The Lexus LS (Japanese: レクサス・LS, Hepburn: Rekusasu LS) is a full-size luxury sedan (F-segment in Europe) serving as the flagship model of Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota. In 2007, V8 hybrid powertrains were introduced on the LS 600h/LS 600h L sedans.

Development of the LS began in 1983 as the F1 project, the code name for a secret flagship sedan. At the time, Toyota's two existing flagship models were the Crown and Century models – both of which catered exclusively for the Japanese market and had little global appeal that could compete with international luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar. The resulting sedan followed an extended five-year design process at a cost of over US$1 billion, and premiered with a new V8 engine and numerous luxury features. The Lexus LS was intended from its inception for export markets, and the Lexus division was formed to market and service the vehicle internationally. The original LS 400 debuted to strong sales, and was largely responsible for the successful launch of the Lexus marque.

Since the start of production, each generation of the Lexus LS has been manufactured in the Japanese city of Tahara, Aichi. The name "LS" stands for "Luxury Sedan", although some Lexus importers have preferred to define it as "Luxury Saloon". The name "Celsior" is taken from Latin word "celsus", meaning "lofty" or "elevated".

    Although the vehicle transmits some road noise into the cabin, the transmission is the smoothest I have ever driven and the engine is great. While the ride and handling are not exceptional, they are still satisfactory. In my opinion, I do not believe that a pre-owned Lexus is worth the extra money, including the certified pre-owned option. However, I do appreciate the quality of the transmission and engine.

    This is my 4th Lexus LS400 over the last 9 years and the best ever. I have now purchased my wife's first, GS300 and she loves it. By the way, over all these years, the only issue I had was with the cigarette lighter not working. However, the service folks replaced it while having it serviced and thanked me for bringing it to their attention. By the way, it was a non-issue because neither of us smoke anyway.

    I bought this car preowned in 2005 with 65,000 miles on it. It's a beautiful car in every way. Since then, I've put 13,000 miles on it and I must confess that it's an excellent car. I haven't had even one minor problem to date. The interior comfort and appointments are outstanding in layout and function. The seats are roomy and can be easily adjusted to your favorite comfort position. There's enough leg room for a 6+ footer in both the front and rear seats. The build quality is also outstanding. While the cabin isn't as quiet as I had hoped, with noticeable road noise, especially on concrete highway surfaces, the car drives so well that it's almost boring to drive. The only issue I've noticed is that the heavy front-end pushes a bit. Overall, I highly recommend this car!

    This is such an amazing car! The LS 400 is the epitome of a luxury car. It's incredibly quiet, comfortable, and powerful. The fit and finish is absolutely unmatched. I'm still blown away by the car's power and acceleration, yet it remains so quiet at all speeds. The transmission shifts so smoothly that you can barely feel it. It even gets great gas mileage for its size, with 18/25 city and highway. The car is so enjoyable to ride and drive that it almost becomes addictive!
