Common 1993 Isuzu Rodeo problems
The Isuzu Rodeo, produced from 1990 to 2004, is known for its reliability and off-road capabilities. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. This article will focus on the 1993 Isuzu Rodeo and its most frequently reported issues.
- Engine-Related Problems
The Isuzu Rodeo's 3.2-liter V6 engine is known to consume large amounts of motor oil, which can lead to a lack of oil lubrication and permanent engine damage.
- Fuel Gauge Sender Failure
Another common issue reported by Isuzu Rodeo owners is the failure of the fuel gauge sender. This issue is often caused by a faulty fuel level sensor or a broken float arm. A solution to this problem is to replace the fuel gauge sender with a new one.
- Oil Leaks
The Isuzu Rodeo is prone to oil leaks, which can be caused by worn gaskets, loose oil pan bolts, or a cracked oil filter adapter. To resolve this issue, it is necessary to identify the source of the leak and replace the faulty component.
- ABS System Failure
Some Isuzu Rodeo owners may experience issues with the ABS system, which can be caused by a faulty wheel speed sensor or a damaged ABS control module. A solution to this issue is to replace the faulty component or repair the damaged wiring.
- Fuel System Issues
Many owners of the second generation Isuzu Rodeo (1998-2004) reported issues with the vehicle's fuel system, including rough idling, stalling, or hesitation when accelerating. This issue is often caused by a faulty fuel pressure regulator or fuel injector, which can lead to poor fuel economy and drivability issues. In some cases, a complete fuel system cleaning or replacement is necessary.
- Electrical System Issues
Owners of the second generation Isuzu Rodeo also reported issues with the vehicle's electrical system, including problems with power windows, door locks, and other electrical components. These issues can be caused by faulty wiring or connectors and may require replacement or repair.
- Suspension and Steering Issues
Many owners of the second generation Isuzu Rodeo reported issues with the vehicle's suspension and steering, including clunking or rattling noises when driving over bumps and power steering system leaks or failures.
In conclusion, the Isuzu Rodeo has several common issues, primarily related to the engine, fuel system, electrical system, suspension, and steering. While these issues can be costly to repair, they can be resolved with the help of a knowledgeable mechanic and quality replacement parts. Regular maintenance and addressing issues promptly can help ensure the Isuzu Rodeo remains a reliable SUV for years to come.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-01-25
- VIN: 4S2CY58V7P4
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: I HAVE A 1993 ISUZU RODEO THAT STARTED LEAKING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL ONTO THE MANIFOLD. I FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS A VALVE COVER GASKET SEAL AND REPLACED IT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS COMING FROM THE REAR CAMSHAFT MOUNT/SEAL AREA. I LOOKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS AND THERE WAS, BECAUSE IT WAS SO UNUSUAL. TO MY SURPRISE THOUGH THE RECALL DOESN'T COVER MY VIN, ALTHOUGH IT IS EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR. IS THERE ANY WAY TO HAVE MY VEHICLE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THANKS. *JB

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2006-01-27
- VIN: 4S2CY58V5P4
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: THIS COMPLAINT CONCERNS THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID #94V132000 WHICH IS FOR A RECALL ON 1993 ISUZU RODEOS. I CALLED AN ISUZU DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA AND TOLD THEM 1993 ISUZU RODEO IS HAVING THE PROBLEMS DESCRIBED BY THE RECALL. THEY SAID MY VIN # WAS NOT COVERED. HOWEVER, I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL SUMMARY: CONSTANT EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION OF THE CYLINDER HEAD CAUSES THE CAMSHAFT SEAL END PLUG CAN BECOME DISLODGED FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD. THIS ALLOWS OIL TO LEAK FROM THE CAMSHAFT. OIL IS LEAKING FROM MY CAR AND HAS BEEN FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THIS HAS CAUSED ENGINE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. AND IT IS CAUSING OIL TO LEAK ONTO THE HOT EXHAUST SYSTEM, WHICH AS STATED IN THE RECALL CAN CAUSE AN ENGINE FIRE. I'M NOT SURE WHY MY VIN # IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL , BUT I'D LIKE TO FIND OUT SINCE MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. MY VIN # IS [XXX]. PLEASE CONTACT ME AT THE PHONE # OR E-MAIL ADDRESS LISTED. THANK YOU. *AK UPDATED 07/17/2012 *JS INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2000-08-30
- VIN: 4S2CY58V8P4
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: MY ENGINE JUST "DIED" IN AUGUST 2000. BEST CHEVROLET AND ISUZU IN HINGHAM MA SAID THAT I NEEDED A NEW OR REBUILT ENGINE. I HAVE TAKEN EXTREMELY GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 1993. I DID NOT WANT A REBUILT AND VERY NICELY, BUT FIRMLY, ASKED THAT THEY COVER IT AND GIVE ME A BRAND NEW ENGINE, TO WHICH ISUZU CORP. AND THE DEALER AGREED IF I PAID FOR THE LABOR COSTS OF INSTALLING IT. I THOUGHT THIS SOUNDED FAIR AT THE TIME, SO I AGREED. I HAVE RECENTLY LEARNED THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUED IN JULY 1994 AND I WAS NEVER INFORMED BY ISUZU CORPORATION OR THE DEALER! I COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM OF "WHITE SMOKE" BLOWING OUT THE EXHAUST ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS OVER THE YEARS AND HAVE IT IN WRITING (FOR THE MECHANICS TO INVESTIGATE) ON ALL MY RECEIPTS. THIS PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED, YET THEY KEPT CHARGING ME FOR "LOOKING INTO IT" -- A $100. HERE, $200. THERE. I ALSO ASKED THEM TO SAVE THE OLD ENGINE AFTER THE BRAND NEW ONE WAS INSTALLED AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DO THAT AS THEY HAD TO "TURN IT IN." (I'VE SINCE LEARNED THIS VIOLATES MASS. LAW) AT THE TIME, I TOLD HIM THAT DOESN'T MAKE SINCE. WHY WOULD THEY HAVE TO TURN IN AN OLD, NON WORKING ENGINE TO GET A NEW ONE?!? MY BROTHER, ADAM HOOVER, WAS A WITNESS TO THIS CONVERSATION. ALSO, SINCE THEN, I'VE LEARNED THAT WHEN A REBUILT ENGINE IS PURCHASED, THE DEALER TURNS IN THE OLD ONE FOR THE "CORE." I PAID OVER $3500. SUPPOSEDLY FOR LABOR COSTS! I WAS BLATANTLY RIPPED OFF AND I WANT TO GET MY MONEY BACK. THIS VEHICLE STILL BLOWS WHITE SMOKE AND I FEEL IT'S A TICKING TIME BOMB WAITING TO GO OFF! I'M AFRAID THE ENGINE IS GOING TO BLOW AGAIN. THANKS.

Bought new, changed out a couple of alternators, and finally at 205k, blew a head gasket. Other than that, only regular maintenance. Don't underestimate the 2.6-liter 4-cylinder engine, she runs forever!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with this car. I bought it back in 1993 and it has been an absolute gem ever since. It's been incredibly reliable and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great car. The 4wd system is hands down the best I have ever driven, and it has been a wonderful roomy family car as well. Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts!
-
I really appreciate my Rodeo so much that I'm actually looking for a second one. I've had very few issues with it and I believe it's one of the most dependable cars I've ever owned.
-
When you first bought this car, you loved it, and you still love it now. It is definitely one of the best SUVs of its time. You have only experienced very minor problems over the years. One of them was the freeze plugs rusting, but your son fixed it in his autoshop class for only $5. The engine now has 176k miles on it, and it still runs like it did when you drove it off the lot.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it brand new back in '93 and it's been a great ride ever since. I did have one issue with the engine at 105,000 miles, which required a new valve train on one side, but other than that, it's been smooth sailing. Thanks for listening!

Our car has been with us for six years and it's still going strong with 84,000 miles on it! The maintenance hasn't been too bad, except for that one recall that we had to pay for, which cost us around 400 dollars. We also had the timing belt and brakes replaced. Although it's not a sports car, I do wish it would accelerate a bit faster. Despite that, we're planning on keeping it until it finally gives up on us. Thanks for reading!

I've been driving this car for 9 years and I plan to keep driving it until the wheels fall off, which could be another nine years! It's been great for commuting to work and hauling stuff around, and it's only needed routine maintenance.
