Common Jaguar Xf problems

Based on complaints from owners of Jaguar XF cars, common problems with these vehicles include:

  1. Transmission Problems: Jaguar XF cars are known to experience early transmission failure, which can lead to significant issues with the vehicle's performance. Detecting transmission problems early through comprehensive diagnostics is crucial to prevent further damage and ensure proper functioning.
  2. Ignition Coil Issues: The ignition coils in Jaguar XF cars are essential for creating sparks to ignite fuel. Failure of these coils can result in inadequate engine performance, sometimes without triggering the check engine light. Intermittent issues with ignition coils can impact the overall running of the engine.
  3. Coolant & Engine Difficulties: Coolant loss is a common problem in some Jaguar XF models, often due to leaks in the coolant reservoir. If left unaddressed, coolant leaks can lead to engine overheating, causing extensive damage. Monitoring coolant levels and addressing leaks promptly is crucial to prevent engine issues.
  4. Brake Failure: The brake pressure accumulator, a component of the antilock brake system in Jaguar XF cars, is prone to failure. When this part malfunctions, it can cause the brake pedal to stiffen, making it challenging to slow down or stop the vehicle. Unusual noises from the front brakes may indicate a need for brake system inspection.
  5. Engine Issues: Jaguar XF cars have been reported to face problems with the timing chain and engine overheating. Noises during engine startup or idling could signal issues with the timing chain tensioner. Overheating engines can lead to damage to cylinder bores and excessive oil consumption. Timely detection and resolution of engine issues are essential to maintain the vehicle's performance.

These common problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any signs of malfunction in Jaguar XF cars to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the vehicle.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-02
  • Date Complaint: 2024-02-04
  • VIN: SAJWA0FB1BL
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I just recently purchased the car from a dealer here in Salt Lake City. But suddenly began to smell fuel mostly in the backseat area inside the car. I decided to investigate and found there is a leak underneath the rear passenger side of the car which appears to be fuel looks like it may be mixed with the little oil hard to say it's a pretty steady drip especially if I'm parked uphill. This is definitely a safety hazard being that it is fuel and could easily cause a fire putting me my family and others at risk. I noticed there was a recall on these vehicles it is a Jaguar XF 2011 but it looks like it has been closed from what I can tell. I'm hoping that that's not the case and we can get this fixed with minimum or no charge thing it was a recall

Jaguar Xf 2013
  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-19
  • Date Complaint: 2023-05-19
  • VIN: SAJWA0ES6DP
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: To the best of my ability id like to explain why my car does not operate . i have taken my car to two jaguar dealership and have talked to Rocco' s European car repair shop as well and the all say that what is defective with my car is the central junction box. When I asked them all as to why this does not function they all said its a known problem with the car specifically due to "water ingress" leaking from the windshield wiper pump and on to the underside of the Central junction box and my wires are corroded and cause electrical failure as the say water and electricity are not a safe combination. with this malfunction my car no longer starts . Yes of course my car is available for inspection and it has been confirmed by both Hennessey Jaguar of Atlanta and Jaguar south Atlanta both have provided documentation as to the necessity to change the central junction box and both dealership's are not privately owned and not connected to one another yet they state the same reason as to why my car will not function. Yes my 2013 jaguar is a dangerous vehicle to drive as the car doors spontaneously opened and closed on their own the interior lights turned on and off and some other malfunctions engaged even when not engaged to do so i believe the breaking system also flashed traction control turns on even though i didn't ask it to be turned on. i am afraid that my car with water in the junction box could lead to an electrical fire as told to me by numerous mechanics Yes my car was inspected by both dealerships in Atlanta and both diagnosed the problem and being the "CJB." The symptoms initially started with my doors mysteriously locking and unlocking and then other electrical problems occurred after that. These symptoms first appeared in 2021 and there were messages that flashed on the dash message especially one that said see owners handbook i may not be sure of the wording but that's essentially the message . this is my best assessment of the problems.

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-04
  • Date Complaint: 2023-04-12
  • VIN: SAJBL4GX6NC
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
  • Summary: Car stalls and jumps out of gear at takeoff leaving us in the middle of the intersection having to turn the car off and restarting it as cars are trying to go around, also car accelerates too high rpm when taking off at low speed
Jaguar Xf 2013
  • Date Of Incident: 2016-02-01
  • Date Complaint: 2023-03-24
  • VIN: SAJWJ0EF5D8
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: The car employs a start/stop system to shut the engine when stopped. When it restarts the engine, the idle speed drops to about 400 RPM (half normal idle) and surges when it recovers. It has also stalled several times. I've asked the dealership to fix this, but when at the dealer, the system would not shut the engine so they have not verified the issue. The first safety issue happens if the driver is not expecting the surge resulting in sudden acceleration. The second issue happened when the car stalled at an intersection with other cars trying to get by. This has happened many times since I purchased the car in 2015. The stop/start function stopped working for a period of time when the primary battery was older and weak. Since replacing the batter, this is happening more frequently now. I did find this issue on KBB's website, but not on yours https://www.kbb.com/jaguar/xf/2013/recall/

I could have lost my life that day with that car doing this and someone else can lose their life if this happen to them if you all don't make Jaguar fixed this problem, if it already hasn't happen to someone. I reported this problem to Jaguar today and they sound like they weren't interested in what I was telling them. They said they would open and case and they will close it. Do that make sense to you to open a case and close it?

Latest negative Jaguar Xf car reviews

  1. Gardner Herman 2025-08-02

    Vehicle year: 2009

This is my second entree with Jaguar. I had purchased the XJ8L for my wife (her dream car), but found that it was just too big for her. However, the quality of the car was outstanding, so I decided on the 2009 XF. Let me tell you, the car is a real stunner! It handles like a premium sports car should and the fit and finish of the car is second to none. The interior is drop dead gorgeous. Unfortunately, we have experienced some issues with the car's reliability. The XF has a programming issue that allows the car's systems to remain active, which drains the battery. As a result, my wife has been stranded over half a dozen times in the 18 months we've had the car.

  2. Zackary Prosacco 2025-08-01

    Vehicle year: 2013

Overall, I really like my 2013 XF AWD. It drives well and handles the snow with ease. However, I have had some issues with the electronics. The overhead lamps sometimes turn on by themselves and when I put the car in park and remove my seat-belt, it will sometimes turn itself off completely. Unfortunately, the dealership has been unable to resolve the issues.

  3. Nasir Williamson 2025-07-22

    Vehicle year: 2010

Do not consider purchasing a Jaguar. Despite being a beautiful car, they are poorly built and have horrible reliability. My 2010 Xf Premium with 43k miles had been under warranty its whole life and passed a dealership inspection, yet still experienced multiple issues. Airbag sensors went faulty, the front suspension was full of cheap rubber bushings that caused the steering wheel to shake, the infotainment screen froze frequently, and the leather dashboard was beginning to wear. Even the reverse camera worked only when it wanted to. Although the dealership did update the car, they refused to cover the cost of repairs for the airbag sensors. I regret my decision to purchase a Jaguar and will never buy one again. Save yourself the trouble and consider a more reliable brand like Lexus.

  4. Baron Cremin 2025-07-18

    Vehicle year: 2018

I purchased my car in 2018 and it ran great. The dealer serviced it regularly and everything was good. Unfortunately, the warranty expired in May 2021 and in July of the same year, at 38,700 miles, the alternator died. Then, in April 2022, at 43,573 miles, the alternator died again due to oil leaks. However, the issue was resolved on May 5, 2022, at 44,700 miles, when both intake manifold gaskets, both valve cover gaskets, and the intake plenum gasket were replaced. While leaving the shop, the radiator hose came loose and was chewed by a pulley, but a temporary repair was made while the hose was ordered. Finally, in December 2022, the hose was replaced and the shop found a timing cover leak.

  5. Francis Gutmann 2025-07-04

    Vehicle year: 2010

I test drove a 2010 XF about a year ago and it felt solid and drove well. I was impressed and decided to take out a 4 year lease. Unfortunately, I've had some issues with the car since then. From the check engine light to some squeaks and rattles, it hasn't been the smoothest ride. In the first 2 months, it spent 40 days in the shop. However, I'm hopeful that things will improve. Although it hasn't been perfect, I still enjoy driving it when I can. I'm looking forward to resolving the remaining issues and getting back on the road.

Latest positive Jaguar Xf car reviews

  1. Markus Hamill 2025-08-02

    Vehicle year: 2018

If you're a fan of fast, wild cats, then this car is perfect for you! I must admit, I've had a bit of trouble with my Jaguar and have received a couple of speeding tickets, but I can't help but love how it runs. Even though I was pulled over for going 92 MPH, I was still impressed with how smoothly the car handled. I do wish it was a bit quieter and easier to control, but overall, I'm thrilled with my purchase. It's a unique car in my area and I get a lot of attention for its stylish design. I've even added tinted windows to make it even more eye-catching. The trunk is incredibly spacious and the back seats fold down easily, making it perfect for hauling things around. I've had no issues with the car and I'm glad I don't have to make the long trip to the dealership for repairs. Plus, if it's good enough for Queen Elizabeth, it's definitely the cat's meow for us!

  2. Alphonso Kautzer 2025-07-27

    Vehicle year: 2012

The availability of after-market parts can be a challenge, but as a proud owner of two BMWs, I can attest that finding parts for these cars is a breeze. This car is truly exceptional, with outstanding handling and ample power for any real-world driving scenario. The quality of this car is a significant improvement over older models. While the brakes may wear out quickly, this is not a major issue if you are able to service your own vehicle. In my experience of driving 37,000 miles, I have only encountered three problems: a plastic cooling tube that almost caused engine damage (which I was able to fix myself at a reasonable cost), a battery, and an alternator. These are basic issues that any vehicle owner may encounter.

  3. Daryl Hand 2025-07-26

    Vehicle year: 2018

I've had this car for two years now and I must say, I'm extremely satisfied with it. The car has 340hp and still manages to give me 33mpg on road trips, which is great. The ride quality is very smooth and the seats are still very supportive even after two years. As someone who is 6'2/240lbs, I find the car very comfortable. The tires have lasted 28,000 miles so far, which is fabulous. I haven't had any mechanical problems with the car and the sales/service team was absolutely awesome at handling the odd cosmetic issues present at delivery. Although the service department at the local dealer is pretty disorganized, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the car. Update: Seven months later and just passed 40k miles, the ride quality is still excellent and I haven't had any mechanical problems. However, the trunk liner (they call it a gasket) is loose and the dealer I took it to failed at fixing it. Turns out there's a TSB out on this very thing, so I'll take it to a different dealer at the next service. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the car and when the lease is up, I'll still consider sticking with Jaguar. However, the poor service departments so far have been a factor in my decision. Jaguar USA, if you're listening, you need to get a handle on these service departments. Update: The lease is over and I absolutely enjoyed the car. There were no mechanical problems and the wear/tear was well within expectations. The overall MPG was 27 and the highest ever was 34. Unfortunately, JLR wasn't offering any deals to keep me as a customer and the prices on new XFs were just too high when compared to competitors. I tried to work a deal with a nearby dealer on a nicer XE, but the sales crew was mostly unresponsive to emails and texts. In summary, the car was fantastic and based on the car alone, I would probably have stayed with Jaguar had I gotten some love.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it brand new back in July and have already put 9,000 miles on it. Let me tell you, it's a blast to drive! The car is so fast and handles like a dream. Plus, with all-wheel drive, it's perfect for my driving needs. I split my time between Los Angeles and my home in the local mountains, and the all-wheel drive works flawlessly in any weather condition. (My last car was a Subaru WRX, but the Jag is even faster and just as good in the snow!) I've always been a manual transmission kind of person, but the 8-speed auto has completely won me over. The car is also really spacious, and the interior is so elegant. I love the simple and straightforward design of the dash and console - it's such a refreshing change from the cluttered look of German or Japanese luxury sedans. And the leather and wood trim just add to the overall luxurious feel of the car. Thanks for letting me share!
