The Lincoln Town Car is a model line of full-size luxury sedans that was marketed by the Lincoln division of the American automaker Ford Motor Company. Deriving its name from a limousine body style, Lincoln marketed the Town Car from 1981 to 2011, with the nameplate previously serving as the flagship trim of the Lincoln Continental. Produced across three generations for thirty model years, the Town Car was marketed directly against luxury sedans from Cadillac and Chrysler.

Marketed nearly exclusively as a four-door sedan (a two-door sedan was offered for 1981 only), many examples of the Town Car were used for fleet and livery (limousine) service. From 1983 to its 2011 discontinuation, the Town Car was the longest car produced by Ford worldwide, becoming the longest mass-production car sold in North America from 1997 to 2011. While not a direct successor of the Town Car, the Lincoln MKS would become the longest American sedan until 2016 (overtaken by the Cadillac CT6).

From 1980 until 2007, the Lincoln Town Car was assembled in Wixom, Michigan, (Wixom Assembly) alongside the Lincoln Continental, LS, and Mark VI, VII, and VIII. After Wixom's closure, Town Car production moved to Southwold, Ontario, (St. Thomas Assembly) alongside the similar Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. The final Lincoln Town Car was produced on August 29, 2011.

Within the Lincoln model line, the Town Car was not directly replaced; the nameplate was used from 2012 to 2019 to denote livery/limousine/hearse variants of the Lincoln MKT. For 2017, the revived Continental replaced the MKS, closely matching the Town Car in wheelbase and width.

MY FAMILY AND I WERE TERRIFIED AND I WAS VERY HAPPY THAT MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING. IF HE DIDN'T DRIVE I AM SURE THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL CAR ACCIDENT. AS THIS HAPPENED, CAR SWERVED INTO LANE TO LEFT AND WE WERE SIDE-SWIPED BY A VAN. THE VAN DID NOT STOP, NO ONE STOPPED. WE WERE THERE FOR QUITE AWHILE BUT NO POLICE CAME. WE JUST WANTED TO GET HOME. OTHER OBVIOUS DAMAGE WAS THE DRIVERS FRONT END. TOOK TO SALVAGE YARD BECAUSE WE WERE NOT AWARE OF THE SAFETY RECALL AND THAT IT WAS NOT DONE ON THIS CAR. THIS CAR HAD NO COLLISION ON IT BECAUSE IT WAS "OLDER" DID FINALLY REPORT TO INSURANCE JUST TO HAVE ON RECORD. IF WE KNEW ABOUT THE RECALL ON THIS I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY 2 & 4 YEAR OLD SONS IN THIS "SAFE" CAR. I WOULD HAVE DONE DIRECTLY TO DEALER IF I KNEW ABOUT RECALL. HAVE TRIED GOING THROUGH DEALER RECENTLY AND CALLING LINCOLN'S 800# TO SPEAK WITH THEIR CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT. NO ONE IS CLAIMING ANY KIND OF RESPONSIBILITY AND YET IN MY MIND WE WERE ALMOST KILLED. I NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT THE RECALL. ONLY THE PREVIOUS OWNERS APPARANTLY RECEIVED ONE. I'M SURE LINCOLN WOULD PAY ATTENTION IF SOMEONE WAS KILLED DUE TO A SAFETY RECALL. HOW CAN I GET LINCOLN TO MAKE MY CAR SAFE AND REIMBURSE ME FOR MONEY I DID PAY OUT DUE TO THIS OCCURRENCE -- THEY WON'T EVEN LOOK AT THE PART OF THE CAR THAT WAS RECALLED BECAUSE I HAD GONE TO A SALVAGE YARD TO HAVE HOOD REPLACED, WINDSHIELD REPLACED AND FRONT END DRIVERS HEADLIGHT REPLACED. *AK

Negative 1990 Lincoln Town car car reviews

  1. Ford Connelly 2024-09-04

I have driven this car all over Canada and other places. I recently installed new airbags for the shocks, which can be a recurring issue to replace at a cost of $500. The bags tend to rub and eventually need replacement, with the frequency depending on conditions, ranging from 45k-80k. Unfortunately, the airbag motor now needs to be replaced. The starter went out before 80k, and the power windows can be slow or unresponsive. The battery is positioned differently than most cars. The paint job fades quickly, which is disappointing. The interior ceiling and speaker covers are also showing signs of wear. However, the engine itself is reliable and durable. While there have been some issues, with proper maintenance, this car can still be a great investment. It is important to keep in mind that some repairs may be necessary, but the low initial price makes it a worthwhile consideration.

Positive 1990 Lincoln Town car car reviews

  1. Lucious Doyle 2025-01-07

At first, it wasn't my favorite body style. However, I bought it because it was cheap. But, boy, has it grown on me! I'm known to own Fords, and my favorite was a '77 LTD. But, this one has definitely taken its place, big time! The tires and Dayton wires add to the fun of displaying it, and it is exceptionally clean. I couldn't have found a better car, especially for the money I paid. It's a great investment!

  2. Freeman Crona 2025-01-04

I've had this car for a year and a half now. When I bought it, it had 140K on it and cost me around $2300. Since then, I've put 34K on it and invested around $3K in maintenance. Unfortunately, the air suspension and fuel pump needed replacing right after I bought it, and the dealer charged me a lot for the repairs. However, I've found a small shop that I go to now. Over time, I've had to replace the AC clutch, water pump, evaporator core, and condenser on the AC, and I even converted it to R134 coolant. Just last week, the driver's power window and the AC (probably the compressor) stopped working. Despite all of this, I still love the car and would hate to give it up. However, with the hot weather and the cost of repairs adding up, it might be time to consider other options. That being said, it's still been more affordable than buying even the cheapest new car.

  3. Keagan Cummings 2024-07-11

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to let you know that I bought a 1990 town car in 2016 and it's been a great ride ever since! Despite having 191000 miles on it, this car is still going strong. It's incredibly comfortable and roomy, making it perfect for long drives. While it may not be the fastest car out there, it's definitely a solid built tank that can handle anything. I've had to replace a few parts over the years, such as the power steering pump, water pump, starter, and belts, but it's still running smoothly. One of the things I love most about this car is how quiet it is - even at full acceleration, you can barely hear it! While the 4.6 liter engine was more powerful, the 5 liter was definitely smoother. Thanks for listening to me gush about my car - have a great day!

  4. Remington Kemmer 2024-06-24

142800 miles runs like 20,000. The 5.0 engine is great.

  5. Izaiah Johns 2024-06-22

I have only owned this car a month, but I am already in love with it! The ride is the smoothest I have ever experienced. Even though it is a 1990 model with 130,000 miles, it runs like a champ! This is definitely the best used car I have ever bought!
