The Lincoln MKC is a compact premium crossover from Lincoln. Lincoln launched the MKC concept at the 2013 LA Auto Show and the production model officially went on sale in June 2014. The MKC is built upon the Ford Global C platform, shared with the Ford Escape small SUV.

For the 2020 model year, the MKC was replaced by the Lincoln Corsair, as Lincoln transitioned away from "MK" model nomenclatures.

Model overview

Lincoln unveiled the MKC concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2013. The MKC went on sale in the summer of 2014 as a 2015 model. It is assembled at Louisville Assembly Plant. According to the manufacturer, the MKC further refines Lincoln's design traits originally embodied on the second generation MKZ.

For the 2016 model year, Lincoln replaced the MyLincoln Touch infotainment system with the SYNC 3 system. On the Select trim level, the power liftgate was made standard. For versions with the 2.3L engine, maximum towing capacity was increased to 3000 pounds.

For 2017, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were added to the SYNC 3 system and power liftgate and automatic brake hold were made standard.

For 2018, Lincoln added the Lincoln Connect 4G Wi-Fi system (standard on all trims). Premium models received four way power lumbar control for the driver seat and power lumbar was added for both seats on Select and higher trims.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-10-23
  • VIN: 5LMCJ2C90GU
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: My 2016 Lincoln MKC has a recall. Recall was mailed to me and I called closest Lincoln dealership to begin process. Dealership stated part was on back order and I would get a call when it comes in. I called a few weeks later and still no luck. I attempted calling several times with no luck. Fast forward 2-3 months after calling, I’m driving with my son and out of nowhere the car begins to stall while driving and fumes start coming out from air vents. It was an awful and strong smell. As I pulled over the check engine and battery light came on. I had vehicle towed to dealership which they return with a catalytic converter code. I paid to get replaced and get a call that car is good to go, but recall part is still not available. Picked up my vehicle and didn’t make it more than .5 miles I realized my car is stalling and will not go past 40mph. Take it back, employees look dumbfounded and ask me to leave car and they will get back to me. I get a call a week later stating I need a pigtail connector and all will be fixed. They change it out, I go pick up my car and still same condition. Leave dealership and wait on another call stating it is a whole electrical wire harness which needs to be changed. I am Told last week that it would be $1900 to repair! I still do not have my car back and feel as if it is a guessing game at my expense!

  • Summary: Had a flat tire. Tire could not be removed. The tin caps on the lug nuts have swelled. The lug nut wrench that Ford provided would not fit over the lug nuts. The AAA service that came out to help, also could not remove the lug nuts. I don't know how I will be able to get the car inspected. I also don't know how I will be able to have the brakes services or replaced. A very serious potential catastrophe. The equipment that Ford includes, with a car, should be able to do its job. I along with many other people are left with a serious problem. This is a problem Ford is aware of and will do nothing. Many Ford owners have this problem.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-01-02
  • VIN: 5LMCJ3D96GU
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
  • Summary: My car has had an engine light that comes on goes off throwing a code for Cylinder One Misfire since January 2023. It was 'repaired' at the dealership that I bought it from and they replaced the spark plugs and the coil and that did not stop the light from coming on and going on. I took it to another service center in my town and had it checked one of the times that the engine light was on and they used a camera and ran it through the system and found nothing wrong. It has now started to consume large amounts of coolant but I am not seeing a leak on the ground. I do not know where the coolant is going, I am now worried that it is going into the engine. I did purchase a warranty on the engine with the car but the Lincoln Dealership nearest to me will not accept the warranty because it is not a Ford/Lincoln warranty. I don't know what else to do am at a loss.

Negative 2016 Lincoln Mkc car reviews

  1. Mortimer O'Keefe 2024-08-20

Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience with Sir Collinn. It sounds like you haven't had the vehicle for very long, so it's understandable that you can't make a full evaluation just yet. However, you did mention some positives, such as the well-appointed passenger cabin and great acceleration from the four cylinder engine. It's also good to hear that there haven't been many repairs needed, aside from a loose oil filter and a punctured tire. The THX stereo system also sounds impressive! Thank you again for sharing your thoughts.

  2. Geovany Sanford 2024-01-06

I was disappointed to discover some sneaky rust at the bottom of the rear passenger door seam, despite taking great care of my vehicle. Although the car has been flawless mechanically and has a beautiful interior, the rust was unexpected and concerning. I purchased the car as a certified vehicle four years ago, but unfortunately, the warranty just ran out in May. When I reached out to the dealer, they directed me to contact Lincoln, but unfortunately, the response I received from the 'concierge' was not helpful. Despite my disappointment, I remain a loyal Ford/Lincoln customer and hope to find a resolution to this issue. However, if this is the way customers are treated on a $50,000 vehicle, I may have to consider other brands in the future. I have never experienced rust like this on a six-year-old car before, and it is not up to the standard I expect from Lincoln. Update 4/23: The car is still running great, but unfortunately, the rust issue persists. When my wife is ready for a new vehicle, we will be exploring other options beyond Lincoln.

Positive 2016 Lincoln Mkc car reviews

  1. Ryley Osinski 2024-11-12

The Lincoln MKX is an awesome car, even the lowest end model of 3 choices: Premiere, Select and Reserve. However, it may be a little small for backseat leg room and if you need to put golf clubs behind second row in cargo area. I am personally trading in my Lincoln MKC in 4 months for a 2018 Lincoln MKX or 2019 Nautilus which is taking the place of the MKX (for branding I think). The light up Lincoln puddle light as you approach the car is slick too, as is the display panel and sound system with Bluetooth and 3-4 USB ports. Mine’s grey with black interior, but I will likely get a black one with black interior. I also had a great experience with the dealership in Atlanta. Let me know if you have any questions!

I absolutely adore my 2016 MKC Reserve that I purchased used last March! It's the perfect size for my garage and driving needs, and it has all the amenities I could ever want. The rear hands-free lift gate, leather interior, auto off & on high beams, heated steering wheel, and elevated SUV seating are just a few of my favorite features. I also feel secure knowing that I have all-wheel drive in case of heavy snow. Although I don't use the cooled seats, the heated seats are a lifesaver in the winter. The gas mileage is decent, with 25 MPG in the summer and 23.7 MPG in the winter. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my 2016 MKC and all of its amazing features!

Great vehicle! I'm glad to hear that you would buy another one. It's wonderful to know that you found the ride to be very good and quite comfortable!

A small luxury SUV that is a class act.
