The Mazda RX-8 is a sports car manufactured by Japanese automobile manufacturer Mazda between 2003 and 2012. It was first shown in 2001 at the North American International Auto Show. It is the direct successor to the RX-7. Like its predecessors in the RX range, it is powered by a rotary Wankel engine. The RX-8 was available for the 2003 model year in most parts of the world.

The Mazda RX-8 utilizes a rotary Wankel engine, and the non-reciprocating piston engine uses a triangular rotor inside a near oval housing, producing from 141 kW (189 hp) and 164 lb⋅ft (222 N⋅m) of torque, to 177 kW (237 hp) and 159 lb⋅ft (216 N⋅m) of torque from launch. A myriad of various drivetrains are available in the Mazda RX-8.

The RX-8 was discontinued for the 2012 model year without a successor. It was removed earlier from the European market in 2010 after the car failed to meet emissions standards. Due to falling sales from Europe coupled with rising Yen prices, Mazda could not justify the continued sale of the RX-8 in other markets. 192,094 units were produced during its 9-year production run.

JOE MACHENS TOLD ME TO REMOVE THE BATTERY. A NEW LITHIUM BATTERY IS BEING DEVELOPED BY MAZDA BECAUSE ROTARY ENGINES CAN'T USE A REGULAR BATTERY. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR SIX WEEKS LAST YEAR, AUGUST, AND KEPT YELLING THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE NEW, CORRECT PARTS. UNFORTUNATELY, THERE ARE NO MAZDA DEALER SHOPS IN KOREA, SO I ASKED TO MAZDA USA TO SEND THE PARTS VIA THE MAIL TO REPLACE BAD PARTS FOR MY CAR. HOWEVER, THEY REJECTED MY REQUESTS AND THEY SAID ONLY MAZDA (CERTIFIED) MECHANIC SHOULD COMPLETE THE REPAIRS. I AM WONDERING IF I CAN SOLVE THESE SERIOUS SAFETY RECALL ISSUES. THE VEHICLE ORIGINALLY BELONGED TO MAZDA BOMMARITO AS EVIDENCED BY THE FADED RESIDUAL IMPRINT OF THE BOMMARITO LETTERING THAT HAD BEEM REMOVED LIKELY DUE TO BEING UNWANTED INVENTORY. I KNEW AHEAD OF TIME THAT THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAS A ROTARY ENGINE THAT REQUIRES STANDARD MAINTENANCE AND CARE WHICH I HAVE BEEN PERFORMING AND DOCUMENTING ALONG WITH ALL RECALLS. THESE INCLUDE- LET THE ENGINE WARM UP, REGULARLY TOPPED OFF ALL FLUIDS DECARBED AND CLEANED SENSORS ETC INTERNAL MAINTENANCE CARE/BREAK IN PERIOD AND REPLACED SPARK PLUGS/ LEADS WITH FACTORY GENUINE OEM FIRST HAND. AFTER OWNING IT LESS THAN A YEAR, WITH ONLY 50K MILES ON IT, IT BEGAN TO RUN VERY POORLY. I HAD THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND HAVE DOCUMENTATION AND RECORDS OF WORK FROM SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS, SHOPS AND OFFICIAL MAZDA DEALERSHIP(BOMMARITO WHERE IT WAS ORIGINALLY TRANSPORTED FROM TO THE NEIGHBORING DEALER) IM PAYING $8,000 FOR AT IT AND DROVE IT FOR LESS THAN A YEAR AND IN SPITE OF REGULAR UPKEEP IT LOST COMPRESSION IN ITS REAR ROTOR. II HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NOTICE FROM MAZDA THAT COVERS ROTARY ENGINE CORE REPLACEMENTS. HOWEVER SINCE ITS "USED" IT MIGHT NOT BE COVERED BY MY STATES LEMON LAW. THERE ARE 1000'S OF OWNERS DEALING WITH THE SAME ISSUES ON BEHALF OF MAZDA. I MAILED THE SUBSEQUENT OWNERSHIP NOTIFICATION TO THE MAZDA IMPORTER TO TRANSFER THE RECORDS OF THE PREVIOUS OWNERS ON A LEASE PURCHASE WHICH I HAVE DOCUMENTATION OF ALTHOUGH THE DEALER WOULD NOT GIVE ME ANY INFO ABOUT THE COUPES HISTROY WHICH SEEMS DISHONEST.. Mazda is also recalling 2005-2006 MPV vehicles in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these passenger air bag inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
  • Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy is performed. Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began July 6, 2018. Mailing to the affected RX-8 owners began July 6, 2019. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, option 4. Mazda's number for this recall is 2618F.     I experienced significant issues with my 2004 RX8 car, including frequent breakdowns and the need for a new motor at only 12000 miles. The car would vibrate and shake violently, and I was afraid it would leave me stranded. Additionally, it had a tendency to flood itself, which was very frustrating. Despite my initial attraction to the car's appearance, I ultimately found it to be the worst car I have ever owned. However, I was able to resolve the issue with the help of an attorney, and Mazda ultimately bought the car back as it was deemed a lemon.

Although you had to replace the tires with snow tires, it's great that you're prepared for winter in the Midwest. It's also fantastic that the warranty covered the alternator replacement at no cost to you. The car's fuel economy of about 19 MPH combined Hwy, City is reasonable. While the rear quarter view is restricted, it's still acceptable. I'm happy to hear that you find the car fun to drive, and that you have the option of automatic or manual shifting. The interior is roomy and comfortable, even for someone who is 6'2

    In my opinion, the RX-8 is an exceptional sports car that offers great value for money. Despite having a firm ride, it still manages to be comfortable, making it an ideal long-distance cruiser. With spirited yet legal driving, I am able to achieve a combined city/highway fuel economy of 20 mpg. By using 4 oz synthetic 2-cycle oil and 4 oz Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube in every 10 gallons of gas, I have been able to achieve better mileage than most. The rotary engine is responsive and with proper care, it runs smoothly. A mechanic at the dealer even complimented on how smooth it runs. While the off-the-line acceleration may not be the strongest, once you get the revs up to 5000 rpm, it becomes a winner. If you drive the rotary engine correctly (at high rpm), you will definitely enjoy the experience!

    The Mazda RX8 is such a blast to drive and I'm really looking forward to enjoying it for the next year or two. I just wanted to give potential buyers a heads up on a few things that you might not know until you actually own one. Firstly, the tires aren't great on snow or ice, so it's definitely worth investing in some snow tires. Secondly, it's important to let the engine warm up to normal operating temperature, even if you're just moving it a few feet. Lastly, there's no spare tire (unless you're willing to sacrifice your trunk space). But if you can handle these minor issues, I highly recommend getting one and enjoying it as much as I have!

    I confidently purchased the lil red sedoupe (sedan,coupe) as an answer to my mid-life crisis, instead of a used luxury sedan. At 47 years old, with no wife or kids, it made perfect sense. I have only owned SUVs/Mini Vans since the disco era, but I was ready for a change. Although the standard 17-inch tires produced some ride noise and the rear light housing was fogged up, I was able to negotiate a great deal and purchased the car for only $11K. With only 37K miles, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. Despite the challenge of getting in and out with my 275lb frame, the car has been an excellent incentive for me to lose weight. I have received nothing but compliments from friends and co-workers and have experienced no problems in the first 30 days.
