2012 Mazda Cx-7 problems
The Mazda CX-7 is a mid-size crossover SUV from Mazda, and is the production version of the MX-Crossport concept car. It was shown publicly for the first time at the 2006 LA Auto Show in January. Production officially began on February 20, 2006 in Mazda's Ujina #2 factory in Hiroshima, and went on sale in April 2006 as a 2007 model. The CX-7 was Mazda's first mid-size SUV since the Navajo was discontinued in 1994, although the CX-7 is considered more of a 'Soft Roader'.
The mid-size CX-7 was positioned below the larger three-row Mazda CX-9; the vehicles did not share platforms. Instead, it used the Ford C1 platform that underpinned the Ford Focus and Mazda3. The CX-7 was discontinued in August 2012 in favor of the new Mazda CX-5; as the compact CX-5 has similar interior space to the mid-size CX-7.
Specifications
Engine and transmission
Power comes from the same 2.3 L inline-4 MZR L3-VDT DISI engine used in the Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6 coupled with a six-speed Aisin F21 automatic transmission, and tuned to produce 244 hp or 182 kW (Australian model 175 kW) at 5000 rpm and 258 lb·ft (350 N·m) of torque at a low 2500 rpm, 99% of the maximum torque is available to 5000 rpm.
The MZR 2.3L DISI turbo engine was retuned in the North American specification CX-7 to deliver torque at a lower rpm for less turbo lag off the line, at the cost of power. This was achieved thanks to a redesigned, smaller K04 turbocharger. United Kingdom specification CX-7s featured the same, larger K04 turbocharger and transmission found in the Mazdaspeed line.

Why did Mazda discontinue the CX-7?
A spokesman for the Japanese automaker Mazda has confirmed this week that the production of the CX-7 SUV has ended. There are basically two reasons why Mazda has reached this decision, the first one obviously being the low number of sales, while the other has to do with the success of the CX-5 and the larger CX-9.

EVERYONE ON THE FORUM SUGGESTS THE PROJECTOR LENSES THAT COME EQUIPPED ARE FAULTY. I SPENT $400 ON AFTERMARKET HEADLIGHTS (FULL HOUSING) TO TRY AND RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM OR MAKE IT BETTER TO BE ABLE TO SEE AT NIGHT, SINCE I HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM MAZDA AND THEY SEEM NOT WILLING TO LOOK INSIDE THE ISSUE WITH MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES.THIS HAS BEEN A REPCCUING ISSUE SINCE PURCHASE IN 2012.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2011 Mazda CX-7 I SV. In my opinion, it's a very reliable and good-looking SUV. Even with 275k miles, it still runs like new and I've never had any major issues with it. I haven't even had to replace the fuel pump, water pump, or timing belt. The only thing I'm currently dealing with is the driver side window regulator, but I know that's a common issue with these cars and I'll be getting it replaced soon. Other than that, I have no complaints. I've only had to replace the engine mount and a metal hose that overheated on me, but those were the only engine parts I've had to replace. Of course, I did replace the fan belt and will be replacing the spark plugs soon. Overall, I highly recommend this SUV and want to give a shoutout to Mazda for making such a reliable vehicle!

This car is a pleasure to drive and provides exceptional comfort on long journeys. The gas mileage is consistent with the MPG ratings. Although Mazda has been slow to address recalls, I have been waiting for the front idler arm/ball joint replacement since October 2016 (today is 6-30-2017) and the air bags since March 2017. Despite these issues, the car has proven to be reliable and durable.
-
I'm glad to hear that you love the handling of your CX-7! I understand that replacing the headlights can be frustrating, especially since you have to go through the wheel wells to get to them. It sounds like you would prefer an AWD drive, as FWD can struggle in deep snow and cause the wheels to come off the ground. Thank you for sharing your experience!
-
Just purchased a Mazda cx7 and I can't stop raving about this car! If I had known about it earlier, I would have bought it brand new!! It has exceeded all my expectations.
-
I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I was able to purchase it brand new at the end of the model year for 5K off sticker, which was a great deal. Since then, I've only had to take it in for oil changes and two recalls, but the dealership service has been fantastic and reasonably priced. While it doesn't have as much cargo space as larger SUVs and the rear seat legroom is limited, it's perfect for kids. Additionally, the resale value looks to be better than average. The only downside is that it can be a bit noisy on the highway unless the radio is cranked up, but it's a great vehicle for getting around town. On highway trips, I get between 24-28 miles per gallon depending on speed and AC, and 21-22 miles per gallon locally. I'm considering upgrading to a CX-9, but I'm really going to miss this one.

I recently took a CX-7 AWD rental car on a weekend getaway and unfortunately, my experience was not as positive as I had hoped. The car's fuel efficiency was disappointing, averaging less than 18 mpg on the highway and about 12 in city driving. Additionally, I found the turbo to be lacking in power and the car did not have electronic temperature control, a feature that is now common in similarly priced vehicles. While I was not impressed with the CX-7, I do believe that there are other options on the market that may better suit my needs. Thank you for considering my feedback, Mazda.

The vehicle experienced several issues, including ignition coil failure at 134k, plug failure at 59k, and fuel injector failure at 133k. While the cost of repairs may be significant, it is important to address these issues to ensure the longevity and reliability of the vehicle.

I was a bit disappointed with the interior design of the CX-7, especially since Mazda's interior design used to be light years ahead of anything American you could buy. If you're considering the black interior, keep in mind that everything shows up on it. The car comes with a lot of extras like blue tooth, a 5 disk cd changer (which I personally don't need), and a link for an mp3 player. However, the heated seats are a nice touch, especially when it's cold outside. Overall, it's a basic car that drives well and gets me where I need to go. I'm not much of a gear head, so I won't comment on the performance.

Although we have encountered some issues, I am confident in the quality of our Mazda. With 2400 miles on it, we have noticed that the air conditioning is not as strong as we would like, especially during the hot Orlando summer where temperatures can exceed 100 degrees. However, Mazda has assured us that this is due to the extreme heat and not a fault with the car itself. We did experience some discomfort for a couple of weeks this summer, but we are confident that the air conditioning will be sufficient for most conditions. Recently, we noticed a strange smell coming from the engine compartment, but we have made an appointment to have it checked and are confident that any issues will be resolved. While we considered the Toyota RAV4, we are confident in our decision to purchase the Mazda and believe that it will continue to serve us well.

All of the cars I own have more than 200K miles on them because I take care of them. Let me share my story with you. The dealership at -closed- Mazda in Fremont, CA repaired the car due to rear bumper damage during transport. Unfortunately, they did not disclose this to us until after we complained and found pink bondo underneath chipped paint. Who repairs a plastic bumper with bondo? However, this was not the car's fault, it was the dealer's. Moving on to the actual car, I really like the amenities it offers such as Bluetooth, awesome speakers, sunroof, and tinted back windows. The ride is smooth, acceleration and brakes are good, except for the parking brake which I find useless. The car completely rocks forward after setting, but luckily the actual park gear is there. The seats are comfy, steering is average, and the design and look of the car are good. There is plenty of space and I don't notice road noise much, but I listen to music with my windows rolled up. The tires are a bit expensive at around $200 each, but I found a great warranty service at Costco. I had to replace the battery around 36K miles, but I replaced it with a $200 5-year battery warranty from O'Reilly which gives me peace of mind. The placement of the side impact airbags near the front windshield on both passenger and driver side is not ideal as it restricts vision to the corners of the car. Although it is supposed to protect you, it is blocking some portion of a very important spot in your vision. Other than that, the car is aesthetically pleasing, very spacious, and gas is okay. My major problem with the car is that I wish I had opted for the extended warranty for powertrain and transmission. I have a service warranty on the car that covers oil changes and maintenance, which I love and think every car should have. That's my story.I have owned my 2011 MAZDA CX-7 for less than 4 years and it has only ~40K miles on it. Unfortunately, my wife experienced an issue with the car while driving to work on October 30, 2015. She called me distressed, but luckily was able to safely park the car in a nearby metered parking area. Later that day, when she attempted to leave, the car wouldn't move. After contacting our insurance company, we were able to take advantage of their free towing service and had the car towed to the Mazda dealership. Despite being outside of its warranty, the dealership was kind enough to store the car until it could be repaired. Interestingly, my younger brother also owns a Mazda CX-7 (2010 model) and experienced a similar issue last year, which required a new transmission. I hope this information is helpful. Although I don't typically write reviews, I wanted to share my experience.
