Mazda Mazda5 problems

The Mazda Premacy (Japanese: マツダ・プレマシー, Hepburn: Matsuda Puremashī) is a passenger minivan that was built by the Japanese manufacturer Mazda from 1999 to 2018.
The first generation Premacy was built in Japan and exported to Europe and Asia. A rebadged version was sold by Ford in a few Asian markets (including Japan) as the Ford Ixion or Ixion MAV.
The second generation onward is sold outside Japan as the Mazda5. Ford Lio Ho in Taiwan, which assembles Mazda5 for the local market, adapted a re-badged version as the Ford i-Max from 2007 until 2011.
The first generation Premacy was a two- or three-row, five- or seven-passenger vehicle, while the second generation adds a third row of seats for up to six passengers in American form, and seven passengers outside the United States. Both generations feature near-flat floors, folding or removable second row, and fold-flat rear seats.

Common Mazda Mazda5 problems
Common Problems with Mazda Mazda5 Cars:
One of the most common issues with the Mazda5 is a rattling noise coming from the front suspension, which is often caused by worn-out sway bar bushings. These bushings, which connect the sway bar to the vehicle's frame, can deteriorate over time due to wear and tear, leading to a rattling noise, especially when driving over bumps or turning. Replacing the worn-out sway bar bushings can resolve this issue and restore the smoothness of the ride.
- Shock Absorber Failure
Another common problem with the Mazda5 is shock absorber failure, which can cause the car to feel jerky or rough from the rear and knock when driving over speed bumps. This issue can be identified by checking for leaks underneath the back of the car. If the shock absorbers are leaking, they will need to be replaced to restore the vehicle's ride quality.
- DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) Clogging
The DPF, a device that filters out harmful diesel particulate matter, can become clogged on the Mazda5, leading to a warning light on the dashboard. This issue is more likely to occur when the car is only used for short journeys, as the DPF does not have a chance to get hot enough to burn off unwanted particles. To resolve this issue, the car should be driven at around 40 mph for 10-15 minutes in third gear to allow the DPF to heat up and burn off the particles. If the warning light remains on, the DPF may need to be manually cleaned.
- Suspension Problems
Some Mazda5 owners have reported hearing a knocking noise coming from the front suspension when driving over speed bumps or poorly surfaced roads. This issue can be caused by faulty lower front suspension arms or the front anti-roll bar bushes. To resolve this issue, the faulty part must be identified and replaced. Replacing the anti-roll bar bushes is generally the cheaper option.
- Engine Overheating
Engine overheating is another common problem with the Mazda5. If the warning light comes on or if there is steam coming out of the car's hood, the car should be pulled over immediately, and the engine should be allowed to cool down. Common causes of engine overheating include low coolant levels, a faulty thermostat, or a damaged radiator. It is essential to address this issue promptly, as continued driving with an overheated engine can lead to severe damage.
In conclusion, while the Mazda5 is generally a reliable vehicle, these common issues can arise due to wear and tear or other factors. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these problems and ensure the vehicle's longevity and safety.
What is the most common problem with the Mazda5?
Here are a few common issues Mazda5 vehicles experience: Air conditioning troubles. Slipping clutches. Transmission failure.
How long do Mazda5 engines last?
Mazda vehicles are known for lasting over a decade and between 200,000 and 250,000 miles, with some going even longer than that. The key to a long-lasting Mazda vehicle is to keep it running with proper maintenance and regular service.
Is the Mazda5 a good car?
Nimble and agile handling means it doesn't sacrifice being fun-to-drive either. Further, antilock brakes, traction control, and electronic stability control are standard. Still, there are some downsides. The four-cylinder engine can be overtaxed on hills, or with a full load.
What is the best year for a Mazda5?
Overall, the Mazda5 is a decent car if you're looking for a compact vehicle with the ability to weave through the city while providing enough room inside. We recommend going with the 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, or 2015 options for the best results in the long term.

We absolutely adore our Mazda 5 with the 6-speed! After switching from our manual Subaru Wagon to a full-size mini-van when we had two kids, we eventually came back down to the 5. As manual transmission enthusiasts, this was our only option, but we couldn't be happier with it. It's sporty, fun, and has plenty of room for our two kids. While it could use a little more power, we prefer driving a slow car fast. The gas mileage is fantastic, and despite the factory tires, it's quite comfortable. Although we would have liked a more loaded version, giving up the extras was worth it for the 3 rows and stick shift. We even contacted Mazda and asked if they would build us a Grand Touring with a 6-speed if we put down a large deposit, but unfortunately, they said no! :-(

It's great to hear that your 5 has been so reliable and economical to operate! With almost 100K miles on it, it's impressive that it's been able to keep up with your family of 5, including 3 young girls. Although it may be a little tight for the several road trips you've taken, it's wonderful that a rooftop box has been able to solve the space problem. It's also impressive that you've been able to achieve such good fuel economy, ranging from 23 in town to 30 on the highway (driving at 70 without cargo box), with an overall average of 25 mpg, usually with 3 kids inside. Keep up the good work!

I absolutely love my car! I traded in my Suburban for a sporty mom car and paid $15,000 out the door for the basic sport model. It has been incredibly reliable, with only the front struts needing replacement and the usual maintenance of oil and tranny fluid flush, and of course, tires. Speaking of which, quality tires that are rotated religiously can last up to 2 years. I added after-market racks and a cargo box for the top, which has been a lifesaver for my family of 5, especially on long road trips. Even with 6 people on a 14-hour drive to AZ, the car performed great and we were all comfortable. The back row was surprisingly comfy, even for my 13-year-old son and me at 5'5Other than tire wear, which can be a pain and costly, the car has been great!

I bought my 2013 Mazda5 Sport used in November 2013 with only 6K miles on it. Since then, I have been driving 350 miles per day doing a delivery route and I am happy to report that I have had absolutely no problems with it. The car is simply built to last! I make sure to replace the oil every 5K, transmission fluid every 60K, brake fluid every 60K, coolant every 90K, PS fluid every 90K, plugs every 90K, and fuel induction cleaning every 90K. Despite the high mileage, the original engine and transmission still run great. I am also pleased to report that I still average 29.2 mpg, which is even better than the car's rated 28 mpg highway. In fact, I am so satisfied with this car that I will definitely buy another one if this one ever gives up.

After reading several reviews on the Mazda 5, I noticed some concerns about shocks, struts, and tire wear. However, I bought my 2009 Mazda 5 and immediately changed the tires to 215/50 ZR17 (which changed the speedometer by 1 mph). This gave me a much smoother ride. I also installed top-of-the-line Bilstein shocks and struts. I'm currently at 38K on the tires with about 50% tread left, and they are wearing evenly with normal tire rotations and two alignments. Other than the normal recommended service, I have had no issues with the car. I purchased it with 88K from the original owner who had all service records (including 3 sets of tires and shocks). I now have 130K on the car and it has been great. I commute 80 miles daily.

Hi there! Just wanted to share that I'm only 5 ft. tall, so I usually prefer driving vans or jeeps for a better view while driving. That's why I fell in love with this minivan for several reasons: Firstly, it has the best height adjustment I've found for a manual. Secondly, the visual field for the driver is great. Thirdly, all six seats are fine for me. Fourthly, the handling feels good. Fifthly, there's not much road noise. Sixthly, it has better mileage than a Grand Caravan. And lastly, the middle row seats can slide by 6 inches. Overall, I'm really happy with my choice! :)

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2008 Mazda5 that I bought used a couple of years ago. Overall, it's been a pretty decent car with good interior space and gas mileage. Unfortunately, the AT light recently came on and I had to take it to our local mechanic. After some inspection, it turns out that the car needs a new transmission. I reached out to both the local Mazda dealership and Mazda US to see if they could offer any help, but unfortunately, they were unable to provide any discounted parts or assistance. While I'm disappointed that the transmission failed at only 65,000 miles, I understand that these things can happen. Despite this setback, I still think the Mazda5 is a great car and would recommend it to others. Thanks for listening!

Your car started out great, but as the miles added up, you noticed some areas that could use improvement. Firstly, oil changes can be a bit of a hassle due to the 7 10mm bolts required to remove the splash panel and access the oil filter. Secondly, the rear wheels come with negative camber from the factory, which can cause the inside of your tires to wear out prematurely and make them unsafe after only 25,000-30,000 miles. Thirdly, the electric locks can be unreliable and may fail from time to time. Lastly, finding replacement parts (such as cv boots and axles) for this fairly new model can be a challenge, but with some persistence, you can find aftermarket options that won't break the bank like the dealer's markup. Overall, your car has some quirks, but with a little patience and effort, you can keep it running smoothly.

This car has a great interior layout and various seating options that work well with our children. The dual sliding doors are a great feature as we don't have to worry about the children opening their doors and hitting another car. Additionally, it has great gas mileage. While we did have to replace all 4 tires at 18,000 miles and the bushings needed to be replaced due to squeaking, these were minor issues. Unfortunately, we experienced a sudden loss of power steering while driving down the street after 2 years of ownership. However, we recommend checking out the TSB regarding steering. Overall, this car is a reliable and efficient choice for families.
