2017 Mitsubishi Mirage g4 problems

mitsubishi logo

The Mitsubishi Mirage is a range of cars produced by the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi from 1978 until 2003 and again since 2012. The hatchback models produced between 1978 and 2003 were classified as subcompact cars, while the sedan and station wagon models, marketed prominently as the Mitsubishi Lancer, were the compact offerings. The liftback introduced in 1988 complemented the sedan as an additional compact offering, and the coupé of 1991 fitted in with the subcompact range. The current Mirage model is a subcompact hatchback and sedan and it replaces the Mitsubishi Colt sold between 2002 and 2012.

Nameplate history

The Mirage has a complicated marketing history, with a varied and much convoluted naming convention that differed substantially depending on the market. Mitsubishi used the Mirage name for all five generations in Japan, with all but the first series badged as such in the United States. However, other markets often utilized the name Mitsubishi Colt and sedan variants of the Mirage have been widely sold as the Mitsubishi Lancer—including in Japan where the two retailed alongside one another. In Japan, the Mirage was sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza.

In the United States and Canada, the first four generations were sold through a venture with Chrysler as the Dodge Colt and the similar Plymouth-badged Champ and Colt. Later, the venture brought the Eagle Vista and Summit branded models which sold alongside the aforementioned. Confusingly, Chrysler has also offered an unrelated Dodge Lancer at various stages between the 1950s and 1980s. However, when DaimlerChrysler briefly controlled Mitsubishi through the DaimlerChrysler-Mitsubishi alliance from 2000 through to 2004, the license to the "Lancer" name was relinquished to Mitsubishi for usage in North America. Thus, after the fifth and final generation Mirage, replacement models in North America have adopted the new name.

Mitsubishi introduced replacements for the fifth series of Mirage, starting in 2000 with a new generation of Lancer—now larger, having moved up to the compact segment. Then in 2002, a subcompact five-door hatchback badged Colt globally became available. By 2003, the Mirage and its derivatives had been completely phased out of mainstream Japanese production. For the 2002-era Colt's replacement in 2012, Mitsubishi decided to resurrect the Mirage name internationally for a new sixth generation model.

With the rising popularity of boxy subcompact SUVs in Japan, the Mirage nameplate was used on a domestic market-only model called the Mirage Dingo, from 1999. The Dingo was facelifted in 2001 and canceled in 2003. However, New Zealand sold a very different Mirage from 2002—a rebadged Dutch-manufactured Mitsubishi Space Star labeled Mirage Space Star. This vehicle was not very popular and was discontinued in 2003.

Common 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage g4 problems

The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners.

Another common problem is with the vehicle's airbags. There have been several reports of airbags not deploying in severe frontal impacts. This issue is especially dangerous because there are no diagnoses that can find this problem other than fault codes stored in the airbag control module. This can be caused by an airbag wire harness that has shorted, which can be difficult to diagnose and repair.

The 2017 Mirage can also experience intermittent stalling due to a faulty engine control module (ECM). The cost of replacing an ECM can be around $1,000 or more, which can be a significant expense for owners.

In addition to these issues, some owners of the 2017 Mirage G4 have reported problems with the electrical system. Some have experienced the car completely shutting off for a short time after driving and then returning to life. This can be caused by bad battery contacts, a faulty ignition switch, or other electrical issues. It is recommended to check the battery connections, ignition switch, and other electrical components to diagnose and repair this issue.

The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage has also been reported to have poor predicted reliability, sluggish acceleration, a low-quality interior, and mediocre safety ratings. These issues can affect the overall driving experience and safety of the vehicle.

In conclusion, the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 has several common problems that can affect the vehicle's performance, reliability, and safety. These issues include front brake wear, airbag deployment, intermittent stalling, and electrical problems. It is important for owners to be aware of these issues and to have them repaired promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-04-04
  • VIN: ML32F3FJ6HH
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN DRIVING OVER ROUGH ROAD, OR AFTER AN ABRUPT POTHOLE, ALL ELECTRONICS IN THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF. AFTER ABOUT FIVE MINUTES A RESET WILL START AND, EVEN THOUGH I'M STILL DRIVING, ALL THE DASH LIGHTS AND TEST WILL GO THROUGH THE CYCLE USUALLY RESERVED FOR WHEN I START THE CAR. IF I HAPPEN TO TURN OFF THE CAR WHILE IT IS IN THIS SORT OF OUTAGE, IT WILL REQUIRE A JUMP TO START. THE RADIO WILL FORGET ITS STATIONS, AND THE CLOCK WILL NEED TO HAVE THE TIME SET AGAIN. I HAVE TRIED MY OWN REMEDIES (LIKE JIGGLING THE FUSE BOX (WHICH DOES NOT SEEM WELL ATTACHED), AND WIGGLING WIRES) TRYING TO TRACK DOWN THE PROBELM WITH NO SUCCESS. MY PRIVATE MECHANIC SAYS THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS IN OTHER MIRAGES AND NEVER FOUND THE CAUSE. IT ONLY HAPPENS ABOUT A SECOND AFTER A LARGE BUMP OR HEAVY REPEATED VIBRATIONS. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED (FROM ENTERPRISE RENTALS), HAVE OWNED IT ABOUT A YEAR, AND IT HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES. THANK YOU FOR THE GOOD WORK YOU DO. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

Negative 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage g4 car reviews

  1. Joey Johnson 2024-11-29

Maybe because the particular car I was given had sat in a warehouse for an undetermined amount of time, but I am not thrilled with this car in the least. It is quite loud, and the engine, however good on gas mileage it is, makes a lot of noise. All the time. It feels like the car is going to explode when you accelerate. It has some pep to it once you've reached freeway speeds, but it's not the best for overtaking maneuvers or getting onto the freeway. The engine is quite loud, so you may need to turn up the volume on your stereo to drown it out. Speaking of the radio, it turns off without warning. Having the car for 7 months, I've figured out that it doesn't like being hot - you can't park it somewhere on a warm day or in direct sunlight and expect the radio to turn on when you return to your car. If you are out running errands, let's say you go to the gas station, then the grocery store, then pick up your kids, then go to a park, by the 3rd time you turn the ignition, the radio will not come on. It's dead for hours. In addition to that, the gas gauge isn't accurate. I've filled the tank up on numerous occasions and watched 20-40 miles disappear on the digital display after driving less than ten miles total. I don't feel safe in this car, it's like driving a soda can. There are better cars available for the money.

  2. Axel Tillman 2024-04-29

This car reminds me of a 1999 Dodge Neon. If the paint starts chipping and flaking off the roof, I'll edit it. But that's really the best way to describe this car. It has the same plastic interior, engine sound, and cramped driver space as a 16-year-old Neon. However, there are three good things about this car: the price, the gas mileage, and the warranty. It's better than walking, taking the bus, or calling Uber or Lyft to get around. Something tells me I should have saved more money or waited until tax return time to get a better car, but for my situation, it's what I had to get. I didn't think about how it'll drive in the snow if it's a bad winter, but we'll see. This is a good first car for someone who is definitely not speeding around in it.

Positive 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage g4 car reviews

  1. Weston Greenfelder 2024-10-29

For the value, features, room, economy, overall great warranty, and not to mention price, this car can't be beat. I have the top of the line SE edition and it answers all my needs. I'm happy I bought it.

  2. Freddie King 2024-10-14

I wasn't a fan of Mitsubishi before purchasing one, but I got a great deal. Although the engine and cabin noise can be loud and it struggles uphill, it offers great reliability options and gas mileage. I find it perfect for stop-and-go and short commutes. However, if you take a lot of long trips, it may become uncomfortable. The SE version is particularly nice with its touchscreen, Bluetooth, and digital climate control. Additionally, the trunk is spacious for a small car. I recently had to replace a tire, which was a bit challenging to find for the SE model, but not impossible. It's worth noting that the ES model has different tires. While most people can hear me fine on the Bluetooth, some have trouble hearing me over the cabin noise, although this is rare.

  3. Jeramy Lemke 2024-08-27

I recently purchased a 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE CVT in Wine Red on 2/13/17 and I absolutely love it! I traded in my 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage ES CVT with Navigation and the updates on the 2017 model are extensive. The interior has so many upgrades, such as seat fabric material, interior piano trim, seat support, sound insulation, new gauge cluster, new steering wheel, new audio unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 4 more horsepower and a new roller camshaft, new suspension updates, smoother idle, fender insulation, heated seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, wide-angle rearview camera (G4), rear fold-down armrest with cup holders, and even the way the shifter feels going into gear is much smoother. The updates are amazing and make this car feel more substantial. I opted for the Light Gray interior, which adds a level of class to the interior. I also added a center console armrest, color-keyed bodyside moldings, side fender turn signals to go with side mirror turn signals, chrome exhaust tip, extra piano black trim around the center console and air vents, chrome trim, all Mitsubishi Parts. I also added weather tech mats and got my windows tinted 20%, and it looks so nice. The room inside the G4 is unreal, it's huge, and the trunk is cavernous! I also love the dark chrome alloy wheels and matching front grill. This paint color (Wine Red) is so unique and classy looking. I had no issues with my 2015 and only traded for the upgrades and the deal I got on this 2017 Top Trim G4 SE. It was $18,115.00, but I got it for $12,714.00 at Renn Kirby Mitsubishi in Frederick MD. My sales guy, Tommy Moberly, was awesome! He responded to all my texts and emails fast, even after hours. If you do stop in to Renn Kirby, you need to see him. We purchased 2 vehicles from him and could not be happier! We absolutely love our 2016 Outlander Sport GT and 2017 Mirage G4 SE!!! While driving in town, the ride is much quieter and takes bumps with less of a thud, and the idle is 50% smoother and quieter. The seats feel extra comfortable and the material is definitely of a higher quality. I absolutely love the Apple Car Play feature and I must commend Mitsubishi for including it! Keep up the fantastic work Mitsubishi, because I am thoroughly impressed with the updated 2017 model! I wouldn't drive anything other than a Mitsubishi and I will only purchase from Tommy Moverly at Renn Kirby! The Mirages are truly amazing little cars and my coworker has been driving hers for almost 3 years now and she loves it just as much as I do. They are fun, reliable, have a unique 3 cylinder engine, get awesome mpg and are packed with features. The prices with rebates and sales are unbeatable.
