2012 Suzuki Kizashi problems

suzuki logo

The Suzuki Kizashi is a mid-size car manufactured by Japanese automaker Suzuki. It was unveiled in the United States on July 30, 2009. The Kizashi went on sale in Japan on October 21, 2009, in North America on December 1, 2009, and in Australia and New Zealand on May 11, 2010. It is the first mid-size Suzuki automobile sold in the Australian market. In February 2011, the Kizashi became available to the Indian market. The car was also available in European markets.

In December 2013, Suzuki announced that the Kizashi would be gradually discontinued in global markets, and would not get a successor. In December 2014, the production of the car ceased in the Sagara plant. Despite a good technical record, the car had suffered from poor sales because of the global financial crisis and Suzuki's withdrawal from the American and Canadian markets in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Etymology

Kizashi (In kanji: 兆) is a Japanese word which means "something great is coming", "omen", "sign", or "warning".

Common 2012 Suzuki Kizashi problems

Common Problems with the Suzuki Kizashi 2012:

  • Transmission Problems: The 2012 Suzuki Kizashi is known to have transmission problems, particularly with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The transmission can run hot and enter temperature protection control, causing a fail-safe mode that slows the vehicle's speed and ability to accelerate. This issue can be caused by the control module problems inside the CVT.
  • Premature Tire Wear: Some owners have reported poor alignment causing premature tire wear in the 2011 Kizashi. This issue can lead to increased costs for tire replacement and decreased fuel efficiency.
  • Poor Quality Wheels and Materials: Some owners have reported poor quality wheels and materials in the 2011 Kizashi. This issue can lead to decreased durability and increased costs for repairs or replacement.
  • Occupant Classification System (OCS) Failures: The extra pressure on the OCS in the 2010-2013 Kizashi and 2006-2013 Grand Vitara can cause OCS failures. When the OCS cannot properly detect passengers, airbags can end up doing more harm than good.
  • Shrinking Leather: Suzuki has recalled certain Kizashi and Grand Vitara models due to shrinking leather issues. The shrinkage problem can be caused by high heat and humidity, and it can lead to stress cracks in the modules, causing electrical issues and increased transmission fluid temperatures.
  • Rear Shocks and Struts: Some 2012 Suzuki Kizashi owners have reported that the car needed new rear shocks and struts. This issue can lead to decreased ride quality and handling.
  • Exterior Paint Issues: Some 2012 Suzuki Kizashi owners have reported issues with the exterior paint, particularly with the clear coat beginning to deteriorate. This issue can lead to decreased appearance and decreased value.
  • Creaking Noise: Some 2012 Suzuki Kizashi owners have reported a creaking noise in the front when the car is first started up and driven. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out components or loose connections.
  • Weak Engine Performance: Some 2012 Suzuki Kizashi owners have reported that the car's engine performance is weak, particularly with the CVT drivetrain. This issue can lead to decreased acceleration and decreased performance.

These common problems with the 2012 Suzuki Kizashi can lead to increased costs for repairs and decreased value, durability, and performance. Affected owners are recommended to take their cars to a dealership or a qualified mechanic for inspection and repair. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes and inspections, can help prevent some of these issues.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-03
  • VIN: JS2RF9A32C6
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I bought the vehicle in a dealer, the vehicle came with serious mechanical failures which, when purchasing it, asked the owner what problems the vehicle actually had, which responded that it could have a fault in the vehicle sensor, which is normal in vehicles of that brand. . The next day we took the vehicle to the inspection report which showed damage to the gearbox. He recommends that I go back to the dealer and ask for a refund of the money or change of vehicle, since the owner omitted the true fault of the vehicle, I ask him the return or exchange and there was a refusal to return the money and change the vehicle, leaving me with a newly purchased unused vehicle, it was explained to the owner that the vehicle does not pass emissions. The vehicle cannot be fixed since it is a discontinued brand of vehicle and there are no spare parts.

POWER TRAIN,STRUCTURE,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-17
  • VIN: JS2RF9A39C6
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,STRUCTURE,ENGINE
  • Summary: On long trips vehicle shuts down and goes into limp mode. It has a very rough idle after restart when it allows you to go. The rims have massively lost large chunks of paint from them as well.It is never close to a dealership when it happens. This normally happens when you are running on the interstate and the vehicle dies in the middle of six lanes of heavy traffic. When this happens no warning lights nor messages appear on the dash. It just shuts down and you literally have to limp it off the road and let it set for a long period of time before it will restart. When it restarts it idles roughly for a long period of time.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-08-27
  • VIN: JS2RF9A39C6
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: There is/are recalls on this vehicle regarding the fuel tank and vacuum lines on the fuel filler neck assembly, which causes check engine warnings that indicate "evap emissions" readouts, leaks during refills, interior gas fumes, and potential explosions. This car is currently leaking fuel during refills (and only during refills), has frequent interior gas fumes, and is also having check engine light evap emissions readouts. On 09/12/22 I contacted Suzuki Motor USA regarding the issue because I had learned of the recalls specific to these issues. Customer Service informed me that the recall work on the vehicle had already been completed and said I would have to pay for further repairs, since the recall work was not guaranteed. Recall work not guaranteed? Even though the symptoms I am experiencing are the exact same problems that initiated the recall. Said vehicle is garage parked and shows no signs of rust or deterioration of rubber or metal. Therefore, I am convinced that the recall repair work was insufficient, improperly completed, or involved defective replacement parts. I am seeking assistance to make Suzuki "properly" complete the recall work on this vehicle.

  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: JS2RE9A36C6
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: ON AUGUST 11, 2014 MY VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. I HAD TO PULL OVER AROUND THE CORNER FROM MY JOB BECAUSE I SMELLED SMOKE AND SAW SMOKE IN MY CAR. I PULLED OVER A LOCAL FIRESTONE MECHANIC SHOP. I OPENED UP MY CONSOLE BECAUSE MOST OF THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE CONSOLE, AND WHEN I OPENED THE CONSOLE I SAW FIRE. I RUSHED INSIDE THE FIRESTONE TO GET HELP. THE MECHANICS AT THE FIRESTONE USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER , AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED. THE FIRE ALSO STARTED UP AGAIN UNDERNEATH MY CUP HOLDER IN THE CAR, AND AFTER THIS HAPPENED THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID THE FIRE APPEARED TO HAVE STARTED AS A RESULT OF AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE AC POWER PLUG. I DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING PLUGGED IN THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER, SO HOW THE FIRE STARTED AND WHY I DO NOT KNOW. I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AND THE VEHICLE. I ALSO FILLED A CLAIM WITH SUZUKI CORPORATION, AND THEY HAD AN INSPECTOR COME OUT TO INSPECT THE CAR. THE INSPECTOR IS UNABLE TO DETERMINED WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE IN THE CAR. *TR

STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2012-03-06
  • VIN: JS2RE9A30C6
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
  • Summary: MY CAR HAS A DEFECT IN THE SUSPENSION WITH IS CAUSING UNRESOLVED ISSUES WITH THE ALIGNMENT. I PURCHASED MY CAR IN 01/2012 TWO MONTHS LATER I DISCOVERED MY ALIGNMENT WAS OFF. THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE AN ALIGNMENT MACHINE SO I WAS TOLD BY SUZUKI CORP USA I COULD TAKE IT TO A PROFESSIONAL AND HAVE IT ALIGNED. THE PULLING WENT FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER. FINALLY I DECIDED TO TAKE TO A DEALER OVER AND HOUR AWAY WHO ALSO DID NOT HAVE A FRONT END MACHINE. I DROPPED IT OFF BECAUSE THEY HAD TO USE A SISTER DEALER WHO HAD A FRONT END MACHINE. THE ALIGNMENT WAS SOMEWHAT FIXED BUT MY CAR WAS LOWER AND LEANING ON THE DRIVER SIDE. I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOTHING TO THE HEIGHT OF MY CAR AND DON??T KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT WHY THE CAR IS LEANING. AFTER AN EXHAUSTIVE SEARCH ON THE INTERNET I WAS ABLE TO FIND SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE U.S., CANADA, AUSTRALIA AND INDIA HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW WITH THE CAR AND A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. WHEN I GOT MY CAR IN JANUARY OF 2012, I DECIDED TO GOOGLE THE CAR TO READ AS MUCH AS I COULD AND EVEN READ SOME REVIEWS ON YOUTUBE. THERE WERE FAR MORE POSITIVE REVIEWS THAN BAD. I EVEN FOUND 3 RECALLS WITH THE 2012 KIZASHI. TODAY I AM UNABLE TO LOCATE ANY RECALLS, IT'S VERY DIFFICULT FINDING ANY BAD REVIEWS ABOUT THE CAR AND VIRTUALLY NO BAD YOUTUBE REVIEWS. TO ME IT'S CLEAR SUZUKI HAS PAID A COMPANY TO CLEAN UP ALL NEGATIVE COMMENTS AND VIDEOS ABOUT THE CAR. THERE ARE MANY GREAT CARS SOLD IN AMERICA BUT YOU WILL FIND SOMETHING BAD IN A REVIEW. I HAVE CONVINCING EVIDENCE I WILL BE HAPPY TO PROVIDE. IF YOU GOOGLE SUZUKI SUSPENSION ISSUES THERE ARE MANY ISSUES THAT COME UP VERY SIMILAR TO THE KIZASHI BUT IT LIST OTHER SUZUKI, CARS AND TRUCKS BUT ALL LISTINGS ABOUT THE KIZASHI HAVE BEEN REMOVED. THIS POOR WELDING AT THE FRONT BALL JOINT COULD PROVE DANGEROUS. *TR

Positive 2012 Suzuki Kizashi car reviews

  1. Don Fay 2024-10-20

We recently purchased our second new car, after having owned many second-hand cars over the years. Unfortunately, we had to sell our 12-year-old Nissan Pulsar SLX due to a car accident that left me with a broken back. The seating position of the Pulsar was no longer suitable for me, and I needed a vehicle with a higher, more ergonomically correct seat. Although we were sad to see the Pulsar go, we were excited to explore newer models. My requirements centered around my physical needs, but I also wanted the latest technology, fuel economy that was at least as good as the 1600cc Nissan Pulsar auto we'd just sold, and value for money. We were specifically looking for an automatic car, which ruled out some otherwise excellent options like the Ford Fiesta Econetic and the Toyota Rav4 diesel. After considering several options, we found that the small cars of today are excellent vehicles, with the Honda City being the best overall and the Swift being the best value for money. It's no wonder the Swift is New Zealand's best-selling small car!In the early running, I also considered the Honda Insight hybrid. Although I liked it, my wife found the passenger seat uncomfortable and the split window disconcerting. Despite having the lowest running costs, even when Road User Charges (RUCs) were taken into account, the Insight dropped off the list. I briefly looked at SUVs, but they were going to cost the same as medium-sized petrol cars to run, so I decided to look at the medium car market instead. The Suzuki SX4i AWD is a unique and great wee SUV with comfort, features, and power, but it let itself down on wind and engine noise. It's a shame because otherwise, I would have bought it! It was amazing to realize that the new cars with 2.4lt engines could equal the Pulsar for fuel economy while being a lot bigger and more powerful! I compared the Ford Mondeo Titanium Hatch diesel, the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord Euro, Hyundai i45, VW Passat, and the Suzuki Kizashi Ltd. and Sport. The Camry was the first to go as it was dearer and less economical, and while the ride and seating were comfortable, it was very plain-Jane. It was also a run-out model, due to be replaced with an all-new one. The VW was too dear, as was the Honda Accord. The Hyundai was my early favorite for technology, style, economy, features, and seemed good value. It was perfect in driving position and nearly took the prize. Until I tried the Kizashi... What can I say? I run out of superlatives to describe this car!All our friends love it, especially the colour, and my wife doesn't want to get out of it. The heated seats and dual-zone climate air were the clincher for her, as was the colour and tints which set the car off beautifully! We look forward to many years of service from what has to be the best mid-sized car on the road today!

Hello! I just wanted to share my experience with this amazing car. I've owned several nice cars in my day, but I always love to try out new and different models, especially if they have great curb appeal. This one caught my eye as soon as I saw it on the road and I had to find out what it was and where to test drive one at. At the time, I was driving a Mustang GT, which is an awesome car in itself. Although this one didn't quite have the GT pep, it was perfect for me. I also owned a Lexus IS 250, and this car reminded me of it almost to a tee. It's very well made, with excellent interior quality and accessories, and the exterior is just awesome (I own a Black metallic one). I've had this car for 2 years now and I absolutely love it!

Hello! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I've had it for three months now and I must say, it's been a great ride! It's amazing how safe it is, even safer than a Volvo. Plus, it's just as responsive and sporty as a BMW or Audi, but much more affordable. I'm surprised that it's not more well-known in America, but I think that's because of the lack of advertising. The warranty is great and it's so much fun to drive. Everywhere I go, people turn their heads to look at it. The build quality, fit, finish, and all the little details and gadgets that Suzuki included are really impressive. I highly recommend taking it for a test drive, even if you're only considering more expensive European cars. Thank you for reading!

I bought this car because I fell in love with the body style and it had every feature I wanted. I was also offered a fantastic deal. However, after a year of driving it, I have noticed some little annoyances that are pushing me towards trading it. For example, the radio has a limited range and loses the station frequently. Additionally, the low tire pressure warning takes over the dashboard but doesn't indicate which tire needs attention. Furthermore, the rounded shape of the dash and hood make it difficult for someone of my height (5'5

I can tell you really loved your Suzuki Kizashi! It's such a shame that you got into an accident with it, otherwise you would still be driving it today. It sounds like the car exceeded your expectations in terms of response and performance, and the build quality was top-notch. It must have been really fun to drive, especially since it was such a rare sight. I can understand why you would be all over this car if Suzuki had stayed in the states and continued producing it with every generation. Thank you for sharing your experience with me!
