Common 2012 Porsche Panamera problems
The Porsche Panamera, a luxury sedan produced by the German automaker, has been known to have several common problems, particularly in its early years. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues:
- Blinding Dashboard Glare: Porsche has a glaring problem according to a lawsuit filed by two California residents. The duo claims Porsche's beige-colored dashboards produce a dangerous amount of glare on the windshields. Owners have noticed coolant leaking from the thermostat housing, intake manifold, water pump, and busted coolant pipes. After being sued 8 times, Porsche reluctantly agreed to a settlement for some owners.
- Oil Leaks: Particularly in the earlier models, the Panamera has been known to suffer from oil leaks in the engine.
- Coolant Leaks: Some owners have reported coolant leaks leading to overheating if not addressed.
- Transmission Issues: The first-generation Panamera could experience transmission problems, such as rough shifting.
- Electronic Malfunctions: Issues with electronic systems, including PCM, navigation, and entertainment features, have been a cause for concern.
- Auxiliary Coolant Pump: The Panamera is known to have problems with the auxiliary coolant pump and can experience an engine overheating problem at low revs.
- Spoiler Function: The rear spoiler system has been one of the most hated items due to its strange behavior.
- PCM 3.1 Freezing: The PCM 3.1 unit can freeze, causing issues with the car's navigation and entertainment features .
- Air Suspension: The air suspension system can cause problems, particularly in early models .
While these issues have been reported, it is worth noting that many of them have been rectified in later models, and they are often considered minor compared to the overall performance and luxury offered by the vehicle. Regular maintenance and careful selection of the model year can ensure a satisfying and reliable ownership experience.
Are Porsche Panamera 2012 reliable?
I owned a Porsche Panamera 4 from 2012 to 2020. It was very reliable and never let me down. Just drove it and gave it routine service — oil changes and tires etc. The service from the dealer is not cheap but the car is very reliable.

Negative 2012 Porsche Panamera car reviews
Positive 2012 Porsche Panamera car reviews

I picked up my Panamera on a sunny late afternoon in Carlsbad CA and drove home as the sun set over the Pacific. The car captured my heart quickly! The interior is sumptuous. My car has black leather with anthracite birch wood, and it is unreal! Accelerating to pass, the Panamera is awesome as it tracks flawlessly, and you will not believe the acceleration. When I pulled in to gas up, every car fan couldn't wait to see the vehicle! I traded in a Bentley Flying Spur and never looked back. If you are considering the Panamera, please know you won't be disappointed!
-
This is an excellent car, period. The sheer volume of technology in this vehicle is astounding, its performance is superb and its styling is elegant and timeless. This is my ninth Porsche and, by far, the best I have owned over the past two decades. I was initially a little skeptical about buying a four seat Porsche despite my longstanding experience that anything Porsche either designs or builds is usually excellent. And, but for a five minute test drive two weeks before my car came in last November, I had not spent a lot of time in the vehicle. However, when I took delivery of the car I was immediately impressed by its pick-up and handling. Fast and beautiful, Porsche does it again.
-
I just wanted to say congratulations on your new 2014 Panamera 4! It's great to hear that you're loving the vehicle and that it's the best one you've ever owned. The performance and style are exceptional, and it's wonderful that you're enjoying the exclusivity of it all.
-
The car is absolutely terrific! I recently got a 4s (yachting blue) after a long wait. Although the styling may be controversial, the car is simply stunning - and even more so in person! I've had multiple people stop me to ask about it - you have to see it for yourself. The interior is fantastic and the car drives unbelievably well. As someone who has owned a 911 6-speed and loves cars, I found it to be too small, especially for a family, and felt unsafe around ubiquitous giant SUVs. However, with this Porsche, it really feels like you're driving a Porsche in a way that a Cayenne never could. Additionally, the hatchback is super convenient. In a purist's world, Porsche would only make 911s, but in the real world of being a father/family man who also wants a great car, this is beyond compare!
-
The early reviews that ridiculed the Panamera external styling were way off base. However, I must say that there are some color combinations that would be less than flattering. Nonetheless, I've had at least twenty strangers approach me to compliment the looks of the car (dark blue ext. natural tones interior). More importantly, the performance is mind-boggling, and the comfort features are extremely refined. Multiple driving modes change the car's performance personality at the touch of a button. All in all, it's close to perfect!

I was shocked when the parking position suddenly shifted to reverse, but thankfully I was able to stop the car just in time. This is a serious safety concern that needs to be addressed.

Hey there! Sorry to hear about your experience with your Porsche. It sounds like you've had a tough time with unscheduled engine repairs, including a defective valve cover solenoid and other engine and non-engine components. That can definitely be frustrating and expensive. I hope you're able to find a solution that works for you. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I took possession of my Panamera in March of '10. Unfortunately, there was a strange noise coming from the engine right after delivery. Despite the master tech at Porsche stating that nothing was wrong, I kept insisting that something was off. Finally, the North American Porsche tech took a look and confirmed that a new transmission was needed. This past Friday, the engine failed and I brought it in to the Porsche dealer. They stated that they could look at it in a couple of weeks, which was a bit concerning. As someone who has owned 7 Series BMW's since '96, I have never experienced service with such an attitude before. While the car looks great and drives extremely well, I am seriously concerned about the engineering. Perhaps this model was pushed out too quickly or the techs were not properly trained to service it?
