Common 2011 Jaguar Xf problems

The Jaguar XF, introduced in 2008, is a luxury sports sedan known for its spacious interior and advanced electronics. However, like any vehicle, it has faced its share of common problems and faults. This article will focus on the 2011 Jaguar XF, highlighting some of the most frequently reported issues based on owner complaints and expert analysis.

  • Water Pump Failure: The water pumps on 3.0 Supercharged V6 and 5.0 V8 engines are known to fail prematurely, sometimes lasting less than 20,000 miles. This is due to coolant getting inside the bearing housing, corroding the water pump bearing and causing excessive wear of the mechanical flat face seal. Symptoms include low coolant level warnings and traces of a coolant leak around the water pump pulley.
  • Gear Selector Stuck Down: The innovative gear selector dial in the 2011 XF has been known to get stuck down in the console, rendering the car stuck in Park. This issue can be caused by a weak battery or a faulty selector unit, which requires replacement and programming.
  • Dashboard Vents Not Rotating Open: The original XF's air vents, which rotate out of the dashboard when the ignition is switched on, can wear out over time, rendering the dual-zone air-con system ineffective. This issue can be resolved by replacing the clutch of the stepper motors driving each vent, which is now available separately at a lower cost.
  • TPMS Sensor Failure: The tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) in the 2011 XF is sensitive, with owners often going through multiple sets of sensors. If the TPMS warning light comes on, the faulty sensor will likely need replacing, which involves removing the offending wheel, dismounting the tyre from the rim, and replacing the Schrader valve and sensor assembly.
  • Intermittent Electrical Issues: Some 2011 XF owners have reported intermittent electrical issues, such as warning lights staying on, the touch-screen sat-nav turning itself off, the stereo sulking, the fuel filler cap refusing to open, and door trim working itself loose. These issues are more prevalent in early examples and can be attributed to the complexity of the vehicle's advanced electronics.
  • Bodywork, Brakes, and Sat-Nav Issues: According to a What Car? reliability study, 28% of XFs experienced problems, with bodywork, brakes, and sat-nav issues being the most common. While 68% of faults were fixed for free, some owners faced bills ranging from £751 to £1500. Jaguar as a brand has made significant improvements in reliability in recent years, but the 2011 XF still has some gremlins to contend with.

In conclusion, while the 2011 Jaguar XF is a luxurious and advanced vehicle, it has faced several common problems, primarily related to its engine, electrical systems, and innovative features. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider the costs and risks associated with them when making their purchasing decision.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-02
  • VIN: SAJWA0FB1BL
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I just recently purchased the car from a dealer here in Salt Lake City. But suddenly began to smell fuel mostly in the backseat area inside the car. I decided to investigate and found there is a leak underneath the rear passenger side of the car which appears to be fuel looks like it may be mixed with the little oil hard to say it's a pretty steady drip especially if I'm parked uphill. This is definitely a safety hazard being that it is fuel and could easily cause a fire putting me my family and others at risk. I noticed there was a recall on these vehicles it is a Jaguar XF 2011 but it looks like it has been closed from what I can tell. I'm hoping that that's not the case and we can get this fixed with minimum or no charge thing it was a recall

Negative 2011 Jaguar Xf car reviews

  1. Shane Upton 2024-10-20

I leased this car because of its sleek looks and nice interior. However, after only a week of having it, the car broke down in the middle of the Long Island Expressway due to a faulty sensor. It was definitely a frustrating experience, but I'm grateful to be safe. Unfortunately, this has left me feeling hesitant about considering another Jaguar in the future.

  2. Carroll Turner 2024-09-15

I bought my 2010 XF Supercharged a year ago with 90k miles (in 2021). Unfortunately, I have had a few issues with it, such as cracked wheels, brakes, blown water pump, 5 coolant leaks, blown fuel pump, and rear suspension that had to be completely redone. Despite these setbacks, I am still hopeful that my car will be back to its best soon. Recently, I have had to replace the parking brake sensors and both key fobs, which was quite expensive. I just got it out of the shop again and there is another coolant leak, but I am confident that it will be fixed soon. Although I have spent more on the car in the shop than what I paid for it, I am still optimistic that it will be worth it in the end. While it may not get the best gas mileage, it is still a fast car that I enjoy driving. I am looking forward to getting back on the road and enjoying my car again.

  3. Ansley Luettgen 2024-05-14

This was my first jag. I originally wanted something that could fit 4 comfortably, was unique and fast. I found the XF in my Google search back in 2012. Although there was very little history with this model back then, I decided to take a chance. Here I am 8 years later and I’ve just sold my favorite car to drive. However, it was also the most unreliable car I've ever owned. I cannot overstate this. Unfortunately, it spent a lot of time in the shop. If I could extract the unreliable nature from my experience with this car, it would be 5 stars all day long. The performance and handling of this car were second to none. The Supercharged is a BEAST with an elegant look. I can’t tell you how many LOUD egotistical Mustang drivers I left in the dust, even the Cobra’s. It didn’t matter if it was off the line or from a 60 mph “start”. There were even some sub Z06 vette’s I saw in the rear view. At the end of the day, I finally sold it (yesterday) after far too many breakdowns. The new owner called me within 5 minutes of buying it to ask why the trunk cap had fallen off. I wanted to say it’s because it’s a Jag you idiot, but she'll figure it out eventually.

I always dreamed of owning a Jaguar since I was a little kid. However, I have been quite disappointed with my recent purchase. Unfortunately, the brakes squeak all day long, which can be quite annoying. Additionally, the cost of replacing them every 10k miles can be quite expensive, ranging from $600 to $1,000. The electronics are also not up to par, and it can be frustrating to deal with. It's hard to give specifics, but it feels like it's running on an old version of Windows 98. I would not recommend getting satellite radio installed, as it tends to go out every 3 minutes. Despite these issues, I still appreciate the sleek design of the car.

UPDATE: Finally got rid of the car!!! The car had developed leaks through the windshield and for several months, Jaguar kept fixing and replacing many parts of the car, claiming one thing after another was leaking. After 6 months of trying to fix the leak, they finally looked at the windshield and confirmed that the leaks were indeed coming from there. By then, the car had gotten so badly damaged due to water that my insurance company took the car off our hands, and we didn't have to go through the hassle of selling it. During all this time, the dealership provided us with a loaner - initially a small Hyundai, and then after I made some noise, an equivalent Jag. Often we waited days or weeks to get simple repairs done. They would give me an appointment, and then take 3 days just to take a look at the car, and then wait weeks for parts to arrive. In fact, our insurance company had better follow-ups with us on the repairs than the dealership did. I finally had to meet with the GM of the dealership to discuss the situation, and even sent them an invoice for MY time lost coming in to the dealership and chasing after them. While we loved driving the Jag, the experience of owning one was not worth it. We ended up buying a Porsche and a Tesla, and it has been an amazing experience - great customer service, and fantastic drives. The Porsche is better than the Tesla, though the Tesla has its plusses. OLD REVIEW: We've now owned this car, bought new, for 3.5 years, and have under 18,000 miles on it. By now, a significant portion of the car has been replaced by Jag - including several internal lights, the entire fuel system, parts of the audio system, and most recently all the carpeting and even the front seats.....and they're still not done!!! There's still more they need to work on. And even that's not the worst part. What is absolutely the worst is the level of customer service.Take the car in for work, and then I have to follow up for an update. It typically takes 6-8 weeks to get replacement parts, and involves several follow ups. It's surprising that they are still in business.

I've only had this car for a couple of days, but so far, it's been an amazing vehicle. Coming from a new generation Porsche 911, I was concerned about being let down by the performance of the XFR. However, it's just the opposite. I'm enamoured with the XFR. This car is fast, handles great, and has so many different personalities depending on the driving mode, that it simply blows the 911 away. This car will likely be compared with the M5 and the E63 (plus maybe some offerings from Audi). However, this car is in a league of its own. The others may perform better in certain areas, but they just don't come close to being the overall performer that is the XFR.

Great Comfort, Eye Appeal, Performance, Style, and Classic Beauty.

I have owned many cars in my life, ranging from luxury sedans to exotics. In my experience, the XFR is the best balanced automobile I have ever driven. My first test drive was on a track with professional drivers, and I was immediately hooked. Jaguar has certainly made a statement about their desire to re-establish themselves as a quality brand. We had a deposit on the Panamera, but after experiencing the XFR, there was no way that car was worth 30k more. Additionally, the XFR comes fully loaded, so no options are necessary. I would put it up against anything up to 120k.

It's difficult to decide what I like most about my XF. The exterior is simply perfect, the interior is luxurious with expensive leather and wood, and it's equipped with high-tech toys. The performance is outstanding with responsive brakes, easy steering, and tremendous power. Overall, this car is a superbly styled, high-performance work of art. I just hope that the reliability holds up over the years, but so far, so good.

This is my 5th Jaguar - and I love it. I was a bit hesitant going from an XKR to an XF - but the ride is excellent, great acceleration, and very good handling. I'm so glad I chose the XF!
