2017 Lincoln Mkc problems

The Lincoln MKC is a compact premium crossover from Lincoln. Lincoln launched the MKC concept at the 2013 LA Auto Show and the production model officially went on sale in June 2014. The MKC is built upon the Ford Global C platform, shared with the Ford Escape small SUV.
For the 2020 model year, the MKC was replaced by the Lincoln Corsair, as Lincoln transitioned away from "MK" model nomenclatures.
Model overview
Lincoln unveiled the MKC concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2013. The MKC went on sale in the summer of 2014 as a 2015 model. It is assembled at Louisville Assembly Plant. According to the manufacturer, the MKC further refines Lincoln's design traits originally embodied on the second generation MKZ.
For the 2016 model year, Lincoln replaced the MyLincoln Touch infotainment system with the SYNC 3 system. On the Select trim level, the power liftgate was made standard. For versions with the 2.3L engine, maximum towing capacity was increased to 3000 pounds.
For 2017, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were added to the SYNC 3 system and power liftgate and automatic brake hold were made standard.
For 2018, Lincoln added the Lincoln Connect 4G Wi-Fi system (standard on all trims). Premium models received four way power lumbar control for the driver seat and power lumbar was added for both seats on Select and higher trims.

- VIN: 5LMCJ3D94HU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Lincoln/Ford knowingly designed an engine where the head gasket is unable to properly seal and overtime causes intrusion of coolant into the cyclinder causing overheating. This results in the need to replace the ENTIRE engine block. They are aware of the issue and continued to build these engines with the KNOWN safety issue from 2017 - 2020 on not only Lincolns but Fords. The dealerships are aware of the issues, the corporate companies are aware of the safety issues and still there is no recall on these. They wont even help pay for the new engine. My car only has 43,000 miles on it! I should not be replacing an engine already for this known safety issue. This should be recalled immediately. I was driving my young children 3 and 1 around when the coolant overheated and it could have or ceised as I am driving or caught on fire. Someone should not have to die in order for a recall to happen. Lincoln/Ford need to make this right before someone dies. They knew of this issue when they designed it and continued to make them until 2020.

- Summary: Started with a rough start in the morning. Check engine went on and took to Advanced Auto to have code checks: P0302 1/3 Stored Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected DTC Severity 2 of 3. Repair immediately if drivability issues are present. Threat to essential. I immediately went to our Ford Dealer who has been maintaining our vehicle. First thing they did was open the hood and told me to keep an eye open for the antifreeze level. He then told me that they have problems from 2017-2019 with these 2.0L Ecoboost engines - Coolant, white exhaust smoke and/or Illuminated MIL. He stated that they do not fix this engine, and provided me a 13 page report and wrote and estimate for $6,500 + tax to have the engine replaced. I have 60,000 miles on my 2017 Lincoln MKC. I drive 14 miles to work and back 3 times a week. I baby this car. This engine should not need to be replaced after 60,000. I bought the car in 2020. On December 19, 2019, Ford has technical service bulletin #19-2346 and it appears that do not disclose this to avoid fixing under their 6 year or 70,000 mile warranty. This is really unacceptable on Ford's part. Shame on Ford for not creating a recall for this engine failure. We customers should not have to pay for a newly designed engine after Ford knew that this engine was a failure. I am demanding Ford to look into this engine problem. This is unacceptable!!! I am requesting for Ford to pay for my newly redesigned engine. Bill Ford has a statement on Ford Motor Company's website: We see no conflict between business goals and social and environmental needs. I believe the distinction between a good company and a great one is this: A good company delivers excellent products and services. A great one delivers excellent products and services and strives to make the world a better place. - Summary: I purchased 2017 Lincoln MKC new almost immediately had electrical issues with it that has stayed throughout the vehicles life. At about 55,000 miles my car started acting up like it was misfiring. I took it to Lincoln and twice they said they couldn’t feel anything. I left the car over night because it mainly happened in morning starting up and going a certain speed. Lincoln called me and said it was something with transmission and they would fix it. The problem did not get better. At approximately 70,000 miles my engine light came on and I took it to be read. It read cylinder 1 misfire. I changed out my plugs and coils and had light reset. Light came back on at 71,000 engine over heating. I added/filled engine coolant. Light came on off and it was chalked up to an electrical issue they couldn’t find. I have had to refill my coolant several times as it drains quick in sumner heat and I have had to change my plugs and coils again. My car was recently at a Lincoln and they noted my spark plug and coils on the floor. They asked me about the radiator fluid and I explained what has been happening to my car since 55,000 miles. I was told that Lincoln is well aware that this is a problem with the MKC with radiator fluid leaking causing it to leak into out plugs, cause misfire and eventually seize the engine but there has not been a recall, leaving buyers stuck. My issue is that I went to dealership with these problems but was ignored and told it was something else. Lincoln purposly blamed the issue on something else so my warranty would be done and they wouldn’t have to cover the cost. They knew about this issue and purposely pushed it off so they would not be responsible.

- Summary: Engine light came on.Noticed some hesitation. Took to the dealer. Was diagnosed as coolant intrusion into engine. Engine could have failed on the highway or exploded. After investigating & seeing other incidents like this on-line, I noticed there were fires & breakdowns that did occur. I called Ford/Lincoln to report. They are aware of issue, but would not cover the repair even though they have been aware of the issue for years. Bought my certified 2017 Lincoln MKC in 2020 with 25k miles with extended warranty; Currently has 68k miles. I had extended warranty thru Feb 2024, and was not aware it had expired. If my warranty was still current & had less than 70k miles, it would have been covered. I believe there should have been a recall on this type of engine. I believe that FORD/LINCOLN is responsible for the repair.

The vehicle has 61,000 miles and I am now told, by the dealership, it has coolant intrusion. Again the vehicle was taken to the same Lincoln dealership that did the original work. Research seems to show the 2017 Lincoln MKC has a known issue. Ford has technical service bulletin # 19-2346 released 19 December 2019 and it appears that do not disclose this to avoid fixing under their 6 year or 70,000 mile warranty. Two months after purchase of my 2017 MKC, had to have the short block replaced, under warranty, but the head was already warped and they replaced the head gasket on a warped block knowing it was only a matter of time that it started leaking. I love this car! Sync makes everything easy, from accessing phones to reading text messages out loud and navigation. Plus, the Reserve model is all about luxury. It feels like an expensive car. My parents have Lexus and Acura SUVs, but the MKC is much more comfortable.
-
Hi there! I just wanted to share with you how much I love the Lincoln Motor Company. My parents bought their first Lincoln Continental back in 1970, and ever since then, I've owned or leased eight different models! While I absolutely adore the Continentals for their amazing technology, my age and physical limitations mean that I have to stick with SUVs. That's why I'm so excited about the MKC - it's the perfect choice for me, especially since I'm trying to be more environmentally friendly. I'm really looking forward to treating myself to this amazing car in the twilight of my life!

The MKC is a pleasant surprise, especially when compared to the Audi Q5. While some professional reviews have been mixed, I believe that most of the criticisms are not valid. The interior materials are every bit as good as the Germans and Japanese, with the MKC's leather being superior to the Q5's base leather. If anything is lacking inside, it's the aesthetic design. Lincoln needs to get a bit more creative in that regard to match the Europeans. Although I'm not crazy about the center stack design, it looks better in person than in pictures. The exterior design is best in class, except arguably the Macan in my opinion. Many reviews claim the MKC is slow compared to competitors, but it certainly doesn't feel it. My 2.0 MKC feels just as fast as my Q5 2.0 did. The features for the money are incredible. If you want a small SUV that drives like a sports car, the BMX X3 or Porsche Macan are for you. However, most people don't need that. On the minus side, the backseat is uninhabitable by anyone with legs if you're sitting behind a 6 footer like me. Lincoln has to do a better job on the packaging. Also, the driver left footrest is oddly shaped and not big enough for someone with larger feet. The view out the back is also not so great, but that's common in these newer designs with higher beltlines. Lastly, the optional 2.3 engine didn't feel any quicker than the 2.0, making it not worth its $1k cost in my opinion. These are minor quibbles, and overall, the MKC is a great choice for anyone looking for a small SUV with excellent features and a pleasant driving experience.Comparing the Reserve MKC to a BMW X5, Audi Q5 or Mercedes GLC, you'll find that the latter options cost about $6k more. While some may argue that these German vehicles are superior, it's hard to justify the extra cost. Additionally, some of these options lack the advanced technology that the MKC offers. The Acura RSX, Porsche Macan, and Range Rover Evoque are all overpriced and lack personality, while the Lexus NX is unattractive and has limited equipment options. Lincoln has truly created a competitive option in this class. Lastly, for those concerned about fuel efficiency, it's important to note that new cars, especially those with turbo engines, tend to have lower mileage during the break-in period. This will improve after the first few hundred miles.

My husband and I purchased the MKC to replace his aging luxury car that had been garage-kept for over 15 years. We considered several other luxury cars such as the BMW X3, Audi Q3 and Lexus NX, but were pleasantly surprised by the MKC when we test drove it. Despite official reviews claiming that the MKC was just a 're-badged Ford Escape', we found it to be far from it. We purchased the 2017 MKC Reserve AWD with the Tow, Technology and Climate Packages and have been amazed by the technology it offers. The Sync3 system is intuitive and responsive, and we love that it works with our Android and iPhones. The safety features like BLIS with cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, radar cruise control, etc., have been a huge help, and we appreciate that some of the annoying features can be turned off. The comfort of the MKC has been a pleasant surprise, and we love the heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel. The MKC has been excellent and solid when driving in the snow or poor weather conditions, and the panoramic sunroof is a great feature. Even my father, who has owned nothing but BMW and Lexus for ages, likes the sleek design and interior quality of the MKC. Although the sound system could be better, we have no other complaints. Overall, this is one of the nicest and best vehicles either of us has owned so far, and we look forward to being long-term customers as long as Lincoln keeps up the good work.
-
Comfortable, quiet ride, good visibility and easy handling - these are the qualities that best describe the MKC. As someone who has just purchased their first Lincoln, I can confidently say that I would definitely consider buying another one in the future.

When using Car Play, the vehicle's navigation cannot be used and instead, the Maps on your phone must be used. Additionally, the SIRI function may not always work correctly when trying to make a phone call. It's worth noting that the car does not have a heat vent near the driver's door, which can make it feel colder on that side. While the turn radius may not be as tight as some other vehicles, the SUV still handles well. In snowy conditions, the AWD may not perform as well as expected. The gas mileage is also not as good as hoped, with a maximum of 20 mpg. Overall, there are some areas for improvement, but it's still a decent car.
Robb Zboncak 2024-11-26
This Lincoln model has been a disappointment. The car is uncomfortable, with a small amount of leg room in the back seat that makes it difficult for adults to sit comfortably. Even my baby's car seat barely fits. The hatch back will not lift manually after just 15 months, and the engine noise is much louder than my old car. Additionally, the controls are not very user-friendly, and the design has become outdated quickly. As a confident statement, I cannot wait to get rid of this car.
Delmer Reichert 2024-11-20
The ride may feel a bit stiff, even in Comfort setting, and the gas tank may be a bit small for long distance travel without stopping for gas. Additionally, the back seat room may be marginal for two adults and the front seats may not be the most comfortable for extended trips. However, the Model selection didn't list our 2.3L AWD Select. Despite these minor drawbacks, we still found something attractive about purchasing a Ford product. It's worth noting that the trunk may be a bit small for weekend travel bags and the mileage may not reach EPA estimates, especially highway MPG. We sold it on 12/22!
Johnathan O'Reilly 2024-11-11
Our iPhones are not compatible with SYNC, and the back seat area has limited leg room. However, we are actively addressing these issues to ensure a better experience for our customers. Thank you for your feedback.

The EcoBoost engine in my car failed after 50,320 miles, which unfortunately occurred after the expiration of the 6-year powertrain warranty. The cost of replacing the engine was over $7,500. It is worth noting that many other individuals have experienced the same issue, and there is currently a class action lawsuit against Ford Lincoln regarding this matter. It is recommended to exercise caution when considering purchasing a Lincoln EcoBoost or any car with this engine.
