Model overview
Lincoln unveiled the MKC concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2013. The MKC went on sale in the summer of 2014 as a 2015 model. It is assembled at Louisville Assembly Plant. According to the manufacturer, the MKC further refines Lincoln's design traits originally embodied on the second generation MKZ.

For 2017, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were added to the SYNC 3 system and power liftgate and automatic brake hold were made standard.
For 2018, Lincoln added the Lincoln Connect 4G Wi-Fi system (standard on all trims). Premium models received four way power lumbar control for the driver seat and power lumbar was added for both seats on Select and higher trims.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-04
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-09
- VIN: 5LMCJ2C96JU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: I purchased the automobile on [XXX] with 44,175 miles. When the engine light came on recently, I took it to the Lincoln dealer here in Las Vegas, paid $205 for the computer to be assessed, and was told the problem was coolant leaking into the engine. They were not able to start any repairs at that time. I was not told what it would cost to repair or the time involved. I assumed it was an air conditioning problem. I drove it a few days and the engine light went off, only to come back on. I then took it to AAA ($177 for the diagnosis), reporting that cylinder 3 had coolant leaking. Tech found TSB 19-2172 TSB. 19-2172 is for current symptoms of misfire at start-up. It was suggested that I take it to the Lincoln dealer. While driving the car home on [XXX], the engine was missing, chugging. I was afraid it would stall. I am thankful it did not stall on the freeway and that I made it home safely. When I called the Lincoln dealer to make an appointment to take the car in for service, I was told it would take three or four weeks to get it repaired, that the engine would have to be replaced for $7,800 - $9,800, and that Lincoln Motor Company will not take any responsibility. He said there were two other vehicles in line with the same problem. Due to being afraid to drive it, I had the car towed by AAA on Monday, October 7, 2024, to the Lincoln dealer and was told the estimate to repair it would be $8,493. This is a coolant intrusion issue due to a faulty design in the engine block where the cooling channels will crack and leak coolant into the piston chambers. As gleaned from the Internet, this appears to have been an ongoing problem with this model. I've observed so far from the Internet that Lincoln Motor Company is not taking responsibility for this faulty design affecting many Lincoln owners. I am [XXX], and living on a fixed income. I had to rent a car and put up a $735 deposit. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-03
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-03
- VIN: 5LMCJ1C91JU

- Summary: The contact owns a 2018 Lincoln MKC. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive coolant consumption. Additionally, the contact noticed that there was an abnormal coolant odor inside the cabin of the vehicle while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with coolant leaking onto the ignition coil #2. The mechanic replaced the spark plugs, and the ignition coil #2 was replaced several times; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to coolant intrusion in the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

- Summary: My Lincoln MKC 2019 2.0 EcoBoost with just 37k miles show and engine light. Dealership diagnostic was PC0301. Misfire on the cylinder number 1. The solution? Engine replacement with a cost of $9,000 USD. Due to a well know problem. Coolant leak. I can not afford to pay this amount, and unfortunately the vehicle is not under warranty. Ford Motor Company knows this issue and still isn’t doing anything to help owners that are out of warranty. Surely is not a problem cause by the user, is a defect from factory. This problem also affects Canadian market and Mexico.

Lincoln Mkc 2018
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-01
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-08
- VIN: 5LMCJ4C99JU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: After the original 2.0L EcoBoost in my MKC Black Label failed from coolant intrusion around 37,500 miles in May 2023, the replacement engine my dealer installed also failed from coolant intrusion. This time, it failed in July 2024 after less than 5,000 miles. Like the first engine failure, the check engine light illuminated, but this time, the code I saw was P0300 random cylinder misfire. Like last time, the dealer performed a cooling system pressurization test, and the engine failed the test. They also did a borescope inspection and saw coolant leaking into cylinder three's combustion chamber. They also found rust pitting in the cylinder walls. Like last time, they replaced the $7,000+ long block. This failed replacement engine was assembled in March 2023 via the engine code information sticker, with the block part number J2GE 6006 AC, which Ford's TSB 22-2229 states technicians should use. The engine currently in my car, the second replacement, was assembled in April 2024, having the same block part number of J2GE 6006 AC as the first replacement engine assembled in March 2023. In other words, the dealer installed an engine with the same block part number as the one that failed on me in less than 5,000 miles. All three of my MKC's engines are assembled at Ford's Valencia engine plant in Spain. I'm afraid this second engine replacement will also fail, and I'll have to pay the full cost. In the less than three years I've owned this car, these engine replacements have cost $14,000+. I can't believe how many owners have experienced this coolant intrusion problem, as the 2.0L EcoBoost is used in many models. And it's not just the 2.0L; it's also other variants such as the 1.5L, 1.6L, and 2.3L. I hope Ford will do the right thing and recall these engines, or NHTSA will open an investigation and force a recall. Please help us owners, NHTSA, as there are many, many more of us out there suffering from these notorious engine problems that Ford doesn't want to deal with.

- Summary: The contact owns a 2017 Lincoln MKC. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle failed to start while pressing the Start button on the key fob. The contact was able to start the vehicle while pressing the Push to Start button inside the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the vehicle was experiencing excessive coolant consumption. The mechanic diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion in cylinder #2. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where the same assessment was made, and the dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.

- Summary: I have the 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 (assembled December 2017, engine block part number HV 206 AA) in my 2018 Lincoln MKC Black Label. The head gasket failed at 37,000 miles in May 2023, according to my Ford/Lincoln dealer. It started as intermittent misfiring/running rough with the check engine light illuminated. My scanner detected the code P0301 cylinder one misfire. My coolant reservoir tank level also gradually decreased, with no visible leakage. After waiting weeks to have my engine looked at, they confirmed that cylinder 1 was burning coolant as it failed Ford's cooling system pressurization test. A borescope test also proved that the coolant was leaking into cylinder one's combustion chamber. At this point, I've learned from many complaints online that these engines are notorious for suffering coolant intrusion even at low mileage, and Ford refuses to issue a recall despite this well-known issue that also plagues other EcoBoost I-4 variants. This well-known coolant intrusion problem affecting many Ford and Lincoln models is a costly safety issue for owners. Ford needs to do the right thing and recall these engines. I bought the car in December 2021 with 30,000 miles from a Lincoln dealer in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it was CPO, so the extended warranty covered the engine replacement (long block). Had this not been under warranty, I would have paid more than $7,000. Most owners are not fortunate like me to have a warranty cover this repair. The replacement engine in my MKC now was assembled in March 2023 via the engine code information sticker, with the block part number J2GE 6006 AC.

This vehicle manages well. It has a smooth ride and accelerates wonderfully on the highway. The driving features are easily accessible while maneuvering the car without taking your eyes off the road. It's a nice SUV that rides almost like floating on air. I truly enjoy driving this vehicle. Additionally, I love my panoramic view.

The Lincoln MKX is an awesome car, even the lowest end model of 3 choices: Premiere, Select and Reserve. However, it may be a little small for backseat leg room and if you need to put golf clubs behind second row in cargo area. I am personally trading in my Lincoln MKC in 4 months for a 2018 Lincoln MKX or 2019 Nautilus which is taking the place of the MKX (for branding I think). The light up Lincoln puddle light as you approach the car is slick too, as is the display panel and sound system with Bluetooth and 3-4 USB ports. Mine’s grey with black interior, but I will likely get a black one with black interior. I also had a great experience with the dealership in Atlanta. Let me know if you have any questions!

I love this car! Sync makes everything easy, from accessing phones to reading text messages out loud and navigation. Plus, the Reserve model is all about luxury. It feels like an expensive car. My parents have Lexus and Acura SUVs, but the MKC is much more comfortable.

I've owned my 2017 Lincoln MKC since July of 2016, and it has been trouble-free since day one. I've kept up with the required maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotations, and that's all it has needed. Although Lincoln no longer produces this model, I plan to purchase the new Corsair in a few years, as it closely resembles my beloved MKC. With only 28,000 miles on it, my MKC still has plenty of life left in it! While it can be a bit cramped in the back with three people, I typically only drive around town. If I need to go further, I usually ride with friends, as there are usually five of us.

This Lincoln model has been a disappointment. The car is uncomfortable, with a small amount of leg room in the back seat that makes it difficult for adults to sit comfortably. Even my baby's car seat barely fits. The hatch back will not lift manually after just 15 months, and the engine noise is much louder than my old car. Additionally, the controls are not very user-friendly, and the design has become outdated quickly. As a confident statement, I cannot wait to get rid of this car.

The EcoBoost engine in my car failed after 50,320 miles, which unfortunately occurred after the expiration of the 6-year powertrain warranty. The cost of replacing the engine was over $7,500. It is worth noting that many other individuals have experienced the same issue, and there is currently a class action lawsuit against Ford Lincoln regarding this matter. It is recommended to exercise caution when considering purchasing a Lincoln EcoBoost or any car with this engine.

The ride may feel a bit stiff, even in Comfort setting, and the gas tank may be a bit small for long distance travel without stopping for gas. Additionally, the back seat room may be marginal for two adults and the front seats may not be the most comfortable for extended trips. However, the Model selection didn't list our 2.3L AWD Select. Despite these minor drawbacks, we still found something attractive about purchasing a Ford product. It's worth noting that the trunk may be a bit small for weekend travel bags and the mileage may not reach EPA estimates, especially highway MPG. We sold it on 12/22!

Our iPhones are not compatible with SYNC, and the back seat area has limited leg room. However, we are actively addressing these issues to ensure a better experience for our customers. Thank you for your feedback.
