2013 Mazda Mazda5 problems

The Mazda Premacy (Japanese: マツダ・プレマシー, Hepburn: Matsuda Puremashī) is a passenger minivan that was built by the Japanese manufacturer Mazda from 1999 to 2018.
The first generation Premacy was built in Japan and exported to Europe and Asia. A rebadged version was sold by Ford in a few Asian markets (including Japan) as the Ford Ixion or Ixion MAV.
The second generation onward is sold outside Japan as the Mazda5. Ford Lio Ho in Taiwan, which assembles Mazda5 for the local market, adapted a re-badged version as the Ford i-Max from 2007 until 2011.
The first generation Premacy was a two- or three-row, five- or seven-passenger vehicle, while the second generation adds a third row of seats for up to six passengers in American form, and seven passengers outside the United States. Both generations feature near-flat floors, folding or removable second row, and fold-flat rear seats.

IT ALSO JERKS WHEN IN DRIVE BUT NOT APPLYING THE GAS, THEN REVS WITH NO WARNING. NO CHECK ENGINE OR OTHER LIGHTS ARE COMING ON. I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL MAZDA FORUMS AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING ISSUE WTH THIS VEHICLE. HOWEVER, MY CAR'S ENGINE IS CONSTANTLY REVVED UP EVEN WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AN SLOWING DOWN CAUSING IT TO JERK FORWARD. THIS OCCURS SUDDENLY AND RANDOMLY WHEN I AM GOING AT SPEEDS BELOW 20 MPH INCLUDING WHILE ON IDLE. IF I NEITHER APPLY THE BRAKES NOR THE ACCELERATOR, IT WILL STILL DRIVE FORWARD AT 3 MPH IN RHYTHMIC JERKY WAVES. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALER FOR A KEY REPLACEMENT WHEN WE FIRST PURCHASED IT, AND I BELIEVE WE REPORTED THE PROBLEM THERE FIRST, BUT AFTER THE RIDICULOUS SERVICE WE GOT, I NEVER WANTED TO RETURN THERE AGAIN. THE LIGHT HAS COME ON WHILE I HAVE DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 55 MPH FOR NO APPARENT REASON...ON A STRAIGHT-AWAY. THE PAST TWO DAYS IT HAS GONE OFF AND ON AT LEAST THREE TIMES, AGAIN FOR NO GOOD REASON. THE VERY FIRST TIME I NOTICED THE LIGHT WAS A HOT, SUMMER DAY, BUT THE CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING WITH THE AIR ON. THINKING SOMETHING OVERHEATED, I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND HAD TO WAIT 45 MINUTES BEFORE THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2012 Grand Touring Mazda5! It sounds like it's a quick and nimble car that seats six people comfortably. Even though it's not the fastest car, it still provides ample pickup. You mentioned that you do 70% of your driving on the highway and 30% in the city, and you're averaging about 25mpg, which is great! The seats provide good support and decent legroom, and the heating and A/C are good. The fit and finish of the car is excellent, and opening and closing the sliding doors is a breeze. The interior is well laid out, although the headliner and visors feel somewhat cheap. The seating is fine for four adults and two children, although space beyond the third seat is limited. Overall, it sounds like an excellent vehicle for the money, and I would definitely recommend it. The biggest plus is that it's fun to drive! I'm glad you were able to get a great deal through truecars.com.

Hi there! My wife and I spent a whole month searching for a replacement for our aging Odyssey. We were looking for something with better gas mileage, room for 6, and the best value for our money, all while staying in the low to mid $20k range. Finally, we found the perfect fit with the Mazda 5. It was the first car we test drove and the one we ended up buying. We also considered other options like the RAV-4 with 3rd row, Sedona with 3rd row, Dodge Journey, Odyssey, Traverse, Equinox, and more.

We've been driving our Mazda5 for about 10 months now, and it has been a lifesaver for our family with two young daughters. The car seats, strollers, diaper bags, and all the other bulky kid stuff fit in the Mazda 5 without any issues. What's more, it's an absolute joy to drive! It's easy to forget that you're driving a vehicle with sliding doors. Loading the girls into the back seat is a breeze, and once they start opening the doors themselves, I don't have to worry about them denting another car in the parking lot. The Mazda5 is the perfect size for a family of four, and the extra seats are a great option. In mostly city driving, I get about 25-26 mpg, and on longer trips, it gets over 30 mpg. My best is over 35 mpg. Overall, we couldn't be happier with our Mazda5!

I've owned 6 or 7 cars since high school, and each one holds a special place in my heart. But my 5? That's a different story. I chose this car because it was unique. It looked like nothing else on the road and had the utility of a minivan but drove like a sedan. The space is really comfortable, but if you're a bigger person in either height or weight, it may be a little snug. (I'm 5'7'' and about 165 lbs, and I think someone 6' could fit comfortably in the front.) The further back you go, the tighter it gets, but as a family of 3 with a dog, we find it perfect. The front four seats are captain's chairs, and the back row has been down for us since about mid-2013! One of the only problems with captain's chairs is that you can't stretch out, so it's something to consider for whomever is not sitting up front. I think this microvan is perfect for a family of 4 with a pet (or 5 without a pet). I bought the 5 in late 2011 (it had been released a couple of months early), and it now has 202,000 miles on it. The best part is that I admittedly don't do my maintenance as much as I should, so I miss oil changes and haven't replaced spark plugs... yet, it still has over 200k miles and is not missing a beat. The moral of the story is that this is a brilliantly constructed vehicle that is highly reliable. If you're looking at the 2012, I suggest getting it, especially if it's for a teen with a new license or a car to do local errands or a small business that needs something cheap but reliable. I have truly loved the 5 and am upset with Mazda for discontinuing it, but I don't think Americans really know what to do with non-traditional vehicles like the Asian and European markets. It's a great car gone too soon!

Having a newborn and a 4-year-old can be challenging when it comes to finding a car that can accommodate five passengers, especially with two car seats already taking up space. We had a Civic and an Outback Wagon, and we struggled to find a vehicle that could carry an extra passenger. We searched for options and found that the market was limited. We considered the standard Odyssey/Sienna and even the RAV4 with a tiny back bench, but they didn't quite fit our needs. Then we discovered the 5, and we were blown away! It comfortably fits six passengers, drives like a sporty sedan, and can fit in the tightest spots. Although it looks small on the outside, it's surprisingly roomy inside. We absolutely love it!

It's been almost a year and 10.5k miles since I got this car. There are definitely some things I like about it, but if I had the chance, I would trade it in. My previous car was an '05 Outback, which had its fair share of problems over 100k miles, but I loved it from the start. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about my current car. I chose it because it has enough space to fit an adult in the backseat with our two little kids, but we only really need that on long trips, which only happen twice a year. Although the 5 was fine with winter tires in last year's very mild winter, I do miss having AWD. Something about it just feels a bit cheap. After 10k miles, one of the sliding doors has started to rattle at slow speeds, which is a bit disappointing.
Shaun Hudson 2024-06-27
You'll love the good gas mileage and ample cargo space, and the third row seat is a real lifesaver. While there is quite a bit of road noise, it's still better than having to listen to the 'sound system' (two cans and a string). The seats are made of a unique material that unfortunately retains stains, but overall they're still comfortable.

We chose this model after renting one for a cross country road trip. During that time, I threw out my back but still drove for hours in relative comfort. This car was fine for getting around town and great for long road trips in good weather when we lived at a lower, warmer elevation. However, we later moved to the mountains where we experienced snow and learned that this car is not suitable for snowy conditions despite being front-wheel drive. As someone originally from Minnesota who has owned many cars, I can confidently say that this was by far the worst winter car I have ever driven. In fact, my wife finally ended up sliding off the road and totaling it with new all-season tires on it (we had just taken off the snow tires that only helped minimally anyway) when there was just an inch of snow on the ground. Additionally, it is not a very powerful vehicle. However, it was dependable. It was just also dependably terrible in snow. I wouldn't buy another one.
Jeremy Mayer 2024-01-26
Although the price was reasonable, it unfortunately doesn't quite replace a van. Once you put up the third row, there is barely any space left for storage. We purchased this vehicle to replace our T&C because we wanted better gas mileage while still being able to accommodate four kids. While it can hold four kids, it doesn't leave any room for a stroller or shopping bags. It is designed for either occasional back row seating or as a four-seater with trunk space.
