2019 Mitsubishi Outlander sport problems
The Mitsubishi Outlander (Japanese: 三菱・アウトランダー, Hepburn: Mitsubishi Autorandā) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors since 2001. It was originally known as the Mitsubishi Airtrek (Japanese: 三菱・エアトレック, Hepburn: Mitsubishi Eatorekku) when it was introduced in Japan.
The original Airtrek name was chosen to "describe the vehicle's ability to transport its passengers on adventure-packed journeys in a 'free-as-a-bird' manner", and was "coined from Air and Trek to express the idea of footloose, adventure-filled motoring pleasure." The Outlander nameplate which replaced it evoked a "feeling of journeying to distant, unexplored lands in search of adventure."
The second generation of the vehicle was introduced in 2006 and all markets including Japan adopted the Outlander name, although production of the older version continued in parallel. It was built on the company's GS platform, and used various engines developed by Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, and PSA Peugeot Citroën. PSA's Citroën C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007, which were manufactured by Mitsubishi in Japan, are badge engineered versions of the second generation Outlander. Global sales achieved the 1.5 million unit milestone in October 2016, 15 years after its market launch.
As part of the third generation line-up, Mitsubishi launched in January 2013 a plug-in hybrid model called Outlander PHEV. As of January 2022, global sales totaled about 300,000 units, and according to JATO Dynamics, the Outlander PHEV is the world's all-time best selling plug-in hybrid since December 2018. As of 2019, Europe is the leading market with over 126,000 units sold through January 2019, and the Outlander plug-in hybrid listed as Europe's best-selling plug-in hybrid car for five years running, 2015 to 2019.
The fourth-generation model was released 2021. Following Mitsubishi's entry to Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, the fourth-generation Outlander is based on the Rogue/X-Trail, which is built on the CMF-CD platform.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-02
- VIN: JA4AP3AUXKU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I bought this car used less than 30 days ago. It had 21362 miles on it. It made a weird nose when putting it into drive. Thought it might be a heatshield. Took it to a mitsubishi dealership for an outstanding recall. Ask them to check underneath. The exhaust pipe was rusted out. 3000 dollars to repair. The dealership didn't believe it cost that much so they used a mechanic they new to fix the issue 10/15/2024. We are not impressed with that repair. It seems the exhaust is not covered under the extended warranty. We feel that mitsubishi should cover this because they do have a warranty of 5-6 years for the exhaust system. A car with this low mileage should not already have the exhaust rusted out.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM

- Number Of Injuries: 1
- VIN: JA4AZ3A38KZ
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I was approaching my car and used my keyfob to open the trunk. As it was opening, I was thankfully facing away from the trunk when the rod from the right tailgate lift support flew off, hitting me in my shoulder blade. It sounded like a gunshot. While there was no puncture, due to my thick t shirt and the rod hitting the bone of my right shoulder blade, the pain was severe. Before I realized it was the tailgate support strut, i genuinely thought I had been shot, due to the sound and the pain. Had I been facing my car, the rod would've gone through my face. Had it hit my eye, I indubitably would have lost that eye or my eyesight. There was no warning. I have never experienced anything out of the ordinary with my trunk door or the mechanisms to lift it. This easily could've severely injured me or someone else, or damaged property significantly. Upon inspection visually, the non-threaded end of the rod appears to have snapped off. The hydraulics were so strong that the 5mm thick metal snapped in half within milliseconds. I have an appointment at the Mitsubishi dealership where I got the car to get to the root cause. They confirmed over the phone that my car is too new to have tailgate lift support failure.

- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: I AM A RIDESHARE DRIVER. ON FRIDAY, APRIL 23, 2021 PASSENGERS BEGAN TO COMPLAIN THAT THE RIGHT-SIDE SEAT BELT (ON THE 2ND ROW OF SEATS) WOULD NOT FASTEN. AFTER ARRANGING FOR PEOPLE TO MOVE AROUND TO THE OTHER SIDE (LEFT-HAND SEAT) FOR A WHILE, I FINALLY QUIT DRIVING TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE MYSELF. AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE BUCKLE, I GAVE UP AND STARTED CALLING AROUND FOR THE PART--BUT COULD NOT FIND IT. FINALLY I NOTICED A RECALL NOTICE ONLINE FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE IN 2014-2019 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDERS. ON MONDAY (APRIL 26) I CALLED SCOTT ELDER MITSUBISHI IN CEDAR PARK, TEXAS TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR, BUT WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THEY ALSO DID NOT HAVE THE PART AND COULD NOT OBTAIN ONE FOR AT LEAST A WEEK. I THEN CALLED THE MANUFACTURER DIRECTLY TO LEARN WHY MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED FOR THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT IS A 2019 AND HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME A SATISFACTORY ANSWER, NOR ANY ALTERNATIVE RECOURSE TO RESOLVE MY ISSUE. AS STATED ABOVE, I AM A RIDESHARE DRIVER. I CANNOT DO MY JOB WITH AN UNUSABLE SEAT BELT. SWITCHING PASSENGERS TO THE OTHER SEAT WON'T ALWAYS WORK BECAUSE I OFTEN PICK UP 3 OR MORE PASSENGERS. EACH DAY I AM WITHOUT THE USE OF THE VEHICLE FOR WORK IS COSTING ME $250-$300 PER DAY (NOT COUNTING BONUSES).

Positive 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander sport car reviews

I recently purchased a 2018 Mitsubishi GT Premium in Octane Blue and I have absolutely no regrets. Previously, I owned a 2014 SE model which had a 2L engine and lacked power. However, the 2018 GT with its 2.4L engine is perfect for its size and provides great power. Despite reading many negative reviews about the Mitsubishi RVR, I am left wondering why. I particularly love the manual control for AWD with differential lock. This compact SUV is perfect for small families and the ground clearance is impressive. The only area for improvement would be the road noise.

Congratulations on your purchase of the 2019 Outlander Sport LE 2.0 Auto AWC! It's great to hear that you've noticed some improvement in the transmission as it learns your driving habits. With over 7000 miles on the clock, it sounds like you're really enjoying your SUV. However, I understand that the cargo size may be a bit small for your needs. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Ergonomics - have you ever wondered what it feels like to be behind the wheel? With Japanese engineering, everything is exactly where it should be - from the arm rests to the cupholders and volume knob. The storage space under the armrest even has a 12v output that stays powered after the car is turned off, so you can keep your earpods, vape batteries, or whatever else charging while you sleep. It's the minor details that make this car the best. I've taken it on 1000 mile road trips and it feels just as at home on the road as it does in town.

Great warranty, good gas mileage, and fun to drive. It's solid on the road, although there is a bit more road noise than I would like.
-
A ton of car for the money ... closest thing to the Suzuki I traded in. Everything works perfectly and the mpg is very good. Test drive one yourself ... you won't be disappointed.
Jerome Bergstrom 2024-11-04
The transmission went out at 75,000 miles. I only had it for a year and a half, but I did regular maintenance.
Christian Heidenreich 2024-09-12
This vehicle may not be the highest quality, but it serves its purpose as a spare second vehicle with ground clearance and AWD. While it may not have the smoothest ride or the most luxurious fit and finish, it is a great option for those who are looking for an SUV in the low $20's and aren't too picky about quality, comfort or resale. If you're on a budget and looking for a reliable option, this could be the perfect fit for you. However, if you're looking for something more high-end, you may want to consider other options. Overall, this vehicle is a good choice for those who prioritize affordability and practicality over luxury and comfort.

I purchased a 2018 Outlander Sport for $23,000 out the door, but unfortunately, I regret the decision. The car rides rough and only gets 18 mpg in the city, despite the advertised 23 mpg. Additionally, there is not much storage space in the car, and the paint is already peeling on the back bumper. I also accidentally bumped the side door, causing a dent. On the positive side, the car has Bluetooth capabilities, although it requires a cell phone to use the navigation. I later found out that there was a $5,000 rebate available for this car. Overall, I don't plan on keeping this car past this year.
Franz Doyle 2024-04-08
After 3 years, unfortunately, the alternator has stopped working. Additionally, the tires have developed dry rot, despite being only 4 years old. It seems that all 4 tires need to be replaced. It's worth noting that the car has not yet reached 50 thousand miles. Lastly, the aluminum rims are not the best quality.
Brent Kuphal 2024-03-25
The Mitsubishi 4-cylinder motor has a fuel consumption similar to a V6, but unfortunately lacks power. The interior is a combination of cheap plastic materials (found on the steering wheel, dash, seats, etc.) and some attention to detail, such as the shifting knob. It would be a great car if it had more power. However, the depreciation rate is high, and it may not resell well. The most annoying thing is the remote control - you need to press 'Open' twice to open the passenger's door, as pressing it once will only open the driver's door, accompanied by an annoying horn noise. Despite these issues, the Mitsubishi dealer was happy to take my old car as a trade-in. Now, I am looking for a car that I really want and will trade in my Outlander Sport (which is not very sporty).
