2006 Ford Escape hybrid problems
The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company since the 2001 model year. The first Ford SUV derived from a car platform, the Escape fell below the Ford Explorer in size; the Escape is currently sized between the Ford EcoSport and Ford Edge. The 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid was the first hybrid-electric vehicle from Ford, and the first hybrid produced as an SUV.
The first two generations of the Escape used the Ford CD2 platform (jointly developed with Mazda), leading to the release of the Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner; as with the Escape, both the Tribute and Mariner were marketed in North America. In Europe, the Escape was initially branded as the Ford Maverick from 2001 to 2008 (replacing a Nissan-produced SUV).
Under the mid-2000s "One Ford" globalization strategy, the third and fourth-generation designs of the Escape have been unified with the Ford Kuga, designed by Ford of Europe. Sharing a common body and chassis underpinnings (and several engines), the Escape and Kuga are manufactured in their home markets. As with previous generations, the fourth-generation Escape is offered with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Outside of North America, the Ford Escape is marketed in Australia, China, and Taiwan.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-20
- VIN: 1FMCU96HX6K
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Like so many others, I was making a sharp right turn when the vehicle stopped without warning causing cars behind me to slam on their brakes to avoid a chain rear end collision event on a busy intersection. Another driver offered help and got it restarted but the power steering stopped functioning. He pulled it off the road and I then had to drive it home. The light came on after saying "power steering service" and a wrench light. There were no codes to be read and I have been unable to get a straight answer from mechanics. The last said I need the power steering module and the rack and pinion. I finally got him to give me the specific part numbers, both of which are DISCONTINUED. Last week, I told another mechanic the problems and parts I needed and he gave me a total guestimate under $2000, so I decided to go with them and they ordered the parts. When I looked at the estimate, they did not match the part numbers I had been given, and I just found out they didnt include the module because it's discontinued. I cancelled the work. I have no options left that I can afford. THIS PROBLEM IS PERVASIVE IN THESE FORD ESCAPE MODELS AND YEARS, yet they haven't recalled any before 2008. This needs to be addressed because Ive also had the intermittent engine shutdown on the road saying "STOP NOW". Luckily, no accidents or injuries yet, but I wouldn't trust this to travel beyond my area. Shame on Ford!

When we took it to a repair shop and said it was 2006 escape they responded what side did the shock tower break on this was before we told them it was a shock tower they said it's always that part on a escape I personally know 2 other people who have had the same problem all different years of escapes.

- VIN: 1FMYU03146K

- Summary: Both rear shocks, mounts, wheel wells, entire length of body door panels passenger seats are just absolutely rusted beyond repair. I've gone to a couple different shops and each one said that there is nothing they can do to fix the issue. Now the vehicle when ridden in just bounces horribly wearing out bearing springs and tires are being worn out. There is only 110759 miles on it and bought this for my wife/ kids cause I've had 3 other escapes in the past so since I work on the road this is prefect sized for then not to big or too small. I've had so many issues this last year with repairs parts and now worried about safety issues.

SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-29
- VIN: 1FMYU96H66K
- Components: SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE
- Summary: This 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid, and all first and second generation (2001-2012) Escape models, were designed and built with a significant, known defect in the mating area and materials used for the rear floor pan, rear sub-assembly/rails, and rear inner fender liners/upper shock absorber mounts, all made of pressed steel. The design of the components renders them subject to trapping road debris/salt/contaminants, and the inferior steel used oxidizes quickly, resulting in perforated areas of substantial rust. In our 2006 model, the right rear inner fender liner was completely replaced, and the rear subassembly/rails were welded, in 2013 with new Ford parts. By May, 2018, it had to be repaired and welded again. As of May, 2013, five years almost to the day, it has again rusted and separated. As this hybrid Escape carries a 600 pound battery between the rails in the rear of the vehicle, this is a substantial, dangerous defect affecting potentially millions of cars manufactured over a decade. The current status of the oxidation, corrosion, rot and decay affecting our Ford Escape has rendered it incapable of being repaired per the auto mechanic shop we visited first, followed by the body shop we visited next. Both indicated that the poor design combined with the steel used contributed to the dangerous vehicle it has become.

The vehicle has been great so far! The only minor issue we've had is that it's so quiet that deer and elk seem to love running in front of it. However, it's been getting better mileage than we expected, especially for driving in the mountains. Plus, it's incredibly comfortable to drive and has plenty of room for the whole family.

When gas prices began to climb, I started looking for better fuel economy. Luckily, a friend suggested looking at hybrids. I found a local Ford dealer who had one in stock and I test drove it. I fell in love with it! The gas mileage I get is in line with the EPA estimate and the interior is well designed and very comfortable. Although I wish it had the navigation system, I haven't had any problems with it. When/if this one wears out, I'll definitely get another one.

The 4X4 Escape is the only vehicle I know of that exceeds the EPA window posting. With some modifications to driving habits, it can return an impressive 34 MPG hwy and 31 MPG city. The fit and finish are better than my neighbor's Honda Accord, and the ride is unexpectedly good for the size of the vehicle. It's also very quiet, except when the 2.3 is revving, and even then, the engine is barely noticeable. The transition from electric to gas is almost seamless, and using cruise control on long trips returns better MPG than not using it. The only downsides are the lack of steering wheel adjustments and unlighted cruise controls. Overall, it's a great vehicle that I would highly recommend!

I'm so happy with my decision to purchase this SUV! It's my first one and I'm having a blast driving it. The gas mileage is fantastic, which was a major factor in my decision to buy it since I commute about 80 miles a day for work. So far, it has been incredibly reliable and I've only needed to change the oil every 8,000 miles, using the synthetic oil recommended by the factory. I did a lot of research before making my purchase and was thrilled to learn that it features Toyota technology, which was a major selling point for me. My previous car was a Toyota Camry and it was the best car I've ever owned, so I knew I could trust this brand. If you're looking for a fun and reliable SUV, I highly recommend this one!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Ford Escape Hybrid that I bought back in December 2005. I opted for the luxury package because I really wanted the sunroof, and I have to say, it's been a great choice for me. As someone who's 6'5'' and 240lb, I find it really comfortable to drive, and it's also a lot of fun to drive around town. I'm happy to report that I regularly get 33 mpg around town, which is fantastic! On the highway, the mileage is a bit lower, around 28-29 mpg, and when I'm pulling my small boat, it can go as low as 24 mpg. However, I've found that driving carefully around town, avoiding gunning away from lights and such, really helps with the mileage. Thanks for listening!

Although there have been some issues with the car, I am confident that they can be resolved. The car has been in for maintenance several times, but I trust that the mechanics will be able to fix the problems. I have an appointment tomorrow to address some concerns, but I am optimistic that they will be resolved. While the gas mileage has been disappointing, I believe that the mechanics will be able to improve it. Overall, I still recommend the Escape, but perhaps the Hybrid model needs some improvements. Ford has a great track record with the regular Escape, and I am confident that they will be able to improve the Hybrid model as well.

The Hybrid's 2 wheel drive achieves exceptional mileage (30+ city and highway) while providing good visibility, acceleration, and handling. Despite some issues with the quality of materials, particularly in the interior, the car remains a solid choice. The rear storage area carpet, which covers the batteries and must be moved for maintenance, is unfortunately not attached down by anything, not even Velcro. This causes the carpet to constantly come loose whenever a box is slid into the back. Additionally, the quality of the carpet is subpar, as it is already looking shabby after only 9 months. The speedometer's poor lighting makes it hard to read at night, but this does not detract from the car's overall performance and reliability.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my pre-owned car. While it has been great for the most part, I have noticed a few issues such as some squeaks at the battery area and a loose and squeaky front airbag. I have found that the consumption is great below 30mph, but not so much on the highway. Despite this, the ride is still quite comfortable. I did have some trouble with attendance for recalls, as not all technicians are familiar with hybrids. Additionally, I have had some issues with the power window switch failing, not just on my Escape but on my Focus as well. Overall, I still enjoy my car and would recommend it to others. Let me know if you have any questions!

Despite being a hybrid, my Ford Escape's gas mileage has been disappointing, currently at 25 mpg. However, I am confident that Ford will take the necessary steps to address this issue, even if my local dealership and the help line were not able to assist me. As a loyal customer, I believe in Ford's commitment to excellence and trust that they will continue to innovate and improve their products to maintain their market share.

I recently switched from an Eddie Bauer Expedition to a fully loaded Escape Hybrid and I must say, Ford really understands the needs of larger people like myself (I'm 6'4
