Common 1994 Mazda 929 problems

The Mazda 929 from 1994 is known for several common problems, primarily related to its suspension, heater core, powertrain control module, spark plugs, power steering system, fuel pressure, and window regulators.

  • Knocking from Suspension on Rough Roads: One of the most common problems reported by Mazda 929 owners is a knocking sound from the suspension when driving on rough roads. This issue is typically caused by worn or loose sway bar links, which may need to be replaced to resolve the problem.
  • Heater Core Replacement: Another common issue with the Mazda 929 is a faulty heater core, which can cause problems with the heating and cooling system. Replacing the heater core is a complex and expensive repair, with an estimated cost of $1,646 to $1,816.
  • Powertrain Control Module Replacement: The powertrain control module (PCM) is responsible for controlling various aspects of the engine and transmission. If the PCM fails, it may need to be replaced, with an estimated cost of $1,385 to $1,394.
  • Spark Plug Replacement: The Mazda 929's spark plugs may need to be replaced periodically to maintain optimal engine performance. The estimated cost of this repair is $111 to $165.
  • Power Steering System Leak Inspection: If the power steering system is leaking, it may need to be inspected and repaired. The estimated cost of this repair is $44 to $56.
  • Fuel Pressure Test: If the fuel pressure is too low or too high, it may cause problems with engine performance. A fuel pressure test can help diagnose this issue, with an estimated cost of $44 to $56.
  • AC Diagnosis: If the air conditioning system is not working properly, it may need to be diagnosed and repaired. The estimated cost of this repair is $88 to $111.
  • Noise Diagnosis: If the Mazda 929 is making unusual noises, it may need to be diagnosed and repaired. The estimated cost of this repair is $88 to $111.
  • Window Regulator Motor Replacement: If the window regulator motor fails, it may need to be replaced. The estimated cost of this repair is $355 to $466.
  • Window Regulator Replacement: If the window regulator itself fails, it may need to be replaced. The estimated cost of this repair is $340 to $770.
  • Alternator Voltage Regulator Replacement: If the alternator voltage regulator fails, it may need to be replaced. The estimated cost of this repair is $451 to $502.

In addition to these common problems, the Mazda 929 is known for having logistical problems related to its sales and maintenance. Mazda had trouble supporting all of the new models it had created for expansion, and its American dealers weren't necessarily prepared to sell them. This led to problems with sales and maintenance, particularly for luxury buyers.

The Mazda 929 also has a recall for a problem with the ignition switch, which can cause a short-circuit and potentially lead to a fire. This recall affects the Mazda 929 from 1993 and 1994, as well as several other Mazda models from the same time period.

In summary, the Mazda 929 from 1994 is known for several common problems related to its suspension, heater core, powertrain control module, spark plugs, power steering system, fuel pressure, and window regulators. The car also has logistical problems related to its sales and maintenance, and a recall for a problem with the ignition switch.

Negative 1994 Mazda 929 car reviews

  1. Deondre Lynch 2024-11-05

I can see that you've been on the hunt for a 929 for quite some time, and I'm glad to hear that you finally found one that you're happy with! From what you've described, it sounds like the car is incredibly comfortable and spacious, making it a great choice for long drives. It's worth noting that some parts have been replaced after 100kmi, but that's not uncommon for a car of this age. I understand that the accelerator can be a bit too sensitive, but I hope that doesn't detract too much from your overall enjoyment of the car. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!

  2. Gaetano Stoltenberg 2025-02-02

Still a good looking car! It's so much fun to drive and has power to spare. Plus, it sounds like a sports car! The trunk is a little small, but the back seat is a great ride too. Unfortunately, I'm currently experiencing a drive shaft universal problem and the only way to repair it is to pay Mazda $1050 for a whole new drive shaft and universal.

  3. Eladio Nolan 2025-01-23

Excellent automobile! I've owned it for several years and haven't had any problems. In fact, I've only spent less than $300 per year to keep it operational over the past decade. The interior is still in excellent condition, and while the engine needs a little more care now, it still runs like a charm.

  4. Pierre Wehner 2025-01-18

I've loved this car since the moment I saw it. I've owned it since July 2002 and it still drives, looks, and feels great. Some people complain about the repair costs, but I've found that it costs just as much to repair as a domestic car, if not less. Maybe it's time to look for a new mechanic? I do have to admit that I average a repair every month or so, but that's only because I'm trying to restore it to its original state. Overall, I would highly recommend this car to anyone who wants a luxury car at an affordable price.

  5. Alfred Borer 2025-01-18

I bought this car as a second vehicle when it had 30,000 miles on it. What sold me on it was the stylish design and impressive handling. It drives like a sports car, but still has plenty of room for the family. It came with all the bells and whistles, which was ahead of its time. The brakes are superbly balanced for no-dip panic stops, and the independent 4-wheel suspension provides amazing performance. Even though I have another car, I can't bear to part with this one. The only major repair I've had to do was to replace the A/C and fan-clutch assembly. Dealer repairs can be expensive, as are the parts, but thankfully few have been required. There's quite enough trunk space for family vacations. Even though it now has over 165,000 miles on it, it still cranks immediately and gets 21 mpg. The only small tradeoff is that it burns a quart of oil per 1000 miles.
