I can hear the wiper gear trying to lift the wipers, but nothing happens.

- Summary: This is neither a failure nor a malfunction but on several occasions I have had the light switch turn off at night while driving. I can reach over and push a button to the left of the steering wheel under the ac/heat vent and in doing so my arm has rolled the headlight switch off. I have to hurry up and turn them back on. The switch should lock somewhat in place as to take a purposeful twist for it to turn. The headlight switch turns too easy and it could cause an accident at night.

I took the vehicle to the dealership, it was scanned and according to them, no DTC was stored, I got videos when both issues came up.

- Summary: Vehicle pulls hard to left since purchased. Had in shop 3 times, but problem still exists. It was aligned and rechecked. Tires were switched on the front (by another shop) and it still has issues of pulling. Dealership refuses to diagnose the trouble, except for the front end alignment and says they voided last repair order (because they did nothing). Took to another shop and they went through it completely, even test-driving it. Verfied a hard pull to the left. They were the shop that transferred front wheels to correct the problem. It helped somewhat, but still pulling. Now Dealership says it must be the tires and urges us to get help from them.

I purchased this car for my mother who was accustomed to driving very basic cars. I got a 2020 S model in January 2021 for less than $14,000, which is an unbeatable price compared to other manufacturers. Although it may not be the best car in its segment, it is still great for the price. My main concern was reliability, and I am confident that this car will be very reliable. Additionally, Kia and Hyundai have the easiest infotainment system, which is perfect for older people. I have been driving it for a few weeks during the break-in period before giving it away, and even in freezing weather, I am still getting 35mpg in mixed driving. The car is very peppy around town and surprisingly quiet. I also own a 2019 Jetta, and the Kia is just as quiet around town and on the highway. As others have mentioned, the car does get blown around on the highway more easily than other cars due to its light weight, but it is something to get used to and not a deal breaker. Otherwise, the car is solid over rough pavement, sounds decent when accelerating, and reacts quickly to throttle input. The only major downside is the hard plastics everywhere. Kia could have at least put some soft material on the door to rest your arm on, but at least they put a decent armrest in the middle which actually manually extends out, which is a nice plus. Overall, for the money, this car is awesome.

UPDATE: I've now had my 22 Rio Hatchback (with tech package) for 2 months and I'm loving it even more. The mileage has settled in at about 44 mpg combined. I've taken it on road trips to Montréal, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, and New Orleans and haven't had a single problem so far. I have no delusions of grandeur here - it's an economy car - but I've been extremely satisfied with it. On a road trip to Montréal and back, all freeway mind you, I averaged 47 mpg while driving about 5 mph above the speed limit with just some luggage and me in the car. The comfort is fine and the acceleration is much better than I expected. The sound system is better than that of the Kia Sportage I traded in for the Rio. If you're considering buying this little car, I want to stress that you should GET THE TECH PACKAGE. The car would be FAR too bare bones without it. For US$1800, it includes disc brakes all around, LED headlights, alloy wheels, keyless ignition, nicer trim, Sirius XM radio, automated temp control system, and a BUNCH of safety features including such things as lane keep assist, driver attention warning, lane follow assist, and forward collision warning. The only negatives are that it sits VERY low - not the car for you if you're someone who likes to flop down in a seat rather than ease into your vehicle. Also, you have to be aware of things such as pulling too close to parking blocks - and you're not going to see much of what's ahead other than the car or truck in front of you. I also would have liked to have had a telescoping steering wheel but unfortunately, that's not available. Overall, I am completely satisfied with my purchase thus far.

This vehicle is fuel efficient and provides a decent ride for its price. In my opinion, you definitely get your money's worth with this Kia. Like any car, as long as you keep up with the required periodic maintenance and checks, your Kia will provide years of trouble-free service. It's important to stay on top of your car's scheduled maintenance and service, including things like tire pressure, engine oil/air filter changes, etc., as they can affect how your car handles and burns fuel. The only issue I had with my Kia was steering control on the highway. If you're going 65mph or more and/or dealing with windy conditions, you may be pushed around a bit, so keep a good grip on that steering wheel. Additionally, like most compact cars, it may not be comfortable for tall people, especially on long drives. It's important to check for recalls, as there were two safety recalls on this year, make, and model for the brake master cylinder and steering wheel column bolt. When buying a car, new or used, always do your due diligence and research before spending your hard-earned money. While factory/dealership warranties may sound reassuring, it's important to consider how your local dealership/shop handles recalls and warranty repairs. Some dealerships can be difficult to work with, so always take any recall/warranty documents with you to the dealership. Stay safe and happy driving!Manufacturers are responsible for notifying dealerships about vehicle recalls and warranty work, but it's always better to be prepared. So, when you visit the dealership, remember to bring your car's warranty and recall information with you. Sometimes, service managers or representatives may not be familiar with the warranty, but don't worry, they will be happy to assist you. It's true that manufacturers don't compensate dealerships well for warranty work, and some dealerships may have done away with their rental fleet due to overhead costs. I recently purchased the 2020 model, and while the trunk space is decent, the back seat is quite small. I've only driven it four times, and it was full on each occasion, but it still had more than half a tank of gas left. I do appreciate the sporty look of the car, especially in the blue color. However, I don't think I'll be purchasing this model again and will instead go back to the Kia Forte. The Forte rides great and is low to the ground. I'm also a bit confused about the advertised 52.0 mpg, which I don't think is accurate. I plan to fill up the tank when it's empty to get a better idea of the actual cost. For reference, it only cost $25.00 to fill up the Forte. I'll check back in a month to see how things are going.

The car has a great gas mileage, as I was able to get almost 55 mpg on the highway during my drive from STL to Frankfort KY. However, I cannot recommend purchasing this car until the immobilizer problem is fixed, as it has been stolen twice due to the alarm system not being connected to the rear windows. The thieves were able to easily smash the windows and steal the car. It is important to prioritize safety and security when making a purchase like this.

I'm a bit confused as to why the manufacturer would put weak rims, flabby little tires, and tiny shocks that don't absorb any potholes on such a fast and sporty little car. In my opinion, 15-inch rims are the perfect size to fit right inside of a pothole and bend with perfect triangles in the rims. However, the car is otherwise awesome. One major flaw I left out is that when you open up the trunk after it rains or you wash your car, all the water jumps right into your trunk onto your carpet. This is a major flaw for a 2020 model and shouldn't have made it through. Another issue is that there is an option between good headlights and poor headlights, which shouldn't be the case. Quality should always come first, especially when it comes to safety. If you can't see, you can't drive. Overall, I believe that the manufacturer should prioritize quality and safety over anything else.
