Hummer H2 2005 problems
The Hummer H2 is an full-size off-road sport utility vehicle (SUV) that was marketed by Hummer and built in the AM General facility under contract from General Motors from 2002 until 2009. It is based on a modified GMT820 GM three-quarter-ton pickup truck in the front and a half-ton 1500 frame in the rear. A four-door pickup truck version with a midgate that opens the vehicle's interior to the external cargo bed was introduced for the 2005 model year as the H2 SUT (sport utility truck).

IF THIS GETS WET, WHICH IT DOES, THE MODULE IS RUINED AND RENDERS THE AIRBAGS INOPERABLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE AND I AM SURE MANY OTHERS. IF THIS MODULE IS NOT IN WORKING ORDER IT HAS TO BE REPLACED, HOWEVER, GENERAL MOTORS HAS DISCONTINUED MAKING THE AIRBAG SENSOR DIAGNOSTIC MODULE FOR THE 2005 HUMMER H2 MODEL YEAR!. I AM SURE I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON (OWNER) CAUGHT UP IN THIS SITUATION. THE VEHICLE IS STILL OPERATIVE AND DRIVABLE. AIRBAG SENSOR DIAGNOSTIC MODULE SHOULD BE AVAILABLE AND MANUFACTURE SHOULD ENSURE IT IS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 10 YEARS OLD AND IF I OWNED A PRIOR YEAR THE MODULE IS STILL AVAILABLE. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF WHERE IT IS LOCATED IN THE VEHICLE AND MANUFACTURE KNOWLEDGE OF LEAK PROBLEMS, AND ONLY ONE YEAR DISCONTINUED. - Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HUMMER H2. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE HEATING ELEMENT TURNED ON WITHOUT WARNING AND FAILED TO TURN OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER THREE TIMES, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER SEAT MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,000.

- Summary: CERTAIN FABTECH AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT PITMAN ARMS, P/NOS. FTS71000 AND FTS71001, INSTALLED FOR USE ON CERTAIN 2001-2006 GM C/K 2500 PICK UP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE PIN LOCATED INSIDE THE PITMAN ARM CAN SHEAR OFF DUE TO A REVERSE BENDING FATIGUE CONDITION, RESULTING IN A TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.
- Consequence: LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE CRASH WITH POTENTIAL INJURY OR DEATH.
- Remedy: FABTECH WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE PITMAN AND IDLER ARMS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING FEBRUARY 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FABTECH AT 909-597-7800.

- Summary: ON CERTAIN CREW CAB PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE 2ND ROW CENTER OCCUPANT SEAT BELT ROUTING MAY MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO POSITION THE LAP PORTION OF THE SAFETY BELT LOW AROUND THE HIPS OF OCCUPANTS, ESPECIALLY SMALLER OCCUPANTS, SEATED IN THIS POSITION. APPROPRIATE USE OF A CHILD SEAT OR BOOSTER SEAT, AS RECOMMENDED FOR SMALL CHILDREN, DOES IMPROVE THE FIT CONDITION FOR THIS USER GROUP. IN ADDITION TO INSTRUCTIONS ON PROPER INFANT AND YOUNG CHILD RESTRAINT (WITH CHILD SEATS OR BOOSTERS), SPECIAL VERBIAGE FOR RESTRAINING OLDER CHILD IS INCLUDED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. ALSO, THE SUGGESTED SEAT BELT FIT/ROUTING FOR ADULTS, IRRESPECTIVE OF SEATING POSITION, IS DESCRIBED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL TEXT.
- Consequence: A LAP PORTION OF THE SEAT BELT ROUTING THAT IS NOT LOW AND SNUG ON THE HIPS CAN ALLOW THE LAP BELT TO RIDE UP ON AN OCCUPANT'S ABDOMEN INSTEAD OF FITTING LOW AROUND THEIR HIPBONES, AND THEREFORE, CAN EXPOSE THEM TO MORE RISK OF ABDOMINAL AND INTERNAL ORGAN INJURY.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL CUT OPEN THE GUIDE LOOP, REMOVE A PORTION OF THE LOOP, AND THEN THE REMAINING TWO SIDES SHOULD BE FOLDED OVER AND SECURED WITH A RETAINER FREE OF CHARGE. - Consequence: IF A SEPARATION OCCURRED AND THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE WERE OPEN, FRAGMENTS FROM THE ACCUMULATOR COULD CAUSE INJURY TO PEOPLE IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA. THE PRESENCE OF THIS CRACK OR FRACTURED SURFACE COULD ALLOW THE HYDRAULIC FLUID TO LEAK FROM THE ACCUMULATOR CIRCUIT OF THE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY. THE LOSS OF FLUID WOULD CAUSE INCREASED STEERING AND BRAKING EFFORT AND A CRASH MAY OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL TEST THE HYDRO-BOOST ASSEMBLY FOR FUNCTIONAL OPERATION OF THE TWO-FUNCTION VALVE. IF THE HYDRO-BOOST ASSEMBLY FAILS THE TEST, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. You've got yourself a great truck there! It's impressive how well it handles and accelerates despite its weight. I've owned many cars myself, but this one beats them all, including the Ranger Rover 4.6 HSE. The finish is nice, and the leather interior and climate control system are a great touch. On Star is also a nice feature to have. With the 3rd row seat, you can seat up to 6 people, or fold them down for tons of cargo space.

I have 4 sons (6,10,12,14). Needless to say, we carry lots of stuff such as baseball and band equipment, as well as lots of friends. Although the gas mileage is not the best, it's really not that painful for the type of driving I do, which consists mostly of short trips. I fill up about every two weeks. I absolutely love my H2 and it makes me feel very safe carrying my precious cargo!

This vehicle has overall met my expectations. Although there are some negatives such as the need for more front seat leg room, the lack of reclining 2nd row seats, and the poorly thought out interior jack location, there are also many positives. This vehicle performs as advertised and handles like a sports car. It is almost unstoppable, with the exception of water submersion. If you need to make a quick getaway, this is the vehicle for you. Just remember to fill up the tank at every opportunity. I would definitely buy it again.

If you're looking for a vehicle that turns heads, this is the one! However, if you're in need of something more practical, a Denali might be a better fit. I previously owned a 2003 Denali XL, but decided to trade it in for a 2005 H2. While I enjoy the way it handles, the power and ride quality don't quite match up to the Denali. Additionally, the cargo room is limited and there's less storage space overall. There are a few other minor inconveniences, such as the navigation screen pointing towards the passenger, the lack of a six-disc changer, and a slightly bouncy ride. Personally, I'm considering going back to a 2007 Denali XL as soon as they become available.
