Mazda Mazda3 2010 problems
The Mazda3 (known as the Mazda Axela in Japan (first three generations), a combination of "accelerate" and "excellent") is a compact car manufactured by Mazda. It was first introduced in 2003 as a 2004 model, replacing the Familia/323/Protegé in the C-segment.
The second-generation Mazda3 for the 2009 model year was unveiled in late 2008, with the sedan premiering at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the hatchback at the Bologna Motor Show. For the 2012 model year, Mazda began offering the Mazda3 with their newly developed Skyactiv technology, including a more rigid body, a new direct-injection engine, and a new 6-speed transmission.
The third generation was introduced in mid-2013 as a 2014 model year. The third-generation model is the first Mazda3 to adopt the "Kodo" design language and a more complete Skyactiv range of technologies.
The fourth-generation Mazda3 for the 2019 model year was unveiled in November 2018 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. For the 2019 model, the all-new Mazda3 is equipped with the updated Skyactiv technologies, including a spark-controlled compression ignition engine marketed as the Skyactiv-X.
A performance-oriented version of the Mazda3 was marketed until 2013 as the Mazdaspeed3 in North America, Mazdaspeed Axela in Japan, and the Mazda3 MPS in Europe and Australia.
The Mazda3 became one of Mazda's fastest-selling vehicles, with cumulative sales in January 2019 of over 6 million units.

I was told I had to return on 7/24/2023. Did that. Appt was 7:30AM. Was given a loaner car. At around 10:30 Am Mazda Tuenersville called to ask me to return the loaner (?). When I arrived Pat Kearny told me he couldn’t do anything to help with the car seat. Told me my car was too old that they didn’t make parts for my 2010 Mazda 3 for the already recalled seat problems. Now I’m in a big bind. My steering wheel is one inch from my chest. I am very upset what happened here.

VISIBILITY/WIPER,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-15
- VIN: JM1BL1SFXA1
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER,STRUCTURE
- Summary: The dashboards should be subject to a recall immediately since badly reduced visibility from glare is a recipe for an accident. The defective (melting) material is so bad that if the sun hits it just right, I can hardly see anything ahead of me; it is an accident waiting to happen. I called my Mazda dealer (Gray Epperson Mazda in Cleveland, TN (423) 303-1333) but said there was nothing they could do now as there was a warranty before but it had expired. I try to drive the car but always trying to avoid sunny conditions, but unfortunately, when I leave at 5pm conditions are worse if it's sunny. I wish Mazda would accept responsibility soon (or they are forced to do so by NHTSA, if needed) so that I wouldn't have to take such a risk.

I would have thought this would have been replaced or recalled prior to my intation of this matter. Also dash may contain harmful or chemical agents I'm it that would not be safe to child nor adult.

The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-05
- VIN: JM1BL1H69A1
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I am writing to file a complaint regarding the defective dashboard of my Mazda 3. The dash of the car under the windshield has become melty and shines excessively, making it extremely difficult to see when the sun is shining on the dashboard. The reflection on the windshield is so intense that it affects the visibility of the road and makes it hard to see clearly. I was informed by the dealership that there was an extended service available for this issue, but it expired after 10 years. I was never informed of this extended service and only now, after my dashboard has become extremely affected, did I find out about it. This is extremely concerning as the dashboard is an important safety feature of the car and the reflection from the dashboard is affecting my visibility, putting myself and other drivers on the road in danger. I am extremely frustrated with the lack of transparency and communication from the dealership regarding this extended service and the fact that my dashboard has become defective despite proper maintenance and upkeep of the car. I demand that Mazda take responsibility for the defective dashboard and rectify the issue as soon as possible. I kindly request that the NHTSA investigates this matter and ensures that Mazda takes the necessary actions to resolve this issue for all affected car owners.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-19
- VIN: JM1BL1SF5A1
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: The Transmission Control Module (TCM) has gone out on my car, causing it to shift to 2nd gear while doing 75mph with cars around me, and would no longer shift out of 2nd gear, or into reverse. It was an extremely dangerous situation that made me come very close to wrecking into a car, as well as the many cars behind me that had to emergency brake due to my rapid deceleration, especially without and brake lights coming on because it was engine braking. Doing a simple google search show that this is an extremely well-known problem effecting almost every Mazda 3 that used this TCM in 2010-2011. Any mechanic will tell you it's a known problem, and that it was due to where and how Mazda placed the computer, which causes it to overheat and fail without warning. I'm not sure why there has not been a recall on this issue with how prevalent it has been, and how easily recognized it is by mechanics. It is not a cheap fix, and can cause many other major issues leading up to requiring a full new transmission, if the problem did not already cause the car to wreck!
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-01-01
- VIN: JM1BL1SG0A1
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The dash of the car is melting. It causes a reflection that is bright and impairs visibility. Mazda addressed this problem with extending the warranty. When I called the local dealerships, none of them had the dash to replace per warranty. I made several calls throughout the year and each time was told the dashboard was not available and to try again. Then COVID hit and I did not venture out. When I finally called again, the warranty had expired. Mazda offered me $200 towards replacing the dash. When I called the dealership, it was almost a $1,000 repair. I've then called Mazda again and they asked me to get a diagnosis at a local dealership. I did that and then have had zero response to my many emails and calls from my assigned rep. I have never seen a dash melt and get sticky and shiny like this before. It is literally dripping down. I believe this is a safety defect. And why Mazda had to extend the warranty. But they didn't go far enough because they extended the warranty but did not have the parts to honor such a warranty.
Mazda Mazda3 2010 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the Mazda Mazda3 2010.

Hey there! I'm so excited to share that this is my 3rd Mazda and I couldn't be happier with my decision. It's only been a few weeks, but I already know that I won't have any regrets. I did a lot of research and compared the Mazda 3 to all its competition, and let me tell you, it was just plain more fun to drive! Sure, most cars in this class have similar features (see Corolla, Civic, etc.), but if you're going to spend thousands of dollars on a car, you might as well get something that's actually FUN to drive too! Before this car, I had an 08 Pontiac G5, and I never really liked it. Right from the start, it just had WAY too many issues. I bought a

I'm so glad I chose Bonnie after taking her for an overnight test drive, during which I put 126 miles on the car. At the time, I was living in the Chicago suburbs and had to make an unplanned trip into downtown Chicago. Bonnie performed exceptionally well in all situations, from the suburbs to the tollway and even in the city. She was easy to park and navigate, and I felt comfortable driving her in any situation. Since then, Bonnie and I have travelled 125,000 miles together, and I have never once doubted her ability to get me where I need to go. The only reason I haven't replaced her with another Mazda 3 Hatchback is that the rear seat and cargo space are a bit small, and Mazda has chosen to use their own navigation system instead of Android Auto in the 2018 models.

I traded my 2008 Mazda3 GT for this 2010 Mazda3 GT and immediately noticed significant improvements. The transmission, handling, build quality, and road manners are all better. At first, some hardcore Mazda3 enthusiasts like myself were put off by the car's appearance, but I have come to appreciate its beauty and realize that it is one of the best-built cars available in any class and at any price point. When compared to the competition, the Mazda3 outperforms the Toyota Corolla (built in Canada, Indiana, and the USA), the Honda Civic (built in Indiana, USA), and the Nissan Sentra (built in Mexico). In fact, the Mazda3 can be favorably compared to luxury cars like the Lexus IS250, BMW3, and MBZ-C, and it offers even better value for the money.
-
I compared this ride to the Honda Civic, Toyota Matrix, and Scion xB. I test drove all of them, saving the Mazda for last. What did the Mazda do that the other cars did not? It put a big fat smile on my face! I had to leave the dealer, knowing that I could not negotiate for this car... at the moment (I wanted it too much!) It's an excellent value for under $20K. The attention to detail is great, the interior is excellent, and it's fantastic to drive. The Dynamic Stability Control is awesome, turn it off to squeal tires...and to really feel the difference it makes! I love the way it says

It's amazing how much modern cars have improved with all the new technology, from suspension to braking, steering to noise reduction. However, with all these advancements, it's easy to forget what it's like to truly drive a car. While many new cars are becoming more automated, my Mazda 3 combines all these technological features to create a unique driving experience. You'll feel the road, have confidence while steering, hear the engine, and feel the grip under braking. This car is not for the passive driver, but if you're looking for a car that will give you an active driving experience with plenty of feedback, the Mazda 3 is an excellent choice.

The dash melted last year, but despite being out of warranty, the dealer covered the cost of the part while I paid for the labor ($302). Yesterday, I had to take the car in for a complete clutch replacement, which was also out of warranty and cost $1600. However, I discovered that the replacement clutch is a redesigned assembly, likely due to a flawed original design. It's disappointing that a stock vehicle would require a clutch replacement at only 34k miles, but I'm confident that the new assembly will provide better performance and longevity.

I've been driving my Mazda 3 sedan for about 6 months now. While it's been a reliable car, I do have a few concerns. The GPS system could be improved, as it doesn't quite meet my needs. Additionally, I've noticed some issues with the power windows and the wheels seem to be wearing unevenly. Despite these concerns, I appreciate the car's fuel efficiency, even though my mostly freeway driving in California tends to lower the gas mileage. The ride can be a bit rough and noisy, but overall I'm satisfied with my purchase.
