2007 Lincoln Town car problems
The Lincoln Town Car is a model line of full-size luxury sedans that was marketed by the Lincoln division of the American automaker Ford Motor Company. Deriving its name from a limousine body style, Lincoln marketed the Town Car from 1981 to 2011, with the nameplate previously serving as the flagship trim of the Lincoln Continental. Produced across three generations for thirty model years, the Town Car was marketed directly against luxury sedans from Cadillac and Chrysler.
Marketed nearly exclusively as a four-door sedan (a two-door sedan was offered for 1981 only), many examples of the Town Car were used for fleet and livery (limousine) service. From 1983 to its 2011 discontinuation, the Town Car was the longest car produced by Ford worldwide, becoming the longest mass-production car sold in North America from 1997 to 2011. While not a direct successor of the Town Car, the Lincoln MKS would become the longest American sedan until 2016 (overtaken by the Cadillac CT6).
From 1980 until 2007, the Lincoln Town Car was assembled in Wixom, Michigan, (Wixom Assembly) alongside the Lincoln Continental, LS, and Mark VI, VII, and VIII. After Wixom's closure, Town Car production moved to Southwold, Ontario, (St. Thomas Assembly) alongside the similar Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. The final Lincoln Town Car was produced on August 29, 2011.
Within the Lincoln model line, the Town Car was not directly replaced; the nameplate was used from 2012 to 2019 to denote livery/limousine/hearse variants of the Lincoln MKT. For 2017, the revived Continental replaced the MKS, closely matching the Town Car in wheelbase and width.

Common 2007 Lincoln Town car problems
The Lincoln Town Car is a popular luxury vehicle, but like any car, it can have its fair share of problems. Here are some common issues based on complaints from owners of the 2007 model year:
- Coolant leaks: Coolant leaks are another common problem with the Lincoln Town Car. These leaks can be caused by a variety of issues, including a faulty water pump or a cracked radiator. Depending on the source of the leak, repairs can range from relatively simple to quite complex.
- Blown-out spark plugs: Blown-out spark plugs can be a problem for the Lincoln Town Car. This issue can cause the engine to run poorly or not at all. Replacing the spark plugs can be a straightforward repair, but it's essential to determine the cause of the issue to prevent it from happening again.
- Vehicle control issues: Vehicle control issues can be a significant safety concern for the Lincoln Town Car. Some owners have reported that their cars have unexpectedly jerked or accelerated, even when the brakes are applied. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty sensors or wiring. If you notice any signs of these issues with your Town Car, it's essential to consult a mechanic immediately to avoid getting into accidents.
- Acceleration problems: The 1999 Lincoln Town Car has been reported to have acceleration problems, where the car wouldn't speed up no matter how much the gas pedal is pressed. This issue can be caused by faulty components, such as the fuel filter, throttle position sensor, or catalytic converter. However, there may be other complications that can reduce the car's acceleration, such as transmission, exhaust, and engine issues.
- A/C problems: A/C problems can become severe in the Lincoln Town Car, leading to total component failure. Some owners have reported that their A/Cs suddenly broke down and stopped working without any warnings. Others have reported abnormal smells coming from their A/C before failure. Multiple technical service bulletins (TSBs) have been issued to address these issues.
It's worth noting that the 2007 Lincoln Town Car has received positive reviews from some owners, with many praising its comfort, reliability, and smooth ride. However, like any car, it's essential to be aware of potential issues and address them promptly to ensure the safety and longevity of the vehicle.

- Summary: The contact owns a 2007 Lincoln Town Car. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, she became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the steering shaft. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V704000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,000.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-21
- VIN: 1LNHM81V57Y
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: This safety issue was discovered yesterday. The passenger-side rear door will not unlock, either by manual attempt to raise the knob or by using the control buttons on the FOB nor at the driver's station. The window in that door also no longer responds to attempts to raise or lower it. Both my rear seat passengers had to enter using the driver's-side rear door. This creates a serious potential safety hazard by preventing rear-seat passengers exiting the vehicle near their closest door in an emergency. The car will be taken to a local dealership to resolve this safety and convenience issue upon my return from an extended trip. I had no warning of any impending component failure. That door lock and window worked well days ago.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-11

- Summary: The contact's mother-in-law owns a 2007 Lincoln Town Car. The contact stated that while her mother-in-law was driving in a parking lot, the power steering assist failed to operate as needed without warning. Upon restarting the vehicle, the power steering started to operate as needed; however, the failure soon returned. Despite the failure, her mother-in-law managed to drive the vehicle home. The dealer was notified of the failure and found no record of any recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V704000 (Steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-23
- VIN: 1LNHM81V87Y
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: When applying the brake to slow down on an exit ramp, the car unexpectedly accelerated despite the brake pedal being pressed hard. The driver was able to avoid a collision with a stopped vehicle in front by shifting the gear into neutral. The engine revved up for a couple a seconds, but returned to a normal rate of revolution with the gear still in neutral and the car practically stopped.
STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-12
- VIN: 1LNHM81V97Y
- Components: STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My 07 Lincoln only has around 80,000 miles on it and has water leaks causing water to pool in the floor boards thereby causing the potential for rust, electrical issues and the hazards that could result therefrom. A quick online search will reveal to you that these leaks are incredibly common and very well known among Lincoln owners and dealers alike (very, very common problem due to manufacturer defects) but Ford refuses to do anything about it. Given how widespread this problem is it seems that the right thing to do would be for Ford to issue a recall and repair these things. Problem appears to affect 99'-11 models. Thank You

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-08-03
- VIN: 1LNHM84W47Y
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: I AM AWARE OF THE CURRENT RECALL REGARDING CROWN VICTORIA, GRAND MARQUIS, AND LINCOLN TOWNCAR USING THE LOWER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT CORROSION AS THE ISSUE. I AM NOT CONVINCED THAT THIS IS THE PRIMARY REASON FOR POSSIBLE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. I LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING IN MY TOWNCAR A FEW WEEKS AGO AND HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER IN NEW CASTLE DELAWARE. THE SERVICE WRITER OFFERED NO EXPLANATION OTHER THAN THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT HAD BROKEN. AFTER A PERSONAL CLOSER INSPECTION I DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT WAS PULLED APART AS A RESULT EXCESSIVE TRAVEL OF THE LOWER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THE REASONING OFFERED BY FORD BLAMES ONLY THE ISSUE OF CORROSION THUS MINIMIZING THE PARTS FOR POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT. FORTUNATELY, WHEN I EXPERIENCED THE LOSS OF STEERING IN MY CAR I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT LOW SPEED. HAD I BEEN OUT ON THE HIGHWAY THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE.

Hey there! Did you know that this car has a theater half top? It gives it such a cool and unique look!
Jillian Smitham 2024-11-23
Just a large, comfortable car that can last for 15 years and still look good with 150,000 miles.
Jovani Kling 2024-08-21
Hi there! I've had my car for over a year now, but I haven't quite fallen in love with it yet. I'm a fairly young driver for this type of car (I was 34 when I bought it). Before this car, I owned a Deville and I'm actually leaning towards getting another one. The air ride was better in the Cadillac, the instrument panel had more options, the seats were more comfortable, the engine performance was much, much better, and there were even features that Lincoln doesn't offer.
King Koch 2024-08-09
Just bought the Signature series TownCar. It's an absolute dream - inside and out. Although gas prices have gone through the roof, I'm pleased to see that I'm getting 20 miles per gallon - mostly city driving. The car is very comfortable, with great features and all-around visibility.
Orland Kreiger 2024-07-23
I'm so glad I bought the Designer with every option except the moonroof. It's such a wonderful car to travel in! I'm getting over 25MPG on the road and an all-round average of 21.5MPG, even with about 60% highway and 40% city driving. That's just terrific for a car this large. The comfort is unparalleled and I can really spread out - there's no center console to get in the way. Plus, the trunk is huge and it has great features like memory seats and pedals, voice command for the navigation and radio, and Sirius. I'm also pleasantly surprised by how good the visibility is.
