The Lincoln MKX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. Introduced in late 2006, the MKX ("X" stands for "crossover") is the first crossover SUV offered by the Lincoln brand. Initially the smallest Lincoln SUV, it has been slotted between the Lincoln Corsair and the Lincoln Aviator. It is the Lincoln counterpart of the Ford Edge crossover across both generations.

The first-generation MKX was produced from 2007 to 2015, based upon the CD3 platform. The second generation is based on the CD4 platform. Both generations of the MKX were manufactured at Oakville Assembly in Oakville, Ontario, Canada alongside the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT.

As Lincoln phased out its use of "MK" model names, the MKX adopted the Lincoln Nautilus nameplate as part of a mid-cycle update in 2018 for the 2019 model year.

This can be a serious issue and should be addressed promptly to ensure safe driving conditions.
  • Airbag system problems: The 2007 Lincoln MKX has had issues with its airbag system, including non-deployment and the use of calcium sulfate in the airbags, which can lead to instability and potential explosions. This is a significant safety issue and should be addressed promptly.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-11
  • Number Of Injuries: 1
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 2LMDU88C67B
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: My 2007 Lincoln MKX had an SUA and within 10 feet totaled the front end when it was thrust into a cement building. This happened On [XXX] and the vehicle is available for inspection here in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. In 2010 Lincoln implemented an override device to the brake system knowing of the problem and there was no recall for vehicles prior to 2010. My safety was put at risk and that of others. If someone had been exiting the store or walking down the sidewalk they could have been killed. I am suffering with physical and mental problems as a result of this. Police report also states this was definitely a vehicle malfunction. There were no warning signs prior to the incident. Claim has been filed with the Office of General Council at Lincoln, but remains unresolved to date. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-11
  • Number Of Injuries: 1
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 2LMDU88C67B
  • Components: AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: My 2007 Lincoln MKX was in Drive with the brake depressed waiting to back up into a traffic lane from an angled parking space in front of a small shop in our historic downtown area. Suddenly, the vehicle accelerated forward at a high rate of speed jumping the shallow curb and slamming into the cement foundation of the store. Continuing to depress the brakes made no difference in stopping the jarring unintended forward motion. The speed moving forward was so high that in the 10-12 feet from the curb to the store entrance the impact demolished the entire front of the vehicle even bending the front axels. The airbags did not deploy at all. The witness interviewed, reported loud screeching tires as her back was to the scene during the collision. Local PD, EMS and Fire all responded, with a full police report filed. It was extremely fortunate no person was either on the sidewalk or in the entrance to the storefront. My injuries included severe bruising to the right side of my neck, as well as a hematoma on my right tibia and an oblique fracture to bones in my right foot. There were no passengers in the car with me. The accident, and extreme concern over the malfunction of the vehicle allowing it to take control away from myself as the driver, has been reported to Ford Lincoln and a claim number established. My insurance company took possession of the vehicle from the tow lot after three days after determining it was a total loss. To reiterate, there was no warning at all before the incident. I was simply waiting for traffic to clear, so I could put the vehicle from Drive into Reverse and pull out of the parking space.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-05-01
  • VIN: 2LMDU88C87B
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: I purchased the vehicle a few months ago from a small used dealership in Anderson, SC. The seller/owner raved about the condition of the car and all seemed well until after the purchase when I discovered there was an Open Recall for the driver's airbag. However, when I contacted the local Ford dealership and the NHTSA website I found there is "No Remedy" available from Ford. According to various websites, I find that the risk factor is listed as RED due to the extreme temp variation and perpetual humidity in South Carolina, but some state is getting these replacement bags, though not here. We do not have a garage or carport so the car is outside and subject to all the variations constantly. I can find no means of notifying Ford that I am the new owner of this VIN so will never receive the mandated mail notification. I am elderly and do not believe I should have to wait until there is an explosion in order to get some action. Takata cannot be the only manufacturer of airbags. My vehicle needs to be made safe NOW and not THEN. Somehow I would bet that a bag is available if I were able to afford it on my own.

Additionally, unless included in "Zone A" or "Zone B" above, Ford is recalling certain 2007-2008 Ford Ranger, Edge and Lincoln MKX, 2006-2008 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ, 2005-2008 Ford Mustang and 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in the states of Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. • Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. Interim letters informing owners of the recall and that parts are not yet available began mailing March 1, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Factory ordered. We're sorry to hear that you've experienced some issues with your vehicle. We've fixed the passenger door air noise and rattle, as well as the defective molding on the interior. We've also addressed the issue with the air conditioner hose that was causing the driver floor to become soaked. However, we understand that you've encountered some additional problems, such as the rear tailgate no longer opening automatically and transmission slipping. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you could bring your vehicle in, we would be happy to take a look and see what we can do to help. In terms of fuel efficiency, you're getting 21.7 MPG on the highway and 19 MPG in the city. Thank you for choosing our brand!

When purchasing this car, it is important to consider the legroom available, particularly if you are over 5'11''. While the gas mileage may not be exceptional, it is still an improvement over the Toyota Sequoia. The seats may be considered firm by some individuals.

  3. Brandt White 2024-10-18

I must say, I was expecting a better fuel economy from this car, given the 19/25 sticker. However, after driving it for 200 miles, I have noticed that it only gets around 11.8 MPG, even when I drive carefully. In fact, after 2000 miles, the mileage has dropped to around 10/11 MPG. This is quite disappointing, especially since I do a lot of freeway driving with no traffic. On the bright side, the car is very comfortable and luxurious, although it does use up a lot of gas. If I had known about the low mileage, I might not have made the purchase, but overall, I still enjoy driving it.

  4. Jacey Kessler 2024-09-23

Although we were initially hopeful about the improved gas mileage, we have found the seats to be quite uncomfortable and lacking in leg room, particularly for taller individuals. Additionally, the lack of a handle on the passenger side has been a source of frustration for my wife. Overall, we would not choose to purchase this car again.

I really like the appearance of the truck, but unfortunately, it has been in the shop more frequently than any other car I've owned. I've had to replace three turn signal lights in less than two years, and there's a noticeable 'clunk' in the transmission from time to time. Recently, the truck has been cutting off while idling in traffic, which is quite concerning. Although the dealership reset the computer and it ran well for a few weeks, it stalled again this morning during rush hour traffic, which was very dangerous. As a result, I'm planning to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Hey there! I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your new MKX, even with the big changes from your previous Navigator. I hope you'll get better gas mileage soon! I totally agree with you that Lincoln makes great cars - I'd buy anything they make! By the way, I think the grille looks awesome, even better than the Ford Edge. Although, I do agree that the interior could use a little less plastic and a bit more bling. Also, it would be great if the tailgate window could open. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!

  3. Wallace Mills 2024-11-10

This is a fantastic vehicle with a fast and quiet engine. Lincoln has once again delivered its signature smooth ride. I've noticed that I tend to speed when I'm behind the wheel, not realizing how fast I'm traveling. It's amazing how many looks this SUV gets, and my passengers have noticed it too.

My wife did all the research and selected this car over the Mazda CX-9 and Highlander. We got the Creme' Brulee with Camel interior and she just loves it. The sticker price was just over $39,000 and we were able to do the deal for $35,000 even. We went to the dealer equipped with the Edmunds TMV analysis and it saved us quite a bit of haggling. We also drove the Edge, but the Lincoln suspension and interior quality is a big upgrade. It doesn't feel like the same vehicle. We really like the Vista roof and heated/cooled seats. My wife thinks it's nearly like a convertible. The reliability has been excellent and we like the fact that it burns regular gas. All in all, it's a very nice package.

  5. Darrel Boyle 2024-10-11

Haven't had it long but I absolutely love the way it drives! However, I did notice that the front seats need to be replaced as soon as possible. Both the driver's seat and the passenger's seat are tipped up where the back of your knee is, which can cause your legs to tingle and even fall asleep after driving for just 45 minutes. Not good! It would be great if there was a lever designed to allow for a movement that tips the seat down.
