2012 Mazda Mazda5 problems
The Mazda Premacy (Japanese: マツダ・プレマシー, Hepburn: Matsuda Puremashī) is a passenger minivan that was built by the Japanese manufacturer Mazda from 1999 to 2018.
The first generation Premacy was built in Japan and exported to Europe and Asia. A rebadged version was sold by Ford in a few Asian markets (including Japan) as the Ford Ixion or Ixion MAV.
The second generation onward is sold outside Japan as the Mazda5. Ford Lio Ho in Taiwan, which assembles Mazda5 for the local market, adapted a re-badged version as the Ford i-Max from 2007 until 2011.
The first generation Premacy was a two- or three-row, five- or seven-passenger vehicle, while the second generation adds a third row of seats for up to six passengers in American form, and seven passengers outside the United States. Both generations feature near-flat floors, folding or removable second row, and fold-flat rear seats.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-10
- VIN: JM1CW2DL4C0
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: This vehicle ejects a significant amount of fuel from its fuel filler port during every refueling. The volume of fuel and the distance the gasoline travels in a hazardous environment poses an avoidable risk that can result in a catastrophic event with potential fatalities. In addition, the cumulative quantity of fuel needlessly spilled negatively impacts the environment at a time of heightened environmental concerns. For these reasons, this known issue should be elevated from a simple technical service bulletin (#01-013-15-3048) to a safety recall before fatalities result from a known manufacturing defect.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-08-11
- VIN: JM1CW2BL2C0
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: During July of 2021 brake pedal went all the way down with no braking. Pumping the pedal restored braking. After the 3rd incident, had the master cylinder replaced on July 30, 2021 by certified mechanics. Brakes seemed fine, but on Aug 11, 2021 brake pedal went all the way down producing no braking on 3 occasions. Pumping the pedal restored braking. Took vehicle back to garage. Mechanics have not gotten it to fail. Possible new parts are bad? Could anti lock brake system cause this? Its been a really good car for 155,000 miles, but now I'm afraid to drive it.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-01
- VIN: jm1cw2bl8c0
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The Mazda5 has a TSB on the issue, 01-013/15. What I am attempting to find out is why this isn't a recall. When the failure occurs, the fuelling of the vehicle doesn't shut off the nozzle. What happens is fuel comes spraying out of the opening, getting over the ground, the vehicle, and in most cases the person fueling the vehicle. My vehicle has been dong this almost since new. When I reported it early on, Mazda blamed the fuel pumps in my area. The next time I went in I presented the TSB but they still wanted me to pay for diagnostic procedures and even potentially for the repair. I think that's ridiculous. From what I understand, it's very common, common enough to have a TSB. Since it does cause environmental issues and safety issues by splashing gasoline on skin, clothing, and potentially could be ignited, well, why isn't this a recall? I do find the TSB to be carefully worded to specifically NOT say what actually happens, making it look like an inconvenience and not a safety issue. ****Video of what happens is available upon request.****

What a fantastic little van! It drives just like a small sedan. Although it may not have a lot of cargo space with the seats up, it would be perfect for a small family.
-
This has been a great car.
-
I love little blue! She kept 5 little ones safe in car seats, ranging from 1 to 5 years old! And she also transported middle school age kids to the occasional wrestling meet, even though it was a tight fit. I also love that I can lay the back seats down and take my beach cruiser for a ride. It's pretty good on mileage too. Even though it only has 4 cylinders, I feel it really picks up speed fast - zoom, zoom!
-
This is the coolest vehicle I've ever driven around! The acceleration is amazing, and the handling is top-notch. Plus, it looks fantastic - as good as a Lexus! The ride is exquisite, and it handles like a sports car. The two sliding rear second doors are a great feature, perfect for loading fishing tackle or groceries - or even kids! I'm single, so I don't have to worry about that usually, but the 6-speed manual is so much fun to drive, and it's got a lot of power. You'll be at 50 mph in a flash! I can't think of anything I don't like about this vehicle - it's five-star all the way. Plus, it's good on gas!

I purchased my 2012 Mazda 5 in February 2013 with only 10 miles on the odometer. It was a significant upgrade from my '96 Corolla, which had 166K miles and a fuel economy of 27/34 mpg. Although I was initially disappointed with the Mazda's fuel economy of 24mpg, I was pleased with the extra room it provided. As someone who prefers SUVs to mini-vans, I found the Mazda's size and body style to be more in line with the Rav4 & CRV that I had considered, but at a better price and with better fuel economy. While I do wish the mileage was better and that there was a larger covered center console, I ultimately chose the Mazda over the new CX-5 because the bench seat didn't fold flat and the front 'racing' seats were hard and uncomfortable. Every time I drive my ZoomZoom, I discover something new that I like about it.

You'll love the good gas mileage and ample cargo space, and the third row seat is a real lifesaver. While there is quite a bit of road noise, it's still better than having to listen to the 'sound system' (two cans and a string). The seats are made of a unique material that unfortunately retains stains, but overall they're still comfortable.

It's been almost a year and 10.5k miles since I got this car. There are definitely some things I like about it, but if I had the chance, I would trade it in. My previous car was an '05 Outback, which had its fair share of problems over 100k miles, but I loved it from the start. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about my current car. I chose it because it has enough space to fit an adult in the backseat with our two little kids, but we only really need that on long trips, which only happen twice a year. Although the 5 was fine with winter tires in last year's very mild winter, I do miss having AWD. Something about it just feels a bit cheap. After 10k miles, one of the sliding doors has started to rattle at slow speeds, which is a bit disappointing.

We chose this model after renting one for a cross country road trip. During that time, I threw out my back but still drove for hours in relative comfort. This car was fine for getting around town and great for long road trips in good weather when we lived at a lower, warmer elevation. However, when we moved to the mountains and experienced snow, we learned that this car is not suitable for snowy conditions despite being front-wheel drive. As someone originally from Minnesota who has owned many cars, I can confidently say that this was the worst winter car I have ever driven. In fact, my wife ended up sliding off the road and totaling it with new all-season tires on it (we had just taken off the snow tires that only helped minimally anyway) when there was just an inch of snow on the ground. Additionally, it is not a very powerful vehicle. However, it was dependable. Overall, I wouldn't buy another one.
