The Jaguar XE (X760) is a car manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover and marketed under their Jaguar marque since April 2015. A large family car, it has a four-door saloon car body style and is aimed at the compact-executive market segment. It is front engined and sold with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The successor to the X-Type, it was designed by Ian Callum and launched at the October 2014 Paris Motor Show.

The XE is noted for its aluminium suspension componentry as well as its bonded and riveted aluminium unitary structure — the first in its segment.

Launch

The XE was announced, but not displayed, at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and debuted globally on 8 September 2014 in London. Sales were expected to begin globally in 2015, followed by the United States in 2016. Production formally commenced on 13 April 2015 at Jaguar Land Rover's Solihull plant.

Common 2017 Jaguar Xe problems

Based on the information gathered from various sources, common problems with the 2017 Jaguar XE reported by owners include:

  • Gear Selector Malfunction:
    • The gear selector in the 2017 Jaguar XE is a unique round knob that rises when the car is turned on. Over time and with increased use, this mechanism can start to malfunction, leading to issues where the gear knob may stop working entirely. This malfunction can leave the driver stranded and may require the vehicle to be towed to a garage for repairs. While fixing this issue is not expensive, additional costs for recovery may apply depending on the location of the breakdown .
  • Turbocharger Issues:
    • Turbocharger problems can arise in the Jaguar XE, particularly if the car has not been well-maintained or serviced with quality oils. Many owners neglect proper engine services and opt for cheaper oil options, which can significantly reduce the lifespan of the turbos. It is recommended to thoroughly inspect the turbos in a Jaguar XE with around 100,000 miles to avoid facing expensive repair bills shortly after purchase.

These issues highlight some of the key problems that owners of the 2017 Jaguar XE have encountered. Proper maintenance, timely repairs, and using high-quality oils can help mitigate these common problems and ensure a smoother ownership experience with this luxury vehicle.

2017 Jaguar Xe engine

What are the problems with Jaguar XE?

The 2.0L diesel Ingenium engine found in the XE is also fitted to many other vehicles across the Jaguar Land Rover range and timing chain issues are unfortunately very common on this engine. The timing chains stretch over time and if not replaced can cause irreparable engine damage.

How many miles will a 2017 Jaguar XE last?

Most Jaguar vehicles will last for at least 150,000 miles, but there's a lot that a driver can do to push this number much higher. With regular oil replacement, belt changes, spark plug replacement, and other basic maintenance services, you can ensure that your Jaguar lasts for 200,000 miles or more.

Which year Jaguar XE is most reliable?

The 2019 model is a compelling option for those who prioritize driving dynamics and solid reliability on the side. It's also a relatively recent model, so you're not skimping on tech and safety features. The 2019 Jaguar XE offers a range of engines, from the fuel-efficient diesel to the exhilarating supercharged V6.

Are Jaguar XE expensive to maintain?

The XE undercuts its rivals considerably, costing less than 40ppm over a four-year cycle, making it as cheap to run as a Tesla Model 3. The XE is no less of a car that its German rivals, either.

Negative 2017 Jaguar Xe car reviews

  1. Eduardo Weimann 2025-08-04

Does anyone else experience their Jag XE shaking when the air is on at a stop sign? I absolutely love driving the car, but it's frustrating to deal with this issue. I've already had two motor mounts replaced by 14K, but the shaking persists. According to the dealer, it's just a design characteristic of the car, but I believe it's a design flaw. This isn't the quality I was expecting.

  2. Ransom Jenkins 2025-06-29

I purchased the XE as my first Jaguar, after owning five BMWs and currently a Mercedes C300. However, I found the XE to be a lackluster car and after a few months of ownership, I felt the need to buy add-ons to dress up the interior. This was a first for me, as I had never felt the need to buy aftermarket parts for any of my previous cars. Unfortunately, after a year of ownership, I was already looking at other cars and eagerly awaited the end of my lease. The car had several drawbacks, including the lack of a light in the glove box, no vanity mirrors, poor navigation, and a blind spot between the door pillar. Additionally, the seats were not comfortable enough for long trips and the car was not easy to get out of. Ultimately, I kept the car for exactly two years and only put 7400 miles on it. In my opinion, the XE was not a great car.

  3. Wallace Bernier 2025-05-10

The car I owned was not the best. I experienced some issues with the build quality and the entertainment system, which I paid an additional $2000 for. Unfortunately, the customer service I received was not up to my expectations. There are other options available that offer better quality and customer service. I would advise against making the same mistake I did and purchasing a Jaguar.

  4. Raymond Gaylord 2025-05-10

I absolutely love my Jag! The ride is the perfect combination of sport and luxury. When I hit the gas, the turbo 4 banger takes off and the design is both classy and sporty. While I can't speak to the back seat as we have no children, the cockpit is incredibly comfortable and the interior is laid out for easy access for the driver. Although I have the basic model, I did expect some compromises. However, I do think that they could have included some basic features such as sat radio, a garage opener, and a mute button. Additionally, the radio could be of better quality. Despite these minor issues, I still think that this is a super car and I absolutely love it. After almost a year with the car, I still feel the same way. The nav screen graphics could be improved, but overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

  5. Shawn Hamill 2025-02-21

The car looked great at first, but after owning it for over a year, I've had some issues. The paintwork seems to scratch easily compared to other cars I've owned, even though I take really good care of my cars. When washing the roof of the car, the roof panel behind the sunroof gives way and dents in. I'm not sure if this is a safety concern, but it does make me worry. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any safety ratings on this car. The backseat isn't designed for kids, and the seat belts lock up continuously for no reason, which can be a big issue when your child is a highback booster and can't get their belt buckled. The seatbelt won't unlock unless it's fully retracted, which can't happen unless you remove the belt from the belt guide in the booster. Also, the boosters overhang the seatbelt receptacle. Long story short, I wouldn't recommend this car if you have kids. The leather or pleather on the center console armrest has a big air bubble where the glue is no longer holding the material to the under-surface. Additionally, a speaker has blown in the front passenger side. Overall, it seems like this car is cheaply made for its price point.

Positive 2017 Jaguar Xe car reviews

  1. Koby Turner 2025-09-12

I bought the Jaguar XE pretty quickly after test driving several other similar models. I found the best deal on a diesel, which was a new experience for me, but I'm thrilled with my decision. The car is incredibly fun to drive and I'm getting about 40 miles to the gallon, which is fantastic. It's definitely a head turner and for good reason - it's loaded with the newest safety features and is a very safe car overall. While I did have some issues with the entertainment system, the dealership was quick and professional in resolving them, and everything was covered under warranty. Overall, I absolutely love this car and I'm so glad I went with a Jaguar. It's definitely the best car I've ever owned!

  2. Avery Wolff 2025-09-03

I completely agree that some Jaguar sedan models may have a less luxurious interior compared to their competitors. However, the 35T Prestige model is an exception. It boasts a very luxurious leather interior that can easily compete with the best in the market. The AWD and supercharged 6 cylinder engine may be expensive options, but they truly transform the car into the luxury vehicle you've always dreamed of. It's incredibly fast, fuel-efficient, and comes with the best warranty of any luxury car. Although the back seat may be a little tight, it's still comfortable for two people or two plus kids. Perhaps, making the front dashboard on the passenger side about 2 inches shallower could solve this issue. Having owned a Mercedes and a Volvo, I can confidently say that this model is better than either of them. I would advise against wasting your money on any of those overpriced 4 cyl models that every manufacturer is pushing. When you step on the gas in a Jag, you know you made the right choice. We absolutely love our 35T, which is now four years old, and I still stand by my original comments. It's a fantastic car with an excellent warranty and top-notch service.

  3. Kaden Feil 2025-08-25

I test drove the A4, 3 series, and C class, but unfortunately, I was left unimpressed with what they had to offer. However, after doing some research on the new xe, I decided to give it a try. I went in for a test drive and was blown away by the styling, handling, and most of all, the power it offered. The supercharged V6 has tons of power, and when pressed, the engine seems like it can pull for days. The handling outclassed the 3 series. Although I must admit that the interior is not up to snuff compared to the compact luxury sedan class, it still leaves a bit to be desired. But then I turn on the car, put it into drive, hit the gas, and I am quickly reminded why I purchased this car. It does not disappoint. Plus, have I mentioned how much I love the reaction I get from others when I say I own a Jaguar? I highly recommend taking this car for a test drive. I am sure you will love it too!

  4. Johann Kreiger 2025-08-24

After owning BMWs and Mercedes for many years, I decided to switch things up and go for a Jaguar XE. I've been thoroughly enjoying it since January 2017 after a couple of test drives convinced me. I'm leasing the R-Sport in Caesium Blue with black/blue interior, black wheels and detailing. The car is absolutely gorgeous! I constantly receive compliments and thumbs-up from other drivers. I love the exclusivity of the brand as I see all the BMWs and MBs on the road around me. Although I'm 66 and in excellent shape, the entrance/egress can still be a bit uncomfortable, but once I'm in the car, I don't want to leave. The seating positions are extremely comfortable, the suspension is fabulous, and the car grips the road and doesn't let go. The acceleration is exceptionally responsive, and the gas mileage is fair for a V6 that drives like this, up to around 22.5mpg. However, the interior lacks design and aesthetic importance, as well as quality materials. For example, the shift levels mounted on the steering wheel are thin short black plastic surfaces, as though an afterthought. The very narrow opening of the sliding sunroof was a huge disappointment for me. The biggest problem with this car is side visibility. It's great that the car has signals in the side-view mirrors when a car is approaching, but without it, you're dealing with a death wish. The design of the thick seats and headrests and the wide side pillars make it virtually impossible to peer over your shoulder on either side to see what's around you. Additionally, there is very little space to store items, the rotary drive knob is too prominent and eats up too much plastic space, and there have been a few electrical glitches that haven't caused any problems (yet). Overall, you wouldn't find a comparably-equipped or performing BMW, Audi or MB for this price. I have no regrets, and I look forward to my next Jaguar when my lease expires. Hopefully, they'll figure out some of these redesigns.

  5. Bailey Gleichner 2025-07-18

This is my first Jaguar after eight leases of BMW's. I was ready to re-order another 435i when I test drove the Jaguar and watched the u-tube comparison of the two. I've had the car for 11 months now and could not be more pleased. It drives fantastic--the best handling car I have ever had--accelerates like a rocket. Overall, it's a great car that I would highly recommend.
