- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: ON THE ABOVE MENTIONED DATES I ENCOUNTERED MECHINICAL PROBLEMS WHICH CONSISTED OF MY COOLING SYSTEM. I REPLACED THE WATER PUMP, THERMOST, RADIATOR, AND TIMING BELT. SIX MONTHS LATER MY HEATER AND DEFOGGER WAS WORKING IMPROPERLY. AT THE TIME I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS RELATED TO THE FIRST PROBLEM I ENCOUNTERED AND I COULDN'T AFFORD TO TAKE IT IN AT THE TIME. SO I ONLY DROVE THE CAR WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS AT LEAST 45 DEGREES OR HIGHER. AFTER I FINALLY PAID OFF MY CAR I WAS FINACIALLY ABLE TO TAKE IT IN AND HAD THE HEATER PROBLEM CHECKED OUT. I WAS TOLD BY COVINGTON PIKE MAZDA MR. SOMMERS , THAT THEY WERE INFORMED BY MAZDA MANUFACTURER IN 1995 THAT THESE CARS HAD A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE BLOCK THAT RESTICTED THE FLOW OF THE COOLIANT, WHICH AFFECTED THE HEATER/DEFROST/COOLING SYSTEM, AND THE ONLY REMEDY WAS TO BUY A NEW MOTOR. I CONTACTED MAZDA CORP. AND GOT NO ASSISTANCE. I ENDED UP BUYING A NEW MOTOR FROM MAZDA ON FEB-23-99 AND IT WAS INSTALLED AND RETURNED ONMAR-05-99. MY TOTAL OUT OF POCKET COST WAS $4925.60 WHICH MAZDA REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR . I FEEL THAT BECAUSE MAZDA KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM BACK IN 1995 WHEN THEY INFORMED THE DEALERS WITH THIS TECHNICAL INFRMATION. THAT ANY CUSTOMER WHO ENCOUNTERD THESE PROBLEMS MAZDA WOULD REPAIR AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER. *AK

I purchased this car a year ago. I accidentally changed its air flow assembly and knock sensor, but it still runs fast and very quietly. Although the engine warning light has been on for four years, I have not experienced any issues. It is worth noting that parts for this car can be quite expensive and are often only available through dealerships. Finding used parts can also be a challenge. For example, I recently spent a lot of time searching for a passenger side headlight assembly and finally found one at a used parts shop. However, they would only sell it to me as part of the entire front of the car. The price was quite steep at $1500.

A very stylish car with a great ride and a spacious interior, making it perfect for larger individuals. However, it is worth noting that parts for this car can be quite expensive, costing about twice as much as those for domestic cars. For instance, a new exhaust and catalytic converter can set you back $850 US. At 100K miles, the front shocks may need replacing, and the transmission can be slow to shift into reverse. Additionally, two air sensors have been recently replaced. Despite these issues, the car handles very well in snow for a rear-wheel drive. If the repair and maintenance costs were more affordable, I would definitely keep this car.

Your car has hit an impressive 252k miles and is still running like a champ! Despite some neglect, it keeps on going and going. It's great to hear that you love its looks and handling, as well as its excellent features such as the solar roof, 12 speaker audio, intelligent 'fuzzy logic' cruise control, manually shiftable transmission, hold button, and automatic power and shift modes. I also hear that some models have ride adjustable suspension. Japanese ones had even more features! It's clear that you have a lot of love for your car and I hope it continues to serve you well.

I bought this car as a second vehicle when it had 30,000 miles on it. What sold me on it was the stylish design and impressive handling. It drives like a sports car, but still has plenty of room for the family. It came with all the bells and whistles, which was ahead of its time. The brakes are superbly balanced for no-dip panic stops, and the independent 4-wheel suspension provides amazing performance. Even though I have another car, I can't bear to part with this one. The only major repair I've had to do was to replace the A/C and fan-clutch assembly. Dealer repairs can be expensive, as are the parts, but thankfully few have been required. There's quite enough trunk space for family vacations. Even though it now has over 165,000 miles on it, it still cranks immediately and gets 21 mpg. The only small tradeoff is that it burns a quart of oil per 1000 miles.

The Mazda 929 is still one of the most beautiful sedans on the road. Although it was discontinued in 1995, it still has a sleek and 'Jaguaresque' appearance. I personally couldn't justify spending another $20K on a new Millenia, especially since my 1992 model has been extremely reliable for nine years. It's quiet, smooth, and quick off the line, although cornering can be a little soft and the driving position can be awkward. The trunk is also a bit small. However, the costliest repairs I've had to make were to the muffler system, struts, and radiator. It's important to note that the timing belt needs replacing every 60K, but overall, a well-maintained 929 should be a used-car bargain.

I can see that you've been on the hunt for a 929 for quite some time, and I'm glad to hear that you finally found one that you're happy with! From what you've described, it sounds like the car is incredibly comfortable and spacious, making it a great choice for long drives. It's worth noting that some parts have been replaced after 100kmi, but that's not uncommon for a car of this age. I understand that the accelerator can be a bit too sensitive, but I hope that doesn't detract too much from your overall enjoyment of the car. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!
