STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-17
- VIN: KNADN4A38G6
- Components: STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Complete engine lockup during operation at speed which caused steering and braking to be greatly hampered. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The engine failed on a 4-lane highway in traffic which could have easily caused a high-speed accident since the car extremely decelerated and lost power steering and braking in order to get out of traffic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes confirmed by an independent service center which told me it was either a cylinder rod or a lower engine bearing failure. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, the manufacture KIA has a recall on other models in this year range but not the RIO. The other models have a similar engine failure caused by a faulty cylinder rod bearing. The RIO has never been added to this recall list, but it should be because it looks like the engine issues are also on this model in the same time frame. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, they only came on when the engine failed. Then every warning light appeared.

- VIN: KNADM4A32G6
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The HECu fuse recall has been over six months with no remedy. I called NHTSA two weeks ago and was told by a representative that the manufacturers (both Kia and Hyundai) stated that the remedy would be posted, and available at the dealerships by the end of last month (March). I would like to escalate my complaint. This is a serious safety concern, and on top of that my vehicle is now more likely to be stolen since it must be kept outside (Kia Boys). I'm a fairly patient person, but this has really gotten me sideways. If you could let me know how I can formally file a complaint I would appreciate it.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-12
- VIN: KNADM5A38G6
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: I stayed on top of oil changes and engine continued to burn an excessive amount of oil in between oil changes. No leak was found after having 3 different inspections. I was told this is a common problem with Kia engines from multiple Kia owners, mechanics, and oil change technicians. Despite this, I made sure I always had oil in it and kept up with the changes. Suddenly, while driving on the interstate, the engine completely failed. I had it towed to a mechanic where it was determined internal engine failure if some sort. My car only had 83,000 miles on it when this happened. Due to me being the second owner, ( I bought the cat at 14,000 miles) I was unable to receive the 100,000 miles power train warranty. I called my local Kia dealership to see if there was anything they could do and was told “engines fail all the time” and that there is nothing they can do.Replacing the engine is more than the car is worth. For the engine to fail out of nowhere with no warning (this was the first time any sort of light came on my dash) after spending time and money on upkeep, is unacceptable. It is also completely unsafe. After some researching, I see that this is a very common issue with kia engines and Kia failed to notify me about obsessive oil consumption and the their faulty motors. Over $400 dollars in mechanic fees and over $300 in towing fees to determine all of this and I am out of a car. Getting a new engine or even fixing whatever internal component it is would be way more than what my car is worth with it running.

I purchased this car used with 83,000 miles and so far, it has been great. The interior feels spacious, it has just the right amount of power, and it is mechanically sound. I feel safe while driving it and I appreciate how it handles. Although it has a small 3.5 quart oil tank, I have found that checking the oil every 1,000 miles and adding more as needed has been sufficient. I use Valvoline MaxLife and it seems to work well. Overall, I am very satisfied with this car.
-
Runs great after 85000 miles! I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any major engine problems. While it may not have much power for highway use, it will certainly get you around safely. I understand that road noise can be loud, but all in all, it sounds like you got a good car for the price.
-
This car is a fantastic value! Congratulations on your new purchase! While it's still early days, I'm confident that this model will prove to be reliable. It certainly feels solid and drives much better than its price would suggest. The built-in trip computer is a great feature, and I've heard that adding Cruise is a breeze with a switch kit that costs under $100. It's a shame that some shops try to charge nearly $500 for the same service. I'm also a proud owner of a 2014 Sportage, which I think is a great value for a crossover. My son is still driving our 2004 Spectra, which has an impressive 190,000 miles on the clock, and my daughter loves her 2015 Soul. We've had no complaints about any of these cars, and they've proven to be very reliable for their cost.
-
We're thrilled with our new car! Our experience at Cowboy Kia in Conroe was fantastic. Our salesperson was incredibly helpful in finding the perfect car for us.
-
I saw the car I have now at the used car lot behind my house and felt that it fit my personality. I got it for a great price and it's just the right size for me, especially after driving my Mom’s station wagon. The pickup is great and the blue color of the car, along with the cool technology inside, really caught my eye! I also love the remote opener.

Hi there! I noticed that you were looking for a car to replace your 2000 Toyota Echo. It can be tough to find the perfect car, but I'm glad to hear that you settled on the Rio hatchback! I can definitely see why you were sold on its stylish design, great price, and warranty. While the fuel mileage may not be as high as your previous car, it's still pretty good at 38 to 40 mpg. I agree that the Yaris and Prius C may not have been the best fit for you, especially considering the price. It's great that you opted for the 6-speed manual transmission, even though the gears are close together. I hope you enjoy your new car and thanks for sharing your experience with me!

Hey there! When you're checking out the car, make sure it has a cruise feature and an adjustable front rider seat. It's also important to make sure it looks nice, but don't forget to check for those important features too!

1. The electronic odometer is too cluttered. It would be better to have one place for each output, with clarity. A separate boxed odometer display would be ideal, and the large gear-shift suggestion should be tamed and put in a corner of the instrument display area. A notification of the current gear with the shift suggestion appearing as a smaller digit with an up or down arrow would also be helpful. 2. While tire pressure sensors are great, it would be even better if they could tell me the actual pressures when I ask. It would also be useful to know the real coolant temperatures, not just H/C. 3. An inbuilt outside temperature and compass above the rear-view mirror would be a nice addition. Making the rear-view mirror wider would also be helpful. 4. I prefer having keyed doors and trunk. 5. The radio/clock panel should be less multi-functional. Providing a little real-estate for each output (time, radio frequency) and keeping it there all the time would be better (time always, radio state when the radio is on, etc.). 6. The car is a bit too noisy with respect to both engine and road noise. 7. You can hear the valves tapping when standing outside by the hood. 8. The acceleration could be improved. 9. While the car is long enough, it is too narrow. Widening it by 6 inches would give each front passenger 3 more inches. 10. Putting rubber fill-in cord around the rear window would be a good idea. 11. The manual transmission shifts smoothly. 12. The AC controls have a weird automatic state when the temperature control is set to max 'blue' that overrides all the other controls, recirc, etc. Maybe giving that state a separate notch on the temperature control labeled MaxAC would be helpful. 13. The radio needs a bit more DX (distance tuning ability). 14. We want cruise-control with the manual transmission car! 15. The pillars, seat headrests, and small rearview mirror make blind spots for cars coming alongside, which is hard to deal with.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with the car so far. It can be a bit noisy at times, and I've noticed that the tire pressure system and check engine lights come on quite frequently. However, I've been assured that there's no real issue with the car. The biggest inconvenience for me has been that it tends to run low on oil quite often, so I have to check it every two weeks or so. Apparently, this is a common issue with these cars. Overall, I'm still enjoying the ride!

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned your Sticker Fuel Economy rating is 38 HWY, 28 City, but you're only getting around 29-30 MPG HWY and 19-20 MPG CITY during your 55-mile roundtrip commute on the freeway. That's frustrating to hear, especially when the dealer says there's nothing they can do to help. Have you tried any fuel-saving tips or tricks that have worked for you in the past?
