2005 Lincoln Town car problems
The Lincoln Town Car is a model line of full-size luxury sedans that was marketed by the Lincoln division of the American automaker Ford Motor Company. Deriving its name from a limousine body style, Lincoln marketed the Town Car from 1981 to 2011, with the nameplate previously serving as the flagship trim of the Lincoln Continental. Produced across three generations for thirty model years, the Town Car was marketed directly against luxury sedans from Cadillac and Chrysler.
Marketed nearly exclusively as a four-door sedan (a two-door sedan was offered for 1981 only), many examples of the Town Car were used for fleet and livery (limousine) service. From 1983 to its 2011 discontinuation, the Town Car was the longest car produced by Ford worldwide, becoming the longest mass-production car sold in North America from 1997 to 2011. While not a direct successor of the Town Car, the Lincoln MKS would become the longest American sedan until 2016 (overtaken by the Cadillac CT6).
From 1980 until 2007, the Lincoln Town Car was assembled in Wixom, Michigan, (Wixom Assembly) alongside the Lincoln Continental, LS, and Mark VI, VII, and VIII. After Wixom's closure, Town Car production moved to Southwold, Ontario, (St. Thomas Assembly) alongside the similar Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. The final Lincoln Town Car was produced on August 29, 2011.
Within the Lincoln model line, the Town Car was not directly replaced; the nameplate was used from 2012 to 2019 to denote livery/limousine/hearse variants of the Lincoln MKT. For 2017, the revived Continental replaced the MKS, closely matching the Town Car in wheelbase and width.

Common 2005 Lincoln Town car problems
The Lincoln Town Car, a luxury vehicle produced by Ford, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners of the 2005 model.
One of the most frequently reported issues is air suspension problems, which can lead to a bumpy ride and potential damage to the suspension system. The air suspension system in the 2005 Lincoln Town Car relies on an air compressor to maintain the correct air pressure in the air springs. When the air compressor fails, it can cause the suspension to sag, leading to an uncomfortable ride. Additionally, air leaks in the system can cause the compressor to overwork and eventually fail. Faulty height sensors and damaged air springs or airbags can also contribute to air suspension issues.
Another common problem reported by owners of the 2005 Lincoln Town Car is engine problems, specifically with the intake manifold cracking. This issue has been reported to occur around 120,000 miles and can cost up to $900 to fix.
Vehicle control issues have also been reported, with some owners experiencing unexpected jerking or acceleration, and even total brake failure, leading to crashes and confirmed injuries. These issues have been reported to occur around 54,400 miles.
Furthermore, A/C problems have been reported in the 1996 Lincoln Town Car, which can lead to total component failure and require multiple TSBs to fix.
It is important to note that the 2005 Lincoln Town Car is not the worst model year for engine problems, with the 1999 model year being rated worse due to higher repair costs and more problems at lower mileage.
Overall, the Lincoln Town Car has been reported to have several common problems, including air suspension issues, engine problems, vehicle control issues, and A/C problems. It is recommended that owners of the 2005 Lincoln Town Car address any issues promptly to ensure a safe and comfortable ride.

Until this car, I have always owned a GM product. Then in January I rented a Lincoln Town Car for a vacation. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the ride was, and how fuel efficient it was considering its size and weight. It easily accommodated 4 large adults in total comfort, which is not something many other vehicles can do.
-
Although we have owned 3 other T.C.'s, we find the amount of road noise on concrete roads to be too high for a luxury car. Additionally, the AC is not easy to adjust and can be uncomfortable. While the seats are comfortable, they are not as good as previous models. However, we will consider other luxury cars next time. We look forward to the end of our lease. Overall, we believe that the car is not a good value.
-
My Lincoln is a wonderful vehicle. It's a pleasure to drive and ride in, and I always feel safe when I'm in it. You won't be disappointed with its looks, performance, and ride.
-
I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you've been interested in big luxury cars, and I wanted to share my experience with you. When I test drove an 05 TC, I immediately fell in love with it. Even though I'm not the typical TC owner, I find that it rides and drives like a dream. The seats are as comfortable as my recliner at home, and the CD player is awesome. Plus, the reverse sensors are a life saver when backing up. I also love the cool-looking clock in the center of the dash! It's a great car that gets 25-28 mpg hwy and 23 city, which is amazing for a V8. So far, I haven't had a single problem with it - and that's rare these days!
-
I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your Lincoln! It sounds like it has been a great investment for you. The Lincoln has so many great features, like its comfortable ride, excellent handling, and the fact that it runs on regular fuel. It's great that you were able to get such a good deal on it through the internet. It's a shame that Ford hasn't been able to market it as well as they could, but it's their loss. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with the Lincoln!

The car seems to have some issues with acceleration and transmission, especially when passing or going uphill. The Remote Control also seems to have the same problem. Additionally, there is a noticeable hissing sound coming from the driver's side, which can be quite annoying, especially during long drives. The Michelin tires also produce a whining noise. Despite the low mileage (4200), I find myself using my wife's 95 Chevrolet Corsica more often than the Lincoln. Furthermore, the car sways when hit by strong winds on its side. I am considering trading this car in for a different make, as I am not satisfied with my 2004 Lincoln. Perhaps leasing would have been a better option for me.
Ambrose Powlowski 2024-05-18
I actually own one of these cars, unlike others who claim to. While my experience with Lincoln has been disappointing, I wouldn't say it's a bad car. It's just not as luxurious or refined as a Lexus or Cadillac. One issue with Lincolns is that replacing parts can be quite costly. Due to this, I won't be driving a Lincoln again. Additionally, the car is quite heavy and doesn't have great gas mileage, with only 18 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway. If you're in the market for a luxury sedan, I highly recommend taking a look at the Lexus LS430. It's truly 'the car' to have.
Dorcas Koelpin 2024-01-24
The Towncar has a smooth ride and comfortable leather seats. I was pleased to find that after 10,000 miles, there were no mechanical problems at all. However, my Uncle's 2001 Towncar, which has 40,000 miles on it, needed a new belt after 34,000 miles. While the quality is good, it may not be on par with a Lexus. The features and sound system are okay, but I personally prefer the luxury of a Lexus. Overall, I feel that I may have paid too much for this car.
