Common Jaguar Xf problems

Based on complaints from owners of Jaguar XF cars, common problems with these vehicles include:

  1. Transmission Problems: Jaguar XF cars are known to experience early transmission failure, which can lead to significant issues with the vehicle's performance. Detecting transmission problems early through comprehensive diagnostics is crucial to prevent further damage and ensure proper functioning.
  2. Ignition Coil Issues: The ignition coils in Jaguar XF cars are essential for creating sparks to ignite fuel. Failure of these coils can result in inadequate engine performance, sometimes without triggering the check engine light. Intermittent issues with ignition coils can impact the overall running of the engine.
  3. Coolant & Engine Difficulties: Coolant loss is a common problem in some Jaguar XF models, often due to leaks in the coolant reservoir. If left unaddressed, coolant leaks can lead to engine overheating, causing extensive damage. Monitoring coolant levels and addressing leaks promptly is crucial to prevent engine issues.
  4. Brake Failure: The brake pressure accumulator, a component of the antilock brake system in Jaguar XF cars, is prone to failure. When this part malfunctions, it can cause the brake pedal to stiffen, making it challenging to slow down or stop the vehicle. Unusual noises from the front brakes may indicate a need for brake system inspection.
  5. Engine Issues: Jaguar XF cars have been reported to face problems with the timing chain and engine overheating. Noises during engine startup or idling could signal issues with the timing chain tensioner. Overheating engines can lead to damage to cylinder bores and excessive oil consumption. Timely detection and resolution of engine issues are essential to maintain the vehicle's performance.

These common problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any signs of malfunction in Jaguar XF cars to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the vehicle.

  • Date Complaint: 2024-02-04
  • VIN: SAJWA0FB1BL
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I just recently purchased the car from a dealer here in Salt Lake City. But suddenly began to smell fuel mostly in the backseat area inside the car. I decided to investigate and found there is a leak underneath the rear passenger side of the car which appears to be fuel looks like it may be mixed with the little oil hard to say it's a pretty steady drip especially if I'm parked uphill. This is definitely a safety hazard being that it is fuel and could easily cause a fire putting me my family and others at risk. I noticed there was a recall on these vehicles it is a Jaguar XF 2011 but it looks like it has been closed from what I can tell. I'm hoping that that's not the case and we can get this fixed with minimum or no charge thing it was a recall

Jaguar Xf 2013
  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-19
  • Date Complaint: 2023-05-19
  • VIN: SAJWA0ES6DP
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: To the best of my ability id like to explain why my car does not operate . i have taken my car to two jaguar dealership and have talked to Rocco' s European car repair shop as well and the all say that what is defective with my car is the central junction box. When I asked them all as to why this does not function they all said its a known problem with the car specifically due to "water ingress" leaking from the windshield wiper pump and on to the underside of the Central junction box and my wires are corroded and cause electrical failure as the say water and electricity are not a safe combination. with this malfunction my car no longer starts . Yes of course my car is available for inspection and it has been confirmed by both Hennessey Jaguar of Atlanta and Jaguar south Atlanta both have provided documentation as to the necessity to change the central junction box and both dealership's are not privately owned and not connected to one another yet they state the same reason as to why my car will not function. Yes my 2013 jaguar is a dangerous vehicle to drive as the car doors spontaneously opened and closed on their own the interior lights turned on and off and some other malfunctions engaged even when not engaged to do so i believe the breaking system also flashed traction control turns on even though i didn't ask it to be turned on. i am afraid that my car with water in the junction box could lead to an electrical fire as told to me by numerous mechanics Yes my car was inspected by both dealerships in Atlanta and both diagnosed the problem and being the "CJB." The symptoms initially started with my doors mysteriously locking and unlocking and then other electrical problems occurred after that. These symptoms first appeared in 2021 and there were messages that flashed on the dash message especially one that said see owners handbook i may not be sure of the wording but that's essentially the message . this is my best assessment of the problems.

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-04
  • Date Complaint: 2023-04-12
  • VIN: SAJBL4GX6NC
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
  • Summary: Car stalls and jumps out of gear at takeoff leaving us in the middle of the intersection having to turn the car off and restarting it as cars are trying to go around, also car accelerates too high rpm when taking off at low speed
Jaguar Xf 2013
  • Date Of Incident: 2016-02-01
  • Date Complaint: 2023-03-24
  • VIN: SAJWJ0EF5D8
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: The car employs a start/stop system to shut the engine when stopped. When it restarts the engine, the idle speed drops to about 400 RPM (half normal idle) and surges when it recovers. It has also stalled several times. I've asked the dealership to fix this, but when at the dealer, the system would not shut the engine so they have not verified the issue. The first safety issue happens if the driver is not expecting the surge resulting in sudden acceleration. The second issue happened when the car stalled at an intersection with other cars trying to get by. This has happened many times since I purchased the car in 2015. The stop/start function stopped working for a period of time when the primary battery was older and weak. Since replacing the batter, this is happening more frequently now. I did find this issue on KBB's website, but not on yours https://www.kbb.com/jaguar/xf/2013/recall/

I could have lost my life that day with that car doing this and someone else can lose their life if this happen to them if you all don't make Jaguar fixed this problem, if it already hasn't happen to someone. I reported this problem to Jaguar today and they sound like they weren't interested in what I was telling them. They said they would open and case and they will close it. Latest negative Jaguar Xf car reviews

  1. Ismael Jones 2025-04-11

    Vehicle year: 2015

In my experience, Jaguar Land Rover North America has not been helpful in resolving issues with their vehicles. Despite a faulty engine causing an internal oil leak and blowing up at only 48,000 miles, they were only willing to cover 30% of the $12,000 engine/turbo replacement cost. This lack of accountability for their workmanship has caused extreme financial distress for my husband and me. It is important to be cautious when dealing with Jaguar Land Rover North America and consider other options.

  2. Gaylord Breitenberg 2025-04-02

    Vehicle year: 2010

The XF model provided by the dealer has been a disappointment. The first one failed on the Long Island Expressway, which was a dangerous situation. The dealer replaced it with a new one, but unfortunately, it has been in the service department five times already. Additionally, the 19-inch tires are not suitable for city streets, and I had to purchase three new tires due to damage caused by potholes. Overall, the customer service has been unsatisfactory, and the superiors have been unhelpful. It is advisable to exercise caution when considering purchasing this model.

  3. Leo Rau 2025-03-27

    Vehicle year: 2009

The car looked great at first, but unfortunately, problems arose soon after. On my way home from the dealer, the engine light came on. I took it back, but they couldn't explain what was wrong (the computer should have given some kind of code). They suggested that the battery may have been low, so they recharged it and reset the computer. However, on my way home from the dealer, the differential started making noise. I took it back again, and the dealer initially thought it might be normal. However, after driving it with a mechanic, they acknowledged that it should not make noise. They had to obtain approval from Jaguar to repair it. At this point, I had had enough. After driving 170 miles, 150 of which were back and forth to the dealer, I returned the car. It cost me $6,000.00 to have the dealer buy back the car. If you're considering purchasing this car, please be careful. Jaguar USA didn't seem to care about my experience!

  4. Ernesto Waters 2025-03-21

    Vehicle year: 2011

I have owned high-end cars for a long time, and I must say that my experience with Jaguar has been disappointing. Despite taking good care of the car, it has required several repairs, including the alternator, water pump and neck, valve gasket, vacuum pump, and various electronic issues. I have spent $6500 on repairs in the last two years alone. Unfortunately, my family has had similar problems with their Jaguar, and we have decided not to purchase another one. It is a shame because the car is beautiful and we enjoy driving it. We have always paid a lot of money for regular servicing, but the need for expensive repairs due to poorly made parts at such low mileage is unacceptable. It took two years of persistent communication to receive a reasonable response from the manufacturer, which is disappointing. Overall, my experience with Jaguar has not been satisfactory, and I cannot recommend it to others.

  5. Rylan Schimmel 2025-03-04

    Vehicle year: 2011

Do not consider purchasing a Jaguar. Despite being a beautiful car, they are poorly built and have horrible reliability. My 2010 Xf Premium with 43k miles had been under warranty its whole life and passed a dealership inspection, yet still experienced multiple issues. Airbag sensors went faulty, the front suspension was full of cheap rubber bushings that caused the steering wheel to shake, the infotainment screen froze frequently, and the leather dashboard was beginning to wear. Even the reverse camera worked only when it wanted to. Although the dealership did update the car, they refused to cover the cost of repairs for the airbag sensors. I regret my decision to purchase a Jaguar and will never buy one again. Save yourself the trouble and consider a more reliable brand like Lexus.

Latest positive Jaguar Xf car reviews

  1. Darian Huels 2025-04-19

    Vehicle year: 2013

This car is both fun to drive and a beauty to look at. I wanted to wait until I had driven 15k miles before giving you an accurate review of the car. The engine has a nice growl to it and is quick off the mark.

  2. Tillman Graham 2025-04-18

    Vehicle year: 2015

Be prepared to have both a sporty ride as well as luxury with this car. It even growls like a jaguar (the animal) when you accelerate! You'll love it too, as it's very well made and handles exceptionally well on long commutes. I'm so glad I bought this car, it's made a difference in my drives regardless of the length.

  3. Noel Kunde 2025-04-15

    Vehicle year: 2015

I was initially hesitant to go with my first Jag due to reports of reliability issues. However, the design and feel won me over to give it a try. I got a great deal off the window sticker and Range Rover / Jaguar Houston Central was an amazing group to work with. Their attentiveness after purchase has been fantastic. The feel of the Jag is simply something to savor. The 'sport' mode has great pick up without the annoying lunge/lurch of my BMW 535. The 3.0 Portfolio upgrade is supercharged, taking off immediately from a stop - something I didn't like about the standard model. The interior is incredibly designed and the finish is beautiful. The BMW is so bland in comparison. Seat comfort is better in the Jag and it just feels like it fits the driver like a glove. The technology is good and far better than in the 2013 BMW I traded in. All in all, I couldn't be more satisfied, 3 months and 5000 miles in. Cheers!

  4. Hazel Dooley 2025-04-12

I recently traded my 2009 Jaguar for a 2012 model and I must say, I am absolutely in love with it! I opted for the Portfolio edition and the interior is simply stunning. It is miles ahead of anything else in this price range and truly stands out. The new seats are incredibly comfortable and even have cooling features, which is a game changer during hot summer drives. I considered other luxury car brands such as BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, but found them to be quite common and unoriginal. Driving a Jaguar is a unique and exciting experience. I also appreciate the level of customization options available, such as interior colors and veneer choices. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend Jaguar to anyone looking for a high-end driving experience.

I looked at the E550, 550i, and M56 before deciding on the XF. The power is truly awesome, even faster than the factory reported 4.9 to 60. The design is great and sets it apart from BMW/Merc, giving a sense of luxury while still being a total sleeper in performance. My only concern when buying the Jaguar was reliability, but after a month of use, I'm happy to report no problems so far - maybe the demons are history! The ride is super smooth and it handles well too. I really appreciate the hockey puck transmission shifter, which takes up a lot less room - why do you need a big stick on an automatic? The navigation and touchscreen are a bit slow and dated, but I don't use them much so it's not bothersome. I have no buyers remorse and would highly recommend the XF.
