UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-04
- VIN: 5LMCJ2C96JU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: I purchased the automobile on [XXX] with 44,175 miles. When the engine light came on recently, I took it to the Lincoln dealer here in Las Vegas, paid $205 for the computer to be assessed, and was told the problem was coolant leaking into the engine. They were not able to start any repairs at that time. I was not told what it would cost to repair or the time involved. I assumed it was an air conditioning problem. I drove it a few days and the engine light went off, only to come back on. I then took it to AAA ($177 for the diagnosis), reporting that cylinder 3 had coolant leaking. Tech found TSB 19-2172 TSB. 19-2172 is for current symptoms of misfire at start-up. It was suggested that I take it to the Lincoln dealer. While driving the car home on [XXX], the engine was missing, chugging. I was afraid it would stall. I am thankful it did not stall on the freeway and that I made it home safely. When I called the Lincoln dealer to make an appointment to take the car in for service, I was told it would take three or four weeks to get it repaired, that the engine would have to be replaced for $7,800 - $9,800, and that Lincoln Motor Company will not take any responsibility. He said there were two other vehicles in line with the same problem. Due to being afraid to drive it, I had the car towed by AAA on Monday, October 7, 2024, to the Lincoln dealer and was told the estimate to repair it would be $8,493. This is a coolant intrusion issue due to a faulty design in the engine block where the cooling channels will crack and leak coolant into the piston chambers. As gleaned from the Internet, this appears to have been an ongoing problem with this model. I've observed so far from the Internet that Lincoln Motor Company is not taking responsibility for this faulty design affecting many Lincoln owners. I am [XXX], and living on a fixed income. I had to rent a car and put up a $735 deposit. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-01
- VIN: 5LMCJ4C99JU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: After the original 2.0L EcoBoost in my MKC Black Label failed from coolant intrusion around 37,500 miles in May 2023, the replacement engine my dealer installed also failed from coolant intrusion. This time, it failed in July 2024 after less than 5,000 miles. Like the first engine failure, the check engine light illuminated, but this time, the code I saw was P0300 random cylinder misfire. Like last time, the dealer performed a cooling system pressurization test, and the engine failed the test. They also did a borescope inspection and saw coolant leaking into cylinder three's combustion chamber. They also found rust pitting in the cylinder walls. Like last time, they replaced the $7,000+ long block. This failed replacement engine was assembled in March 2023 via the engine code information sticker, with the block part number J2GE 6006 AC, which Ford's TSB 22-2229 states technicians should use. The engine currently in my car, the second replacement, was assembled in April 2024, having the same block part number of J2GE 6006 AC as the first replacement engine assembled in March 2023. In other words, the dealer installed an engine with the same block part number as the one that failed on me in less than 5,000 miles. All three of my MKC's engines are assembled at Ford's Valencia engine plant in Spain. I'm afraid this second engine replacement will also fail, and I'll have to pay the full cost. In the less than three years I've owned this car, these engine replacements have cost $14,000+. I can't believe how many owners have experienced this coolant intrusion problem, as the 2.0L EcoBoost is used in many models. And it's not just the 2.0L; it's also other variants such as the 1.5L, 1.6L, and 2.3L. I hope Ford will do the right thing and recall these engines, or NHTSA will open an investigation and force a recall. Please help us owners, NHTSA, as there are many, many more of us out there suffering from these notorious engine problems that Ford doesn't want to deal with.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-04
- VIN: 5LMCJ4C99JU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I have the 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 (assembled December 2017, engine block part number HV 206 AA) in my 2018 Lincoln MKC Black Label. The head gasket failed at 37,000 miles in May 2023, according to my Ford/Lincoln dealer. It started as intermittent misfiring/running rough with the check engine light illuminated. My scanner detected the code P0301 cylinder one misfire. My coolant reservoir tank level also gradually decreased, with no visible leakage. After waiting weeks to have my engine looked at, they confirmed that cylinder 1 was burning coolant as it failed Ford's cooling system pressurization test. A borescope test also proved that the coolant was leaking into cylinder one's combustion chamber. At this point, I've learned from many complaints online that these engines are notorious for suffering coolant intrusion even at low mileage, and Ford refuses to issue a recall despite this well-known issue that also plagues other EcoBoost I-4 variants. This well-known coolant intrusion problem affecting many Ford and Lincoln models is a costly safety issue for owners. Ford needs to do the right thing and recall these engines. I bought the car in December 2021 with 30,000 miles from a Lincoln dealer in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it was CPO, so the extended warranty covered the engine replacement (long block). Had this not been under warranty, I would have paid more than $7,000. Most owners are not fortunate like me to have a warranty cover this repair. The replacement engine in my MKC now was assembled in March 2023 via the engine code information sticker, with the block part number J2GE 6006 AC.

WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-01
- VIN: 5LMCJ3C95JU
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: When purchasing new tires today, we were informed that we needed to replace the lug nuts as the lug nut wrench no longer fit the top of the nuts. We were told that they often have this problem with Lincolns and some Fords. He said they could "force" the old ones back on, but the next time they would have to be cut off and replaced. We researched this problems and found that others had the same problem. This is not acceptable - especially if out on the road and we get a flat tire. I only wonder if the recent accident when a tire flew off the truck on the freeway and hit another car causing it to flip over was because their lug nuts were "forced" on. This cost us an additional $60 and would have been even more if they would have had to cut the old ones off.

I love this car! Sync makes everything easy, from accessing phones to reading text messages out loud and navigation. Plus, the Reserve model is all about luxury. It feels like an expensive car. My parents have Lexus and Acura SUVs, but the MKC is much more comfortable.
-
Hi there! I just wanted to share with you how much I love the Lincoln Motor Company. My parents bought their first Lincoln Continental back in 1970, and ever since then, I've owned or leased eight different models! While I absolutely adore the Continentals for their amazing technology, my age and physical limitations mean that I have to stick with SUVs. That's why I'm so excited about the MKC - it's the perfect choice for me, especially since I'm trying to be more environmentally friendly. I'm really looking forward to treating myself to this amazing car in the twilight of my life!

We checked out the Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX, and MKC. We were really impressed with the compact size and the responsiveness of the steering. We absolutely love this car! The Edge and MKX were a bit bigger than what we were looking for, but this one is just right. If you're looking for a roomy backseat, this might not be the car for you, as it's a bit tight, but for us, it's perfect. We've taken it on several trips and the seats are very comfortable. The only issue we've had is with the voice command, as it sometimes has trouble understanding my southern accent. The navigation is great, although we were disappointed to find out that Lincoln wanted $100+ to update the map. We think that in the future, navigation will be done mostly on people's phones and you won't find it as much in cars. The car handles curves very well and is really fun to drive. Ours has a bigger engine with the 2.3L Turbo, which provides a lot of power and excellent acceleration. When changing gears from drive to reverse, there is a slight lag in response, but we got used to it. Overall, the interior is excellent and the road noise is minimal. After driving this car for 3 years and riding in various other small compact vehicles, we can say that this Lincoln has excellent ride quality in comparison. We still enjoy driving it after all this time. The interior design is good, but we wish the front cup holders had been side by side instead of front and back. The overhead controls for the sunroof are difficult to see, but you learn which ones do certain functions. Maybe they should have angled those to make them easier to see. There is plenty of space for us with just two people, and we've taken several trips in it. It gets about 23-24 mpg on the highway, and a lot of city stop-and-go driving will get you anywhere from 17-19 mpg. If you have back seat passengers a lot, it can be a bit tight getting in and out, but you get used to it. We rarely sit there and only occasionally have passengers. We had some minor repairs done under warranty, including trim and battery replacement, headrest replacement due to peeling upholstery, a seat heater issue, and an electronic board used with the Lincoln app. If it had not been under warranty, it could have been costly. However, the Greeneville, TN dealership was great and we highly recommend them. Their maintenance department is excellent. After owning this SUV for 3 years, we are still enjoying it. The minor issues we had while under warranty have been resolved and we have not had any more problems. We love all the technology, but mostly we love the ride and luxury interior. The vehicle fits us fine, but if you need something with a lot of cargo room, you can let the seats down. If you have back seat passengers a lot, you would need to look at a different vehicle as leg room is tight. We average 20-21 mpg overall, including a mix of city driving and highway. In the city only, it drops to 19-20 mpg, but on the highway on a trip, we get 24-25 mpg. We have now owned the vehicle for just over 3 years. Although the dealership we purchased it from is no longer a Lincoln dealer due to very low sales, we have switched to Rockytop Lincoln in Sevierville for our service needs. It's on the husband's way to work. Even though the old dealership still serviced Lincolns that were purchased there, we prefer one that still sells them. The dealership in Sevierville stated they were not set up to include car washes, pickup and delivery, but they would take the spouse to work if needed. The service department also stated they did not have a loaner at the time to drop it off for an oil change and tire rotation. Although Lincoln advertises pickup, delivery, and loaners as a selling point, it's rare that dealerships have the ability to do just that.

I was searching for a smaller SUV and had my eye on the Nissan Murano, Lexus 350, and other similar models. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a low mileage one that met my needs. My family has always been loyal to Lincoln, Mercury, and Ford vehicles, so I also considered the Ford Edges and Escapes. However, when I compared the fully loaded options, they were almost as expensive as the MKC, which had the added benefit of a shorter wheelbase that I really appreciated. Despite living in California where gas mileage is important, I still get a decent 19 mpg with both freeway and in-town driving. The ride is typical of a Lincoln with a sturdy body, and I especially love all the little perks that come standard with a Lincoln. The seats are incredibly comfortable and easy to adjust.

First, let me give you some background on the vehicles I have been driving recently. My lease for the 2015 CTS coupe and 640 BMW convert is coming to an end, and I also have a 328 4 door. In the past, I have driven a H2 Hummer and primarily coupes. I have been test driving many new vehicles, but I wasn't set on a small SUV. I have had two Infiniti coupe leases, a convertible and a plain coupe, and I loved both. Then I test drove the new 'red sport' coupe with twin turbos, and I have to say, WOW! It was the perfect car for me, but the quotes were insane for a car in that class at just under $800 a month, so it was off my list. I also drove the Porsche Macan S, and I have to say, it was hands down one of the best cars I have ever driven. I have owned a Cayman S and a Ferrari recently, and the Macan S was as fun and tight as anything I could compare it to. However, the lease quote was $1150 per month for a $74k car, which seemed off by a long shot since I paid the same for a $98k 640 convert (it made no sense to me). So, I decided to try out the Infiniti SUVs and ended up in a Lincoln showroom after reading some reviews. It turns out my daughter was also thinking about what car to get next, and she wanted a bit more room like a small SUV could provide. I do not want to drive a car without the latest safety and tech features since I really enjoy them. The MKC size seemed to be right for both of us, and we ended up ordering two of them, both Reserves in white. Overall, we are very pleased with the vehicles. They are quiet (not as quiet as many would have you believe), have a nice look and features, and are fast for a tiny 4 cyl turbo. However, this was my first front-wheel-drive car for both of us other than rentals, and it was a huge change when you step on the gas and have to hold the wheel when passing to keep control. It feels like driving a go-kart.I love all the features on the car! Although I haven't been brave enough to test the self-parking assist yet. However, the downside of this nice lil SUV is that both cars are getting horrible mileage, worse than my caddi and everything but my Hummer H2! I would have never got two of these if I knew the mileage numbers were going to be this bad! I was conservatively estimating 22 combined, but it's actually 17-19 combined driving for both vehicles. The next thing that bothers me is the rear and front bumper proximity alarms, they're not very sensitive and you cannot adjust them. The cross-traffic alert works great though! Another issue is the Apple CarPlay, you can't use any apps you want. I use only WAZE for navigation and it won't work on the car system. The navigation is also difficult to set up and read, and the voice commands seem to have too many steps to get to where you want to be. Overall, the vehicle is good, the motor and transmission have been bulletproof, and it has many nice features. However, I was deeply disappointed in the MPG and irritated with the crash avoidance system (completely useless at low speeds) but it will alert you at higher speeds (but not stop the car). Even though we are located in Miami, I am glad I got the heated rear seats. It is great when someone is used to it. All of the small features have been reviewed many times, such as the hands-free liftgate, something you don't think about until your hands are full!My daughter drives a Rover and saw that feature, and now she wants an SUV with it. It makes sense for moms with kids and all the accessories. When I get another vehicle, I feel that anything out there now should get over 20MPG. As I get older, I feel that this is going to be my benchmark, and I would never buy a car that averaged under 20 (hopefully 24) MPG. Not as an economic issue, but more like supporting companies that are progressive and responsible. This is why I was very disappointed with the mileage issue. I do not see how you could go wrong with this vehicle when you compare vehicles based on quality and price.

The EcoBoost engine in my car failed after 50,320 miles, which unfortunately occurred after the expiration of the 6-year powertrain warranty. The cost of replacing the engine was over $7,500. It is worth noting that many other individuals have experienced the same issue, and there is currently a class action lawsuit against Ford Lincoln regarding this matter. It is recommended to exercise caution when considering purchasing a Lincoln EcoBoost or any car with this engine.

I am confident in the quality of my 2018 MKC Select, however, there is an ongoing issue with rattle/vibration noises in the dash that the service department has been unable to replicate, despite having it serviced at the dealership twice. I am disappointed to have to deal with this issue in a brand new luxury vehicle, but I am confident that it will be resolved soon.

I have owned two MKCs, the 2015 Reserve trim and my current black label trim. Unfortunately, I have experienced a recurring issue with the air conditioner in both cars. The AC randomly blows hot air on the driver side and cold air on the passenger side, forcing me to close the vents on the driver side to avoid the hot air blowing in my face. This issue is unacceptable in a car that costs $56,000. As a loyal American car manufacturer customer, I am disappointed that Lincoln has not addressed this issue. I hope that Lincoln will take notice of this feedback and take action to resolve this issue. I believe in American car manufacturers and have been a Ford lover since childhood, but I cannot accept substandard quality compared to other car manufacturers, especially when I am spending my hard-earned money on it. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I am having a difficult time with Lincoln Customer service. My Lincoln is less than 3 years old and the Engine had to be replaced along with the Transmission. I expect to have a productive conversation with them about getting the vehicle replaced or bought back considering the massive issues.
