much cargo room. One thing to keep in mind is the initial clutch engagement, which has a very high friction point and a small window from friction point to full engagement. However, there is a simple and affordable solution to this issue: replacing the OEM clutch helper spring. Alternatively, a new clutch assembly can be installed to make it feel like any other car you've driven.

I've owned two 370 Z's, a Sport and a Nismo Tech, and I'm amazed that anyone who doesn't need a back seat doesn't drive one (or hire a babysitter). These cars are truly amazing. I have a 120-mile daily commute in Colorado and Wyoming and drive my Z year-round (with winter tires from October through March) and I actually look forward to my commute every single day. I've driven in blizzards and 80mph gusts and with the snow tires on, it's not even a challenge (although I don't recommend the base model for winter driving as there is no limited slip diff). The 370 Z is absolutely amazing and the value you get for the price (sport around 32k) seems like a steal. If you have the money, the Nismo is worth it (it's so much more than just a few extra HP). I gave the car a 4/5 overall rating only because many people looking for a If you're considering this tiny unapologetic driver's car, it's important to keep in mind that cargo space is limited and even glove box and console space is at a premium. The car has no back seat and the enormous tires/wheel wells and stabilizer bar eat up much of the back hatch storage. There is only one small cup holder, which can be a bit cumbersome when you have your best girl (or guy) in the car with you. Getting in and out of the car can require a bit of human origami at times, as its stance and seating positions are quite low (as a sports car should be). However, despite these minor inconveniences, I find the car extremely comfortable with plenty of headroom (I am 6 foot tall), and the seats (once you're in them) are the most comfortable I've ever sat in (Nissan sport bucket or Ricaro racing depending upon your trim package). Pedal placement is perfect. The steering is on the heavy side, but in the very best way - with excellent feedback, quality material feel and mounted controls. Many reviews call the design

The 2010 model with every option-touring sport nav auto may seem like a great value on paper, but in reality, it falls short. The fuel system is not designed properly, causing it to run out of gas while showing 1/4 left and stall during hard right turns. Additionally, the tires are poor in rain and only last 10k miles. To improve handling, the rear tires should be up to 285 and replaced with Hankook Ventus tires. In Texas, the oil temperatures routinely exceed 240 f, which is concerning. Despite these issues, Nissan NA has been unhelpful in resolving them. Lastly, the paint is soft.

I really like the design of the car, but I'm having trouble understanding why the manual transmission can't be shifted more smoothly. It seems like missing just a couple hundred revs causes a lot of drive line clamors. I traded in my Z4 for this car because I didn't want to pay the $20M premium for the new Z4, but I have to say that the BMW manual was much quieter and more forgiving if rev match wasn't perfect. I've been driving manuals for 55 years, and I've never had one that was so difficult to master.

Before making a purchase, I would suggest test driving this car for at least a day. The seats may not be the most comfortable and can cause some jostling when driving over bumps in the road, which can lead to back discomfort on longer drives. Unfortunately, I had some trouble getting the seats fixed and Nissan was unable to assist. Overall, I would recommend exploring other options before making a final decision.

Hello! I wanted to share my experience with my 2014 car. Unfortunately, I have encountered a minor paint issue that has become a bit of a nightmare. The clear coat is separating from the paint, which has caused a frosty pattern in some areas and bubbling in others. I reached out to Nissan for assistance, but they have not been able to help me yet. They suggested that rain may have caused the issue, but I have never experienced this problem with any of my previous cars. Overall, this has been a frustrating experience and I hope to find a solution soon.

I bought my Nissan 2009 370Z Car on February 26, 2009. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with it. When the ambient temperature is over 90 degrees, I have to be careful not to drive it over 4000 RPM's, which has limited my driving to only 630 miles so far. It seems that the 370Z Car can overheat without an engine oil cooler, causing the engine oil temperature to reach 280 degrees in a short period of time. This can cause the car's engine RPM's to be reduced from 7500 RPM's to 6500 RPM's, and if the engine oil temperature reaches 290 degrees, the engine's RPM's will be reduced to 4500 RPM's, which is approximately half of the 370Z Horsepower!
